I just purchased a 2024 Terrain AT 4 , manufactured in Mexico. even if there was a 25% tarrif on it , it would not affect Canadian purchases. Tariffs will be paid for by the consumer of those products brought into the US for sale in America , so have at it Trump , it will be your people who will be affected and will harm your economy , Canada needs to find other markets to sell it"s products and by shifting , it will hurt the American economy even more.

My main concern with the Tariffs is whether it will cause "compression adjustments" in prices of other models. So as an example, Mazda manufactures the CX-30 in mexico. Lets say Trump imposes his 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico. Mazda would not eat the cost of this and pass it onto its customers. So a CX-30 that originally cost $30K MSRP, may now be $37,500. As a result, even though certain other cars (like the CX-5) are manufactured in Japan, Mazda may need to increase the MSRP on those to avoid certain models being priced out (so a CX-5 that has a $35K MSRP for a comparable trim, would now probably need to be adjusted to something closer to $40K.)
But vehicles produced in the U.S. would be the same price giving Mazda incentive to produce vehicles in the U.S.- that is the entire point. Honda makes tons of vehicles in the U.S. so people will buy more Honda's since the price will be cheaper because it doesn't have the tariff. Putting the cost on the consumers is a perfectly fine issue. Greedy companies will lose sales and profits, and companies that eat the cost and possibly move manufacturing to the U.S. will benefit greatly.

Doing my math here in Ontario that’s a savings of $600.00 at $1.50 a litre and the Forester Sport MSRP costs about $6,000.00 less then the new anticipated Hybrid that is coming. I’ve been told the new Forester Hybrid will be a top trim Premier model so it’s the most expensive model. The savings on gas would take up to 10 years to save to make up the difference. Thank you for answering! Was ready to pull the trigger on a RX until this video. 3rd row isn’t a big deal but space is. It seems to be in its own strange sizing category where it’s bigger than XC60, RDX, NX, etc. but not as big as the XC90, MDX, QX60.
The RX is a tough one for size. It used to be a small three-row SUV, the third row was tiny so it made sense for Lexus to eliminate the third row with this new model. What I like about the RX is the comfort level, the variety of powertrain options and reliability. But if you are really looking for more space, the others are better options.
It is what it is. It's basically a more utilitarian all- weather ES. RX has almost always been in a tweener zone, which does apparently fit a lot of people's needs (empty nesters and one or two kids or non road trip adults - for whom the NX, CX-50, various Hondas, even RDX, etc, etc, are too small or non-luxurious) - so not odd for those buyers... and for others with "real" 3rd row and extra space (including boxy shape) needs, there are these other products you mentioned. A miss on their part not grabbing more of that segment? Perhaps. I've always felt that, with just a slightly boxy-er shape, the vehicle would be much more useful (yet) and gain a disproportionately larger market segment...but apparently to date they've been doing just fine without doing that. The tariffs on Mexico and Canada to force them to renegotiate Trump's deal is only one part of the tariff plan. Trump has cited tariffs as a means of revenue generation, as well, which could raise the price of just about everything not 100% USA sourced and manufactured. In theory, this could raise the price of all cars foreign or domestic. In which case, used cars would get more expensive as well. In practice, we have no idea what this will actually look like.

If like me, you keep your car for a long time, 10+ years then I would for sure NOT touch the Chevy Trax. It has a "wet" timing BELT, direct fuel injection, stop/start feature. Car manufacturers are adding or changing things on cars that are hard on the engine. Eventually, they're going to be major problems with engine failures bc the government is demanding that car manufactures make cars with better emission standards. To do this manufacturers are putting strains on engines to improve emissions. : )

CX50 & Tucson hybrids made in U.S. If Trump brings tariffs, Canada will do same. So those cars may be subject to increases costs. Check dealership purchase agreements. They allow dealers to increase purchase price due to increased taxes after one signs the purchase agreement. Dealers can talk about honouring the agreed price but try to get them to take out that clause.
Journalists in Japan have already had a chance to test drive the new hybrid crosstreks, seems like getting reasonable hybrid fuel economy while having a driveshaft under the chassis
Sure anything is possible but I don't believe we will see the effects right away. The US has more inventory right now than we do in Canada for Toyota and Lexus models so dealerships can sell that through. But it won't take long and I wonder if there will be markups because of low inventory.

Trump wants Canadian resources and he will use extreme economic pressure to get them. He doesn't want to annex Canada just so he will get another 20 million voters for himself.
If Trump brings in Tariffs then we likely will respond. The result is that RAV 4 and Lexus pricing remains the same for us Canadians and US built cars will be more expensive. So buy Canadian buy Mexican and all will be well. Used pricing might increase for US built
@@Dave-hb7lx Trump is threatening 10-20% tariffs on Japanese parts etc. He seems more aggressive with Canada and Mexico right now. I feel in the short term and I could be wrong, Subaru will be okay. But, who knows really.
@@Dave-hb7lx Parts made in Japan are not affected unless the tariffs result in a weaker Canadian dollar. A weaker Canadian dollar makes it more expensive for us to buy stuff from anywhere because the US dollar is used for most businesses. US tariffs only applies to goods entering the US.
Canadians will be fine buying anything unless Canada retaliates by slapping tariffs on US made products. It's Americans who are going to be paying extra for EVERYTHING dumbass donny slaps a tariff on. Unfortunately, if something suddenly costs 25% more, people won't buy it, which affects our exports and ultimately, Canadian jobs.

GM seems to be having a LOT of electrical issues. There seem to be lots of lights and other electrical issues with the Envision from China (we test-drove one that just got off the transport and got unwrapped and the small climate bar wasn't lit up). The Lyriq and Blazer issues have also been with electrical systems (Lyriq is one of the most unreliable vehicles of 2024 according to CR). I am honestly not surprised. Our 1992 S-10 has electrical issues (unsurprising considering its age). A family member's 2016 LaCrosse (Which we are looking to upgrade from... wanting to submit a question at some point) has also had electrical issues which won't allow the engine to start at all "vehicle in battery saver mode" and lights flash quickly. It has left this person stranded about 4 times and we are tired of it which is a shame because otherwise, it is an amazing car!
Why Zach, would Canada want to appease the usa? Shouldn't the usa look after its border if the usa is concerned about it? Isn't this the usa telling Canada to pay for something that is in the usa's interest?
Canadians should want to know who is in our country too. The US found multiple terrorists entering the US illegally from Canada, drugs crossing the border and we have this insane car crime increase. Under Trudeau, Canada has let thousands of unvetted refugees into the country and now we have much higher crime and established links between Canada and their countries of origin for the import of drugs and export of cars. A CBC and Police report said this link is what is causing these crimes to skyrocket. This is a Canadian government manufactured problem that Canada needs to deal with for our safety and our neighbours.

I disagree with your last recommendation. I have driven both the QX60 and the MDX and I think the QX60 provides a better value and is more comfortable than the MDX. The only thing the MDX has over the QX60 is driving dynamic, but not worth the $5,000 - $7,000 difference in costs over the QX60.
These are my top 2 from the 4 I listed. Since looking used I think the QX60 provides even better value in the used market. The MDX was definitely more fun to drive, they were both super comfortable and quiet….but that awful track pad and clunky center area in MDX might put the QX60 over the top.

I hate the word “Tariff” because it is simply another word for a tax. The tariff is Never paid by the country that has its goods tariffed, but always is paid by the consumer buying the product. If the US citizens are taxed for buying goods from other countries, inflation will skyrocket exponentially and people will Not have as much income to spend on other goods. Is a depression coming?
Inflation will “skyrocket” . . . Exponentially? . . . with tariffs? You are assuming the 100% purchase of goods, imported from the target country. A better summation might be moderately higher.
And they only know what "inflation" is because the MAGA media machine hammered Biden as being the fault of high inflation due to the pandemic. The rest of the world had worse inflation than the US did. But MAGA whined and belly-ached the loudest about it.

Doesn't tRUMP have to get congress to go along with his wanting tariffs ? The Mitsubishi RVR is made in Japan, so does that mean it would be exempt from tariffs ? If like me, you keep your car for a long time, 10+ years then I would for sure NOT touch the Chevy Trax. It has a "wet" timing BELT, direct fuel injection, stop/start feature. Car manufacturers are adding or changing things on cars that are hard on the engine. Eventually, they're going to be major problems with engine failures bc the government is demanding that car manufactures make cars with better emission standards. To do this manufacturers are putting strains on engines to improve emissions. : )
You both roll rock and get what need to happen. If Canadian I would you in as the Prime Minister as a couple. Keep up the good work!
My 2013 Chevrolet Impala was made in Canada, it has over 150K miles on it and runs like a clock, you can’t go wrong with a Canadian built vehicle. 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
In most American leases Gap insurance is built in, at least every one I've ever had (many).
Trump is exagerating the problems with the Canadian border , the issues DO NOT justify any tariffs , if this was the case Canada should put tariffs on the US for failing to control the flow of illegal weapons coming thru the Canadian border , you see this pissing match can escalate pretty fast.
Good commentary on how to react to basic tariff bullying. We buy cars made in Canada for a reason. You make good cars. Use your leverage to keep trade with USA on the front page of American minds. I am sure Canada buys a lot of American made goos too.
I definitely think you should go to Australia and test out the Chinese EVs. I would love to hear your assessment of BYD etc relative to our offerings - especially the EVquinox. I personally have no problem with Chinese cars being sold here.
I love your channel, but please keep politics out of your commentary. I watch your videos as a "safe place" to learn interesting car insights without interjecting the daily drum-beat of current events and "my politican is better than yours." We get enough of that on other streaming channels or cable TV. Thanks.
Hi! Happy New Year.
Where is all the snow?
CX50 & Tucson hybrids made in U.S. If Trump brings tariffs, Canada will do same. So those cars may be subject to increases costs. Check dealership purchase agreements. They allow dealers to increase purchase price due to increased taxes after one signs the purchase agreement. Dealers can talk about honouring the agreed price but try to get them to take out that clause.
God job guys 👍
This will be an interesting one 😄
The crosstrek SHEV was released in Japan December.
You should have also included the auto parts that we sell to America. They will be tariff'd too.
Journalists in Japan have already had a chance to test drive the new hybrid crosstreks, seems like getting reasonable hybrid fuel economy while having a driveshaft under the chassis
For ones who ordered a cx50 in Canada, wouldn’t demand in the states could spike with limited supply from Toyota?
Sure anything is possible but I don't believe we will see the effects right away. The US has more inventory right now than we do in Canada for Toyota and Lexus models so dealerships can sell that through. But it won't take long and I wonder if there will be markups because of low inventory.
Love the car reviews but could do without the political opinions. We get it, you’re conservatives, please stick to car reviews and industry news
Sure change world be nice, but not if it includes PP as PM. How is that better for Canada?!
How would it not? Liberal policies have killed the country. Pierre is common sense. Hated by mainstream media. What policies of his won't work?
it's not, we must keep Liberal government if we want to keep our immigration steady and progress on 2SLGBTIA+ issues. PP is just Trump 2.0
@ yeah no thanks. Canadians do not agree those things are out issues right now. Liberals are out of touch. Screwed up the country.
Can you elaborate why PP would not be better for Canada?
@@janoycresnova9156 because he is a far-right politician, that cares only about money and power - just like Trump. And in Canada people care more about 2SLGBTQI+ issues and Climate Change, so we naturally need Liberal government. Simple!
Regularly watch the channel, but the increasing anti-liberal /political injection into the videos is becoming tiresome. Love the channel, but i find my self moving on to a different video when the political talk starts.
Where'd you get that jacket Zack, I like it a lot
It’s good to see the channel not shy away from some political issues. And Andrea nailed it here. Tariffs are just a negotiating tactic and the things Trump is asking for are the things Canada should be doing anyway such as border security. It’s common sense.
hello far-right PP supporter!
Yeah, just like the U.S. guards their southern border.
Trump wants Canadian resources and he will use extreme economic pressure to get them. He doesn't want to annex Canada just so he will get another 20 million voters for himself.

Happy New Year, Zach & Andrea🎉🤗🤎 Have you guys reviewed the GLC 350e yet?
Not yet but we are getting it soon.
@@andreaspencer9813 Yesssss 😂🎉 Thanks🙏🏿
No government handouts for specific products! Period.
If Trump brings in Tariffs then we likely will respond. The result is that RAV 4 and Lexus pricing remains the same for us Canadians and US built cars will be more expensive. So buy Canadian buy Mexican and all will be well. Used pricing might increase for US built
So if Canadian's bought the models made in Canada, we'd be fine?
Yes
@@Dave-hb7lx Trump is threatening 10-20% tariffs on Japanese parts etc. He seems more aggressive with Canada and Mexico right now. I feel in the short term and I could be wrong, Subaru will be okay. But, who knows really.
Should be. The tariffs only apply to vehicles shipping to the US. US tariffs do not apply to goods made in Canada for Canadians.
Trump will find away to eff this up for America, I’d bet the house

Hopefully you wake up some day and turn off your MSNBC.
Car prices are cratering - - - supply and demand
Let’s hope new cars crater as well, but I can’t see it.

Hearing Andrea saying pissing was disturbing. I may have to take off work tomorrow.

Slap 100% tariff on viewing Andrea. I will be the first to surrender
8:20 FYI the subaru 2.5L in the hybrid is a whole new engine. It is not the same as the old 2.5FB.
Which means it could be a reliability nightmare.
Huh but there are auto parts from Canada too...
Great input about he tariffs and what our oil from suncor and other can make it difficult for the USA to operate as Trump would like.
If we look at componets like wire looms and small parts in the vehicle there's quite a few that are manufactured in China that make into our vehicles . In my 2010 Traverse there's Chineese made parts in the vehicles , thats fifteen years old now.
Love your insight into how these Car companies operate and sell us vehicle , keep up the excellent work . We all need the info to make good decisions with vehicles

What about Ford factory in Canada ?
They are not producing cars just now, soon to make the Super Duty.
Ioniq 5... "If something happens to the battery". So how many battery problems were there? Like what? Zero?
driving Chinese EVs in Australia, which I understand are quality products, would show America what they're missing due to CURRENT protectionism... so YES please perform this SERVICE to the world
It would be interesting to know how many cars Canadians purchase that are built in the USA vs built in Canada vs built in all other countries.
3:52 oh, do you think that’s what he wants, Zac? Do you think that’s what he’s thinking about? Lol he has no ideas. The last time we reworked NAFTA it ended up with holes in it because he just wanted to change something. That’s how we ended up with Chinese companies being able to ship their stuff to Mexico and get around thetrade laws. Again, if you genuinely put your faith in this man, I hope he does buy your country and turn it into a shit hole like he’s trying to do this one.
You guys sounded like Maple MAGA blaming Canada for Trump’s insane insult. There were no good reasons Trump to insult Canada, and there shouldn’t be any Canadian finding an excuse for that insanity.
What is his reason , O , Canada is allowing people to come across the border!
Oakville has a pretty massive Ford facility
They are not producing cars just now, soon to make the Super Duty.
Car manufacturers will add the cost of tarrifs to the cost of cars so they will be more expensive for consumers. Or they can manufacture them in the US at higher cost and make the cars more expensive for consumers.
Ford is gearing up the Oakville, Ontario plant to build the 2026 Super Duty. They also build all 5.0 V8s in Windsor. As an American, I'm embarrassed for my country.
Zack, please don't do the "wellllcome" opening, too much like Hoovie (who I am not a big fan of). On the Subaru Forester hybrid, why would someone put a deposit on a yet to be provided specs on a brand new vehicle? That seems risky to me.
Take me along to Australia.
If tariffs are imposed I will no longer consider Ford, GM and legacy CDJR. Japanese, Korean or European only
I hate the word “Tariff” because it is simply another word for a tax.
60% of Trump voters didn't know what a tariff was.
@@dcb113 how many tariffs did Biden cancel ? How many did he introduce ? Or his voters don't know the word as well ? LOL
And they only know what "inflation" is because the MAGA media machine hammered Biden as being the fault of high inflation due to the pandemic. The rest of the world had worse inflation than the US did. But MAGA whined and belly-ached the loudest about it.
What are the chances for SKIPPY?
3, 2, 1 QX60. Couldn’t tolerate that track pad on a used MDX.
Yes, that's fair, I don't like it either. The new MDX is much improved.

Many IONIQ 5 owners (2024 models and older) have reported a problem with the ICCU unit making the 12V battery impossible to recharge and causing the car to stall. Hyundai is aware of this but the solution is not 100% perfect as a can understand. So it's better to lease than buying !!!

Refreshing to see an adult and nuanced discussion on Trump and not just resorting to name calling and ..isms/phobic labels we see in the media so often.
