Took the good ole Whaly boat out for a dungeness crab and fishing trip. Had to find a plce to camp first before dropping the crab pots. This camping trip was a little early in the season, so I will plan to go back out when Halibut and Salmon are running!
Can we just take a moment and just appreciate how much effort this fisherman does in videography. We got to see a shot of him coming in on the sandy beach. Which means he already landed, set up his camera, went back out into the water so he could show us, his viewers, of him coming into the place were he planned to camp. This is pure entertainment dedication I cannot say how awesome this all is.
Truth. It can be tedious work. But looks great at the end of the day.
I think he just landed his drone for that shot.
@@joelling9958 wrong, you can see his tripod in the drone shot.
👏👏 Well said sir.
yep, ive noticed that too in pretty much majority of his videos. He takes his time to do that for us which is awesome of him.
No music, no over exaggeration, just you and the sounds of nature, truly wholesome content
"Another female don't need her" YEEEET!
hahaha didnt even think it was funny!
@@FishermansLife You are a funny dude! Great content brother. Hopefully we get more!
@@FishermansLife I got 99 problem but she ain't one
YEEEEEEEEEEEEET
Nobody: ..
Fisherman's life: somebody left their crab snare
Person that came back to their crab snare: damn I cant catch any luck with these crabs
"Dude, no friggin way..." So glad to see you again bud.
Senses something edible “dude imma go get it rn”
Literally 😊😂
DUDE. You are living a dream you'll remember for the rest of your days. Enjoy the times.
I know. Im surprised there's not more guys out there doing it. Awesome time.
Most of this video: "don't need her"
Too real.. too real...
LMAO this hits too hard
😂 👌
Thanks for being safe out there. Lost my dad a few years back when his boat flipped on a fishing trip and he wasn't wearing a life jacket which would've saved his life. You don't want your family to ever get that call my dude, it's a tough one to get. Keep havin' fun, teaching us and being safe. Cheers man.
That is so true. I've had to make that call, sorry you had to receive one!
Amen.... Safety first .. Expect the unexpected. Like a rogue line getting caught up in the prop. Or ramming into logs .
“Im just trying to get it up”. We hear you brother.
“Another female, don’t need her” *Chucked!!*
You just earned a subscriber
No need to be sorry about lack of uploads! We’re happy we get any!! I love your uploads!!
😂😂 Watching the red bouy glide on by. He was like “wassup?” As he cruised on past.
when he got hype over the herring, it was lit. had me cheering on his throws too
I love this dudes enthusiasm. When he sees the bait and then when he hears the frog. Wholesome as hell. Love you bro.
Drone shot of u crusin by with the tent in the boat was hilarious!
Gotdamn that shot had me rolling on the floor. JUST A MAN AND HIS TENT ON HIS BOAT
This man when he hears or sees literelly any animal "alright im gonna eat this boy"
Your drone shots really help put the landscape in perspective.
ive been following this amazing channel since about 200k and i love how he has never changed his attitude, tone or ways in general because of the amount of subs hes gained.
Dude. The production quality and videography of this vid is on another level. Nice job man.
I haven't gone fishing in a long time, not since I was really young, so I don't really know much about fishing, but I really love this guy's videos.
“I see em bussin over dur” 😂😂😂
You're hilarious..."Dude, maybe I can catch some frogs and eat some frogs." Lol Nice Matts
haha, I was just about to post that too! Had me laughing pretty hard.
Things like this are how I know he blows tree
Luckly he didnt here a dog barking or a cat..
What a rollercoaster of emotions near the end. I felt sad about the lost pod and like a miracle it pops up. 🍻👍😱😆
I am so proud of you! I was there when you started with the poke polin'-now you have over a million subs! God bless you my brother! keep up the good work.
I was like “oh cool, a seal.. Oh sh*t! His other pot!!” LOL
He just seems so happy with his life I love it he seems so calm and happy yk I want a life like that♡︎
have to be careful in tomales Bay there's a lot of eel grass that will wrap around your ropes and sink your buoys too
Loved this one! Really chill, beautiful surroundongs, pro editing and all the angles. great as usual
I don’t care what anyone says.... you’re the OG of fishing vloggers from The Bay. I appreciate the time and effort as well as the knowledge you put in the videos. 🍻
So good to see you out on the water again..l
I appreciate you being here sharing what you do.
Your knowledge is essential for the serious and dedicated fisherman.
This is like therapy for me. Relaxation!
Camping, fishing and crabbing...that’s a good trip right there 🙌🏻
11:28 the way he just casually throws them back into the water always gets me lol
You always keep it real 😍 from the all crab dinner morning after 'run' of shame, to the laundry detergent buoy.... You rock!!!
Man this was an amazing video, watched your channel for awhile and gotta say, you killed it! Catching crab right out the sea, camping and cooking. The fisherman’s life is the good life!
You got an amazing personality on camera, glad you found success doing something you love
17:20 You know Matts one of the guys when he just keeps the tent set up and rides the boat chillin like it's nothing 😂
The complexity added lots of interest for me; boating, fishing, camping, crabbing, hazards, safety, casting, preserved bait, net casting for herring, nice job! The frost and morning dew...I’m almost there!
If that small boat gets stuck on land from high tide you’d probably be able to get it back in the water with small logs underneath it to roll it
Hey Matts! Great video, as always. I've camped at that very spot. I often take a 15 foot aluminum boat out in that bay and have a pretty good anchoring technique. I drop a DANFORTH anchor (common man, get a good anchor. It will save your butt if you have a mechanical failure) out I then drive into the beach. Make sure the anchor is set properly - this is important given the amount of sea grass in that bay. I get another long rope and tie it to the stern or bow. I secure this line to something substantial at night (ideally a tree but another anchor works - just don't stub your tow on it at night). Keep this line slack. The hot tip is to disconnect the fuel line from your engine (not the tank) and put the motor in reverse at idle. I ghost ride the whip out off of the beach while paying out line - the engine runs out of gas in about 30 seconds. This way the boat is anchored out safely and you have it secured to a slack line on shore. This way, if your fishing departure is at low tide you can always pull in the boat as you walk up current on the beach and off you go. Keep the content coming. Love it!
Matts this was a fantastic video. It made me laugh a few times and I appreciate your genuine enthusiasm. I remember fishing that same area as a boy in my grandpas boat. Good memories and thank you for this.
To say I'm a novice fisherman would be an understatement but I love this channel. Especially the cooking, that I am good at lol
Nice video Matt. Tomales Bay is awesome but the mouth by Dillon Beach can be dangerous and the tide rips to much for a good crab catch.
love this channel so much. I leave it and then find myself coming back and rediscovering it all the time
Fisherman's life hearing a noise
"Yo, is that a bear? Imma get me bear meat for dinner" hahahaha
You are a genius with the drone footage! It's all really well done! You've got a real talent! Not to mention that fishing and boating and filming and narrating! I'm always very impressed by Your videos! Great entertainment and knowledgeable. I can't count the things I've learned from You! God bless You and Your Channel!
this man is living his best life lmao he looks so happy
A lot of people in BC don't use fish because it attracts seals so well, that might be what is moving your traps and getting them stuck! Thank you for the best fishing videos, much love
26:52 when I tell you I was screaming "LOOK BEHIND YOU ITS RIGHT BEHIND YOU!". I was sooo happy when he noticed it lol
That part was funny, it just snuck up on him lol
I use a "running line“ anchor system for my boat. It goes: Anchor, chain, big stainless ring, long loop of rope (maybe 120ft).
Then you set the achor when you come into the beach, tie the boat on to the loop of rope and then pull it out using the other side of the loop.
Then just pin the rope at the beach.
There are videos on it
I get so excited when u post, most relaxing videos
Prob my new favorite video. These adventure style vids where you go out and try something new are the best. Informative, but also a good watch. Thanks man!
Homeboy making a run with a pitched tent on deck lol!
This is the best crabbing, outdoor, camping, whatever video man. The best!
"dude they're right there, they're right there,,,"
*Sniff*
"oh ma god that crab smells really good"
Crabbing videos are my fav. They’re most satisfying 😇
Once I get out of the military I want to do something like this for a month or two
When ever i feel like going fishing, but then I remember I have zero experience or knowledge I like to watch this channel and fish through these videos. Not the same satisfaction but man do I enjoy these.
Long time no see.... glad you back, you're one of.my favorites.
hahaha
Matt, I'm not sure if a lot of people realize your cinematography skills. But I can tell that you put a lot of thought and work into your shots and view perspective. This adds a tremendous value to all your content overall, making them more educational and enjoyable to watch, and definitely one of the reasons I'm a solid prescriber. I appreciate the hard work and excellent commentary on all your videos, my friend.👍
I like the way you toosed em crab back in the water..😂😂
A tip for anchoring for camping. Learn from my mistake:
If there’s a storm or a bunch of chop caused from wind, your boat could fill with water if you’re beached with the bow pointing towards land because the rear sits lower. Have a anchor attached to the bow, and back in towards land dropping the anchor slow until I catches. Have two stern lines attached to each corner of the boat and tie those down on land 45° off the starboard and port stern. That way your boat won’t rotate. Worst thing that’s happened to me is finding a ton of water in the boat in the morning. Hope this helps!
Like what’s happening at 17:14 of the video all night could cause a ton of water to be in your boat. Backing in, and raising the motor when youre backed in!
Hope to see you out there this year. I'm there a few times a month. Be cautious on that bar crossing. The swell will break across it, people have died out there.
I can't believe it's almost 3 years of me watching this channel. Keep up the good work man! 👏
Man quality is skyrocketing🚀
Enjoy watching these videos when I’m on break or when I’m eating my food
"All that... It's current..."
Why yes, that is an accurate statement. 😆 Idk why but that made me laugh
It's great to see you back. What a beautiful location. Thank you for sharing this.
HEY, Thanks for all your cool vids. 👍
We are learning from Matts mistakes! You always have unique adventures! Enjoyed it!
I actually felt myself get a little anxious, when I saw you walk away from an UNSECURED BOAT.
My wife bought me two Fisherman's Life hats for Valentines! I absolutely love them! Keep it up man!
I would love to see some live streams going for your camping adventures. Just a thought.
agreed but where he was has no service

I'm over here eating hot pockets while my dude is eating crabs. FML, I need a new profession haha.
I literally drooled just now looking at those crabs. I like crab.
Damn that was a Charles Barkley guarantee on the "tomorrow morning" herring!!
hahahaha shoot...they deceived me!
Thanks for doing something different. Gives fishing a new outlook.
I love watching him yeet the crabs back into the ocean. "Don't need her" YEET.
Cringe
The end was golden. It totally snuck up on you
"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose." Got lucky getting them pots back lol.
Beautiful fish peacefully jumping near the surface? I could eat those. The sounds of frogs peacefully croaking in the background? Sounds tasty. Man I love this channel lmao.
Dude he started to smoke something after getting those crab
dude that's a frog... ribbit ribbit ribbit
Bro I’m glad I wasn’t the only one I see the eyes😂
Another great video Matt. Here's a couple of technical thoughts. Crabs don't like a fast current. They especially don't like a differential between high and low tides being so high. The movement of water causes them to hunker down, usually burying themselves in the sand or muddy bottom. I bet if you went back to the same spot when the tide differentials are narrow, you'd have a lot more crab in your pots. The sketchy water you encountered at the mouth of the ocean was a change of tide going up against the incoming swell. Anyone who has fished the mouth of the Columbia River knows the feeling of being in a boing pot of water. It's a freaky feeling. Thank you for another fun video. Keep 'em coming!
Nipply!! 🏕❄️
what a genuine man you are, feel proud my man
"Female, dont need her, nother female, don't need her". The life and times of A Fisherman's Life
Keeping crabs alive overnight: They will actually die faster in a bucket of stagnant water because of the limited supply of oxegen. What I do for blue crabs on the east coast is just throwing some damp seaweed on top and to keep them in the shade.
Exactly. Far better to just throw them on top of ice and make them sleep til your ready to cook.
@hexroy is that all you do? I bring blues home keep em in a cooler with a damp towel and ice packs but i still end up with some dead in the morning (some with limbs removed by other crabs)
What can i do to keep them alive better??
@@xxoczukxx If the cooler stays ice cold, the ones that do die wouldn't have been dead long and they won't degrade in quality. I wouldn't do it for long stints, but overnight is fine.
The filming and video production is out of this world, so entertaining!
YO! glad the video turned out good! Crazy how you found those pots at the end.
Nice to see my Porta Bote making a guest appearance in the distance at 1:53
It was a pleasure seeing you out on the water!
Nice meeting you out there too! Still scared me seeing you way out there in the portaboat! Besafe brotha!
I know it wasn't easy getting to living your best life, but I'm happy you did.
28:27 that’s what he said lmao 😂 all I’m trying to do is get it up hahahaha
I love the crab-cam, and I appreciate your respect for fishing regulations. Great video, thanks!
Would love to see you do some freshwater fishing even at stocked lakes/ponds! Especially if you’re getting skunked from the ocean shore
So hyped to hear that frog. That was great. Win, lose or draw, I still enjoy your adventures. Let’s Gooo !
Firstly, we accept your apology for not posting more videos :). And Secondly, everything you see or hear, your first thought is to eat it, herring and frogs haha. Keep it up :)
Thrilling videography. Really appreciate your work, your skills, your joy and gratitude. Keep it up.
Man about time bro lol
Did you really say “ribbit ribbit ribbit” tho? Lmao!!
Idk about anybody else but I want to see him go steelhead fishing, btw epic video always love ur uploads.
