Many thanks Ford Online Parts for this video. The roof bars for my S Max with panoramic sunroof have just arrived only 24 hours after ordering. Fantastic service. I have not fitted this type of roof bars on a vehicle before, so this video is a great relief.
Is it ok to make my own hole with the caps that come with the car? Because I have no idea where to get them from. I think this is such a bad design. It should be a lot easier than this, does anyone else agree? I bought the roof rack bar's from someone, when I got home to fit them on. I thought I had bought the wrong bars or something, until I watched this video. And I just couldn't believe the work and destruction you have to do to your car to install the roof rack, I mean wtf? Come on seriously!! Remove the caps which come with the car, then slice and cut away a silicone sealant under the caps, to get to screwed/pushed in plug, without breaking the top off so be careful removing that. But what gets me that you have to also have 4 replacement caps too lol which comes with pre hole holes in them, so your screw or bolt can fit through it, to fix the bar brackets over the top of it 😞 which I had no clue that you needed. Did anyone else know this or did anyone have the same problem as me, when they found this out when you watched this video too? I guess I could easily make a hole for my screw to fit through, but then if I ever decide to remove my roof rack and take it off, well I will be left with 4 holes in the caps which I made lol decisions? Do I make these holes now myself, as I need to use the roof rack ASAP. Or do I order these pre hole caps and wait. Could someone tell me where I can buy these caps from and how much are they please? Thanks. This is seriously a poor design in my eyes. It should be so much simpler than this in this day of age
Great job but why ford put sealant in there in the first place is beyond me as this can be quite dournting digging out the roof of your brand new car like i had to with a screwdriver anyway thanks for your video hope helps others and save going to halfords to be ripped off with there charges for fitting
Such a poor design this is. So if you are going to buy a roof rack for your ford focus people, i warn you now, that there is a lot of work you have to do to your car first before you can even think about fitting your roof rack to your car. My advice i would take the time to watch this video or one similar to it, because you might get confused and think you have brought the wrong roof rack. And you definitely need a sharp knife for this poor design. For the ridiculous silicone sealant you will have to slice and cut away. Then be very careful removing the screw in plugs you need to pull out under the sealant. Then keep them safe somewhere i suppose. But the most important tip i will give you is, if you are buying a roof rack for your ford focus, make sure you also buy the replacement caps which are pre holed okay 👍 otherwise you will be in a predicament as well haha
If only those screws came out as easily as in this video. Like other people in this video the screw dissintigrates when u try and unscrew . 2x roof rack purchases later and I'm fuming. What a waste of time and money. If I'd have known how difficult it was to fit I'd have never bought the car. Not the best design.

Wow, i have an old 2005 mondeo, amazing that the seal is not broken yet, so glad i found out i can use roof bars on my car!

Do you leave the rack on the car all the time? Or put it on and take off as needed?
I had to turn the sound off as the music distracted and made it hard to hear the speaking. Luckily it didn't need the sound.

I have a US spec Focus and it doesn't have these removable caps. It's just one long solid piece. I can remove it but there's no mounting holes.

liamshawmma Yeah... you have to buy a roof rack kit from a ford dealer and it will come with new ones that you replace yourself :)

No only the petrol, the diesel has wider roofbars as the tardation factor is tripled
