    What I love abouy Emmy, is that she is sooo open to bizzare food. She's not disgusted, appalled or judgemental, she just tries it and states her honest opinion. Honestly the most innocent and realist youtuber out, and so incredibly underrated.

      What is "bizzare" to some is "normal" for others. It's all relative. Always good to learn and be open to other cultures.

    Emmy, you might be interested to know that, after a friend of mine and I decided we wanted to try cricket tacos at a local Mexican restaurant, I checked with a nutritionist acquaintance for any information she had on crickets. As an offhand comment, I happened to mention that my friend is allergic to shellfish.
    As it turns out, if you have an allergy to shellfish, you should NOT try eating insects.
    I just thought I would mention that here, in case any of your other viewers were considering giving bugs a try. :)

      KaaSerpent wow. Who would have thought!

    • @SydneyGavriel
      @SydneyGavriel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      KaaSerpent That's because they *are* insects. Shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. are all technically insects because they have an exoskeleton. Anything with just an exoskeleton is technically an insect. Humans have an endoskeleton, tortoises have both.

    I almost spit my coffee out when I saw that shrimp snack because of the name okusno. 'OKUSNO' is actually Slovenian word that means 'tasty' and after googling it I realised it was not a coincidence - the founder actually used a slovenian word on purpose 😊. So I definitely learned something new today! 😁

      How about this year eating bugs prepared in a different way than just dried like previously (which were predominantly hard with not much flavour)? Using insects and arachnids in traditional recipes (how they're usually prepared) and modern recipes (which is becoming more popular in the West.

    The way you encourage adventure reminds me of my parents tbh. I’d love to try the silkworm pupae, they look and sound delicious! I’ve always been curious about eating insects, but a lot of online shops seem to focus on the shock value (for Westerners) to eat insects rather than having them prepared as they are in countries where insects are commonly eaten.

    I guess the soft pupae are younger, because, once inside de pod, they will liquify and start to build their new body. So, i believe the soft ones are still "early building".

    • @secretdiaryofafoodie
      @secretdiaryofafoodie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      simlover00 they can be prepared in different ways to the ways she's eaten them before though (mainly just dehydrated & hard with no seasoning). I'd love to see her use them in recipes and eat them in different ways. Eg in Australia they're currently promoting a range of insect ice creams which include meal worms & crickets amongst others, and in Cambodia freshly deep fried tarantula was popular.

    A couple of summers ago I was in Arkansas and bored one evening, and read about how Native Americans used to roast June Bugs over the fire and eat them like popcorn. Since June Bugs come into the lights at night in droves, I decided to sacrifice a few. I just heated some oil and fried them. I recommend them highly! (And there is one intriguing little surprise that happens when you fry them...) 😏

    the sweet basil one is actually pad-kaprao flavoured, hence the salty and sweet taste. กะเพรา = kaprao = sweet basil

    Took some hunting, but I managed to find a listing for the silkworms on Amazon and in the suggested products line, I had flashbacks to bugmas because everything from those episodes was in that little bar. If I can grow a pair, I might order me some. There was a mix of bugs though that had that creepy mole cricket. Don't know if I'm brave enough for that particular packet yet.

    Emmy, can you do a video about Sea Cucumber?
    I work with them, but never seen them eaten before, and it would be interesting to see the process of how they are served/cooked :D
