Actually, we do. There were a few Polish colonies in both western Africa and eastern South America. We lost them to the Brits after the Partitions and in opposite to other known colonialists we had fantastic relations with the indigenous people especially in Africa.
People often say that the colonies weren't Polish but they were created by the decree of the Polish king made by people who at the time were part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and were lost after Poland was lost so I would polemise their point.

      1. I don't recall any polish colonials, so if you have sources I would really like to see them. I would like to study this topic a litlle bit more, since there absolutly may be sth that I don't know about.
      2. In the end, the truth about it isn't the most important thing - the most imprtamt thing, is interpretation - how people are seeing thigns. In common lnowledge, there is no polish history of colonialism, so as a result it could exist and it wouldn't change anything

Polish colonies: Tobago (South America), Kunta Kinteh - island (Africa), St. Mary's Island (Africa) and a piece of land (in today's Gambia) on the continent (Africa). These are overseas colonies. Moldova (Europe) was also a Polish colony. Additionally, there is also Madagascar, but when it comes to this colony, the topic is a bit complicated (it is better to check the information about this colony yourself).
PS. Poland was the only country that had colonies that gave the native inhabitants of these lands Polish citizenship and did not engage in slavery.

Beside that period Principality of Moldavia supplied soldiers and mercenaries to Polish kings, not slaves. No records in history speak of that. Poland never had any formal colonies and no colonial establishments were finished. There were many attempts, but none of them succeded. Start providing some sources on your bullshit.

When I was 5 years old I asked mom in a tram why this person is other, with pointing on him. It wasn't racist, that was just first time I saw somebody not white. Regarding tolerance, I would like to remind you that you cannot tolerate a person you like. According to the meaning of the word, you can only tolerate those who violate some of your important standards, principles or values. To conclude, a Latin-Polish-English glossary:
Ego tolero -> cierpiąc, znoszę [kogoś, coś], jestem w stanie scierpieć [kogoś, coś] -> I can put up with it, though it pains me.
tolerans -> znoszący, cierpiący [kogoś, coś / z powodu kogoś, czegoś] -> putting up with [sb., sth.], suffering
tolerandus -> do zniesienia, dający się znieść -> being able to put up with.
So tolerance as such does not mean sympathy; on the contrary, it is closely related to consciously withholding or limiting antipathy.

Ouch, you really picked hard one... Lot of slender connections and associations of historical facts.
Teutonic Order (full name Order of the Hospital of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the German House in Jerusalem, where - as you probably noticed - word "German" is important) was brought to Mazovia in 1226 by Konrad of Mazovia, to protect Polish territory from attacks by the Prussians, who were then considered pagans. Over time, the order Christianized the Prussians and took over their lands. He began to attack the surrounding areas that belonged to Polish rulers, as well as the lands of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, all the time claiming that he was fighting pagans, even though the inhabitants of these lands had adopted Christianity. The peak moment of these fights is considered to be the defeat of the Order (which was considered as one of the most strongest military powers in Europe at the time) by the King of Poland, Władysław Jagiełło, and his brother, Prince Witold, the ruler of Lithuania, in battle of Grunwald in 1410. This battle is always recalled when the Poles want to prove their advantage in conflicts with the Germans.
The Bismarck thing (in sketch is mentioned as another moment, when we again kicked ass of Germans - connection with Teutonic Oreder): in 1941, the German battleship Bismarck (one of the largest warships ever built, displacement about 45 000 tons) made its way into the North Sea and later the Atlantic, threatening convoys coming from the United States with supplies to Great Britain. The British Navy formed a team of ships to find the Bismarck and sink. The team included the Polish, small (dsiplacement about 1 800 tons) destroyer ORP Piorun (ORP means Okręt Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej - Warship of Republic of Poland - Polish equivalent of "HMS", "Piorun" means "Thunderbolt"), which was the first to find Bismarck at sea. Instead of notifying the rest of the British ships and retreating, ORP Piorun sent a radio message about finding a German battleship, and then attacked it and engaged in an artillery duel with it for almost an hour while waiting for the main forces. Then British came and sunk the Bismarck.
If British sinks large ships, so they probably are also responsible for sinking of Titanic as well (well... you actually are, crew of Titanic were British ;-)
Gee, longest comment that I ever wrote on TH-cam

Poland is not multi-racial, thanks to our Red, Only Rightful Ruler - KC PZPR (I hope you get the joke).
During the Iron Courtain, Ukrainians were moved to Ukraine, Poles to Poland, German (eastern Prussia) to Germany. Basically, the Stalinism created almost single-nationality states, not to mention the racial side of things.
Then, in 1960's our government wanted to deport the Jews to Israel, so any Jew who would apply for a permanent leave, would get it.
That was almost impossible for normal Poles, who wanted to move to the west and so Jews were separated from communities, which caused them to move out to Israel.
And the self-spinning wheel started. Thirty years after the fall of communism, things are returning to normal, but if you want to see some multi-racialism in Poland, you have to go to a University districts in cities.
I live 5 minutes from the Warsaw University and going up the flood embankment of Vistula, is like a border between that grey Poland to that University's diverse one.
Still, the biggest minority are Asians who study here music and computer science (with exeptions of course).

Interesting points you made. I won't comment on the whole 'racism in Poland' thing because - as I can see - many other people have already explained that. I'll focus on 'women's oppression' real quick. In the old days, men used to provide, fight in wars while risking their lives and women stayed at home to take care of children. I don't think a lot of women would have rather swapped places and risk having their heads cut off or being impaled. Even today not a lot has changed. When the war in Ukraine broke out, women were allowed to leave the country and save their lives. On the other hand, men were stopped at the border and sent to trenches.

The sketch is quite complex despite its simplicity. It may be interpreted as: everyone can be predjudiced to someone. Your skin colour, nationality, gender doesn't matter. No group is above it, which is quite relevant in today discourse that try to push the false claim oppressed groups are excluded somehow, thus unsavory behaviour is justified. Another interpretation is that trying hard not to be offensive has often the opposite result, especially when the recipent is being overly sensitive and see bias everywhere. The result is often a downward spiral of mutual insults and accusations. And of course the sketch takes a Mickey at Poles grousing that everything is someone's else fault because of history XD

0:37 well, so how the hell would you explain to someone that you are not a racist if they were calling you a racist? I am sick of hearing accusations about polish people that we are racists. Majority of us haven't even had a chance to develop such attitude, because many have had nothing to do with people of other color for most of their lives. The usual common attitute in the polish society is curiosity. Of course there are people in Poland like Ogi Ugonoh, who is an antiracism activist, but that is her job to try and find racism everywhere! :D It does not matter to her that in Poland she happens to be the most rasist, but towards white people xD I really find it ridiculous and worrying at the same time. Of course if you have more and more of such "activists" in the country, their constant work on developing racism in Poland will unfortunately eventually "bear fruit"

Yes, there are few black people in Poland. That's becaude we didn't rob half of the world for hundreds of years ;) And seriously, in the 2nd half of 20th century people didn't tend to migrate to eastern countries. Even now, they much prefer Germany, France or UK, just because they are richer. There are some students from around the world and that's it. Not much of them, only in big cities, but certainly more than 20 years ago.

Don't take words exactly! This joke is based on the fact that there is absolutely no racism in Poland (I know it's hard to imagine) the word black is the color of things (not people)out of politeness, we are even afraid to say colored - about human skin, but this African was oversensitive. We have Russophobia, Germanophobia and other phobias mixed in this film in a deliberately absurd combination

Fun stuff about the races in Poland. I live in Warsaw and I often take 2h walks in the southern district. There was a funny moment when in the span of around an hour I walked next to: 2 Nigerians, an Indian couple, three Chinese guys, a few Black guys and a Japanese girl. Not a single white person xD
And it's a fun and nice thing. Lets be good for each other and smile to everyone.

6:36 Cezary Pazura is one of the best Polish actors ever (in my opinion) and even had some stand-ups. In this TV show, he is like Jim Carrey, sort of. I really recommend a Polish comedy titled "Chłopaki nie płaczą" where he plays a gangster. Basically this "old school" Polish humor is a bit absurd, difficult to convey in other languages or cultures ("Chłopaki nie płaczą", "Poranek kojota", "Czas surferów").

"Zawisza Czarny", a Polish knight, had a black beard or hair! In Poland, a black person is a rare exception and quite an attractive representative of the "big world". We do not understand the problems related to racism, we cannot behave appropriately so as not to offend anyone, we behave absurdly, our language is not adapted to racism, we cannot explain that we do not have racist traditions. We have a tradition of phobia of white neighbors. The policeman wants to shoot the German

This episode mocks the entire racism argument, because it starts with every single one of them preparing to invite their incoming guests and not perpetuate the racist stereotype, but the more they try, the more they fail doing so, because they slip unintended racist remarks in their statements, and everyone gets offended by the most minor things, so it quickly escalates beyond limits. This nicely shows how such arguments usually go in real life and why it is stupid, because no one in this scene intended anything wrong from the start :J

You wouldn’t get away with this on the Polish TV now, just like in britain. Times have changed, British shows laughed off more too in the past, like Still Game, Mind Your Language, and that show with Patrick from Eastenders. Poland was just late with such comedy, 10-20 years, as you couldn’t get away with this during communism. And you can’t now. The irony.
It is not just going back just to Germans or Russians, there’s a lot of puns in that clip, and satirizes a stalemate.

In my opinion, you, as an Englishman, shouldn't watch it, because you won't understand the Polish play on words, and therefore - Polish humor from those years. What is funny to us Poles may be perceived as outrageous or even inappropriate for you. We know what times we live in, where there is great political correctness everywhere, so broadcasting this series and this episode for these shitty times will be a great tact and will show us in a bad light, and people will not understand it if they are not Poles. Our sense of humor was shaped by difficult experiences such as communism, Nazi occupation, etc. and we turned it into satire. That's why you English people won't understand it, just like me, for example, I don't understand the Monty Python phenomenon and I won't understand your sense of humor. That's why I don't watch it and I haven't watched it, much less will I comment on it. Big up ✌️

Cezary Pazura tries to be polite in this joke, but he is hampered by language mistakes, every word is a political blunder. We are amused by the combination of words that may or may not be offensive. In Poland they are not offensive, but in the face of racist problems they can suddenly be considered an insult.
