I think that salty cube is meant to be used with hot water, with the water diluting its saltiness, softening the crunchy stuff, and the whole combination becoming a soup.
That little “freeze dried cake” was actually freeze dried soup I’m pretty sure, egg drop soup to be specific your supposed to put it in a bowl and pour boiling water over it and it’ll rehydrate and melt!
