    In the main universe there's actually a backstory to the day Jameson hired Peter. Everyone tells JJ that Peter's photos are terrible but he still hires him anyway, because Jonah knows about what happened to Ben Parker (they're a newspaper after all) and Jameson just wants to give the kid a chance when nobody else will.

    I actually like it when Jameson has genuine moments, even the Rami movies showed him willing to risk his life to keep Peter safe from the Goblin.
    I don’t like it when he completely turns and goes totally pro Spider-Man but I like the idea of him knowing his identity but not dragging Peter through the mud, especially after he saves him.
    I like imagining he hates Spider-Man but cares enough about Peter to actually have his back, even if he disagrees with his actions as Spider-Man

    • @joshuarobinson6011
      @joshuarobinson6011 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      I don’t mind when he becomes pro spider man because normally it’s either after he sees Peter doing some dangerous stuff to help people (like when there was a flood and he saw Peter diving into the water that claimed so many lives already just to try to save one more person) or when he sees it’s Peter under the mask because he knows Peter is a good person so he realises Spider-Man is genuinely doing what he can to help people. Especially because if you think about it, if Spider-Man joined the police force or something he’d probably have to tell them who he is which never ends well (think secret wars when he listens to Tony and unmasks and may gets shot) so he can’t really join the police but he still does what he can to help
      JJJ comes off as abrasive but he is a pretty decent guy who genuinely does care about people. Like I’m pretty sure one version of JJJ actually hired Peter because he knew about uncle Ben dying and wanted to help Peter take care of himself and may which imo is an extremely nice thing to do. JJJ seems to see Peter almost like a son but he’s someone who seems to show tough love, like he’ll sorta shit on Peter a little but not because he dislikes Peter or anything but because he actually likes him and wants to see Peter doing better so he tries to basically push Peter to be better by chewing him out on shit

    • @rungunninja1289
      @rungunninja1289 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Always love how jjj was usually shown for as much crap as he gives Spider-Man, many of jjj version are balanced out by showing he isn’t some straw man but an actual person who has his own standards and values that he actually believes in. Several versions would never sell out his employees when they are threatened and others would even make sure to check on Peter or may if something happens to the other. Yeah like any comic character there are plenty of evil versions but what makes jjj so good is the fact he isn’t just a lex Luther character but a guy who genuinely thinks a vigilante is a bad thing. Yeah he doubled down when called out on it but he does have a reasonable point about spider man being outside the law. But that’s being human and having beliefs about how things work, doesn’t mean he is an evil man. But a human with layers and standards, whether he is right about them or not is what makes him layered. It’s what makes him and other classic Spider-Man characters work.

      Honestly, The Original Ultimate Marvel Universe (aka Earth-1610) was mostly (in fact ALMOST ENTIRELY) a lot of godawful crap. But in spite of that, Ultimate Spider-Man (the series that birthed the whole entire Ultimate Universe/Earth-1610 in the first place) was *ALWAYS* the one shining exception! Amidst a veritable *_OCEAN_* of horrific mid-&-late-2000s edgelord garbage, Ultimate Spider-Man managed to not just not-suck and not only be good and not only be great, but be consistently *AMAZING AND SPECTACULAR!*
      Even amidst the fucking *ULTIMATUM* crossover event, largely agreed to be the absolute *PEAK* of Ultimate Marvel's edgelord awfulness, the portion of the story that starred Spider-Man/Peter Parker and his supporting cast managed to still be actually *GOOD.* And it also kept being good post-Ultimatum!
      And even after Peter Parker died and the original Miles Morales took up the Spider-Mantle after him, which is where you'd have imagined the quality would tank DRASTICALLY, it *STILL* remained amazing! Pretty much right up to the conclusion of the 2015 Secret Wars mega-event - in which the mainstream original Marvel Universe of Earth-616 & the Ultimate Marvel Universe of Earth-1610 finally collided together hard enough for the smaller & less powerful Earth-1610 to shatter and cease to exist yet with various portions & elements of that universe being fused into/absorbed into Earth-616 in the process, thus concluding the original Ultimate Marvel Universe/Earth-1610 permanently (but with various aspects of it such as The Triskellion & Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury aka Nick Fury, Jr. being folded into the main Marvel Universe as a sign of respect)[¹].
      ([¹]In fact, even during that Secret Wars epic the Ultimate Spider-Man portion was great, as a group of Earth-616 characters use a special multiverse ship to travel to Earth-1610 to investigate why it & Earth-616 are colliding, and Miles Morales spots them and sneaks onto their ship just before they fly it back to Earth-616 and this winds up being how Miles Morales became part of Earth-616. They didn't just create a 616 version of him, the actual Miles Morales from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics literally traveled from the Ultimate Marvel Universe to the mainstream original Marvel Universe and since he happened to be there when Earth-1610 shattered and ceased to exist, Earth-616 just compensated for it by integrating him into the universe as if he was _always_ part of it!
      Also Earth-616 absorbing the shattered pieces of Earth-1610 into itself as I mentioned before, is how his his father & his best friend + hero-partner Genke were folded into Earth-616 as well and also how his mom was resurrected & absorbed into Earth-616 too - though _that_ part may have been a sort of "Thank you" to Miles for his instrumental role in the defeat of God Emperor Doom[²] from the Earth-616 versions of Reed & Franklin Richards during the time they spent cleaning-up the mess that Former God-Emperor Doom left in his wake, repairing & rebuilding & recreating the multiverse together as father & son as best they could while also vacationing just outside of existence & reality itself along with Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, Sue & Reed's daughter whose name I always forget, and _possibly_ also Johnny Storm.
      So the Miles Morales you see today in mainstream Earth-616 Marvel Comics isn't some new/alternate version of Miles that was created so they could still have him even after Ultimate Marvel Comics were officially discontinued, but rather he actually is *_THE_* Miles Morales - the original one who was first introduced in the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man, now living in Earth-616. In that sense, he's actually the one single piece of the original Ultimate Marvel Universe/Earth-1610 that wasn't erased from existence or given new form by being absorbed/fused into Earth-616 when Earth-1610 shattered. He's the one single piece of Earth-1610 that still exists, totally unscathed & unaltered - though the nature of multiverse stuff means his memories of his original existence on Earth-1610 ceased to exist shortly after Earth-1610 was shattered in its collision with Earth-616 and then bits & pieces of it were fused/merged/absorbed/folded-into Earth-616 and then Reed & Franklin Richards undid the damage God-Emperor Doom did to the multiverse, hit a hard-reset on it, and then repaired it and also erased the parts that couldnt be repaired & rebuilt them from the ground-up. Which also means those memories of life in Earth-1610 were replaced with basically-the-same-but-different-where-needed memories of life in Earth-616.)
      ([²]Due to the fact that Miles apparently inexplicably carries "spare cheeseburgers" in his Spider-Man suit "just in case"....somehow....and offered one to Molecule Man, which caused Molecule Man to betray Doom and help Reed & Co.)

    I miss that ultimate Spider-Man. That character and his series was the best thing about the Ultimates Universe. His run was never disappointing story wise. All of the other series were awkward, fell off or cringe. Ultimate Spider-Man was the top gem of that universe. It went down hill after they killed him off. The marketing scheme marvel tried to pull in order to capitalize off of a certain presidents popularity failed miserably to the point that they had to bring back Peter in order to save the comic.

    Remember this is a universe where their Iron Man had two conflicting backstories, all of the mutants were government experiments, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were in a relationship, and they killed Peter Parker. The Ultimate continuity was a shitshow and I'm glad they took Miles out of it.

    thing is, Jonah's more against MASKED vigilantes. ones that hide their identity. He feels it could be anyone and always could be a play. Knowing the person under the mask means he knows what they're like, he can look at their history, make more informed decisions.
    Hell, most cases where he learns who Spiderman is, he stops painting them a menace. He knows Peter, he acts tough and unfair most of the time but he respects Peter.
    I mean look at the first live action movie when Green Goblin attacks the bugle demanding to know who the photographer is that gets all the good shots of Spiderman, and Jonah's first instinct is to lie to protect Peter.

    The ultimate universe was destined to fail. They were too focused on being edgy and depressing to making anything lasting. Miles literally came out of an attempt to revamp it, but got brought to mainline continuity because they literally destroyed the earth, and then the universe.

    THATS EHY JONAHS THE GOAT! Yeah he can be a good leveled antagonist for Spider-Man in that he doesn’t see him the way others do but in that he’s not just a troll or hater, he’s a deep character and I can’t stress the word CHARACTER enough when talking about what makes him great in a lot of runs

    I don’t care 🤷‍♂️ if he’s happy in Valhalla and six gorgeous Valkyrie are attending to his every want and need. Bring Peter Parker back! They’ve brought back many lesser heroes than him. As long as he has not gone on to the ultimate destination of Marvel dead, wherever that is, they can always revive him. Miles can be his sidekick, Spider-Kid or whatever.

    I've always preferred the interpretations of Jonah as a dude with integrity. Even in the 616 he's often times an actually good journalist(if a bit of a shit boss) and I like when he goes from "argh I hate spider-man" to "I'm here to keep Spidey honest."
    For as funny as it is, I kinda hate that the games made him a sort of Rush Limbaugh and the MCU made him Alex Jones. The character of Jonah deserves better than that reduction.

    I remember a while ago I saw a thing talking about how jjj is anti vigilante but not racist, and that makes me think jjj once finding out Peter is Spider-Man, he would change his tune to being more like “for your own safety you shouldn’t be a vigilante, especially when you’re not even trained to fight. You should not give your life to protect others when you don’t even know how to protect yourself.” Idk I’m not that familiar with comics and from what I understand while yes Peter is his best employee, I see their relationship to be that of a nagging boss of which their company is kept afloat via reports and opinions on spider man. And while yes I can assume that jjj’s ideology is similar to how I think it would change, it’s more of a why not call the cops instead? Kinda of way originally. And I think it would change in a way that it seems like jjj is trying to tell Peter while not causing the company issues by talking about literally anything else. It feels more directed towards one person than telling the world to jump this random man if they see him. Regardless jjj would be conflicted if he was saved by spider man. He would likely still have his ideology but be a little less harsh compared to how he was before. I think it would be interesting for Peter to die, and Spider-Man’s disappearance to happen and jjj would not know Peter’s secret

    Ultimate Jameson's hated for spider-man was actually irrational but justified - JJ believes true heroes don't wear masks and have nothing to hide, hence why he has glowing opinions of the Ultimates, ironically.
    It wasn't until later revealed during the Ultimatum Arc that the ultimates are a$$holes, while spider-man was more heroic.

    Am I the only one who'd enjoy a comic of like a dozen different Jonahs coming together to save a version of Spiderman from being erased before he can start? I know it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, but I feel like it could just be a good book to show how there are some characters that are fundamental for our heroes. And that even these "side characters" would move heaven and hell for their heros.
