I built my first watch from a NH36 and random eBay parts around a month ago and already have more parts in flight to build a couple more. Eventually want to make some custom dials, there's a lot of fun crossover opportunities with the wood/metal/resin hobby stuff I've done for years, and a wearable product is a bonus.
I made one too. Same process as yourslf. Starting with ordering the NH36 movement. I opted for a stainless steel diver's watch syle case with rotating bezel, matt black dial with black calendar wheel and luminous orange dial markings with matching lumed orange hands. It looked amazing. I proudly showed it off for the first time in the pub. I took it off to hand it to someone who wanted a closer look. The bezel came off while he rotated it and he just looked at me in horror before bursting out laughing. Anyway... I ordered another case but the stem was slightly too short to fit the new case. Another stem ordered for £25 (the total price of the home-made watch was becoming a bit expensive) I filed the new stem too short because the date wheel was acting weird. It sits in a small box waiting for a new stem 2 years later.
Not sure if others feel similarly, but I find the lack of any sound over the build really weird. If you were to impose the audio from the first section over top the latter part, with maybe a note or two about what you were doing at any given time (not a lot, just a sentence or two between periods of silence) and just skipped the section at the top, you'd have a really cool video. I say this acknowledging that you could have specific reasons for not just doing a voiceover.
@@SillyVintageWatchesI appreciate that you did this by buying the parts. The Seiko logo on the dial was hidden in the pictures and description because some buyers want this, but it is trademark infringement so they hide this. Next time maybe it would help to ask privately in a message if the dial is "sterile"
Great little build. you will have a better time setting the crown if you use a par of calipers. you almost had it with the blue marks, but you can take the guess work out with a little measurement ;)
I just swapped out an NH35 for an NH34 in a diver watch. Everything fit perfectly. I was even able to use the original stem. Really like the GMT addition. I'm a spaceflight fan so having GMT is actually useful. I did have to ream out the dial hole but that was it.
Please may I know which diver watch is it that you modded. I really like the turtle case but they do not have the GMT variant. Do you know if I could just straight swap the 4R36 for the 4R34(NH34)? Reaming the dial and adding an extra hand of course.
@ It was a diver watch I built from parts in Ali Express. Most cases should work with one caveat. The GMT NH34 movement is a touch taller than the standard NH35. Diver watches tend to be a bit deeper than some other styles so should not be an issue.
i just ordered all the parts for my first watch, nh38 with a green open heart dial inside of a rolex presidential watch case, im really looking forward to building it
Nice work, I also really like it aesthetically, only two things I don't understand, the first why pay the cost of just the GMT hand as much as the cost of a complete kit of 4 pieces, in my opinion it was not a convenient choice to take two with separate hands, the second one I don't like the way you use to cut the excess part of the crown stem, you have to use a caliper it's much easier to measure from the edge of the case to the edge of the crown, considering that the part that screws is included in this space. for the rest nothing to complain about, excellent work.
this is fantastic and inspiring! so question on these DIY watch builds with automatic movement. When the movement stops working...do you just replace it? My hesitation with any automatic movement is that over time service costs far outpace the value of the watch itself...
Economically, it absolutely would make sense to just replace the movement with a new one since they are just like $45. Even a watchmaker or Seiko themselves is very likely to just replace them. But it really depends on the movement you have. If you build a DIY Omega, sure, it makes sense to service the movement. If we are talking strictly about DIY watches here, just buy 1 or 2 movements as spares. You are probably set up for the future, with a fraction of the cost you otherwise would accumulate in services.
Thanks. I'm about to do my first custom build. The NH34 I bought came with a small cupped washer. Is that supposed to go between the dial and the movement? Was wondering why you didn't have that washer and whether it's necessary?
Thank You! Unfortunately, I don't really know any watches in that price range, let's say, up to $600 that have that feature. The closest I can think of is the Seiko SSK023K1

I'm a new watch maker. Novice at best. Could you list where you resourced the parts?
Very nice and super nice video and super nice how you did the video thanks …. Now search for parts like them all the best and super cool as did with sound and none great😮
@sillyvintagewatches 16:27 I purchased a HruodlanD second hand with the nh34 and as I unscrew the crown it appears to be in the date/gmt setting mode so the date changes ccw and the gmt hour in the cw direction… once the spring loaded crown pops out of the treads it is in the correct neutral position to wind. When I press the crown in to screw it doesn’t show that problem. Only as I unscrew it. Would I need to shorten the stem or lengthen it?
Saw your video and i have a question - if i may. Sadly, I find myself only liking watches that are very expensive. But I don't care about the name, so my question is : Is it possible to have someone (not me!) make a watch from scratch by buying the parts to make my dream watch? Is this possible?
I have the same problem with this dial, dozens of sellers offering the same all with the Seiko logo. if anyone had found a dial with the 24hrs in the outer edge, please link me 🙏
Appreciate the video, but it's not very informative. The sizing of the stem is easily the hardest part of the assembly and there was no input on the proper way of conduct. Furthermore, there were no part links in the video description for someone who would partake in the assembly process.
HERE IS MY REVIEW OF THE SEIKO NH35: th-cam.com/video/nlzB7Y3_O9k/w-d-xo.html
Great build! Lovely taste in selecting the parts.
Thank you! Cheers!

@silly Vintage Watches. Do you mind providing links to the case and dial at a minimum, or at lease which seller you sourced them from?
Beautiful build and awesome production as always. The build give me real "War Correspondent" vibes
When your voiceover dropped out I thought I was having audio issues on my laptop 🤣🤣
fortunately I've seen your comment before the video

Good point, thank you for your perspective!

I see no problems there.

Good call!
put links where you found all the parts, please 😊
Thanks for showing the basics of making a watch. Perhaps tips for good measurements: dial, stem and so on. 😊
Happy New Year ✨️ thanks for this upload!

Great build! I really love the parts you chose, the end design is superb. Can you add a link to all the parts in the video description?
I love the build! Where did you get that dial?

Hi there, nice vieeo and build. Where did you get the dial? Cheers jan
Did I miss the links to the parts somehow? I can find the movement, but case and dial?
Hi can you tell me where I can find the Dial? Cheers

Just assembled mine thank you 💪
Could you link the parts for this custom watch?

Isn't there a small spacer washer to be assembled under the dial ?
I love the military style aspect of this gmt. I feel inspired! How does the lume on that dial compare to lumibright or c3?
Just curious what the value of the watch it when built ?
Very nice
I love the 24 hours around the outer ring.
Are there any Seikos or other watches you are aware of that have that?
I haven’t seen any.

Hola, podrías decir dónde compraste? Enlaces? Gracias
Can you please send link for the parts thanks
Great build! Is it possible to swap 7S26 for a NH34?
Should generaly be possible. The stacked hight of the hands could be a problem when the space between dial and crystal is to small.
Where did you get the dial
Why don’t you keep 2 dial feets to fix the dial to the caliber?
Very nice and super nice video and super nice how you did the video thanks …. Now search for parts like them all the best and super cool as did with sound and none great😮

does skx hands work on the nh34?
Great video, thanks.
Grazie! Saluti dall'italia

how build watch for woman?

👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️🙏
Am I deaf?
That 'Feiko' dial is awful. My idea for a future video is to change it for either a sterile dial or a real Seiko dial
I consider myself lucky to learn watchmaking on some other places... You have a serious problems with your knowledge...
Hello, is there any way I could get a link to the dial and case? Would be much appreciated
