TONY MC ALPINE OWNED!!, alone, in the dark, separate from the rest, and anyway he play the best solo of this performance by far, not to mention, satriani do the best soulful tribute to hendrix...
This has got to be one of my favourite videos on TH-cam, never mind quality of the recording, this is felt-melting, mind-blowing classic rock, four exceptionally talented guitarists paying homage to the God of guitar.....So let's stop arguing and enjoy this 10 minute slice of musical heaven, shall we?
Tony mcalpine's playing.....his melodies.... the first time I heard his first albums from when he was young it was awesome as if he practiced guitar in another planet he clearly developed his own unique style
Each artist is fantastic in their own way. I went to the show specifically to see Orianthi and loved her work (and the fact that she gave me a wave too from the stage). This girl can play any genre she's asked to. Her understanding of her instrument and music is phenomenal. A month after this gig she was on the road with Alice Cooper having picked up his whole show in a day or two. And she stole the show on his stage as well. She is truly one of the greats.
For Orianthi to be playing with such guitar greats at her age shows what a talented player she is i think and the respect they have for her, they all groove on each others playing...
In their defense. Himi also crammed a bunch of crazy notes live as well. Steve Vai played the Best IMO here, tracking the chord changes really well and mind-blowing tremolo control.
Almost in tears from the first Satriani solo. Great video and song. Love Hendrix and his legacy is in that music all we have to do is keep it alive for the future.
Yea, Satriani is closer to the original idea of the tune. By far the bluesiest licks in this performance. That's maybe because he is the oldest guy here, he is just closer to the times of Woodstock.
I honestly don't get why people come into a video likes this and then start bashing the players in the video. This is a video, a cover, and a tribute. It's not meant to be compared to the original. They are playing a song they love and want to dedicate to Hendrix. If you're really hating on anything about this video, you don't get the first thing about music.
Steve's tone is incredible, he has the best feel for this song and did it justice, Orianthi also had some nice licks as well. SRV owns this cover tune though no one to date can outplay him on it. RIP SRV
people hating on steve vai just dnt know a good guitarist when they hear one he is one of the greatest. the man may not be able to sing but he sings thru his guitar.
Oh thank God...I thought I was the only one that thought that! Via really disappointed me and I'm not even certain that that bleach bottle blonde has ever heard the song, much less have any clue what the blues is about. She was too busy trying to show Joe and Stevie that she could play fast and forgot to put any emotion in it.
Jeff Crowley Jimi wouldn’t have wanted them to play like him. He would have wanted them to play like them. They each have their own sounds bringing out different atmospheres. Jimi wasn’t a blues player but more of a psychedelic rock player
I always love a "Little Wing" version, and this as as good as any and better than most. The fourth guy is Tony MacAlpine, and I've lived his playing longer than I've known Satch existed. Check out this Maximum Security album.
Dave Jacoby It's unfortunate he wasn't mentioned in the title. He's a lot more by-the-book than Vai or Satch, but he makes consistently good instrumental music.
People comparing this to Hendrix don't know anything about music. This is a cover. Covers are not meant to sound like the original. If they did, they would be poorly made. Hendrix was amazing. These four are amazing. And every single one of them is different. Five completely different styles. THIS IS WHAT MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT. Shut up and enjoy it.
here's the conversation: orianthi: "im fucking running, running and running out of oxygen". Steve Vai: " I feel you, try this shit"...Tony McAlpine: "I agree with you Stevie, I almost feel like Orianthi"...Joe Satriani: CHILL MO'FO'S RELAX AND ENJOY THE RIDE"
Can never get over how beautiful Tony's playing is here. I remember watching the livestream of this show, this was at like 5am for me (in the UK) and I was blown away, there are always gonna be complaints on a video like this, but this has to be one of my favourite Little Wing covers!
Dhika Yudha Perdana a little bit, but Ibanez is a better guitar than Musicman as far as Petrucci's situation. Vai's situation was, when he started playing, all there was was the Fender Strat (the perfect shred guitar at the time) but Ibanez developed an advanced version of the Fender Strat some years later (RG) and the 24 fret Wizard neck was incorporated....perfect shred guitar. don't know what Petrucci was thinking when he switched to Musicman but good luck to him.
Never heard orianthi play so good as in that solo she did blew me away.very powerful.satrianis solo was the most bluesy orianthi deserves to be where she is with that playing
spectacular!!! Great intro story. I have a 30 year old acoustic that brings back memories. I play it today but the best thing is whenI don't play it for a bunch of months, then pick it up. It is like shaking the hand of an old friend. We all have learned this song. I learned it on my 30 year old "Prudence". I can't play it this well of course.
There's a lot of options in guitars...Satriani is awesome as always. Vai is completely different..yet, in my opinion, is as modern as you can get. He also emulates Satriani and clearly is a favorite for many. Orianthi is new. Not necessarily fresh, but in a male dominated world of guitar players, she holds her own quite well. Whether she messed up or not, she is definitely still grooving and learning- and plays better than I. Little Wing is not my favorite Hendrix song...I'd prefer Red House on a jam with three players like this. But it looks like it was a good show. You don't often get three for this price of one. So..let's not hate people. Enjoy it for what it is!
You have a guitar Jimi played and kinda ruin with all the effects. Vai has always been great, but this once he could have laid off a bit with the effects. Ori just tried to cram as many notes as she could in there.
If you watch Dweezil describe the guitar @ Norman's Rare Guitars....you'll see that this guitar was nothing BUT^effects. And so was Jimi....A little fast play, long held notes with lots & lots of effects. A good guitar player, yes ,but Jimi was nowhere near the talent of Zappa, Trower, Blackmore, Vaughan, Santana & Satriani. Very few effects and just pure guitar wizardry & soul. Zappa's Watermelons in Easter hay or Santana's Samba Pa Ti are soulful plays. I'd even throw in Ween's Tear for Eddie, Although Dean Ween was not much more that a cord strummer
+Jprovi218 I know Jimi played with effects, but he didn't use all the stuff Vai uses. Seems better to just play it as is, or use some vintage stompboxes.
I'm not even going to read or comment on the comments. It's a beautiful song written by a beautiful man and played here by beautiful artists. What more do you want?
This comment nailed it, anyone can learn to shred in a matter of a few tears, learning phrasing and playing with taste, knowing what to play when, that takes true dedication to your craft.
i totally agree people dont even experience things anymore they cant just live in the moment they have to record anything and everything, its very sad... concerts are just thousands of people holding phones up in the air now >.
Angels have little wings to fly, wherever they want to dwell. So, do not forget to feel the air around you, sometimes for easing yourself, sometimes for easing others. Well, have a nice day. The spring might've really arrived today.
Joe definitely nailed it...We all know Joe is the real deal when it comes to Jimi Hendrix, his major influence. You can spot that right away when listening to any of his songs..
I think all is good and she's hanging in there and that's how you become a great player. Gotta wing it no matter what. Stevie and Satch didn't become great overnight either. just saying.
Wonder if Jimi is lookin down, smilin, and wishing he could touch a string again...great video. All great players. All music is equal. Thankyou for posting.
I wonder what they're paying Satriani and Vai to be charing the stage with Orianthi and letting her butcher every single piece of music they play... Especially Joe Satriani might be offended because he's been around the longest. Maybe she might develop a unique style in time but for now all I hear is generic shredding. But yes, at this performance they kinda all suck a little bit... everyone but the guy on the left that doesn't get any credit.
Tony mcalpine's playing.....his melodies.... the first time I heard his first albums from when he was young it was awesome as if he practiced guitar in another planet he clearly developed his own unique style

Hah... All the folks putting down Orianthi seem to be crotchety old dudes. Buck up, life isn't so bad that ya gotta bitch about random stuff on youtube... It'll be ok.
Not seeing how she looks "lost" maybe just not as comfortable with Hendrix as she is other artists. Vai, Satriani and others grew up with Hendrix, she grew up with them. Most 20 somethings don't jam out to Eric Clapton or Pete Townsend so why expect her to be comfortable with a guy who died 15 years before she was born?
She has way more feel than Vai. She gets to the notes she wants when she wants. Vai has zero blues feel. His intro to little wing sounds like a high schooler who just learned his first jimi song. That's not to say Vai isn't far more technically proficient than Ori, but her feel and soul on the instrument is quite frankly beautiful. She is playing complicated and sophisticated runs there too. It's way more than shredding. Vai would freely admit and has admitted that blues isn't his thing. See in his solo that he played it more Prog? It was nasty, don't get me wrong, but the feel wasn't there. Just my opinion anyway
None of them could touch Stevie Ray... He played this song better than Guitar Jimi. Steve Vai is amazing, but his sound is hollow and lacks ANY feeling.

I have 8 years of music experience with music and have listened to hendrix my whole life, i can tell you that jimi wouldn't give a single shit about your so called, "apology"
whats crazy is that 45 years later this song still has that emotional impact on you that jimi must have had when he created it. i heard its about his mom
amazing! the weird thing about guitars, just a lump of wood and metal in the hands of someone spiritually connected to it and what it represents can love it, touch it, play it and transmit to the audience such a strong vibe you feel a part of that history and respect. Steve Vai, hats off to you, the keeper of the scrolls! we forgive you the singing
TONY MC ALPINE OWNED!!, alone, in the dark, separate from the rest, and anyway he play the best solo of this performance by far, not to mention, satriani do the best soulful tribute to hendrix...
Oh man Joe's playing was so sweet, you could literally feel the soul behind the notes. Incredible.
My respect for Ori is undying. She's absolutely amazing regardless of age!
My friend, on this stage there are only truly great people with musical quality. hugs!
L' età non c'entra 😗😗😗
I met Satriani in Raleigh in 2008 and he was the nicest guy! His music is even better to me now because he's so genuine! I agree, keep the arts alive!
Having been there, I can say that this was amazing live.
Satriani make the best guitar solos in than song, More feeling, best picking and clean sound. The best.

Almost in tears from the first Satriani solo. Great video and song. Love Hendrix and his legacy is in that music all we have to do is keep it alive for the future.
Solo satriani riesce ad interpretarla. Non c'è altro da dire, è un genio assoluto della chitarra
Quello dopo satriani scandaloso, nemmeno alle jam di paese
Watching Orianthi again, and crying again.. this is so beautiful it hurts
The drums sound awesome.
I cried a lil when Orianthi soloed, I cried a good bit when Steve played, and I’m still cryin from Joe’s
Satch just showed why he was the teacher of Vai...perfect solo
Steve Vai s solo is pure "Spirit and Soul"
Satriani really did the song justice.
And only one who just didn't overplay it. Phrasing is better than others.
He can give the notes breath in between them.
Yea, Satriani is closer to the original idea of the tune. By far the bluesiest licks in this performance. That's maybe because he is the oldest guy here, he is just closer to the times of Woodstock.
Fitzliputzli23 Hendrix' death motivated Joe to start playing
fantomfoto .i agree
I was shocked when he started singing, sounds a LOT like Hendrix.
Still my favorite cover of this song is SRV.
4 badass performances though for sure!
Steve's tone is incredible, he has the best feel for this song and did it justice, Orianthi also had some nice licks as well. SRV owns this cover tune though no one to date can outplay him on it. RIP SRV
I think Hendrix would be proud of where his legacy has gone and the interpretation of this song. Simply beautiful.
Jimi's alive and well, that's his playing, inspiration and feeling increased a hundred-fold.
joe mentor steve mentor orianthi + tony =awesome & explosive.
I was at this concert. Steve Vai was thoroughly impressed with Tony McAlpine.
who said vai can't play blues? this is just awesome
Love you orianthi
The best part 4:40 when the Master start the class with great execution and powerful bends like at 5:19. SRV's version still in first place.
Steve whispered thats the true badass right there!
tony mcalpine owned totally!! humble, on the side, the soul and also de speed on the right amount...
Of the four of them, Joe has the best feel by far.
Yes, i agree
people hating on steve vai just dnt know a good guitarist when they hear one he is one of the greatest. the man may not be able to sing but he sings thru his guitar.
Satriani's solo was the best one.
yep.
the most simple and original
Oh thank God...I thought I was the only one that thought that! Via really disappointed me and I'm not even certain that that bleach bottle blonde has ever heard the song, much less have any clue what the blues is about. She was too busy trying to show Joe and Stevie that she could play fast and forgot to put any emotion in it.

@@f1avory Jimi, not a blues player? I larf. Go listen to "Hey Joe" or "Hear My Train A Comin''" and tell me that.
Joe Satriani is just out of this world!! True Alien!!
Dave Jacoby I'm just gonna call him "The Tone" seeing as his tone is the tits.
Tony is Awesome !!!

Nah they all got this....some of the best shredders
Can never get over how beautiful Tony's playing is here.
I remember watching the livestream of this show, this was at like 5am for me (in the UK) and I was blown away, there are always gonna be complaints on a video like this, but this has to be one of my favourite Little Wing covers!
seeing vai playing a fender strat and not an Ibanez is weird.
Puertecitos68 It is... do you know he used a modded strat (little greeny or greeny meany or something) on his first album Flexable?
Simon de rycke yeah im not surprised also he played strats with zappa.
+Puertecitos68 Sounds like shite too,
He played fender before Ibanez, that's like Petrucci played Ibanez before musicman.
Dhika Yudha Perdana a little bit, but Ibanez is a better guitar than Musicman as far as Petrucci's situation. Never heard orianthi play so good as in that solo she did blew me away.very powerful.satrianis solo was the most bluesy orianthi deserves to be where she is with that playing
the best version of Little Wing, apart from Jimi's, is SRV's
Check the Concrete Blonde version and let us know what you think. ;-)
Eric?
Grey Fox Eric Johnson?
Clapton
Grey Fox oh, never heard it, gonna check it out
spectacular!!! Great intro story. I have a 30 year old acoustic that brings back memories. I play it today but the best thing is whenI don't play it for a bunch of months, then pick it up. as always satriani, the best solo
Satch pretty much mops the floor with the rest of them
The fact that you guys see this as a competition, means you missed it.
Perhaps next time tell us why you liked Satriani's solo.
Chaerul Anwar Azis are you kidding? Tony McAlpine totally stole it from everyone. totally different level. which is saying something.
Crazy, man! Satriani, Vai and Orianthi are amazing! Thanks for this video

Thats guitars a relic. I wonder where it will be in 100 years
Joe gave me goosebumps during his solo.
Joe Satch sweeps them all, the best blues solo of them all with feel.......Love you Joe, you are the Guru!........
Orianthi is not just a pretty face, she got talent that only God can give.
WOW! I've been sitting watching guitars all night and this is by far the best. Amazing!
All these guitarists can do things Hendrix couldn't (or maybe just didn't), but none of them can do what Hendrix could.
You have a guitar Jimi played and kinda ruin with all the effects. Vai has always been great, but this once he could have laid off a bit with the effects. Ori just tried to cram as many notes as she could in there.
+ccampau there's no feeling in it. It's just a show of how good they are.

very very very very true
I Love Their Version however I love Stevie's Version as well. So glad I had the chance to meet them both in person briefly.
First time I've seen Vai sing and first time I've seen him play something other than an Ibanez
I'm not even going to read or comment on the comments. It's a beautiful song written by a beautiful man and played here by beautiful artists. What more do you want?
Orianthi: I shred..
Steve: you still have a lot to learn Ori..
Joe: you still have a lot to learn Steve
:)))
kravenkorvinus EVH:hold my coke lines, ashtray and beer
This comment nailed it, anyone can learn to shred in a matter of a few tears, learning phrasing and playing with taste, knowing what to play when, that takes true dedication to your craft.
We have listen to G3-people playing Little Wing many times, but this beats them all. - Thanks for posting.
gotta say satriani definitely takes the medal on this one! (if it were a competition :P)
Great to see this Famous Axe being played again.. Rock ON..!!!
Dimebag solo out of nowhere would be cool.
that would be cool no matter what it is haha
Lol 5 years later and it's still funny
Damn what an awesome cover!! I'll bet the sound in that room was amazing. You know a cell phone mic just can't do it justice. Thanks for the up-load.
how stupid is to be at a live consert and finding yourself watching it from the screen of your phone.
Thanks to him you can watch it on TH-cam ;-)
i totally agree people dont even experience things anymore they cant just live in the moment they have to record anything and everything, its very sad... concerts are just thousands of people holding phones up in the air now >.
Thanks to him you can watch this awesome video...

+eiji idogawa beautyfull.
Thank you so much :)
nice
All of em great but for my taste i really like what Satriani was doing.
I love orianthi ❤❤❤
McAlpine just owned all of them
Joe definitely nailed it...We all know Joe is the real deal when it comes to Jimi Hendrix, his major influence. You can spot that right away when listening to any of his songs..
I think all is good and she's hanging in there and that's how you become a great player. Gotta wing it no matter what. Stevie and Satch didn't become great overnight either. just saying.
this thing never gets old. GOLDEN
ORIANTHI !!!! FOR SURE!!!
Out of the three.
To make out with.....sure, playing guitar.....not so much. She is decent but no where near the same league.
Orianthi best solo!
Wonder if Jimi is lookin down, smilin, and wishing he could touch a string again...great video. All great players. All music is equal. Thankyou for posting.
The only guitarist that could play little wing as good as Hendrix, was SRV.
This is too damn cool!!!! Vai, Satriani, Orianthi, & Macalpine on stage jammin' together!!!! This rocks on all levels!!!!!
vai, satriani and malmsteen version is better than this.. not even close :))
Thank You for keeping Jimi's music alive
I wonder what they're paying Satriani and Vai to be charing the stage with Orianthi and letting her butcher every single piece of music they play... Especially Joe Satriani might be offended because he's been around the longest. Maybe she might develop a unique style in time but for now all I hear is generic shredding. But yes, at this performance they kinda all suck a little bit... everyone but the guy on the left that doesn't get any credit.
+Simon de rycke the guy on the left is tony macalpine. shame nobody knows that...
+Chris Xero We sure do know Tony MacAlpine. a Real shredman between Satch and Vai. Still don't know what oreo is ding on the stage..
Tony mcalpine's playing.....his melodies.... the first time I heard his first albums from when he was young it was awesome as if he practiced guitar in another planet he clearly developed his own unique style
Tony mcalpine's playing.....his melodies.... the first time I heard his first albums from when he was young it was awesome as if he practiced guitar in another planet he clearly developed his own unique style

As skilled as all 4 of them are, I see no ego in any of them. Its just the love for music, and it unites everyone.
satriani saved the song
Riding the wind with Steve ...
boy are guys fucked up on something, she can play!!!
+Dick Hurts She sure can! I can't believe these fools whining about too much shredding!
Dick Hurts met her at the Baked Potato after a jam with some more well known guys. She was cool, sweet and feisty. Really impressed with her.
hay ojon que chulada la srta orianthi buenisima para la lira, con respeto, dios le brinde salud a ud y a todos
Hah... All the folks putting down Orianthi seem to be crotchety old dudes. Buck up, life isn't so bad that ya gotta bitch about random stuff on youtube... It'll be ok.
This crotchety old dude thinks Orianthi is a breath of fresh air. Any "old guy" that thinks otherwise is a dinosaur.
I'm not a crotchety old dude and I think she suck.Learn to take an opinion before bitching about other people bitching on youtube.
Killer mix, Ori sounds wicked...nice capture!
Orianthi shows she just doesn't understand this stuff at all - probably too young.
She sounds a bit lost.
I dont think age has anything to do with it
"probably" I know what you mean ^_^
Not seeing how she looks "lost" maybe just not as comfortable with Hendrix as she is other artists. Vai, Satriani and others grew up with Hendrix, she grew up with them. Most 20 somethings don't jam out to Eric Clapton or Pete Townsend so why expect her to be comfortable with a guy who died 15 years before she was born?
Yes she try to make it cum too fast and too many "stupid" notes.
Come to Portugal...Orianthi...you are awesome
Exactly,, great minds think alike I guess 😅😅😅😂
I love Joe's subtle playing, he really makes you feel the song =D
None of them could touch Stevie Ray... He played this song better than Guitar Jimi.
Steve Vai is amazing, but his sound is hollow and lacks ANY feeling.
These noise makers should be ashamed to post that sh**t on the net. Where is feeling, finesse, in one word music in this? That's what happens when one have more fingers than emotion. May I recommend to listen again to Jimi Hendrix or, if you want a cover version, Gil Evans or even Sting
You are letting a bias cloud your view.
Idiot
Beautiful song of Jimi...
Miss you si much partent...
Cecile Dustyn & Angelik love you...
The total massacre of the song.i personaly apologize to jimmi
Jimi doesnt give a single fuck about your apology. Fuck you mean
Oskar it is normal that u reason this way.u have no musical knowledge.
arioui fayssal Atleast he spelled jimis name right lol but yea....not a fan of this. Joe did it right though
I have 8 years of music experience with music and have listened to hendrix my whole life, i can tell you that jimi wouldn't give a single shit about your so called, "apology"
GREEEEEEEATTTTT !!!! THE BEST OF THE WORRRRLDDD!!!! DO IT MAGIC !!!! I LOVE YOU!! FANTASTIC ARMONIST.
You're so focused on the guitar solo that you forget there's an extraordinary drummer there
Lovely crazy guitarist legends!
I like that!
Wonderful!
man what talented people love steve vai
How about some Tony Macalpine love. Dude has been sharing the stage with these guys for years and hes a fucking monster
Steve and Orianthi doing classic Jimi, brilliant interpretations of THE MASTER
whats crazy is that 45 years later this song still has that emotional impact on you that jimi must have had when he created it. i heard its about his mom
El maestro, el mejor alumno y una rubía petera que supo donde, cuando y con quienes.....
amazing! the weird thing about guitars, just a lump of wood and metal in the hands of someone spiritually connected to it and what it represents can love it, touch it, play it and transmit to the audience such a strong vibe you feel a part of that history and respect. Steve Vai, hats off to you, the keeper of the scrolls! we forgive you the singing
