Btw sorry if there are any weird lil visual quirks in this vid, I noticed one or two but this game is just really awkward to record for some reason lmao

This is the gold standard of April Fools content. It's simultaneously EXACTLY what I'm at your channel for (serious mechanical analysis), and complete and utter nonsense (Insaniquarium)
Insaniquarium be like: Patch 1.420 Notes - Reduced Rhubarb's pushback on larger fish - Increased Presto's transformation cooldown by 3000F - Adjusted Shrapnel's Bomb hitbox so that it doesn't hit fishes above him - Wadsworth's EX Swallow now protects carnivorous fish - Adjusted Clyde's model to include a black outline
@@BigYellowSilly fuck it why not add a nuke? how about a nuke fish? feed it radioactive food that makes it explode huger! if damaged will explode killing any enemy and friendlies nearby and wont be hurt by it's own explosions.
Hey I really appreciate the video! For anyone wondering, I currently hold most of the world records for Insaniquarium so I just want to give my input. Overall your analysis is pretty spot on. Here are some extras to add: Prego is also pretty bad. She gives birth to a new guppy once in a while, but a guppy is just worth $100. If you do the math, not only is she a bad money making pet, but she forces you to have guppies instead of money. And after your first few guppies, having another guppy is actually a net negative since you have to feed it. Zorf in speedruns is only optimal if you haven't unlocked a better money making pet yet. Zorf gives level 2 food which is the best one, but Zorf also waits for your fish to go into the "starve" state (turning green) before feeding, which is the worst possible timing in terms of fish growth speed. Having Zorf is still better than paying $5 every time you want to drop a level 1 food, but having a good money making pet instead is just better. Zorf in tank 4 is actually god-tier, but it's only because of an exploit with the game's RNG system, and not because Zorf's ability is actually that useful. Brinkley generates a lot of money "on average" (more than Shrapnel, I believe), but it's deceiving. He takes forever to actually drop the treasure chest or pearls, even assuming you feed him perfectly fast (which you won't). So on any decently fast level, Brinkley is just a bad version of a money maker. The best pet strategy, once you unlock them all, is to use Walter + Amp + Angie (known as Wampgie). Walter punches Amp to activate his electricity, then you can use Amp to zap all your guppies to turn them into $200 diamonds. Angie saves the fish so they're ready to be zapped again. Peak Insaniquarium is an absolute bloodbath.
Thanks so much for the insight! I never considered the issue of Zorf waiting so long to feed your fish tbh, and I never heard about the RNG exploit in Tank 4, that's pretty wild. Nice to hear that my Brinkley hate is justified too
RNG manipulation is a whole can of worms. Basically once you boot up the game, you can predictably influence the RNG of the game depending on how you navigate the menus. This lets you set up pet positions, fish growth rates, drop rates, etc. for faster runs. You just have to reset the game after every level. Why is Zorf important? You lose control of the RNG once you click anything in the level, but I need to click to feed my fish. Since Zorf feeds on his own, he lets the level play out a bit longer without any of my clicks, so the RNG stays controlled. Zorf feeds the breeder in tank 4, and I can guarantee my first guppy will be a fast-growing guppy. After the guppy is born, I can start clicking.
"Clyde doesn't have a black outline" Cut my boy some slack, he can't help being transluscent. I love it when people take April Fool's to talk about weird crap they'd never talk about otherwise.
This game is a Certified Hood Classic. I remember my aunt buying this game for around 20$ from Popcap back in 2003. Saw it on Steam about 18 years later for 5$ and had to get it. Still fun to go back to here and there! Also that Tank 2 music is heavenly. Thanks for talking about this gem of a game! 💎
Unironically my eyes are being opened to all the references plants vs zombies made to this. From stinky to the aquarium being the water plant garden to even the sound effect for picking up money being in both.
i had no idea the zombiquarium minigame was basically just a clone of this. zombiquarium is one of my favorite minigames. i think i just found a new obsession.
the stranglehold popcap had on this 'casual-strategy' genre of game was unparalleled. insanaquarium, pvz, peggle, plus feeding frenzy, bejeweled, heavy weapon and more. they hardly ever missed
I kinda take presto less as its own pet and more just being an upgrade to one of your pet slots that lets you change that slot's fish at will. So to me they more make fish *more* viable/good (by allowing them to be switched out when they're no longer useful) than making them redundant. Though that's ultimately a perspective thing I suppose, since in a literal sense they are their own fish.
Some of these pets, while not so useful in the main game, are VERY useful for earning money in the virtual pet tank during screen saver mode. Notably, Preggo, Zorf, the money collectors, and even Brinkly, for dropping stars
“A small part of my audience would know about this game” Me; gods strongest insaniaquarium player: hm what an interesting video lets see what they have to say
This reminds me of discussions on unit usefulness in Fire Emblem games. Talking about not only their individual usefulness, but also their availability and niches
Forde is cool, frick you mekkah. Also Eirika isn't really that bad bc you can give her all of the kills in chapter 1 and most of the kills in chapter 2 and she's basically a better character after that.
@@aigis9474 It's also always good to keep in mind story availability since some units will get fucked by the story and youll end up having used all your resources for a unit that wont be there for a pivotal moment in story mode. An easy thing that people tend to make a mistake on is using all of their resources on Sigurd for example in his respective game for obvious reasons.
10:10 You forgot to mention how unberable are Ulysses' (the cyclops) projectiles, if you don't want to lose a fish (like a Beetlemuncher, specially in Challenge mode) you have to click over the projectile to "deflect" the ball, but this "activates" it meaning any fish that comes near the ball dies, which becomes very challenging when you already have a lot of fishes in the tank
Honestly I wish more April fool’s day stuff was like this. Everyone else wants to just go “hahaha trust issues day” and it makes everything annoying. I rather everyone just do parodies of their normal material.
the best april fools videos are the ones that still stand out as quality work even when the joke holiday is over. Great stuff. Wouldnt mind you doing quirky one off videos like this more often. Found you through the pokemon stuff, stayed for the fighting games. Your analyses are just fun to listen to.
Stinky/Clyde and Zorf are useful in Virtual Tank as part of auto farming setups, those being the easiest way to fund the bonus pets and upgrades for things like speedrunning without just downloading a save file. Even still, I hold Virtual Tank in the same regard as something like speedrunning, and the amount of shells needed for high end fish in that mode is pretty intensive as well. Also Rhubarb is even worse than you gave credit for, considering you can literally right click to tap the glass of the fish tank and influence nearby fish to move away from that area. Fantastic video, love this game.
Btw, the other way Zorf is useful is if you have the screensaver set up. He will feed your fish for you so that they will produce shells more. Also where Stinky, Prego, and Clyde shine. Stinky and Clyde since they are your only options for collecting shells. Prego shines when you have piranhas, she acts as a food source for them.
I watch FrameRater because I never know what he's going to talk about next. I wouldn't even be sad if you made an offball video like this every month. Game mechanics are my favorite thing about video games and having someone discuss and break them down is something I could do all day, regardless of the game or genre.
Same! A logical breakdown of what separates characters in certain games is inherently interesting regardless of topic. Keep up the good work, @Big Yellow
I love how you covered Zorfs application. As a kid I never did any speed running, but the worst part about playing a lot of insane aquarium was getting the ball rolling at the start and growing the guppies ASAP.
Seeing anything related to Insaniquarium gives me some dopamine. Another pet I'd mark as one of the worst is Nimbus. His bouncing up coins and food is pretty meaningless compared to Clyde just collecting the coins and Seymour slowing coins way down. Not to mention, Nimbus often just hyperfocuses on one single coin while all the others fall down into the sands below. He can kinda combo well with Seymour, I guess, but you're better off using a different pet and clicking the coins yourself. Or better yet, just use Clyde in his place.
I will say, if you're able to get the Screensaver working, Zorf will feed your fish in the virtual tank, allowing you to make really good passive income over time
Was Messing around with Brinkly and found out he triggers Zorfs ability which means its possible to potentially have a fish come in and eat it before they go green meaning you can potentially make the fish bigger even faster. also means Zorf uses his ability a bit more often.
Funny how this game uses aliens as enemies, considering that Plants VS Zombies, another game by PopCap, was originally about plants battling aliens. Good to see that PopCap games are connected by those little details
Played this as a kid and it still holds up to this day. It's insane the overlap between my interests and this channel. Melee, Smogon, Fighting games, and now insaniquariom
This game was my first PC game, and maybe the first real video game I got as a kid. It feels so surreal that people are still talking about this obscure little game. Fantastic video, thank you so much for the nostalgia :’D
Insaniquarium Deluxe is one of my all time childhood favorite games, so I unironically love this video to death. Can't wait for Fish Game Gold in 2023 :)
that is so funny that you made a vid about this because I randomly just HAD to play this game less than a year ago and played through the entire thing. bless you.
I still hold an unreasonable amount of love for this game in my heart. I am delighted to know a speed-running community exists! I played very casually, but I remember Blip being high tier. I could never grind enough to get all the bonus pets at once. ; w ;
This game is so nostalgic for me. Me and my mom would play it together on the family desktop when I was seven or eight, and for years we had a disc or something of it so each new computer we got we could put it on it. We lost it when I was around 12 but last year I was able to get it on Steam and relive the happiness. It gives me such a comfy warm feeling when I play it, reminds me of when I would crowd behind my mom and get excited while she played. I remember it took us ages to get the bonus pets and each time she got one we would get so excited. This game is the best. Also, really love the video, it’s hilarious!!
This game will always hold a special place in my heart for the fact that when I played through it in a discord call to a group on incredibly intoxicated people we all lost our minds when preggo the fish dropped. that was possibly the most intense hype I've felt in my life
Seymour actually is great if you also have Shrapnel since it slows down the bomb (that I inevitably forget about). The only downside is if you have a starcatcher level, it'll either help you or be a detriment based off how much star production is happening (I had the mermaid spam the stars with only 4 star guppies and Seymour slows it down enough that they hang out on the floor for a while, allowing starcatchers to kinda feed and hang around a spot)
BRO!! I LOVE this game!! My grandma and I used to okay it all the time when I was a little kid and she still plays it! I have such fond memories of this game
I played Insaniquarium so much, love this breakdown of the usefulness of the pets. But how could you say Rhubarb is low tier when he's the cutest pet in the game?
I was watching the SM64 Waluigi video and you said 'Insaniquarium video' and I nearly had breakdown as I haven't heard anyone talk about this game passively in ages. lol Truly the best subscription I've ever made. lol
One of my favorite childhood games, thanks for bringing it up as a topic in 2022! I haven't seen your other videos (yet) but seeing your analysis here made me happy. This and the RCT (Rollercoaster Tycoon) franchise (Specifically 1 and 2) are my favorite banger old PC games and I love seeing them get a spotlight even if it's for an April Fools video.
Yes! Insaniquarium is so damn well made and I even have thr cd around here somewhere from my childhood. I need to buy it again probably but it's like a clicker game with gameplay which makes my mind fuzzy. Also somehow didn't notice you got all fine up nails till nearly the end, nice colors dudeski
Definitely late to the party on this one, but Rhubarb has the very funny distinction of being the 11th best pet for idling in the virtual tank. After upgrading your tank to max, you get the ability to have 11 pets simultaneously, which makes Rhubarb part of the optimal build for maxing out on shells
WAIT I KNOW THIS GAME IT WAS ON MY PARENTS' COMPUTER WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, I TOTALLY FORGOT THIS EXISTED UNTIL I SAW THIS IN MY RECOMMENDED FEED OH MY GOD
Clyde is ironically slower and clumsier which means he takes a lot of time maneuvering through the tank and likely to not collect anything at all, he is better when the tank is crowded or you have an awkward feeding chain like in tanks 3-4
what the fuck is wrong with me im trying to watch this video but i keep pausing because every 2 minutes i’ll remember “fish game garbage” and start cackling
I knew I heard some later tank music in the background of one of your other videos... Absolutely delightful game. Final boss breaks my hand worse than abstaining for 2 and a half weeks, but you know :3
Holy crap this unlocked a lost childhood memory of when I was on a 10 hour trans Atlantic flight and I spent the whole time playing this game on the glitchy built-in tv screens
11:06 ah yes. I know that pet loadout all too well. Makes the first 2 tanks a joke and then some of the others at time. Had this on the physical disc as a kid. I quickly found out you could install this on any computer as many times as you like. Obviously I "loaned" this game to all my friends.
Oh my gosh this video has unlocked hidden memories. I used to play this game on some game browser that worked like an “arcade” and I had to (well my parents had to) buy coins to play games like this. I used to play this one so much
YESS finally someone else who remembers this game. i don't even know how many hours i spent just playing and replaying all the levels as a kid. i actually remember liking and using wadsworth a lot. i guess 5 year old me didn't like seeing my fish get eaten, so having him shield all the guppies made the alien battles way less stressful.
Good god this recommendation is hitting me with childhood memories of playing the OG insaniqarium on the Plam Pilot in the early 2000's when I lived in Italy on a naval base, and went to the Highschools computer lab after 1st/2nd grade ends for the day, waiting for my mom to finish her assistant work.
Honestly since I've barely played Street Fighter yet I still watch your SF videos. It's honestly a pretty close feeling of confusion yet entertainment when I'm watching your SF videos
You've neglected mentioning Virtual Tank mode. Stinky and Clyde are valuable for farming money on it while leaving the game idle on screensaver mode for Virtual Tank.
The problem with Gumbo is that he's a double-edged sword. Wadsworth is indeed good if you're a new player, because he at least ensures that you will always have surviving fish, effectively making losing impossible. Gumbo lures all your fish in one spot, and they can just get projectile murdered all at once, or chomped by one fast alien in a flash if you're not careful, since Gumbo will be maneuvering them around the tank depending what you and the alien are doing. Accidents do happen, especially in the last tank with Bilaterus. Great video! Loved this game as a kid.
Wadsworth has one use however, When I was younger I had separate saves where its just the Alien in the Tank with Wadsworth making the smaller ones invincible, so its like I was taking care of an entire ass alien in my tank.
Btw sorry if there are any weird lil visual quirks in this vid, I noticed one or two but this game is just really awkward to record for some reason lmao
Can we have a full breakdown of all the pets? I think this vid could be cool

I know right I was like “is his audience infants???” I can’t imagine growing up without pop cap
Can't wait for Fish Game Gold in 2023 :)
that is so funny that you made a vid about this because I randomly just HAD to play this game less than a year ago and played through the entire thing. bless you.
I still hold an unreasonable amount of love for this game in my heart. I am delighted to know a speed-running community exists! I played very casually, but I remember Blip being high tier. I could never grind enough to get all the bonus pets at once. ; w ;
This is one of few games where you have memories playing it but you didn't know how you get it in the first place
You're so right I had no idea where it came from when I was younger
Oh hey between this and fate I've found where all my afternoons went as a kid
I love hearing about obscure niche games like this, it doesn’t need to be April fools day.
13:58 mind you, Gumbo once lead a suicide train towards an alien I'm fighting. I instantly lost. I never use him again since
Came for the cute April Fools' Day review; stayed for actual footage of Big Yellow.
Ngl just talking about a cool chill game is all I could ask for on april first
I used to LOVE playing this game at my grandma's as a kid when I visited. Played it again last year, still loved it.
BRO!! I LOVE this game!! My grandma and I used to okay it all the time when I was a little kid and she still plays it! I have such fond memories of this game
I am very invested in insane aquarium speedrunning so no we know what's up my man
I loved this game as a kid, I've noticed you've been using music from this game before. Glad to see a video on it 😊
I played Insaniquarium so much, love this breakdown of the usefulness of the pets. But how could you say Rhubarb is low tier when he's the cutest pet in the game?
Oh for cuteness he's top tier easy he's just a funny little guy in a funny little shell
I was watching the SM64 Waluigi video and you said 'Insaniquarium video' and I nearly had breakdown as I haven't heard anyone talk about this game passively in ages. lol Truly the best subscription I've ever made. lol
I grew up playing Insaniquarium! I had so much fun taking care of my fish and defending them from the aliens... Good memories. :)
I've been waiting FOUR EV ER for you to talk about the Insane aquarium deluxe meta
What the hell looking at video unlocked childhood memories of spending hours playing the demo of this game
what the fuck is wrong with me im trying to watch this video but i keep pausing because every 2 minutes i’ll remember “fish game garbage” and start cackling
i played this so much as a kid but I completely forgot about the name and stuff and couldn't find it, I've finally found the best game ever again
I knew I heard some later tank music in the background of one of your other videos... Absolutely delightful game. Final boss breaks my hand worse than abstaining for 2 and a half weeks, but you know :3
Even when you’re not talking about Street Fighter or Pokémon, your analysis stuff is very entertaining
Holy crap this unlocked a lost childhood memory of when I was on a 10 hour trans Atlantic flight and I spent the whole time playing this game on the glitchy built-in tv screens
It’s 1:02 AM but this is way more important ngl.
11:06 ah yes. I know that pet loadout all too well. Makes the first 2 tanks a joke and then some of the others at time. Had this on the physical disc as a kid. I quickly found out you could install this on any computer as many times as you like. Obviously I "loaned" this game to all my friends.
Further proof that pre-EA PopCap was based enough to trust kids with DRM free games
dude this game was so elusive to me. As a kid I didn't know many websites and had no idea how to find this game
Back when PopCap was the king of pc games...
Yoo this game was my childhood.. never beat it though, them aliens got hands
Oh my gosh this video has unlocked hidden memories. I used to play this game on some game browser that worked like an “arcade” and I had to (well my parents had to) buy coins to play games like this. I used to play this one so much
Look, this might just be an April Fool's day video, but this is unionically one of my favorite games of all time soo.... I ain't complaining
Good god this recommendation is hitting me with childhood memories of playing the OG insaniqarium on the Plam Pilot in the early 2000's when I lived in Italy on a naval base, and went to the Highschools computer lab after 1st/2nd grade ends for the day, waiting for my mom to finish her assistant work.
this is the TRUE Big Yellow video i have been waiting for all my lifetime!
Honestly since I've barely played Street Fighter yet I still watch your SF videos. It's honestly a pretty close feeling of confusion yet entertainment when I'm watching your SF videos
Can't wait to see the in depth Gold analysis next year for Spectrobes on the DS
You just unlocked a hidden memory I had of playing the hell out of this game as a very very young child lol
You've neglected mentioning Virtual Tank mode. Stinky and Clyde are valuable for farming money on it while leaving the game idle on screensaver mode for Virtual Tank.
I might mention that if I ever do a second vid, I love the virtual tank honestly
do you know how FUCKING HAPPY I AM THAT YOU MADE THIS. FUCK. I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS GAME SINCE I WAS 6. FUCK. I LOVE THIS. THANK GOD.
Insaniquarium was made by popcap and was the predecessor to one of the most legendary games in history, plants vs. zombies.
I don't know when tf I played this but I recognize it
Oh man I haven't played Insaniquarium in so long. Now I want to pull up my copy again.
Wadsworth has one use however, When I was younger I had separate saves where its just the Alien in the Tank with Wadsworth making the smaller ones invincible, so its like I was taking care of an entire ass alien in my tank.
lmao nostalgia on the timeline for april fools, i played this game way too much as a kid
It's honestly so cool seeing everyone collectively feel nostalgic for this game you love to see it
I already knew all of this stuff before watching the video, but I was still like "YOOO" when I saw this in the sub feed.
