@@caligoola just practice endlessly on cheap watches… after a couple months or whenever your able to consistently get those results you’ll be fine. I wouldn’t touch my watches either unless they needed service but never ever just to get practice. My first tip is to make sure you have all of the right tools, go to a watchmaker and see all of the stuff they have to give you some good ideas.

this is actually sucha fantastic idea. Tip for lubricating gaskets (o-rings): most lubricants come with a bit of foam on the lid too, and if you put the gasket in and the lid back on, you can twist the lid so it applies an even coating of lubricant onto the gasket that's not too thick. I do hope you get into building more watches and hopefully repairing them.

Such a nice a clean build, watch making is so relaxing and you can make a beautiful unique timepiece in the end. Just a little tip when putting the hands on, when you make your date wheel tick over to 12am i wouldn't push the key less works back in, because the time keeps ticking and when you set your hands to 12 it may be 10 minutes past 12 or however long it took you to put your hands on, happy watch making and very impressive time piece 😊

I’ve built and modified a few watches now. For assembling the hands, I found a trick that helped me greatly. I use some rodico to hold the hands and align them, then I can press the hands on. For the seconds hand, I get right down to eye level with the movement where I can see the seconds pinion, then pressing it on becomes much easier.

@@MarcusCreates kind of. Worked in a prestige jewellers for many years. We had an old watchmaker in the shop. He was ridiculously clever. He escaped Yugoslavia during WW2 and learned watchmaking when he came to the UK. I would often be searching around on the floor for something so tiny… the old dustpan and brush and a strong magnet was a life saver lol. Titanium tweezers too. He had a lathe so small he could hand make parts- like the stems for the crown to fit onto. Bergeon watch tools were his favourite. I learned so much from him, not how to hand make parts though unfortunately 😂😂

Great video, very on topic for me since, 1. My EDC is also a Submariner, 2. I am just now "designing" my own GMT by adding to a shoppingcart at AliExpress.
And since you literary ask for it, I gonna offer you the thought I got about your execution.
You call the case a "classic Seiko case", from my POV that is the classic Submariner case, the Classic Seikos has the Crown at 4 o'clock and the screwdown crown has a distinctly other look. To your point the caseback is Seiko style, the Sub as you know is very plain.
You did a really nice job finding the date shift by turning the crown wheel really slow until date flipped over but after that you push in the crown with that starting the watch and with that distorting the great job done making the minute hand move while setting up hourhand.
But othervise, really loved the video! Keep up the good work, I just started to follow your channel!

Hello dear watch mod enthusiasts in the comments! I am very interested in building a watch myself too, but I have a couple questions I would appreciate finding answers to:
    1. Is there any other case and bracelet that would not look mainstream/homage (not something you look at and think "Seiko", "Rolex", etc) for the NH35 movement? Or at least something less recognizable?
    2. Is there any good dial for this particular movement that would feature an open-heart design/somewhat hollowed-out (and would it look right on this one if so)?

Don't stick your finger in the gasket lube. Don't place the new gasket on the table. Even if it hasn't been lubed yet tiny particles will contaminate the gasket. Someone already mentioned to use threadlocker on the crown. I'd use blue. I'd also suggest you get Rodico for cleaning specks of dust off the dial, crystal and movement. A blower doesn't necessarily remove particles.

Well done all you need now is a Jewelers Eye Loupe Loop Magnifier Monocular makes them small things easy to see when installing hands. Also using a little rodico to hold the hands. It is a brilliant cleaner. Did not see how you used the Oring lube. Bit there should be a soft material in the lid you drop the ring in put the lid on and tighten it then you have an even amount all over the ring. some good plastic pointed tweezers come in very handy. Next time you may like to get a watch dial with no name on it. You can get the letters to put your own name on it or you can buy with the name already on it. So well done keep it up. But let's be honest here People out there. The video is 18: 06 minutes long. But people it is not that short of a job.

I was a full-time student. I just graduated and I’m looking to get into grad school so I don’t have much funds. So I just might try this out and hopefully get it right. I would really like a nice watch, but I just can’t afford it right now. But this might be possible. Thanks for the helpful video.

Another tip! You can use rubbing alcohol and it’ll stop hand sweat for about 10min or so and you can keep your hands clean without the finger condoms.

absolutely inspiring I think this is my next hobby! so question on these DIY watch builds with automatic movement. When the movement stops working...do you just replace it? My hesitation with any automatic movement is that over time service costs far outpace the value of the watch itself...
