11:10, Don't think of Vexing Devil as a one-mana 4/3 monster, think of him as a one-mana burn instant that does four damage to an opponent and occasionally gives you a free creature!
I just take the 4 damage every time I see this card.
The problem is that it gives your opponent the choice. If they can't deal with a 4/3, they take the damage. If they can't deal with the damage, they take the 4/3. If they can't deal with either, they were probably gonna lose anyway and you might as well be playing a better card.

I mean for the Wood Elemental, you said how bad it is depend on how greedy you are, but it's just bad no matter the decision because it's already 4 mana and if you don't sac anything it just yeet itself. And with sac just become worst, there is no winning scenario

Academy Researcher was used with Zephid's Embrace back in my day. Now Eldrazi Conscription would be a good add.
11:43 Tempting Wurm's ETB is bad by itself, but if you have a board-wipe in hand, it can be really punishing for the opponents that got greedy.
I can't remember which YT channel, but someone made an amazing and viable Tempting Worm EDH deck that turned the downside into all upside. Neat stuff.
It's funny that Crypt Champion is on this list, when it was part of a very successful infinite combo deck back in the day: "Project X."
I have Vexing Devil in my Gruul modern deck. It works in a wide aggro build, especially if you have Pelt Collector or Goblin Bushwacker in the deck.
47:28 I'm telling you, Crafty Cutpurse has what's seems like a really good ability. But it seems like everytime your opponent makes tokens, you either don't have the mana to cast the Cutpurse or its just not worth trying to get their 1 token. It's only until end of turn, so it never works out the way you want. Once it's on the field, they're gonna stop making tokens until it's their next turn
Lord of tresselhorn could be good in combo with orchish bowmaster. Sac some zombie/orc tokens. Then when your opponent draws, you do damage and get extra orcs. You have multiple orcish bowmasters and you could see them doing massive damage.
In it's era you could run it with underworld dreams, wheel, and twister
Sky Swallower is nuts! Make a deck in Commander with quality enchantments, a TON of ramp and tutor effects designed to get this thing out ASAP then pick you favorite person at the table and hand them the game. Here's 3 mana rocks 3 lands and a Propaganda!! Imma have a beer while you clean up.
Float your mana before casting it and fractured identity it afterwards😎

5:25 - Phage the Untouchable isn't only dangerous if you cheat her into play. She's lethal if your opponent has a blink effect. Hell, any number of "exile until this card leaves play" cards makes it a suicide card.

You can get Eater of Days out first or second turn, third or fourth turn at worst. Will your opponent have played something better by turn three to six? Sure, you skip your turn, but you can still cast stuff during your opponent(s) turns. Destroy their land, counter spell, etc. Then in two turns you have a 9/8 flying/trample bomb. 3 to 5 turns to kill your opponent depending upon the format. 2 to 4 turns or less if you buff it. It is flying/trample, so, either the opponent kills it or kills you in a few turns or you win. Deep Slumber Titan allows for infinite combos when combined with certain cards. It's a broken card in both senses of the word, broken like literally broken as a creature, doesn't work and broken as in op for combos.
I literally had a Modern deck that I played to reasonable success on MTGO based on Academy Researchers and Eldrazi Conscription. I used Transmute on Drift of Phantasms to tutor both Academy Researchers and Heliod's Pilgrim.
Greenbelt Rampager ETB is mandatory. It enters and you have to pay 2.
I like how 2 of the first few cards were the centerpieces of my Ninja Mask deck. Phyrexian Dreadnought and Phage. Almost won a mox in a tourny with it!
I'm late to the party, but Wumpus is the name of the monster from a 1973 videogame Hunt the Wumpus, which is notable for being one of the first examples of a survival horror game.
So, the Academy Researcher card could be good in a ninjutsu deck with Satoru, the one that gives creatures in your hand Ninjutsu: 2UB. Have an unblockable creature attack with Satoru out, ninjutsu the Academy Researchers and attach colosification to it for 22 damage as early as turn 4-5.
You have taunting elf on the field. When you can attack with colossification aura and taunting elf the researchers will not be blocked because everything has to attack taunting elf.
You should be playing Thassa's Oracle in your modern deck. Its scry ability will have you drawing the cards you need in the moments you need them. And occasionally against a mill deck, you might just win. Not to mention that it's good sack fodder for the Hexcatcher.
0:42 0/1 thrull tokens from breeding pit or serf tokens from sengir autocrat. Good Buddy got run with nether spirit and hecatomb.

Lord Tresserhorn's ETB isn't an additional cost. So, if you don't have any creatures on the board, you can get away without sacrificing any creatures.
I have seen the eater of days in decks that like to donate permanants, you can give it to your opponent to make them skip their turns and just be unfair
40:14 DustElemental's ETB seems nice if you either 1) bounce back cards with GOOD ETBs 2) bounce back cheap cards, esp if they have haste.

Say, if you sideboarded it in against an aggressive low curve deck that’s likely to be empty-handed by turn 4 anyway.
Academy Researchers usually enters the battlefield with a Pattern of Rebirth attached to it.

Dust Elemental is a lot better than most people give it credit for. Ironically, you play it in a deck based on *good* ETB triggers. I've played it in a 5 color control as the finisher. It's also got flash, so if you've got the mana open, you can flash it in to save 2 of your creatures (and itself) from a board wipe.
No way I used an Exemplar of Strength in a -1/-1 counters deck and it destroyed everyone. You just put them on an insignificant creature and you have a 4/4 for 2 mana. If put on him, he grows every attack. Alternately, the deck had many effects when you put a -1/-1 counter on something, something happens which made this a 2 mana 4/4 that also removed opponent creatures when played. That card slaps in the right deck.

I have 2 treacherous pit dwellers In my deck and I refer to them as "DA BOIZ" you can mitigate it with a ring of xathrid but I will admit there are better options, I just don't have them lol. I don't have much to work with so its like a weird hybrid between making them discard, stealing health, and then putting out unblockables and DA BOIZ. so if you make them discard a whole bunch then it's less likely for them to have something and then you can dropthem safely. but to be honest to be able to do that you could've dropped something better since you'd have more than enough mana to do so by then.

leveler can combo with Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator [Wilds of Eldraine] since remove from the game is now exile.
For vexing devil, that's at least 4 damage for 1 mana. I feel like that's good value no matter which one they pick.
Orb of Dreams is a Stax card. Most likely ( Unless they're ignorant of it's existence) the caster would have Amulet of Vigor. I cansee why in a vacuum it would seem terrible, but it's actually a fantastic stax piece. I have ½ a playset in my stax deck.

Merrow Harbinger, and all the other tribal Harbinger cards were more for activating kinship abilities than for drawing cards
How about deadbridge chant. 6 mana mill 10 and hope it survives to be able to get 1 random card back each turn and if it’s a creature it goes to the battlefield

Why would you NOT run Vexing Devil? If you are running Gruul and have out a rhythm of the wild, either way, they will take 4 damage. It just seems great, especially if you start making copies.
Vexing Devil is obviously a good card. Think of it as a sorcery with a cost of R, and it does four damage to a player, but there's a chance it could be an OP creature instead.
I have a board wipe deck. I play tempting worms and hunted wumpus to bait out big, powerful stuff before wiping

Wasn't Vexing Devil good in burn decks? 4 damage for 1 mana is a good rate, didn't play MTG at this point so not 100%
It was always a pretty big trap card in Burn. The problem is you can't guarantee it will deal 4 damage because you give the opponent the option to use a removal spell on Vexing Devil. If they have no removal then they probably will take the 4 damage, which still benefits the opponent because then the Vexing Devil was likely worth more than 4 damage if the opponent doesn't have removal.
Sky Swallower could work with Demonic Pact.
When Laboratory Maniac was printed, Leveler went from being about $0.50 to about $8.00. Just absurd. When people realized that it was too slow, the price dropped again.
Deep Slumber Titan doesn't technically have an ETB.
At least Accursed Centaur has zombie support and fills graveyard.
In a rakdos deck that gets sac triggers, Vexing Devil might be somewhat good

I used Overlaid terrain in my Windgrace deck. The best way to get value is playing Overlaid Terrain and then activating him with his -3 ability. Now you've got 2 lands back that tap for double. In the right decks, Overlaid Terrain is incredibly powerful
Vexing devil is NOT a bad card whatsoever. 1 mana for 4 damage to the opponent? If not you get a 4/3 for 1 mana. That card has no drawbacks. Even in late game if they can deal with the 4/3 you still get a creature that can attack or block. I do understand if they have removal they could just let you play it and then they just exile it or destroy it but it's not a bad card by any means.

Shimatsu might be able to enable a win with Barren Glory if you build a Jank combo deck around it haha

Shimatsu could be used in a belakor tribal demon deck but it would not go too far!

53:20 The Hunter Horror is kind of ridiculous in commander. It's a good political card in commander. I have a Horror tribal deck, and I've played a turn 2 Hunted Horror multiple times. A 2 mana 7/7 with trample is nothing to sneeze at.

leveler is only bad in context..it's majority a combo piece..its mostly a edh played card but in an overall sense, yea it kinda bad, only sees play in edh
