I have a friend that looked so much like you in the thumbnail and that's how I got into watching your videos. 4 years later I love all the new shots you do with the drones, the underwater shots, and they way you'd explore places you've never been. Hey matt, just a tip about crayfish (crawdads), whichever you prefer. Dad and i used to catch them by the bucket load by our lake cabin. We'd mostly snorkel with nets, but a really good cheap trap we used was an ice cream bucket. You cut 2 to four 'X' shaped holes in the sides and bend them inward. The smaller flaps make them tougher and last longer, and the sharp points make it even less pleasant for them to get out. You can put string across the top and hang your bait and pinch the string under the lid-- the lid is handy for quick checks. The metal handle built in makes retrieval helpful, especially if you use fishing line. We used hot dogs but I'll try your bacon suggestion. Keep up the great vids and happy fishing!

I always love it when you go back to the mountains. The ocean stuff is fine, but fresh water is what I fish, so seeing you fly fishing and catching crawdads hits close to home. This was one of my favorite videos in a while. Please try to get back to the lakes and streams when you can.

Indicator on nymphs, no indicator on the drys. Matt was my first fishing channel...and still my favorite. His passion for fishing and the resource is contagious. We need to get him on barbless flies...our next challenge.

I’ve trout fished a bit, one thing I’ve found is that fish are aware of our presence when we cast shadows on the water and speak loud. Try being a bit more stealthy & silent it may help in not spoking the fish & your catch might be a full stringer next time out fishing streams! ⚔️🧂🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🧂⚔️

Man, that bass was a surprise. Gotta keep that rod tip down when they surface. I am learning that lesson the hard way this year. Every time I bring a fighting bass to surface, they show their true power and thrash the hook loose every time.

Getting out in nature and away from modern life is so important. I really think we will do studies in the next decades that show so much of the issues with first world mental illness, stress, health problems, getting along with one another, and just general lack of satisfaction in life is the result of smartphones, tech, and constantly being inside in artificial light. I say this as a total tech nerd, I work in IT, and love gadgets and what not. I'm far from a Luddite. It's still important to detach completely sometime and get sunlight. The emotional satisfaction of eating something you caught/killed/grew (or someone in your tribe did and you helped prepare) is so primal and extremely powerful as you noted when eating that first crawfish. Your videos will inspire others to do this. Good stuff.
