It could be chalked up to the richest guy in the area, or maybe the people think that's too easy of an answer, especially sense the richest guy in the area is such a self centered douche bag ladies man. He gives them the idea they want to see, the rich guy is just another rich douche. If they can believe that, why would they connect the dots in money? He's the richest guy in Gotham not the only person around with that kind of money.

Sometimes I forget that Spiderman is fictional, because for almost my whole life he's been real to me, more real than any other character out there.
It's because he's relatable to the ordinary folk, to the average Joe. The other heroes also have their human side, but the way they behave and think aren't really relatable to your average citizen because they see being a hero as a profession, why for Spiderman it's not like that.
Spider-Man isn’t fictional, he’s not real but he’s not fictional, he’s the best in us, the very best of us in our worst moments.
That why Stan Lee created Spider-Man
Works of fiction can be real in our imaginations and minds. I have spent my entire life reading. Many series I have read in my mind were real. Where once a long series ends. I miss the characters. The ones lost feel like real loss.

THIS. This is EXACTLY why I love Spider-Man in a nutshell and hands down possibly the best representation of Peter Parker in modern comics. And part of what makes him so timeless is that people don't only make mistakes, fail, and experience hardship when they're teenagers. We mess up throughout life, no matter what age we are. And Peter's no exception.
However long we live or wise & experienced we become, we're NEVER perfect. This is one reason I fundamentally reject the "Spider-Man can't grow up because he's more reletable as a teen" argument. No, he can't grow up because writing him as a teen is more familiar and easier to market to kids (despite the fact that his audience grew beyond kids decades ago).
A fallible Spider-Man is relatable to any age demographic that resonates with his struggles, however old or young he is in-universe. And history shows that some of the most critically successful stories are the ones set at different stages of Peter's life beyond high school-college. It's not the age range that dictates Peter's relatability, it's the humanity of his fallibility.
Specifically, it's relatable to people of potentially any age how this protagonist at his best is written like a believable human being with imperfections that can come back to bite him. He suffers, stumbles, falls, cries, rages, gets scared, feels guilty for not doing better, and occasionally despairs or wants to quit. All of this is what makes Peter great: The man, not the spider.
That humanity is his greatest strength and weakness, depending on how it's used. But in the end, Peter learns from his errors, stands up, and perseveres. So long as he's physically/mentally able to go on, Spider-Man will ALWAYS try to do good. To quote Jennifer Tilly's Madame Leota, "You try, you fail. You try, you fail. But the only true failure is when you stop trying."
Don't tell me, I started as a teen during Erik Larsen run, that was basically a soap opera with a ton of adult-only subtext. It was great, I will always love it.
And thats why Peter B. Parker is so loved since spiderman into the spiderverse
@@elalan4879 Agreed, I didn't like him and Mary Jane getting divorced but they have broken up for myriad reasons before in the comics so it's not out of character. It's equally in character, however, for their love to be so strong that they can always find their way back to each other in the end even if it takes a long while.
And I'm so happy that they not only reconciled but had a child together. It's understandable why some prefer Peter being with someone else or remaining single, whatever their reasons. Some fans, writers, and staff at Marvel just don't like MJ or think Peter being single is more responsible, practical, interesting, etc.
I personally think an older Pete can be equally or even more interesting after his time as Spider-Man is over, when he leaves NYC to a successor (Miles, Mayday, etc.) and supports them in a role more like how Tony Stark once supported him. He can still do a lot of good for others as a scientist, professor, and/or inventor.
He could become like a Lucius Fox and/or Alfred figure to the next generation of webslingers, regularly improving their new Spidey's gadgets & collaborating on new tools, repairing damage on suits + crafting new versions for different missions, sharing wisdom from his crime-fighting days with new blood, etc.
In serious emergencies (Ex- Avenger-level threat), Peter could occasionally suit up again with an advanced suit to compensate for his age (He'd be past his physical prime but still pretty powerful, not a weakened old man). But as long as Marvel's old heads keep regressing Peter, that won't happen in canon anytime soon.

I want him to grow up for the same reason I enjoy seeing any character grow up. I want to see them live their lives with all the good and bad that comes with it. Seeing the characters that I relate to or even just enjoy seeing grow older and learn more makes me feel less scared and more okay to do so myself.
The fact that Peter actually went to get a hotdog every day is HILARIOUS
I love this story because of how raw it felt seeing Spidey show up at the warehouse and absolutely dismantling the criminals.
Haven't seen Pete portrayed that angry since Back in Black

I wish there were more situations where superheroes don't always save someone, much like how in healthcare, there is often times where someone is in a situation where they can't be saved. Seeing superheroes go through the feelings after would be good for people to read and understand.
Trust me I’m BEGGING for the writers of the next Miles morales spider man movie to make it so he DOESNT save his dad because this is the exact thing I wanna see.
Yap, makes them feel more relatable and in terms we appreciate them more cause they’re more relatable. Not exactly the same situation, but Tony in iron man 3 is a good example. Throughout the movie we see him suffering from PTSD, having panic attacks and what not cause of what happened in avengers 1 brings him closer down to earth in a good way

This story is actually really sweet and amazing. It may have sad undertones but it truly understands the character, this is Spider-Man. I really hope we get to see more of this in depth and personal relationship between Spider-Man and the public in Spider-Man 4.
I would love if a recreation of this comic was the ending of Spider-Man 4, I think it would fit really well

Dude, just seeing Peter as spider-man tutoring Kyle is genuinely so wholesome to see.
One of the greatest things to learn about Spider-man legacy in the future in the comics is that in the far far far future where cable (X-Men characters) is from. Cable says to Spider-Man that he is the only one who is vividly remembered as THE greatest hero of all time, while most of the heroes faded away which I think is sweet.
It’s honestly beautiful how well they make Spider-man an actually real and relatable person in this comic. This is how he feels relatable to me.
When Spidey sees that video and hears what Captain America -- *CAPTAIN GODDAMN AMERICA!* -- said about him, I betcha he'll treasure it forever

The comic reminds me of Spider-Man 1 (2002)'s interview montage of all citizens giving their thoughts on Spider-Man, but this comic pushing it further and make it more touching and emotional, Chip Zdarsky is such good writer.

I love Spider-Man. He is the greatest superhero of all time. One thing I have noticed about most great superheroes is that they didn't choose to be a superhero; through tragedy, they were pushed into being one. Spider-Man embodies sacrifice, perseverance, and overcoming personal challenges. And that's what I love about Spider-Man.

What an amazing story. It really embodies the character of Spider-Man.
There’s this Spiderman comic that always makes me tear up but almost no one covers it. It’s about this kid who is in an abusive household and every time he goes into his room he imagines Spiderman and talks to him the issue ends with the kids mom passing away and the kid has to leave his house and he has to say goodbye to imaginary Spiderman The Spiderman tells him that men don’t hug they shake hands and he unmasks himself as an African American Spiderman. I have no idea what issue it is but it really hits the feels.

My favorite Spidey moments is when the OAA walked him to a sunny beach, filled with people, to reassure a mentally battered Parker of all the peoples lives he has saved over the years.

One small detail I quite liked in this story is how they kept Venom’s debut design. Is it weird that I think Venom looks more menacing with a creepy ass smile with regular teeth instead of sharp fangs. I’m glad they brought it back as an Easter egg.

i can't imagine how hard that would be in real life
if i were in spidermans shoes i would have been heartbroken, blamed myself and i honestly think i would have lost control and possibly killed the criminals and may have called it a day and quit being spiderman after that
This Story was Beautiful, I teared watching this, People need to see this side of the story in Cinemas, the side of a normal bystanders perspective and how one Person can make a difference for better or worse, this is why love Spiderman ❤
That really does capture the essence of the guy I've been reading about since 1972.
As long as you exist, someone will hate you no matter who you are or what you do. That’s just a fact of life. If you think nobody hates you, you either don’t get out much or you’re lying to yourself. The fact Peter lives with this every day, knowing he’s doing his best but no matter what he does he’ll always be hated by at least somebody, that’s real perseverance and determination. He’s human. He makes mistakes. And those mistakes will always be held against him no matter what. And he keeps going and doing his best. He’s a great role model. He’s not a billionaire like stark, a military man like rogers, or a scientist like banner or richards (although he is definitely smart enough to be one), he’s a kid from queens. He does what’s right because it’s right. Not because he wants something out of it. He represents everything I want to be. If I got bitten by a radioactive spider, I know I wouldn’t be as good as Peter but I’d damn well try to be. (I mean there’s also the issue of be being a girl not a guy but that’s secondary. I’d still try to be a spider-person like him.)

I was talking to my wife earlier about Spider-Man. She asked me who was my top five comic book characters. Spider-Man is in the top 3. IT’s stories like this is why I love Spider-Man.

Stories like this are what I'd love to see in a tv show.
Superman and Spider-Man to me are the two that truly feel like the types that would help people by just being there with them, not being a symbol or a good guy that stops bad guys. Just two people that would help because they felt like someone needed a shoulder lean on, an ear to lend, or a hand to hold.
(I know many superheroes have there moments like this, but I just feel like Superman and Spider-Man highlight it better than most why superheros are always needed in stories, because deep down they are us in life just as much as they are in comics)

I like to imagine this story also happened in Spiderverse 1610 (movie Miles' universe). I'd then like to think the guy would make a second documentary interviewing the same people after the news of his death... Maybe even asking the new Spider-Man (Miles)... It'd be so sad but also kinda bittersweet...
1610 is also the same universe as the original ultimate comics, in which Peter Parker also died, so this comic can work there as well

I was really hoping Peter was gonna tell him he found out from an old friend and it would just be him catching up with the mom. Just plays into his character of being involved in peoples lives.
Love how out of the many of those intervjus the captain America, the mother who lost her son to a bunch of criminals and Peter parker aka. Spiderman was the only ones that gave out a realistic form of praise for spiderman while portraying him as a simple normal human despite his spider powers.
Never mind the fact that Peter parker comment about being an conflict of interest is him in a sense confessing to being spiderman while hiding behind the fact that he have taken pictures of himself and having a personal connection with his alter ego and most importantly of all is that he is perfectly neutral about his words of himself by pointing out the good things he have done and hopes that he makes a change that brings happiness to the people he saves in the process while also pointing out his own flaws and that he is a human that can make mistakes like any other person on the street and in spite of his failures he keep moving forward learning from his mistakes as he goes on to save people!!
This is the spider man stanley believes in.

This is gonna sound weird, but spidey saved me. I was being picked on daily, stopped talking unless spoken to. I just wanted to be invisible and yet I was so lonely. And yeah, suicidal. I was reading comics. The old horror ones, I think they matched my mood back then. I picked up a spidey book when I was 12. This little nerdy quiet kid who had super powers. Far from perfect, made so many mistakes but kept going every day. For some reason, i wanted to be like spidey. My life wasnt perfect, but i kept trying. It really felt like I had a friend. And When I pick up the next graphic novel and sit in the corner, I visit my friend and he tells me a story. Love you Spidey.
That was a good synopsis of that story. I especially liked it ending on the sound of a page turn. Well done

Superheroes are those characters that make you believe in hope. I guess you could say that they guide us. In a way. We read all these comics of our favourite heroes and heroines and spend time in their world and then we're able to make our real one just a little bit better.

Man this was so good I need to read the entire Chip Zdarsky Spidey run. Planning to do the same with his Daredevil and Howard The Duck run as well. I think these will be good to start my first time reading a comic book run
What stuck out for me was how, after learning what happened to Kyle from Kyle's mom, Spidey went after the mooks who killed him ... and when he takes them down, he does so without a word. Everyone in Marvel New York knows what that means: when Spidey isn't cracking wise, he's ready to crack bones. And yet the cops find the mooks safe and sound, if knocked senseless. Even in the throes of what must have been blinding rage, Spidey stayed a hero.
That is such a beautiful story.
i imagine the superhero community having quite a bit of a snicker at the fact that the last interview in the documentary (if it ever gets a release) is the man himself.
