    Model Y now available for order in the UK from this morning. Price versus competitors (in blue):
    Model Y LR AWD 20" Wheels = £58,190 (4 year warranty)
    Kia EV6 GT Line-S AWD 20" Wheels = £52,620 (7 year warranty)
    Hyundai Ionic 5 Ultimate AWD Highest Spec = £51,420 (5 year warranty)
    However, that's not the full story. In the USA the same spec Tesla:
    Model Y LR AWD 20" Wheels = £42,330 (4 year warranty)
    Whereas the EV6 & Ioniq 5 are expected to be priced higher than this.
    In summary, if I lived in the USA I would purchase the Model Y.
    However, a Model Y is very poor value for money in UK at this price (Although I expect Tesla are testing the water at this price point and will align their prices with the Kia and Hyundai once they discover that they are not meeting their sales targets).

    • @rossadamdixon
      @rossadamdixon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I got told by a Tesla employee that we most likely won't get the Berlin version. The reason for this is that China will ship RHD models to other nations so they will just change the line from one factory. This also means we won't get rid of the 10% import tax that sits on top of our Tesla's in the UK.

    • @FXlefebure
      @FXlefebure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I debated this, but I decided to pull the trigger and get my Shanghai made Tesla Y (I live in Norway btw):
      1. Like any new production line Tesla’s, the Berlin made Model Y might start with QC faults and other issues. After several years of production, Shanghai-made Model Ys are practically flawless, mine included. It’s become the most sold car in Norway in September; and there are no reports of QC issues. Very impressed with the build quality. I’m afraid that the first Berlin-made Model Ys won’t have the same quality it the start of the production (but that’s ultimately a guess from my personal opinion)
      2. The Berlin-made Model Y might see a price increase once production starts.
      3. Elon Musk reportedly said the Berlin factory won’t start with the 4260 cells (?) batteries, until later in the process.
      Other, more personal reasons:
      4. I needed a car before 2022.
      5. Norway has 0% VAT on new electric vehicles sales, but this will change from January 2022, meaning that getting a Model Y in 2022 will be more expensive than getting one today, at the same price.
      These are my reasons why I didn’t wait for the Berlin Model Y. I might be wrong on some (or all) points, except for the personal reasons which by themselves we’re sufficient for me to get the Model Y. I took the delivery one month ago and I’m extremely happy with it!

    The steering wheel is on the right (left) side of course. Mirrors and steering wheel are easy. You put the setting into your profile and you are done. The car even has ‘easy entry’ which offers the best position for entering and leaving the car. Comparing the driving to a BMW is okay, but that car is way more expensive. The downsides of the Model Y are its looks and its front seats (too short and too little side support).

    I own a Model 3 and Model X. Tesla offers both FOTA and SOFA OTA. Other car manufacturers just dream of both WiFi updates. Plus Tesla offers best super charger stations.. Tesla. enough foresight to build supercharger station as building cars. Most other manufacturers leaving that to taxpayers or private institutions. I own solar panels. I really find myself thinking it really could look more interesting… It just ends up looking basic… Like someone in a white Model 3 who gawps at my Ioniq 5 every time I drive by him on my commute to work. At least BMW made something different in the iX and i4. Don’t get me wrong it’s a passable interior. Tesla seem to have made minimalist look cheap bar that screen though. Also £60+k… Was this not meant to be the “affordable family option”?

    • @bemvey
      @bemvey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree.. The BMW i4 is basically just a 4 series BMW electrified not really different. In fact, it still has a transmission tunnel, even though being fully electric it doesn’t need one, so less space in the rear, plus no storage in the frunk (front trunk). So yeah, not different at all.. By the way, not a BMW hater.. lol.. have owned over 15 BMW’s and my last BMW was a 2017 BMW M3 Competition, currently now have a Tesla Model 3 Stealth Performance.👍🏾

      @@bemvey I really am not a big fan of BMWs either. But in terms of design they have shaken the market up. The Model 3 and Y just look like a car from the present from the front, and 00s from the rear. I really don’t find the rear in particular imaginative in any way or form. If anything it’s very lazy.

    • @benjaminsmith2287

      @@dharminnaik5473 I think the interior and exterior are lazy. The S is a good looking car with a better minimalist interior. But, for the price, it's underwhelming. Polestar 2's minimalist interior looks like they sweated the details. But the big console was a bad idea as well as the bits of piano black. But really, the XPeng 7 and Nio's ET7 are what Tesla's should strive for in terms of modernizing their look.
