0:50 Blind Seer kind of acts as a counterspell in a deck that has protection against any color. Or helps break trough protection. Or screw up you opponent's triggers if they are color related.

I can see imprinting a spell like Hydroblast AKA Blue Elemental blast on Isochron Scepter & then using the Scepter to be able to blow up any target or counter any spell your opponent throws at you & destroy all their permanents, INCLUDING LANDS, with Blind Seer.

I've seen Mishra, Artificer Prodigy Commander. They use symmetrical effects like Nether Void and Possibility Storm that Mishra can "ignore" by stacking his ability to resolve last. Mishra also ignores the drawback from Blood Funnel, too.

I LOVE Taniwha so much! It's hilarious with cards like Sunder and Upheaval bouncing lands, also Land Equilibrium and Mana Vortex destroying lands while yours are phased out. Hitting the opponent with Worldslayer attached to a creature and blowing up everything but your phased out lands is quite satisfying. Just make sure you have the right play group who doesn't mind it's a commander that destroys and bounces lots of lands, at least the way I built it.

    • @someguy8443
      @someguy8443 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, I've learned that commanders with a very general, non-specific use case should never be underestimated. In fact, they're the ones that tend to inspire my decks nowadays and blind seer has just done that. I suddenly feel compelled to build a deck with him.
But yeah, in a case like blind seer there's too much potential to judge its worth without researching it yourself.

Arent there removal spells that hit spells of other colors specifically? You could use the seer to make those types of removal spells more flexible, kinda like how liquimetal torque makes artifact removal more flexible, wanna get rid of an enchantment but you only have something that gets rid of artifacts use the torque to turn it into an artifact and then the usless removal spell in your hamd becomes quite useful.

There was mana ramp in blue in the form of Retraced Image. You can make land cards, so as long as you, say, play and Island turn one, cast Retraced Image, name Island, and have another Island in your hand, you put the Island from your hand into play.

  • @Dom_Maretti

You can Dash from the Command Zone, and when it returns to your hand at end of turn, it does actually go into your hand rather than the Command Zone (so the tax won't be applied since you can cast it again from your hand and the tax only applies when cast from the Command Zone). You can *choose* to have it go to the Command Zone rather than your hand, but that would be stupid for Dash.

With blind seer if you played with cards that screw over specific card types couldn't you use it to just make it so the card your opponent played was the color it applied to? So like if you had Boil on the field but your opponent casts a green card couldn't you respond with this to make it a red spell that they now need to pay two more for?

Blind Seer is actually pretty good, not incredible but changing color identity can be abused with card that have protection from color or if you have ways color of spell is affected in some way. You can abuse it by denying a spell cast because it has to be on the stack AT LEAST for it to be touched by blind seer, but it can be a good effect.
Mannichi can be abused in some other ways. Say you have "until end of turn opponents creatures get -4/-4" and all the creatures powers are lower than 4 they would die. Or say you give them all lower toughness, but not attack you can do the same. Since the the lower of stats stays on that side (so if creatures have -0/-3 and a swap happens they still have -0/-3 as this card doesn't change that rule of the card). Also, you can do the effect at instant speed to save cards if needed. For instance after damage is applied and you have creatures damaged, you swap them if someone does some sort of kill effect. It actually is a decent card (though not incredible).
My take is alot of these are probably niche uses, but not terrible. Just because they are legendary doesn't mean they HAVE to be good. There are plenty of common and uncommon cards that are stupid strong just because the mechanics can be abused easily. A bad card is not because of their type, it is how it functions. I often like to find ways to make what seems like a bad card good because it is fun to think outside the box and not use the same cards (or even decks) others use. This is why I design all my own decks. I also only play commander (I used to play standard magic back BEFORE there was game modes and everything needed to have restriction in casual play). I will only design my own decks based on cards I see or mechanics i want to abuse. I also will not spend over $20 for any single card. I will usually build cheap, so this idea of always optimizing a deck is beyond me.

Like, say, if you were facing a black opponent and had a doom blade in hand, changing the opponents creature to a different color would let you target it. There's other ways it COULD be used. I'm just having trouble thinking of a way it could be used that isn't either done simpler or wouldn't be needlessly convoluted. It's not USELESS though, just... solving a problem you shouldn't even have in the first place.

The thing that annoys me the most about Iname as One is that it's meant to be a combination of the two other Iname cards, but BOTH of those cards are leagues better than the big Iname. The mono black version gets you any number of spirits from your library to your Graveyard on ETB, and the mono green one gets you any number from your Graveyard to your hand when it dies. If big Iname just had both of those abilities, it would be great, but instead they traded any number of spirits for one spirit on the battlefield, gave it a casting restriction making it useless as a commander, and still had it cost twice as much. Honestly, just rule 0 the other Iname cards to be partners.

Blue has quite a few ways to make something unblockable but it also has a few ways to deal non-combat damage and that isn't counting equipment. Atemis isn't terrible and could really sneak out some wins.
I actually love Norin the Wary. I pair it with tons of ETBs like Impact Tremors and Warstorm Surge to just shred my opponents. My friend ended up making a Lulu Loyal Hollyphant with a red background and throw in Norin just to have something that could trigger Lulu each of her turns because Norin is really tough to get rid of once he is out.

It should have been a homeland's/ Chronicles ban on this list to keep it more interesting.

Neither Aboshan, nor Jeska are particularly bad. Neither should be your commander, but they are both decent in the 99.

most of these are simply over costed for limited abilities. No real reason to put these into a deck..

If only there was a world where Mishra Artificer Prodigy + Relentless Rats + Mycosynth Lattice + Thrumming Stone actually worked.

You can use mishra artifcer prodigy with possibility storm, if you put the mishra trigger on the stack first and then the possibility storm trigger first you can cast the next artifact spell in your deck, shuffle the original one along with the other misses get put on the bottom of your library in a random order and then you get to search your library to cast the original spell that you originally cast.

Shimatsu seems really bad, until you throw out an Insurrection beforehand and sac all their creatures after combat. Or any other way to gain control of creatures en masse.
