@@caligoola just practice endlessly on cheap watches… after a couple months or whenever your able to consistently get those results you’ll be fine. I wouldn’t touch my watches either unless they needed service but never ever just to get practice. My first tip is to make sure you have all of the right tools, go to a watchmaker and see all of the stuff they have to give you some good ideas.

this is actually sucha fantastic idea. Tip for lubricating gaskets (o-rings): most lubricants come with a bit of foam on the lid too, and if you put the gasket in and the lid back on, you can twist the lid so it applies an even coating of lubricant onto the gasket that's not too thick. I do hope you get into building more watches and hopefully repairing them.

I’ve built and modified a few watches now. For assembling the hands, I found a trick that helped me greatly. I use some rodico to hold the hands and align them, then I can press the hands on. For the seconds hand, I get right down to eye level with the movement where I can see the seconds pinion, then pressing it on becomes much easier.

  • @zen.orizawa
    @zen.orizawa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

When you are pushing the movement rod back in the watch after the re assembly press the rod release while putting the rod back it will make the assembly easy or els it might mess the movement for sure ,I believe it have done a number in this movement already as I see. Such a nice a clean build, watch making is so relaxing and you can make a beautiful unique timepiece in the end. Just a little tip when putting the hands on, when you make your date wheel tick over to 12am i wouldn't push the key less works back in, because the time keeps ticking and when you set your hands to 12 it may be 10 minutes past 12 or however long it took you to put your hands on, happy watch making and very impressive time piece 😊

The only bit of advice I would give you is to test rotate each hand when you put them in. The points can sometimes obstruct the hands and you may need to bend them slightly. @@MarcusCreates kind of. Worked in a prestige jewellers for many years. We had an old watchmaker in the shop. He was ridiculously clever. He escaped Yugoslavia during WW2 and learned watchmaking when he came to the UK. I would often be searching around on the floor for something so tiny… the old dustpan and brush and a strong magnet was a life saver lol. Titanium tweezers too. He had a lathe so small he could hand make parts- like the stems for the crown to fit onto. Bergeon watch tools were his favourite. I learned so much from him, not how to hand make parts though unfortunately 😂😂
This is a great video, and a really cool idea. I used to have a Rolex like yours too. Stupidly sold it some years ago 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ I’ll hopefully have one again one day. 👍🏻

Don't stick your finger in the gasket lube. Don't place the new gasket on the table. Even if it hasn't been lubed yet tiny particles will contaminate the gasket. Someone already mentioned to use threadlocker on the crown. I'd use blue. I'd also suggest you get Rodico for cleaning specks of dust off the dial, crystal and movement. A blower doesn't necessarily remove particles.

Missing chapter ring. Missing movement spacer to stop the face touching the date wheel. Missing the "fixing" of the face to the movement (normally levers or screws to hold it together) Missing the movement fixings in the rear to secure it in the case. Leave the stem pulled to the "out" position when placing on the hands as the watch is still ticking otherwise. Use rodico to remove specs from face/glass. Use lock-tite on the crown and file down the stem after cutting. Do all that and you've got yourself a fine watch.

Great video, very on topic for me since, 1. My EDC is also a Submariner, 2. I am just now "designing" my own GMT by adding to a shoppingcart at AliExpress.
And since you literary ask for it, I gonna offer you the thought I got about your execution.
You call the case a "classic Seiko case", from my POV that is the classic Submariner case, the Classic Seikos has the Crown at 4 o'clock and the screwdown crown has a distinctly other look. To your point the caseback is Seiko style, the Sub as you know is very plain.
You did a really nice job finding the date shift by turning the crown wheel really slow until date flipped over but after that you push in the crown with that starting the watch and with that distorting the great job done making the minute hand move while setting up hourhand.
But othervise, really loved the video! Keep up the good work, I just started to follow your channel!

Well done all you need now is a Jewelers Eye Loupe Loop Magnifier Monocular makes them small things easy to see when installing hands. Also using a little rodico to hold the hands. It is a brilliant cleaner. Did not see how you used the Oring lube. Bit there should be a soft material in the lid you drop the ring in put the lid on and tighten it then you have an even amount all over the ring. some good plastic pointed tweezers come in very handy. Next time you may like to get a watch dial with no name on it. You can get the letters to put your own name on it or you can buy with the name already on it. So well done keep it up. To be honest, I still don't have an opinion whether buying a Mod watch that doesn't officially exist with a label in it is a counterfeit or not, so I wondered that if I could assemble a watch myself that would be basically skipping this moral dilemma. Interested to see if anyone actually used this video as a guide? I think it would be fun to do this as a bonding project with my 3 brothers-in-law over the 4th of July weekend. It would have to be simple enough that we could kind of bulk order some parts and all put it together, together.
Also, great channel. Been following for a few months and I’ve already made purchases based on recommendations

I wish to do the same , I bought a Breitling in Chinatown in 2008 it was amazing ,open heart the case was 44 mm and the dial was brushed stainless steel as the whole watch ,too bad I have only a bad picture can't find one similar to mine .

My mom passed away and I found a Rolex Datejust 36 in her things, which naturally went to me. The band has some flaws and I suspect it's a high-quality fake, but still need to have it looked at by a pro.
I'd hoped to sell it, but if I can't I'll fix it up and wear it... although this one is intended for ladies I love the diamonds, colors, et cetera. It's like it was designed for me with a smaller wristband.
Trying a silicone band off Amazon Vine (20mm) to see if that will work but could very well run into sizing issues, went with 20mm based on data I found. I just can't afford to drop a lot of money on this sort of thing right now... was hoping it was real so I could get out of debt faster. Still may be, hard to tell. If it's fake, it's a good fake.

Having built several watches, I would recommend buying a lume kit and adding aftermarket lume. The. Chinese dials and hands typically have terrible lume. For $25 you can buy a kit that will out perform Seiko dive watches and compete with some of the best lume watches.
