One thing that most reviewers almost universally forget to mention..The Tesla Supercharging network is 99% reliable on a roadtrip compared to the dodgy third party charging networks that all other brands have to use.

    • @reedog117

True in the US, but in the EU/UK everyone uses the same connector so quite a bit different story there.

Except for all those Tesla owners queuing over the holidays becaue the car only sends them to Superchargers, not the much larger selection of perfectly good other chargers. In a few years time it will be really odd that Tesla's have their own chargers, when they are a very small proportion of EVs.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not really true in the UK, super chargers have opened up to non-teslas. All chargers and all EVs use the CCS connector, so all chargers are available to all EVs.

Totally agree. The U.K. Supercharger network is sublime. It works as designed and for me every time. The way that they have managed to organise it so that you can just plug it in and there is no faffing around with cards or pin numbers. It’s just absolutely the way it should be done.

Thank you for your honest review. It will be very help for people who are unfamiliar with Tesla.
    Some of my favourite features:
    - Keyless entry (using my phone)
    - Driver’s profiles (I’m 1,94 meters, my wife is 1,64 meter). Except for the interior mirror (which is a bummer) every setting (steering wheel position, seat position, mirror position) is adjusted automatically when the driver opens the driver door.
    - Fantastic audio system
    - The Tesla App.
    - And of course the brilliant acceleration.

(i ) the autopilot really reduces fatigue on long runs.
(ii) the sound system is way better than a premium system in a Merc/Audi/BMW

  • @djtaylorutube
    @djtaylorutube ปีที่แล้ว +10

We tried an Ioniq 5, it was ok, didn't really trigger a buy signal in me, maybe that was because I said to the salesguy "I don't need another car but there's nothing stopping me from buying one." and he never asked if I wanted to buy one. Tried a Kia EV6, liked that except for the long wait time and the headrest kept bumping my head and isn't adjustable. Never a Tesla fan but figured we should try the Model 3 which was available at the time and sure enough, didn't like it.
I couldn't get my feet under the seats when sitting in the back, not practical enough for 4 adults. I wanted a hatchback with full open loading space. I didn't need another saloon car so it didn't bring anything that we don't already have.
A while after the Model Y came out, we went to see one and my only complaint is the Tesla test drive experience, 20 minutes starting in a city centre so 10 minutes in each direction really doesn't let anyone experience the vehicle in different conditions. That said, we found every issue that we weren't happy with on the Model 3 were no longer issues for us. The rear passenger space in the Y is a world of difference to the M3.
We placed an order for the Model Y as the factors that really feature high for me were NCAP safety, supercharger network and the integration with the car navigation and also, something which is often overlooked, efficiency! Tesla are ahead of everyone else in these three areas, others are playing catch up.
I get that it's quite a divisive choice for people but we're happy with it.

What you and most reviewers completely fail to recognize is the change from one off car models to fully integrated software, firmware and hardware platforms that Tesla has pioneered and other ev makers are trying to emulate (without much success thus far)
Tesla continually provides SOTA (software over the air) and more importantly FOTA (firmware over the air) updates. This is huge as it keeps the vehicle up to date for a much longer time than the old tech cars and significantly reduces depreciation and maintenance costs and continually improves driving experience, performance and safety.
Compare this to the first Android phones which could not upgrade operating system or download apps.
Look well known issues with VW group software and firmware, Hyundai with trying to add battery conditioning etc.

We just bought a model Y and absolutely love it. We love the looks, the ride, the storage, and the nerd factor. What other car has a Santa mode, with the car rendered on the screen as a sleigh with reindeer? But most important, what other car can offers a variety of fart sounds? Someone at Tesla has a puckish sense of humor, and that someone may well be the much reviled Elon Musk.

In general the charging infrastructure in the Netherlands is quite good, though slow. Therefore, in the Netherlands, I hardly use Tesla’s supercharger, because I charge overnight.
Nevertheless the supercharger network of Tesla is the best; period.
Last year we’ve made a road trip from the Netherlands to Rome (Italy). During our three week road trip we didn’t have any problems charging, though the general charging infrastructure in the other countries (Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Switzerland and Italy) wasn’t that well to almost non-existent. Due to the Tesla charging network there was always a charger on our route. The navigation system is marvellous in that sense. Just type in your destination and it will show where to charge, and if you’re in a hurry for how long.
For the EV newbie’s; do not trust the battery mileage indicator. Trust the mileage indicated in the navigation system. That one, in my experience, is flawless. Keep you eye on that one.
If your ‘accelator foot’ is made of lead, you should cut your mileage in half or even more.
I drive my M3P for 2,5 years now. I literally only had to top of wiper fluid and of course my charging. Haven’t pay more that €24,- for a full charge.
In my humble opinion; there no better car than a Tesla. It’s a thoughtful made car, caring for the well-being of the occupants.
In a Tesla you don’t pay extra for safety features. These are the safest cars you can buy.

Another top review Tish. I love the way you say it as you see it both inside and out. It clearly is built for practicality over fun but Tesla already have those bases covered in other models. As a practical EV I think it's hard to beat but I have to agree its looks are not its strong point but I wouldn't quite call it hideous. I'm not a fan of total touch screen control though, a single point of failure from a user control point of view. It's not cheap though but compared to some rivals it's not too expensive either. Too costly for me at the moment though. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. Wishing you a happy new year.

Your review is spot on - incredible space and technology together with ridiculous performance but a bland car and just okay ride. Didn’t order one as £60K just too much for what it is IMHO. However will definitely revisit it in 2/3 years time given the SR model is out now at £52K and I think there will be a sub £50K model out by then.
Eventually decided not to change our family car and got a Peugeot e208 as our second car and very pleased with it. I do know one thing - will never buy another ICE car again so Model Y is in pole position when we change our family car.

This video was okay, but really falls short on show what separates Tesla from any other EV on the market. You see the person reviewing this vehicle has no technical knowledge about it. This is why the most important features of this vehicle was not even mentioned. It’s sad because many people watch these videos and never find out about these features. I sincerely hope the reviewer can do some homework and learn all the ends and outs of the software which is what makes Tesla better than any other EV. Apple and android products are not needed as all that functionality is already provided in Tesla software. It’s crazy to here people still wanting this old technology, but it shows that reviewers know nothing about Tesla software. They just added Apple Music as a feature in the Tesla software for free. Next Tesla has the best voice command system on the market period. The voice command system is so good that you hardly ever have to use the screen. You can simply press a button on the steering wheel, issue the command, and the software executes for you. There are plenty of videos on TH-cam showcasing Tesla voice commands so if you own a Tesla please take some time to watch them and you will have a lot of fun with the vehicle. Also, the software has secure 3rd party app integration. This allows me to issue voice commands from my Apple Watch to my Tesla. This is a great convenience as I can open my trunk using Siri when coming out of the grocery store. The software has so many features and options which is the main reason why so many people like the vehicle. Also Tesla continues to update and improve the software over the air and also add additional features all for free. No other automaker is doing this. Get to know the software if you really want to know why Tesla vehicles are so popular.

    • @blower1
      @blower1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Removal of the USS is the daftest thing Tesla have ever done, and one which I know they will come to regret and possibly have to reverse with a retrofit when the promise of tesla vision fails.
It will be impossible to replace them reliably with camera's only. Now I'm sure they will get it to work pretty well - when it's dry and daytime. However soon as it rains and the rear camera gets covered in specs of dirt and rain it will fall to pieces and no doubt will come up with a warning saying rear parking sensors unavailable due to camera blinded. You only have to look at the reversing camera when its raining - the picture is a blurry mess...and if there is some dirt sprayed up into it (which happens often on UK roads) - you can see very little.
Also the front camera can't see anything close to the vehicle below bonnet height, so that's gonna be useless as the only time you rely on the front sensors really is for things you have trouble seeing outside the field of view of the windscreen!
So basically you will have useless front sensors and rear parking sensors that don't work at all in the rain and no doubt poorly in the dark.....an epic fail if you ask me.

My first EV was a X, then went to 3P in march 19, but got a 2023 Y Performance on the 28th of december.
The YP is much better in most ways, the only things that are better in the 3P are: gocart feeling (driver engagement) and rear view visibility through window.
The YP from berlin (2023 model) is very well built, also its quite silent even on the 21" winter wheels with Nokian R5.
It is also very efficcient, I didnt have heat pump in the 2019 3P, but the newer ones do.. However I see constantly I get much more range out of the Y than the navi estimates. For instance I was driving a long trip in the winter weather in Norway, over the mountains. At the beginning of the trip it estimated I would arrive with 9% SoC, but after some driving it was saying 18%, then an hour later 19%.. So I do really like the car.
The YP also is quite qick and has now gotten track mode as 3P has. The Y also has terrain mode, larger roof window, more practical hatch..
On the YP also one can get tow hitch, this you cant get on 3P regrettbly.
I do miss the accelleration from the 3P though, but the yP is "quick enough".

@@GregInATX nah, thing is that in Norway we got tax and weight fee on 1.st of jan. 2023 for EVs.
So we got weight fee for 12.5kr (aboutg 12.5$ per kg over 500kg).
Also for each krone over 500.000 (over ~50.000 USD), we have to pay 25% VAT from 1st of january.
Got my car the 28 des. so final price with winter tires was about 64.000$.
But now it costs a bit less, about 63.000$.. The price out from Tesla has been dropped a lot, but the VAT and weight fee brings price back up.
And if I did wait more for selling, the 3P would have dropped even more in price..
So timing wise its still good for me. People buying the cars below 50.000$ however (500.000NOK), get no VAT. SO they loose more in difference.

Having owned a new Model 3 P for a few months now, the car is excellent and i love it - but there are some basic functions that are standard on a car of this price, that it doesn't do very well - all of this applies to the Model Y as well.
-Adaptive cruise control is horrible at low speeds, i.e. stop start traffic. It lurches forward way too fast, only to then have to decelerate a lot as it gets close to the car in front. It's like a bad learner driver, jerking it's way along in traffic. It's much better on the motorway but for stop start traffic it's unusable. Having previously owned a 2018 Golf, it was a lot better at creeping along in stop start traffic.
-Auto wipers....a recent update has improved these somewhat but they are still nowhere near as good as every other car with a proper rain sensor. Until the update they were useless.....either taking way too long to wipe or suddenly going mental and super fast wipe when there is hardly (if any) rain at all. They are still not right - particularly at night when it has trouble seeing the rain drops....Tesla's obsession on using the camera's for every sensor function is making things like this glitchy at best.
-Auto high beam....Thankfully an update a month or so ago has improved the Auto high beam so that it's now pretty good - prior it was completely useless and dangerous. It's a good job they fixed it as the auto high beam is activated regardless every time you engage or reengage autopilot.
-Soft brakes.....Even on the performance model the brakes are pretty soft and lack any initial bite. To make things worse if you make the most of the (awesome) regen capabilities on Tesla's then the brake discs can get corroded from lack of use and combine this with the soft as butter brake pads you will find when you need to stop in a hurry the brakes do very little without you hammering them flat to the floor. Very disconcerting i can tell you! Better pads will solve this as, on the performance model at least, the brake calipers are pretty beefy 4 pot brembo's.
-No underbody protection paint/coating on the sills (rocker panels)......This one i find bewildering - every car i have owned in the last 20+ years has an underbody protective coating/paint on the bottom half of the sills. There is none on Tesla's - as a result you will get tiny paint chips all across your sill within just a 1000 miles. By 20k miles it will become very noticeable, especially on white and black cars. There is also no PPF on the lower rear quarter that you find on many cars - so you get paint chips there very easily too, more than you would expect which i think is a result of the air flow in that area due to the aero dynamic shape.
-Black flush fiddly door handles on a black car = invisible door handles at night!.....if you go for a black car you might be struggling to open the doors at night unless you have some very bright street/house lights.
Finally there are some quirks that have resulted in problems that never occurred on ICE cars.....having gone thru a very cold spell in December, it was not so great to discover that i now need to de-ice/frost my headlights!. Without the heat of the engine and no heat at all coming from the very efficient LED headlights, any frost that forms on them never clears - as a result the headlights are useless and you can see nothing with them unless you spray a can of de-icer on them.
Still on the flipside the defrost/pre-heat car function from your phone is a revelation - its so nice being able to heat the whole car up before getting in it and it being nice and toasty with all the windscreen clear....the latest models have heat pumps and so can chuck out a LOT of heat pretty quickly, enough to de-ice your windscreen within 5 minutes of preheating the car. Just a pity it can't also do the headlights!
