Hard to believe this has been on TH-cam for 17 years. I bet I've watched it a 100 times over the years. Sometimes you get the right mix of musicians and it's magical. Just like this is.
One of the best ever, everyone apart of everything.. can't beat it. It's timeless, like someone winning a series that breaks records that can't be beaten.
It is unbelievable how you can have so many musicians on one stage, each one an absolute master of their craft/instrument, each one absolutely stealing the show, but staying out of each other's way for the good of the performance. This is what astronomical talent without ego is capable of
You seriously think that Trumpet player stayed out of the way? Satriani was playing one of the greatest guitar solos I've ever heard and that guy wouldn't shut it.
@@JBTFan124 They were working off each other and were digging it. It's a shared lead, except with a trumpet and guitar instead of two guitars...ask them. ;-)

Willy Waldman's trumpeting transports this version of Cortez the Killer from great to other wordly. When he comes back into the song after Joe's guitar solo the notes he blows sound as if he's announcing the arrival of a Spanish galions onto shore. It certainly got Grace's attention as she looked over at him with this "are you kidding me" smile.
Joe Satriani is ( confirmed here) from another planet. And in the middle of his searing, scorching, insane note bending rant….you can tell by his blank face that he has actually left the show to be with his people in another galaxy. Mind blowing
Still haven't found a better song to play. The blend and banter between the trumpet and guitar. If someone said you can only listen to one song the rest of your life. I know where to go.
what an amazing video. Grace steals the show early and then Satriani goes blind and takes it to another level! The trumpet player is epic. So much to love here
Epic but miles away from the real deal, Satriani is just like any other guitar player still needs to eat a lot of loaf bread to understand the way Neil Young played this song, just a bunch of amateurs!!!
I have watched this many times and it still sends shivers down my spine. The expression on Grace’s face at the end when she realises how supremely well they have nailed it is priceless. Grace, Willy and Joe are sublime and shout out to the rest of the band. Great camera work too. Perfection. My favourite TH-cam music clip by far and I listen to an awful lot. Going to listen to it again right now
I’ve watched this performance close to 50 times now and I’m still just as blown away as the first time! Update: just came back for another view and had goosebumps!!!
I'm glad this was recorded. The whole performance is awesome. Grace's voice with everyone else's work are worthy of the test of time. 14 years later I still stop and listen when this comes up my rotation
So many groups have played this cover that I believe it has become a staple standard paying respects to the original song. Still my favorite artist to play this cover song.
The sheer joy on their faces at the end is priceless. Each one being amazed the others on stage. Everyone was phenomenal. What a performance. But my boy Satch………the real killer.
Wally is over the moon. Look at the post-end-of-song gesticulations. I love it, to see a fellow human so happy. And so he should be. He was amazing, they all were amazing.
I have come back to it almost 100 times over the years .. Like you said its one of the best Live performances I have ever heard as well . The sad part is I had never heard of Grace Potter before finding this Gem .
What would life be without talent like this, Amazing! - I keep coming back, not because Joe is so good, or Grace is so beautiful or this trumpet is jaw dropping - or maybe that’s exactly why.
At 4:08, Joe looks like he is being transported to another dimension. What a performance!! Grace's voice incredible, trumpet player and drummer incredible, rest of band incredible.
no matter how many times I hear this covered by different artists, I always come back to this version.. always my favorite!! grace is magical, satriani is a god, the trumpet player is fire.. I could go on and on!!!
I just had to come back! You beautiful people did an excellent job!❤❤❤ I used to think there was no way that a woman could cover that song. Well, I found one.❤❤❤
While I’ve listened to this at least 40 times, I’m constantly impressed with Willy Waldmans performance. I spent 3 years playing the trumpet growing up and never imagined that instrument could be so amazing! I now wish I would have stuck with it!
I love the way the whole band just falls in with Grace they see how happy she is to be performing with them and then they all show the respect back to her and the fans thank all of you for a great performace carry on forever.
12 years on and this cover still blows me away. Yup, Satriani is a fantastic guitar innovator and yes, Grace is amazing singing and yes Reed Mathis is keeping a nasty groove going and my god, what about Willy jammin' on the trumpet....but it's really the combined power of ALL involved during this one rare moment in time that combine to create this masterpiece. No matter what, I'll still return to this even 20 years later.
OMG. Truly a virtuoso performance. The trumpet is mind blowing how it drives the groove. Satriani and Potter out of their minds. They knew they were next level. Grace’s smile at the end said it all.
That guy played his ASS off. Sweating like crazy and some of the most soulful stuff I have ever hear. Cannot wait to show my kid the Trumpet player here....
@Gary Shaffer I disagree...trumpet player matched note for note with Satch..was enjoyable to watch them play off each other at same time not taking away from the performance.
@Gary Shaffer Expand your mind. There are a lot of great electric bands that feature the trumpet prominently. Try Chicago Transit Authority, Cold Blood, Sons of Champlin, Tedeschi/Trucks band, Blood Sweat and Tears, Sly and the Family Stone among others.
My brother cued me up to watch this. I have now seen it 5 times. These musicians are just creating magic... completely lost in the moment capturing the very best of Neil Young's classic.Amazing.
Jesus, best live performance I've heard/seen in at least a decade. What incredible talent just jamming and having fun with other legendary artists. This performance is unforgettable!!
This ....this is as close to musical perfection as it gets. Chills, every time. Wish I could have been there. ✌️🤘 This is also the true meaning of, 'Nailed it'!
should he under-play? Warren plays the hell out of this song, 18 minutes long usually - why should Joe hang back? I think the notes are tasty and sufficient.
What I love most is Grace's reaction towards the end of the song, like she realizes how amazing this sounds and to me she is as much a fan at that moment as she is a performer.
Might be close to 1000 views for me. First saw this with less than a million views... Rehearsals? See that guy's comment that they hardly rehearsed. Musicians of this caliber can just toast it, and they certainly did. When Steve Kimock is your rhythm guitarist in the background you KNOW the band is insane. SO glad this was captured! (It's why I record every one of our band's gigs, you never know when the Muse with bestow her magic on you!) And yes, the Dave Matthews/Warren Haynes Live in Central Park is equally stunning.
It simply doesn’t get any better for a live performance. I mean..how? Equally good to be sure but this was truly extraordinary. Hell, just look at Grace go ‘Jordan’ on Satriani at the end; she knew they just laid down a highlight reel jam.
Masterpiece. This is so emotional. Look at Joe's face. He is in another place. He is looking into the story behind the song. It is really very emotional.
Absolutely Andy only came across Grace, whilst watching her on " live at Daryl's house", she is such class, she's stunning, and talented, the supporting musicians are top draw 👍
Grace is the she-ite for sure! She's one of music's best kept secrets. Here she still has her girl next door look. I hated what the label did to her a few years back giving her this bleached blonde "chick' look. It wasn't and isn't her.

This performance is unbelieveble! Grace is simply amazing. I shiver everytime i listen to this. Thank you all, including Neil Young, for this masterpiece!
This is truly one of the best random supergroup performances ever. It's all been said in the comments but the one thing I haven't seen mentioned is Steve Kimock (an amazing guitar player in his own right) just chilling in the middle of this sound bubble smiling. I often wish to trade places with him for these 6+ minutes and just exist in that plane without having to do anything but play chords and get lifted off the face of the earth!
So much talent in this vid...unbelievable...most excellent cover...love Willy Waldman's contribution...who ever would have thought horns on this song would make it so special...and so excellent...
I love to read all the comments. It’s amazing that we have a way to enjoy a live performance after the fact and we all get to be a part of the same mind blowing experience across space and time. Everyone commenting has come back dozens of times.
Seeing the pure and absolute joy on Grace Potter's face in this video brings tears of happiness to my eyes!!! The music and musicians are spot on! That voice!! I wish her voice could trun into rain and wash over me every day!! Look how she lights up at the guitar and trumpet. She is having so much fun!!! It's alive and I love it!!!!❤

Got to love Grace, her vocals put chills in my spine. And Joey...need I say more.
This performance is unbelieveble! Grace is simply amazing. I shiver everytime i listen to this.
Thank you all, including Neil Young, for this masterpiece!
Was shown this song when i was 12... Come back to it at least twice a month for the last 13 years.
Been listening to this at least one a month for like 7 years. Superb
He was first one to call shotgun!
First time hearing grace potter and joe doing this just unbelievable grace and joe could not b any better wow and the trumpet player outstanding
How many times do I have to listen to this? This is extremely captivating the guitar, trumpet, and Grace blows me away.
What a great cover -- with a great guitarist, and damn, what a fine vocalist! Love you, Grace!
So much talent in this vid...unbelievable...most excellent cover...love Willy Waldman's contribution...who ever would have thought horns on this song would make it so special...and so excellent...
When he's trumpeting can't you just picture a Spanish galleon making its way to shore?
I love to read all the comments. It’s amazing that we have a way to enjoy a live performance after the fact and we all get to be a part of the same mind blowing experience across space and time. Everyone commenting has come back dozens of times.
Seeing the pure and absolute joy on Grace Potter's face in this video brings tears of happiness to my eyes!!! The music and musicians are spot on! That voice!! I wish her voice could trun into rain and wash over me every day!! Look how she lights up at the guitar and trumpet. She is having so much fun!!! It's alive and I love it!!!!❤
I keep replaying this fantastic piece of music. It fires my soul every time.
