    CoupleCarReview
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Tesla Model Y electric SUV. Tesla continues to dominate the electric car market! The Model Y is now the most popular electric vehicle in the US and its popularity continues to grow around the world. Let us know if you have any questions for us, leave them below, we’ll pick some of them to answer in our review. There are two Model Y models, the Long Range with 384 horsepower and 531 km/318 miles of EV range. It goes 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds/0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. It comes with standard 19” wheels, optional 20” wheels, which our test model has and up to 7-passenger seating. The second option is the Performance model with 450 horsepower and 488 km/303 miles of EV range. It goes 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds/0-60 mph 3.5 seconds. It comes standard with 21” wheels with up to 5-passenger seating. This model has performance brakes, a lowered suspension and aluminum alloy pedals. With standard AWD, the Model Y has two independent electric motors that control torque to the front and rear wheels for better handling, traction and stability control. Tesla clearly has the charging infrastructure in place with 3,000+ Supercharger stations and 30,000+ Superchargers around the world with 6 new locations opening up every week. Tesla says you can recharge up to 261 km in 15 minutes at Supercharger locations. The Model Y can tow 3500 pounds and Tesla offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles. The battery and drive unit is 8 years or 192,000 km/120,000 miles. This Tesla provides a lot of versatility whether you go with the 5 or 7-seater model. The interior is clean, simple and clutter-free with a beautiful glass roof that creates an open cabin. You’ll notice there is no head-up display or gauge cluster keeping with the minimalistic design.
The technology is amazing, the touchscreen controls everything, there are no buttons or knobs to play with, but the good news is it’s intuitive to use. Not only is it fast but responsive and the graphics are clear. It comes with two wireless chargers that are quick, the fastest I’ve used in a vehicle. To initiate a voice command in the Model Y, hit the button to the right of the steering wheel to open the glove box, the tailgate, heat your seats or steering wheel. There’s also Netflix and TH-cam if you want to watch shows/Motormouth reviews while your vehicle is charging. The front seats are comfortable and supportive and the elevated seating position and low dash gives the driver a great view of the road ahead. The second row is spacious with a flat floor and each second row seat folds flat independently creating great storage space if you need to move larger items or even carry skis. We managed to fit a car seat in the middle seat without an issue. The 3rd row is tiny and best used in a pinch for small children. The Tesla Model Y has a small front trunk and a larger rear cargo area. There’s also additional storage underneath the cargo floor, my carry-on suitcase fit perfectly and gave me more room to store other items. Space management in the Model Y is excellent.

Time to revisit the 2023 Model Y AND Long range, improved suspension, software now allows for regen level settings, and now a great price with the recent price reduction and now it qualifies for both Canadian Federal & provincial EV rebates makes it compelling buy, the test drive to see if it does truly have improved suspension.

I've been subscribed for a just over a year and have watched a bunch of your reviews as we were in the market for two new cars this year. I found the reviews to be super helpful. I will preface all of his by saying that I am not a "car guy". For me a car is a way to get from point A to point B. Up until 5 or so years ago buying a car was all about whether or not my 6'3" and 6'5" kids fit somewhat comfortably in the back seat. The missus wanted a small SUV and she test drove a bunch of them and based a good part on your review we went with an Audi Q3. She loves it. The only real requirement for my car was will my goalie equipment fit. I test drove most of your top 10 cars and a boatload of other cars. For shits and giggles I decided to test drive the Model Y and the Model 3. I was beyond pleasantly surprised at the drive and the technology. I don't by a car because it has a million little nobs and a dozen displays. I like simple. I also don't by a car because of the interior, I spend more time on my $5,000 couch. Nor do I consider how well the car performs on the track, because frankly the most challenging corner that I am going to take is the one coming into my driveway. At the end of the day I bought a Model 3. The Model Y was too big. My goalie equipment fits in the car. It's fun to drive. It has everything that I need plus more. And as I continued to watch the price of gas go up, I was happy to drive by the gas stations. Is it the best car out there. No. But you know what, it's fun to drive and it doesn't fart dinosaurs.

With the recent price drop, a lot more value now. I agree with you that the interior is lacking, but you know what, I had multiple different kids sit in the car, they don't care about anything other than the screen and the software. Tesla figured out what people interact with the most and really focus on those features and got rid of things people never use, such as retractable sun roof.

I know it has been a year since this video but I had to watch it again after experiencing the Model Y on a vacation to Arizona recently. I have to say that the car is amazing and I want one! When flying from NL to Arizona, it was pure comfort to sit in their seats! Best seats in a vehicle that I have experienced and I am a E-Class Mercedes owner. The tech, the acceleration, the charging network, all made for a fantastic driving vacation in Arizona and Nevada. Thank you Hertz for having the Model Y, I am hooked! Now if I can only get Tesla to set up shop in Newfoundland.... :)

I thought I would give you guys a second look after commenting on your EV cars review. This review, in my opinion, is better than the overall EV review.
Tesla is the industry leader by far and should be acknowledged as such. If it were not for Tesla we would all still be shaking in our boots every time we have to gas up. (Gas $$$$ has gone up again). Is Tesla 100%, no but well on their way. Just a note about the regenerative breaking thing you mentioned. You can adjust that setting and save that setting to your profile. Actually you can create a “driving in snow” setting for those snowy days. This moves the drive mode to chill and reduces the regen breaking settings. It works.
There is a lot to know about this car and it doesn’t help when it gets the software updates every few months, changing the options.
    So thank for your review.
PS. I love my model Y 2021 November 6 Victoria Bc. No fit and finish issues at all and compared to my corvette, yes it’s quicker off the line as well as offering a smoother ride.😉

  • @billbecker5357

Test drove one recently. Negatives: (1) suspension (like driving Flintstone wheels); (2) rear view visibility is horrible (sliver of a back window and side mirrors too small); (3) price ($70k US); (4) it's all EV (would prefer a hybrid); (5) color choices; (6) size (not really enough space for an "SUV". Positives: (1) the control center (especially the nav aid, air conditioning controls, music options, apps); (2) center console (charging base for 2 iPhones (Yes!)); (3) handling (fast); (4) ecosystem (yes, it is the iPhone of cars); (5) range (300+); (6) ubiquitous charging stations.

That was one of the best reviews of the Model Y to date, it was very complete. Your commentary about the shoddy interior for the money, is spot on, how could you leave a modern German car interior for such a plastic-fantastic experience? Yet the technology almost wins me over, as an Apple guy, I totally want to drink the Tesla Kool Aide, but not just yet.. still watching. Loving my W212.

Three weeks ago, I bought a 2024 Model Y Long Range AWD in red with white interior. Love to drive it, but EPA estimated range is not achievable, even with gentle driving. FYI. There are 3 levels of regenerative braking, from very little to strong. You guys did a great job. I have 2 model Y’s, a long range and later the performance and the performance is the most exciting car that I have driven. I have driven it throughout the western United States without fear. You can be traveling around 80 to 90 miles per hour without feeling a thing. An important part you left out is the hospital grade bio grade Hepafiltration system and that the insurance companies rate the Teslas as the safest cars on the road. It was cheaper for me to insure my model y performance than my old 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Keep up your great work

I always take what consumer reports says or even "reports" from consumer surveys with cars, with a grain of salt..... most people don't know that the top contributors to them are mainstream automakers.....anyone can donate to them not just through subscriptions.....they can and are being "bought" so to speak.....are their good people that work there for the right reasons and try to be non biased....yes. but not all the big wigs are. I used to watch their TH-cam channel for reviews and especially there weekly "show" and it just seemed like every time Tesla came up in convo they would just trash them more and more. No car co is perfect and frankly for them to be as good if not better in quality overall as some mainstream automakers in just a decade.....shows how good they really are. Frankly I'm excited to see where they'll be in another ten yrs. Great review as always !

I am a new follower. I really enjoyed your review. One comment, no one who spends that much on a car is cheap (frugal?). Here is how I feel about Tesla. I ordered a Model Y a few months ago and it is due in a few weeks. The last car I purchased that I was actually excited about was a 2 seat convertible sports car I bought in 1974. I am a motorcyclist and in my mind cars generally boring and slow. These things are very quick, some are even into motorcycle performance realm. Yes there is a Tesla cult and I get it. I feel like I have joined the Tesla revolution. I do feel the quality is a bit sloppy, especially compared to some of the Japanese cars. However, I have owned Japanese, German (including a couple of BMWs), and British cars over the years. Both the British and German cars require a bit of commitment because in my experience they simply are not up to the level of reliability and durability of their Japanese competitors. However the Japanese (and American) cars in my opinion are boring, kind of like refrigerators. Tesla has brought to me a new level of excitement I have not had about cars in years and I am willing to put up with its shortcomings.

I subscribe to other channels with many more subs, but those are more entertaining than anything.
On the Tesla Model Y, it has a different definition of luxury. It's not about reliability, fit and finish or quality of materials, it's about freedom from the pump, outrageous speed for the dollar and a digital experience on par with the latest from Apple/Google/Microsoft. Everyone else feels like a traditional car with software Frankenstein-ed on.

I own a 2020 Y performance + with enhanced autopilot and 20,000Kms. Suspension is the main issue mainly in the back. The paint and finish is defective but no rattles so far. That being said, the super charger network is second to none and the service is premium with service rangers house calling for minor fixes. The interior space is great and the leader in its category. Frunk, Trunk and under trunk are unique. The price is high, mostly for the performance + but the 100 kms in 3.7 secs. Is awesome. Cheers.

I got a model Y back in October. It's a great car. Of course, there are issues and like you mentioned - it is very much in the luxury price point and some stuff like air suspension should be there or as an option. However, I wanted an EV for my mid-life crisis car (just an excuse) - and nothing else is nearly as *fun* as a Tesla. Also as a software engineer, I'm all in on the tech. In fact, at work, when I told someone I was considering buying a new car - they simply asked which Tesla I was planning to buy - and I had never mentioned an interest in Tesla before. Yeah, I guess my co-workers know me well. Looking the other charging networks make is clear that Tesla is the best option for anyone considering road trips with an EV. Other networks are questionable but the Supercharger network is very solid. I would like to see mass adoption of EVs - I think the car tech is ready but the infrastructure is still lacking - making EVs impractical for many single-car families.

I just took delivery of a 2023 Model Y white with white interior and hitch, I could not believe the delivery experience, stellar second to none, 150% better than the 2023 Ioniq 5 I just got rid of. The ride not quite as smooth as the Ioniq 5, the noise is well attenuated on rough roads, except for expansion joints - we opted for the 19" base wheels and tires for efficiency and better ride (I may upgrade the shocks to adaptive ones later on). The infotainment is just 1000% over the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and now I can road trip with confidence as the Canadian Government has no mandates to insure access to recharging on any major routes inparticular the Trans-Canada Highway which we will be heading to Pembroke Ontario during the summer. Sorry Petro Canada your electric Highway is terrible at the moment for CCS charging, you admited your reliability sucks and I for one did not want to be left stranded! Do not take me wrong we have done over 45,000KM long distance road trip in our 2020 Kia Soul EV, but in the last couple of years the CCS chargers are dying a slow death and finding populated functioning CCS chargers that work is getting hard to find.

Turn AC to 18 degrees...and it does it, two hands remain on the steering wheel, its safer and why do we need switches...

Love the review! Was looking forward to Zack’s honest uncut opinion lol.
I was interested earlier in the year to order a Standard Range RWD model Y because for $42k it was a good deal with 260 miles of range and the same features on the standard range model 3.
After a couple of months on the market they got rid of it. And that’s my main problem with Tesla. Their main focus is deliver, deliver, deliver, and screw the less optioned, smaller models that would probably appeal more to people for their lower price, tax credit or not. But, they have to make money. Sadly, they did not get mine.
The Model Y had gone through 8 price increases this year, and now they are squarely in luxury car territory. Most Tesla owners don’t give two craps that the interior is the quality of a CR-V, or that the paint is thin, or the QC is sorely lacking, they’ll justify it all to say their car is the greatest ever. And if Tesla keeps attracting customers with that mindset, all those issues will never improve, or until the competition catches up.

Great vid. I was wondering when you are going to review a Tesla. Finally!!! Totally agree with Andrea. it's about the technology, range and the less crap about service cost, etc... If this car has a Porsche or Merc model S interior quality, it would then cost over 10k then the price is no longer justifiable. We have a Model 3 and the only thing we dislike about it is the windshield wipers sensitivity when it's raining at night. Regular Rain sensors are much better than the camera sensor in the model 3. Incan live with this flaw because everything else and we still have the option to put the wipers in manual mode.
