- HTC Vive sent me out the Vive Cosmos with the Cosmos Elite face plate to review. I've heard really mixed things about this headset so I wanted to check it out for myself.

Hi, Also from Australia and when looking for a new VR unit I chose the Cosmos for a number of reasons (given no Index availability)... and to be honest have been quite happy with it. 1) The biggest, most important reason was the picture quality and resolution over the Occulus. 2) The flexibility of inside/outside tracking is important as I often switch from my computer room to home theater when I have parties or guests over. Set up is extremely easy and quick. I have friends who don't bother to get out their VR units when friends are over anymore due to the hassle 3) Fortunately price is no issue for me so I will probably get the elite face plate in the future so the ability to upgrade and add on is nice. In terms of performance, I play a lot of chill games like No Mans Sky, Fallout/Skyrim VR and mostly racing sims so tracking is no major issue making the cosmos the best visual option . Beat Saber is perfectly fine as long as you have plenty of lighting. For more intense pvp games like Pavlov or if was more serious with Beat Saber then I'd probably wait to for the elite unit. As you say, Naysy, price is the biggest issue but If you have the money the cosmos is a great option and not nearly as bad as people (especially those who haven't used it) make it out to be.

My wife has taken over my Quest because of Beat Saber and she's not a gamer or at least she wasn't LOL. I found her with my quest this evening and she was just finishing. I said you all done? She said 1:15 straight was all she could take LOL. Sweat dripping HAHAHA.
Very good review. Fully agree on the price, that would be the breaker for me in choosing either of these. I have a Quest already and would choose it again over the Cosmos if I was buying today. And if I wanted a more elaborate system, I'd choose the Index, which is available to me and isn't much more expensive than the Elite.

Wow the purple look is amazing
I have a rift S and i do want to point out that it does have an headphone jack so you can put your own on if you want. Built in seems better as your headset wont fly off your head. Thanks for the review, in the 3 years ive had my rift, the left controler is the only thing thats left of the original package

because the valve index isnt released in Australia, the cosmos is a great runner up currently.
the external tracking works great but the faceplate was a hard loss of $'s.

I like the look of the controller looks very futuristic
The Elite is a great all around "quality of life" headset. Configuration with 99% of games is perfect, the flip up mode to rest is a godsend, and the visuals are amazing with no screendoor. With the upgradeability and assortment of add-on accessories, its the best All Around future proof device for enthusiasts.
Wait no screen door or is it a really really small screen door because I thought we were not at a stage for a perfect vr display will no screen door
@@BubbleBlue In that sweet spot its really good in comparison to the oculus rift and some of the WMR I've tried. The Index and Pimax 8K is what I'd consider to be perfect but it's really up there in terms of quality. It's harder to find the sweet spot but once you do its 9/10 in that category.
I use a cosmos to play beat Saber and the insight out tracking is super frustrating when your hands move into the blind spots. Also doesn't work well in dimly lit rooms. I'm thinking about possibly replacing it with a Rift S or Quest due to limited options in Aus
The Quest has great external tracking as long I keep the NiMH AA batteries fully charged. I play Beat Saber on Expert & Expert+ without issues. Standard 1900ma AA Eneloop batteries are the most compatible in my experience.

I noticed that your vr gameplay with the original htc vive cosmos’s the tracking didn’t look horrible did the fix the tracking
It wasn't horrible but I couldn't read twitch chat when looking at my hand which was a big yikes for me. It kept floating off
Ya know wat doesn’t make sense the cosmos face plate is 200 dollars the original cosmos is 700 dollars but the cosmos elite kit is 900 dollars and 700 + 200 = 900 so in the elite kit you basically get free base stations and vive wands

If ya live in Australia is is a great option to replace the index

Right now the Cosmos Elite is now 700 USD on Amazon. I still think it's too expensive especially since it still uses the boomer Vive wands

A VR headset doesn't need headphones in my opinion, just have a surround sound system with a speaker in in each corner of the room and CRANK THE TUNES LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also were glasses Naysy, and with the Rift S with it's high resolution, I find I don't have to wear my glasses and my eyes don't hurt at all during or after play. Might want to give it a go.
But to each their own, you are either a VIVE Person or an OCULUS person.

If you plug it into a PC it's the same as my current tutorial. For wireless it's a bit trickier.
I reallly want one but there to expensive ;-; this is why you can have beat saver on phone as well I think .,.?
Yeah the cosmos is too expensive for a lot of people because you will need a pc that can run vr and you then need to buy the headset but if you want a good vr experience I will recommend the oculus quest they are expensive (£400 For 64gb £500 for 128 gb I don’t know about dollars or any other currency so you’ll have to translate in google) but you don’t need a pc for a good experience. Now there have been rumours about a “quest 2” and when a new version of the quest comes out (if its an upgrade to the quest) the prices will drop.
