    Recently retired warden here
    California penal code 25640 describes the exemption to the prohibition of concealed carry of a firearm for licensed hunters and anglers.
    So while fishing, concealed carry by a licensed angler is legal. I always recommend an angler print a copy of that exemption and keep it with them because I have found many deputies/police/CHP are not aware of that exemption.
    Additionally, while on federal land avoid carrying into any structure of any kind.

  • @jspub3597
    @jspub3597 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I use the Hard Cast Flat Nose rounds in Idaho while in the woods; Hollow points may work on a bear without a fat layer (such as right out of their den in the Spring) but otherwise the hollow point will splatter the fat layer and may not not penetrate into anything vital... and it really aggravates the bear! I really like the copper Lehigh projectile that is loaded by Underwood. You have the best cinematography of any TH-cam sports channel... your layout and angles with your drone are the best. California Penal Code, Section 12025, prohibits carrying concealed firearms in California, but Section 12027 provides an exemption. (a) A person is not prohibited by this section from carrying a concealed firearm on or about his or her person while hunting or fishing. (b) This section does not apply to: (1) a person who is licensed to hunt or fish under the provisions of Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 11362) of Division 3 of Title 2 of the Government Code; or (2) an employee of a law enforcement agency, as defined in subdivision (a), who carries a firearm while engaged in the performance of official duties while on duty or while off duty as an officer of such agency.

    Man when I was a kid and I mean 9 years old, I took Hunters Safety school and when I was 10 I got my Hunting License from California Fish And Game. I used to carry a riffle or shotgun almost everywhere I hiked. That was 43 years ago. Even my buddy from school did the same thing and we would go fishing and hunting all the time together. So many rules now. Now the only rule I prescribe to now is "Don't break into my house". It won't go well. I lived in California then... I live in Florida now. .. I can legally wax somebody just for trespassing on my property. Of course that depends on a few things. Are they armed? Do they have criminal records? Did they try to steal things? Did they try to break into my house? Guy trying to break in my front door... I just shoot right through the door and call 911. Let the cops file the report. FYI, when carrying, make sure you load your mag with copper or lead free rounds. When you carry, especially when in the forest, you're subjecting yourself to hunting regulation. Carrying copper or lead free ammo will save you from a headache with legality issues.

    The blood line you reference is actually the kidney of the fish. I've spent over 40 years romping through forest and wilderness areas in the West and have never felt the need to carry a firearm for safety. All of the bears I have encountered have tucked tail as soon as they realize you are there and the only lion I've seen is when it crossed the road in front of me. I'll carry bear spray in some areas like in Grizzly country. I only time I carry a gun in the woods is when I hunt.

  • @BautistaVids

    Interesting. I made similar calls in 2022 and did OC (Open Carry) during my fishing trips while camping this year. You can CCW if you have a permit. Also, according to my research, you can OC even when hiking (even when not hunting or fishing or traveling to/from those activities). But remember, Nat'l Forests are not the same as Nat'l Parks - in which the latter are very restrictive in California in which case CCW is the only option. You can't even have pepper spray, bb guns, paintball guns, etc in Yo/SeKi (Yosemite/Sequioa & Kings Canyon) "Parks" in contrast with "Forests". Another interesting point and discussion that can be found (if you search) is the idea of 9mm for defense against a real bear attack (I say real because it would be too easy for someone to mistake a bluff charge (common with black bears) with anything else to shoot it unjustifiably. At the same time, I've never been in that situation to judge anyone too harshly). Anyway, while 9mm self-defense hollow point is commonly viewed as non-effective against a bear, a 9mm FMJ may be a different story...

    I always have an extra mag. I everyday carry a little 9mm Sig 365 with an extended mag for my pinky. I have a back up mag that's just a stock flush magazine. Everytime I completely breakdown and clean my firearm I breakdown and clean my magazines as well. I was in the military and had to shoot alot in warzones. In the United Staates in all my years of carrying I've never had to even reach for my firearm. A little luck and alot of training. Just thought I'd share

    Wild trout tastes better than farm raised trout. I've caught wild trout in Yosemite and Strawberry. Awesome catch and cook on the trout. I've tried using the crickets🦗 when I was fishing in Lake Camanche and the trouts were not biting it either. Nightcrawlers will guarantee a fish bite. Awesome post! 🤙🏽

    Ok, love the videos Matt, and what a location! But as someone who has spent a great deal of time in the outdoors in true wilderness (bush Alaska). I am a little disturbed by how much emphasis urban dwellers place on firearms when venturing into the wild. Those things will only keep you safe if 1) you are trained and competent with the weapon and 2) you can keep your cool when encountering sudden danger. Almost everything in the wild including bears and mountain lions will want to avoid humans so take your gun but don't be nervous up there. Also, get someone to teach you motocross skills such as how to navigate your bike safely downhill in rough terrain. Believe it or not, the Front brake is the most important! Gloves and good footwear as well as a helmet will protect you in a crash. You can take that stuff off while you're fishing. That said, best of luck on your adventures.
