I really hope this video holds up and was worth the wait! I don't see myself taking on a video of this scale again for quite some time, admittedly I wasn't having fun by the end of it, and having so many other ideas for things pop into my head while I had to focus on this was killer. Expect some smaller scale sillier stuff in the future, I think I've earned a 20 minute video on one move or a video ranking NU mons based on how they'd behave in an airport if their flight was delayed. Glad to see how well this turned out, going through RBY's source code is definitely not the easiest thing in the world (and I definitely made some mistakes with my first analysis of the code) but mistakes like that happen. I want to give a huge shoutout to the community at pret that put in the herculean amount of effort to disassemble the code so I could even begin to try finding these results in the first place, and to the people in the speedrunning discord that caught and corrected my initial mistakes when trying to do a deep dive on this. When I have time later, I'd like to look at other random events (like the number of wrap turns and the number of times a multihit move hits) and see how they are affected by the RNG being weird (mainly in terms of damage rolls), but I think I've gone through the most important ones that I could find. If anyone has any questions about how the RNG works, feel free to ask me and I'll try to respond whenever I can.
Following the Rise, the Fall, the further Falling, and now the dubious Big Rise of Victreebel through your RBY videos has been my favorite running narrative. With these breakdowns I love seeing where that crazy pitcher plant has ended up each time.

I'd love to see a video on the history of the Little Three. From their formation as a vague idea around 2016(when Eggy started to show cracks in the Post-Body Slam world and Lapras's massive fall from grace gave Starmie an opening to get into the Top 6) and fully solidified as a 'thing' by 2020 as their spots were proven solid and the Big Four officially died. It's a story of Alakazam's remarkable stability, Eggy's rise and fall and then rise again, and Starmie's slow steady crawl upwards to the point she's starting to threaten Chansey and the Big 3.

My favorite thing about OU Dugtrio is how much higher its crit rate feels than it actually is. Being nothing but an electric immune revenge killer feels a lot less bad when Dugtrio gets Tauros's blessing and randomly muscles through an otherwise out of range target

Zapdos is so funny to me because it has the stats and matchup spread of a top 3 threat, and by all rights plays like one, but it has one matchup that's so bad it completely tanks it's ranking to 6 instead. Zapdos is just completely fucked against Rhydon, it's best move is like an 8HKO, Ryhdon is immune to it's status, and gets the easiest 2HKO of its life while also being able to use it as setup fodder. It's probably the worst matchup between any of the OU mons. Even in something like Surf Starmie vs Rhydon, Starmie is deathly scared of switching into body slam, and stab EQ from 130 attack does a sizable chunk as well. Against Rhydon, Zapdos has literally nothing. No funky coverage move it can run, attack that does more than 15%, or status move to annoy it with. It's up there with Gen 3 Breloom vs Celebi, Gen 8 Kartana vs Buzzwole, Gen 4 Quagsire vs Kyogre, Gen 8 Quagsire vs Zacian (yes he really does make this list twice, literally the only Ubers physical attackers who beat him were Zekrom and Kyurem Black), and Gen 8 Heatran vs Volcorona as the most stifling, one sided matchups in OU (and Ubers for the dreaded Quag).

You know, in all these Gen 1 OU videos, you virtually never hear anything about Tauros when talking about any mon other than Tauros itself, despite being the defacto best mon in the tier. I think it really goes to show how dominating it is that just about EVERYTHING loses to Tauros, so doing nothing to help the matchup is expected. Snorlax, Chansey, and Starmie are downright stifling to unique, out there strategies because they're so specific in what can beat them and if you can't beat them, you're in tough shit. Not Tauros, it's deathly afraid of paralysis and is by a mile the least likely to regain health throughout a match, so chip damage is far more meaningful. Despite all that, Tauros is the undisputed number 1. It is one of the single most consistent ways to make progress in the game state while also being THE win condition. The only reason Tauros isn't completely omnipresent in the mid game is because of how good it is late game. Snorlax is an M1 Abrams can take and deal a bunch of damage, but Tauros is a ballistic missile. If you want to take down a target, you want the missile.
I love the phrase "it's not a Pokemon you would like to have to put on your team" because it's the perfect way to describe my feelings on Dachsbun in PokeRogue.

I'd love to see a video on the history of the Little Three. From their formation as a vague idea around 2016(when Eggy started to show cracks in the Post-Body Slam world and Lapras's massive fall from grace gave Starmie an opening to get into the Top 6) and fully solidified as a 'thing' by 2020 as their spots were proven solid and the Big Four officially died. It's a story of Alakazam's remarkable stability, Eggy's rise and fall and then rise again, and Starmie's slow steady crawl upwards to the point she's starting to threaten Chansey and the Big 3.

Also it's been said so many times but the little sprite edits and animations and the way you talk about mons like characters and not just, like, a set of stats, types, and moves? It's one of my favourite things about your Pokemon vids. The whole segment of honourable Sandslash vs dishonourable Victreebel was my favourite example of that. It's fun to think of competitive RBY as a little world and not just, like... numbers and words and pngs
So sad that keldo travelled back in time to kill chansey, but its a worthy sacrifice to prevent the rise of stall, thus preventing Galarian Wooper from going to the dark side.
My favorite thing about OU Dugtrio is how much higher its crit rate feels than it actually is. Being nothing but an electric immune revenge killer feels a lot less bad when Dugtrio gets Tauros's blessing and randomly muscles through an otherwise out of range target

Zapdos is so funny to me because it has the stats and matchup spread of a top 3 threat, and by all rights plays like one, but it has one matchup that's so bad it completely tanks it's ranking to 6 instead. Zapdos is just completely fucked against Rhydon, it's best move is like an 8HKO, Ryhdon is immune to it's status, and gets the easiest 2HKO of its life while also being able to use it as setup fodder. It's probably the worst matchup between any of the OU mons. Even in something like Surf Starmie vs Rhydon, Starmie is deathly scared of switching into body slam, and stab EQ from 130 attack does a sizable chunk as well. Against Rhydon, Zapdos has literally nothing. No funky coverage move it can run, attack that does more than 15%, or status move to annoy it with. It's up there with Gen 3 Breloom vs Celebi, Gen 8 Kartana vs Buzzwole, Gen 4 Quagsire vs Kyogre, Gen 8 Quagsire vs Zacian (yes he really does make this list twice, literally the only Ubers physical attackers who beat him were Zekrom and Kyurem Black), and Gen 8 Heatran vs Volcorona as the most stifling, one sided matchups in OU (and Ubers for the dreaded Quag).

I love your Pokemon videos and this one easily takes the cake. It's so fun seeing you excited about developments on such an old game because you're right, it's astounding that to this day there's STILL new quirks being found in this ROM that has been hacked and reverse engineered so many times, or the metagame with a historically fixed aging.

Honestly, I love just listening to Gen 1 OU, and I really find it interesting.
The lighting and outfit make it seem like this is the start of the Big Yellow villain arc, and I for one am signing up day one for their minion program.
"Every Chansey-less team revealed all six Pokemon" is more of a brag than it seems, because it implies, among other things "Every team that had Chansey had cause to bring it out".
You know, in all these Gen 1 OU videos, you virtually never hear anything about Tauros when talking about any mon other than Tauros itself, despite being the defacto best mon in the tier. I think it really goes to show how dominating it is that just about EVERYTHING loses to Tauros, so doing nothing to help the matchup is expected. Snorlax, Chansey, and Starmie are downright stifling to unique, out there strategies because they're so specific in what can beat them and if you can't beat them, you're in tough shit. Not Tauros, it's deathly afraid of paralysis and is by a mile the least likely to regain health throughout a match, so chip damage is far more meaningful. Despite all that, Tauros is the undisputed number 1. It is one of the single most consistent ways to make progress in the game state while also being THE win condition. The only reason Tauros isn't completely omnipresent in the mid game is because of how good it is late game. Snorlax is an M1 Abrams can take and deal a bunch of damage, but Tauros is a ballistic missile. If you want to take down a target, you want the missile.
I'm glad so many people are giving Sandslash the love it deserves recently.
I love the phrase "it's not a Pokemon you would like to have to put on your team" because it's the perfect way to describe my feelings on Dachsbun in PokeRogue.
