      I went ahead and ordered a 2 pack based on your other video with the VW with the noisy idle. I have a 2010 Corolla that I figured I would run the engine cleaner through because I was about to change the oil anyway. It definitely found some dirt because the oil was much darker in the drain pan than it was on the dipstick so I would say it does it's job. Bonus is that it actually smells like castille soap and not some nasty chemical haha. My garage actually smells better at the moment because of it oddly enough. I ran the fuel cleaner through my Challenger just for good measure which has really low miles anyway so why not give it some extra TLC. Keep up the good work Scotty, you rock!

      @@estar12 I solved the spider problem by cleaning the entire area all around the tank opening, and replacing the old cap with a new OEM gas cap. I also am very careful not to spill gas when I remove the nozzle, wiping up any drops. I keep the inside of the fuel filler door as well as the area surrounding the cap clean... I haven't seen a spider in a few years. Thank God Joro spiders are not attracted to gasoline.

    Hey Scotty! I treated my 2007 Toyota 5.7L V8 with 505CRO oil system cleaner this morning. The oil in the engine had about 1,000 miles on it and looked like Honey before I added the cleaner. The oil coming out was as black as coal when I changed it and the filter 20 minutes later, the engine has 301,000 miles on it and it idles much quieter after the cleaning... my initial impression of this product is highly favorable. That 2az also came from the factory with incorrect (too small/too few) oil return holes in the pistons, which makes the oil rings gum up faster because the oil doesn't evacuate fast enough. My buddy and I pulled the pistons in my wife's RAV4 and milled the holes out to about double the original size, and put new rings on. It went from a qt every 4-500 miles to a qt every 4-5000 miles... It was a ton of work though lol. They had a recall on them good up to 10 years and 150000 miles if it was burning a qt per 1200 miles, but ours wasn't at that time... At 240,000 miles though, it had gotten rediculous

It cost me about $100 that was a new head gasket, head bolts, rings and some rtv for the oil pan etc, so that's a pretty great value honestly, assuming you have the ability to tear everything else down; way cheaper than buying a drill press/mill lol. I'm just lucky to have friends with expensive hobbies haha

    I have only the training my dad (a weekend mechanic) taught me 40 years ago and changing the timing belt on my wifes V6 Honda Odyssey was not difficult and I did not need special tools. The trick is the tensioner will un-align the cams by 1 tooth so if you start off with the cams off by 1 tooth in the other direction they will be aligned when you apply tension.

  • @ej2796

    It sounds more like the vvti actuator I had a vibe(matrix) with the same cold start rattle. It sounds bad, but if you see the how the locking pin system that makes the noise works...you realize it's not that urgent a problem. It can run with that noise for years with no issues.

    • @repentantsinner665
      @repentantsinner665 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm . My 03 Corolla just started making a rattle when I start it on a cold start , I'm wondering if it's the vvt actuator too or if it's the timing chain tensioner, it rattles for MAYBE 1 second and then gone, but if I turn the key without starting it fully a few times before starting on cold start it won't rattle at all ...

    • @ej2796
      @ej2796 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Corolla 1.8 does that, but it's the starter bendix. If I turn the key for a second before cranking it up it wont make the nasty grinding noise. But if I forget to turn the key for a moment first, it will always make the noise. Honestly tho, turning the key wont affect the vvti phaser noise unless u have a electric oil primer/pump(wich u dont unless u installed it yourself). I used to think turning the key first helped with my vibes vvti rattle sometimes...but that was just my imagination.
      If it sounds more like a rod knocking for a second, it's the probably the cam phaser. It might sound really bad, but its not a big deal tho it can run that way for a long long time.

    Clean oil is an engine's best friend. Mainly, I think of the dirt in the oil causing excess friction with bearings and cylinder walls, but Scotty raised my awareness about the piston rings and how dirty oil can cause them to stick in the piston grooves, not allowing them to spring outward against the cylinder walls.
    Personally, I swear by the 3,000 mile oil change -- and always will. A 2003 Corolla with 255,000 miles that burns very little oil between changes and which has a relatively smooth idle, considering its age and mileage, are sufficient proof that frequently changing the oil works. Same story with our 2005 Matrix that has 185,000 miles on it and burns little oil, between changes. too. Both still have plenty of power and zero smoke from the exhaust.
    Go, Scotty!!!

    I buy late 90s Camryz for work cars. I have a 98 now, and a 97 for parts in the garage. I was burning half quart or better per oil change. Switched to Castrol Edge, and I kid you not, my oil has been perfect on the mark since. Think im sticking with this oil for good in my Camry, and may put it in my wife's vehicle next oil change. My truck is a Triton, so I'm sticking with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, due to its flow ability and the poor design of the Triton inner motor and all its tight spaces and small nooks and crannies the oil must reach.

    I've changed the CCT on my Honda CBR like 5 times since 2005, 2 years ago I purchased a Manual CCT, haven't had to touch it since. I have also seen many hydraulic CCT's go bad on many vehicles. Many Race vehicles use a Manual CCT as well they are much more reliable especially at High RPM's. Hydraulic CCT's not working like they should could cause the timing chain to jump a tooth on the sprocket cause catastrophic engine failure at higher RPM

Should this help? Already had the chain and tensioner checked. VW came out with a updated chain and tensioner after the 2012 model year do to the failures they had with the earlier ones. It makes that rattle once in a while. I change the oil ever 5k miles, use OEM oil filters, ect.

    Scotty, if this is a 1ZZ FE motor than it could have to do with a service bulletin having to do with a flaw in the design of oil flow through the piston into the oil control ring. My '02 Corolla was one with that issue. Some fix it themselves by taking the Pistons out and drill two more oil holes and filing a larger step on the end of the oil control rings. I just used Mobil 1 Full synthetic High mileage because it was mentioned in Corolla forums to do a good job at removing sludge. I later developed a external leak on my accessory drive side of the motor because how well it cleans the engine. So just be prepared. Especially if you have a high mileage motor like mine. But for a short time it did work and was noticeable that I no longer had to put a Qt of oil in about every 2 fill ups.

    There's a similar problem with Accords (2.4 K24Z2 K24Z3 2008-2012), CR-Vs (2.4L L4 DOHC K24Z7 2010-2014) and 2012-15 Crosstours having that same 2.4L DOHC. The VTC actuator clanks but goes away once the engine is warm and the oil pressure increases. Replacing the VTC actuator actually seems not to eliminate the problem over the long term. Obviously this represents a massive share of older cars still on the road that have sterling reputations for high reliability. Numerous customers tried to make claims at dealerships for years and dealers bilked customers for fraudulent repairs that only appeared to the naive customer to address the clanking. Other dealers just sent the customers away without making a claim under the warranty. And yet others had to pay for the repairs which could be upwards of $2200. (In my own case I had a certified CR-V; one dealer said it was nothing but a nuisiance; another dealer tried to sell me a replacement oil pan and something else I can't recall.) Honda took years but finally released a service bulletin about replacing the VTC actuator just long enough after many drivers were out of warranty. Some folks have said to just leave it, that there are plenty of Hondas with these engines still on the road without the repair that have clocked hundreds of thousands of miles. There was a class action lawsuit over the issue that Honda lost. Unfortunately the suit did not cover all the cars manufactured with that part. I'm no longer a CR-V owner but I'm still curious about it.
