I think your tracking issues may be partially because of your green screen area. Try putting some masking tape/dots on your walls to help the camera determine the boundaries.

Got the Rift S awhile back and one of the things that made me extremely happy was when people started talking about how it loses tracking when your hands are close to the mask (like aiming down a rifle's sights), they almost immediately patched it. It was like 2 weeks of an honestly not so big problem and they fixed it promptly. I'll be sticking with Rift as a company for a long time because of it, it left a really good impression on me. Hopefully HTC can do the same.

Never been a fan of Facebook as a company and never made an account but I'm really into what they are doing for VR. Yes I can see where they are going and that they will start to force Facebook account stuff with some of their apps Like venues and I'm assuming that one they mentioned at connect. I think given the amount of money they are putting into VR and development and the funding of John Carmack though I will probably be fine with it if I eventually have to make an account. Google has all my data anyway and I'm OK with it for the convenience of using their tech. The idea of VR is something I've been obsessed with since I was a kid (35 now) and they are making it happen

ikr, i was looking forward to the cosmos.. a mix between the rift s and the index. and most importantly, not connected to facebook...
but this thing looks like it has far far worse support and tracking than my cheap ass wmr... which by the way is 90hz and 1440x1440x 2 (more than rift s).. so i still see no reason to upgrade.. i want a flip up visor, higher resolution screens, marginally better lenses and better controller tracking to upgrade.. the cosmos promised this.. and let me down... so now my wmr is better value than a cosmos.. i guess i can 'flex' about that.. but id rather have a functioning cosmos..
im all for inside out tracking. wmr started it and proved it works, oculus continued it and proved it can work well. so now i just want a decent inside out tracked headset, for a decent price.. but unless i want to downgrade resolution and fps for a rift s there is no current upgrade path for me.. not to mention the rift s is twice what i paid for my wmr..

    • @UnknownSquid
      @UnknownSquid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@ashcosmo3854 Best Spec'd VR? Index, Paimax, and the HP-Reverb would all disagree.
The Cosmos threw in a token 60 pixels more than the Index vertically to try and pretend it's got the better display, but the panels are lower quality and it lacks the FoV improvements to get any actual value out of them. In practice games will be running at the exact same pixel density, just with a tiny bit more on the top and bottom that you can't even see clearly.
Even with firmware updates the tracking will still be camera based, which is a major downside vs any lighthouse system, and the additional adaptor+lighthouses+controllers required to make the Cosmos a lighthouse headset puts the total cost of the system in the area of $1300 to $1400.
The Cosmos is far from the best spec'd VR. It's a weird middle ground option that was sadly late to the party vs both the Rift-S and the Index. It tried to compete with both at the same time, rushed it's release in a bid for the Christmas sales, and has ultimately failed to win over either side of the market. It was a bold and interesting attempt, but Vive should probably have gone for one or the other more specifically. Either a $500 Rift-S competitor, or a $600 successor to the OG Vive, still featuring lighthouse as it's primary tracking method. Chasing after both ends of the market at once was reckless.

A Rift S was my first entry into VR. I thought I would indulge myself by "upgrading" to the Vive Cosmos, but ran into all the problems outlined in this video. The tracking is simply appalling, as compared to the Rift S, to the point that Beat Saber was virtually unplayable unless I lit my room with flood lights and held my arms in front of me at all times, which was made difficult by those heavy, clunky controllers. Sure, the image quality was better, as long as I could keep the "sweet spot," but I could never keep it for long. On top of all that, Viveport Origin is simply undercooked as a hub environment. The Cosmos is now on its way back for a refund, and I have a new appreciation for the Rift S as a reliable, easy-to-use headset.

I played beat saber and the tracking is just so fast and faultless. I don't know why some people complain about tracking issues which I've had none whatsoever. I also love the fact that I don't have to turn on the lighthouse sensors as the cosmos requires none. My Vive Pro sensors used to make buzzing noises and it's annoying as hell. This is one of those *many* cases where there is no "better" solution. "Better" is not a scientific term, I'd like people to stop using this BS when talking about tech.
AA batteries have the BIG advantage of being quickly replaceable, plus it has a way bigger autonomy, and for the same autonomy it is lighter than the usual batteries. But they have the BIG issue of being more expensive in the end and must be stocked if you don't want to run out of it (it happened to me... a lot... xD).
Personally, I choose AA batteries whenever I can. Rechargeable batteries simply don't have a good enough autonomy (that's actually the BIGGEST issue in electronics).

Wow! Thanks a lot man. I’ve almost bought Vive Cosmos, but now I understand that I better wait until issues are fixed or maybe buy Quest or Rift S

Get the quest the s has software issues

    • @Zuko1325

Asteroid Hare, Rift S should have better tracking, because of the additional camera on top. Software issues not a problem, they will be fixed eventually. I don’t need mobile gaming support at all, but I am concerned about lack of hardware ipd adjustment in S, since I have ipd around 70 mm

HTC isn't keeping up with the competition especially in the prices, their prices are out to lunch. I'm surprised they're still in business.

Lol @ all the upset oculus fanboys with their inferior display resolution and 80hz.. Oculus patched the Rift tracking as it awful on release and HTC will do the same. Specs wise Cosmos remains the superior product and will be the best once a few firmware updates are released.

Good honest review. Im looking to get in to VR and have been looking over all the head sets recently and I was really going to go for the COsmos when it came out. But now after this I think I will have to rethink. Looks like the Rift S or Index.

no they didnt, it's good that they went for it, and sad that they're going away again. it helped make it more universal, until the index controllers become universal

Great and honest review Mike, especially considering they gave you the headset! Hopefully the game compatibility and tracking issues will be quickly resolved with some updates. I'm an Oculus fanboy but don't want any brand's headset to be dead on arrival. I think as time has gone on the Rift S has looked better and better, ironic seeing as Oculus themselves are killing it...
