  • 5 minute job unless you've got stuck plastic blocking bolts. The trick is to carefully drill them out. I show the process in reverse as it's easier to understand that way. You can fast forward through much of it. Tools required, electric drill, drill bit, bradawl, no 5 Allen Key. WD40, Fitting Roof Bars.
    Remember to refill the wells after removing the roof racks I used grease but I guess putty would be better.
    Roof Bars are suitable for most roof boxes. Our box sits flat on the roofbars The roof box should be supplied with 4 U Bolts which grip the roof box to the roof bars. The u-bolts poke up through holes in the floor of the roof box then clamps inside the box hold them tightly in place. My tip don't clamp them too tight straight away, wait until all four are in place then make sure the box is correctly aligned. Then tighten all four.
    Going on vacation/holiday then please remember to get your roof bars fitted as early as possible or do a dry run you don't want to be panicking a few hours before your departure. if you do a dry run the second time fitting really will only take 10 minutes.

      Halfords. There seem to be dozens of different types you may have more luck on eBay. The main problem is that Roof racks don't seem to be official parts

    I have a 2007 focus mk2, exactly the same fixpoint boltholes as in your video. They have never been used (were still sealed with silver paint when i got the car). I drilled out the silver paint / plastic whatever it was bolthole cap, i now can see the boltholes. But the thule roofbar bolts only go in so far, don't seem to screw in / latch on to a thread AT ALL, and then just turn round and round uselessly. Do you think a garage could "refurbish" the boltholes with a tap or something so that i can screw in the 4 bolts ?

      Geoff, is it possible that you have different threads? have you experimented by finding a (any) bolt in your garage that fits that way you can verify that the threads in the roof of your ford are still OK.

      @geoffnicholls181 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowToVideosAndTips yes I tried different widths, its more like the holes / thread is damaged, not working right. What width are thule bolts? M6?

      Also do you know, would a car mechanic / garage have the "tap" I think it's called, regardless the appropriate tool to create a working threaded hole at each 4 fixpoints?

      I would guess that a smaller backstreet garage could help.

      I just plugged the holes with gunge (grease) and that keeps the water out. I've just Googled 'Ford Focus plastic Plugs for Gutterless Roof Rack ' and find a lot of people grumbling. Imagine how bad this problem would be if you wanted to fit your roofrack a few hours before your ferry sailing. Of course you need all four fixing points to work of you have nothing!!

    Mate, this video is not as bad as the design itself. lol don't get me wrong when I try to remake the same video, trying to explain how to do this, I will most likely start and stutter myself haha 😂 but that's ok because I'm used to that, as I have never been good at explaining something but showing someone is a different story. I've always been better at that instead. And I'm sure you done your best, but I think you are trying to concentrate more on explaining what its all about, rather than focusing the camera more clearly and showing people a good view on what you are on about lad lol no offense 😅👍but I can hardly see what you are going on about because you are either too close or too blurry. Also I would like to point out one thing to everyone who watches this video. The silicone seal underneath the quick release cap, you only have to cut a 2cm slice on either side of the plug hole in the middle, which you are able to feel with your blade before cutting. So just leave the rest on. You will find it was just a waste of time stripping the whole seal off. Plus it looks neat.
