I bought a cheaper KinHank console with similar issues. They didn’t bother me. I put the games I want in the Favorites folder and stick to that - with 550+ games I love and am thrilled to play and will be occupied by for a long time. I replaced the PSone roms I want to play with music. I liked having Japanese and American and even some fan-patched versions (my wife is Japanese and I speak it). I primarily use my USB Switch controller instead of the battery-powered Dual Shock-offs - which are okay. Super Console X2 Pro was well worth $30 for me. Heck, if all it did was play Snatcher, Blazing Lazers, Perfect Dark and Astro Boy GBA, I’d be happy. That doesn’t discount your criticism. I just am thrilled with my purchase for what it does right: play a ton of great games from a ton of systems in one little device on my TV with emulator QOL updates.
I have one of these (found for $80 usd) and all the problems you stated are true. Lucky, I could fix a lot of the problems by changing a few config files. It is an inconvenience and shouldn't have to be done on a "plug and play". It plays pretty smooth after the tinkering and worth the $80 spent on it. But if you can find it for cheap ($80 or under) and know how to mess with retro emulation, try it out. If you don't know/care how to tweak it (which you should not have to tweak anything if they did their job) try to find something better. For the $130 they are asking for it you can buy a handheld with HDMI out and get a better experience.
Great and honest review Restalgia! I had a similar experience with them, they asked me to delete my video after bringing up much the same points (there have been other companies, some even texting me to take them down). Yeah,...no. It's important for consumers to know what they are buying, that's the whole point of creating a review. Much respect for staying firm and doing the right thing.
All of these consoles are basically the same older hardware and will barely run anything past PS 1 era, my advice is get a Pandora, they tend to only run up to the same era but do it the best. Great video.
It's about price point The ones that are like $100+ are way over priced for the hardware you're getting but if you can find good deals they're worth it, I just found a Console X Max for $40 from an Ebay seller and that's perfectly fine for something that can run up to N64 (as long as you install a stand alone N64 emulator on the Android side)

I do own several products from Kin Hank and other vendors (love my retro games) and found that most everyone does this same type of shenanigans. Games not launching, if only a couple of titles, isn't a big deal. Poor performance is. I understand that these things happen when Emulec/Batocera/name your OS gets updated but at some point extra QA should be performed. My biggest gripe is the ROMs without background music. Why in the world would anyone be so anal about copyrights with a product such as this? Will I keep buying Kin Hank products, probably but will do so with the expectation that I will need to do a lot of tweaking if I want more than 75% of my games fully working.
They told me the reason for the audio tracks being removed was due to "performance". Copyright would not make any sense considering the whole device screams piracy. The audio tracks would be a wild line to draw. I appreciate your feedback 😊
I've had one version or another of this system for 3years. I agree with your assessment completely. That being said i do really enjoy what does work properly on the console very much and 90% works just fine. I paid $80 for mine and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for the video
I have an older $80 one and I definitely had the exact same problems. I was especially disappointed with the PS1 games missing background music, which I'm glad you mentioned. I brought it up on one of their videos and they responded but apparently haven't done anything about it, which tells me they probably don't care. I even loaded up Silent Hill and it wasn't even the full game, just some Brazil demo. I can also confirm that a lot of the arcade games crash and reset the system. Crazy that they have released more expensive "updated" devices since then that still have the same problems. It's like they aren't even trying.

I think it is correct to mention that the device has certain limits due to the price, as it is very cheap from Ali Express, and not to focus on high-performance games only. The pros and cons must be mentioned alike. But their changing the sounds of the games is very bad. They must play the games in the original versions
Just bought it, I plug it but no games are shown. It present me a screen of playstore app, youtube app, Godzilla and some other apps I do not know what are they. Can someone tell me how to set up and have the games please. The seller does not respond

all the problems are in the memory card, it must be rewritten to a high-quality company through a card reader, and also set the screen settings to a lower resolution of 360/480, as for the TV for which the kinescopes are designed!
They've just grabbed a complete ROMset off some torrent site and dumped the whole lot on the device. There are sometimes very slight differences in revisions Etc. but it's such a miniscule different 99% of the people wouldn't even notice, let alone care. But it is a waste of space, could have been used to put a few more PS1 games on there. But I've seen worse, I've had Famiclones where they've paid lo little notice to the games, a lot of them are super offensice ROM hacks, like the main character is naked or all the enemies have been turned into racial stereotypes.

I do understand how you feel Ive played with two of those and most copy of the emuelec or the firmware breaks random things. The sound issue is just some things that are broken in the .cfg or the .bin . If your lucky enough and use come propper gameboost app that do optimize for real your configurations files (to the risk of f*cking everythings up) well it do plays all those games very well. But as said, it shouldnt be part of the consumer experience. And Yes obviously to much doubles!
Some questions about this device: Can you connect it to a PC and tinker with the roms? I have modded my PS Classic for example, so could I just delete everything they have in this and load up my own roms? Also, is there any way to play the device with a USB controller, such as the ones that come with the PS Classic? Odd questions for somebody that owns a PS Classic I suppose, but I'm always keeping an eye out for another device that can do this kind of thing in the event that my PS Classic dies someday. Thanks!
So in short, yes you can connect to pc over wifi, and yes you can use other USB controllers. While I was testing I ended up switching to an Xbox controller because the ones that came with it were so bad. If you end up fussing around with the roms and customizing it, you may end up being better just getting a pi 4, with a cool case of amazon instead. The value this device has is as a simple plug and play device but since they did a bad job on software, it kinda fails at that.
At $130 id be pissed, now that its at $60 on aliexpress I would be a lot more forgiving. I bought the X2 a couple years ago as the games I wanted to play were the older ones.
I got a x3 plus for cheap $61 not bad I knew it would have problems it's ok for the price but yeah I got complaints, so iam getting the kinhank x5 pro 🔥 it's the best , only a mini PC can top it or a 12tb

Hi Dude, I agree with most of what your saying my friend, But It's not just these Guys there are many Companies that are doing the same thing, Games that don't work, Or Run like a pile of dung, I have 6 of these Boxes and all though they are really good at what they do, you always find games that don't work, Or they are super Laggy, And It's usually Nintendo 64 Stuff that don't run right. LOL these pre-modded boxes are a joke. The chipset and RAM are solid to build a great setup if you know what you're doing. I've done a barcade and a digital pinball machine with TV boxes and they run great. Again, you need to know what you're doing with these.

By watching a channel that does, like Wicked Gamer & Collector, you'll see that ALL such boxes do exactly what you complain about with this one.

Name me an $80 console that is perfect and runs everything flawlessly and don’t come with preloaded doubles? I’ll wait, people act like they don’t know what they’re getting into. 90% of the illegal shit is from china even the hand held a. All the noob people want is more power to just brute force the game pass the failing emulator lol. Must these most these chips are 20yrs newer even if it a SoC setup, a cortex A9 or Mali g51 is way more power than anything inside a GameCube lol or Dreamcast. Fix the sucky emulators. It shouldn’t take a 5th generation snapdragon SoC to run a damn N64 like golden eye.
I'm not upset that the device doesn't run everything perfectly. My points were simple... 1. Don't include duplicates of games. No way you can defend including 55 versions of the same game, and half don't launch. 2. If it doesn't run well, don't include it. I am not complaining that games I wanted to add myself didn't run well, I'm saying the performance of their habd selected games was terrible. 3. You can't also tell me you think it's appropriate to modify games and remove key features like background music. These are all common sense things. I can name dozens of consoles and handhelds in the same price point or cheaper that don't do any of this stuff. Anbernic rg353v, rg35xx, rg35xx plus, rg351v, 351p, 351m, trimui smart pro, powkiddy rgb35, even all the JM plug and play hard drives don't do any of this stuff.
It sucks. I paid for Hanks external hard drive emulators with 500 gigabytes for $54 or $56. Ps3 emulator sucks and most of the games for old school doesn't come with everything like A-Z. I can buy an external hard drive at Best Buy for $60 with 2 terabytes and download the software and games myself. Hanks files in the hard drive are unorganized. Thanks to a horrible youtuber for recommending me buying it, what a rip off

To me, this almost looks like a cheap knock-off console with poor emulation from China. except now with overcharging.
The emulators are Open source. The X4 runs Emulec 4.6 the older X2 and before runs 3.9.

X2 pro has android 9, X4 has android 11 the X4 processor is somewhat faster not by enough to replacing an X2 box with an X4 box.

Name me an $80 console that is perfect and runs everything flawlessly and don’t come with preloaded doubles? I’ll wait, people act like they don’t know what they’re getting into. 90% of the illegal shit is from china even the hand held a. All the noob people want is more power to just brute force the game pass the failing emulator lol. Must these most these chips are 20yrs newer even if it a SoC setup, a cortex A9 or Mali g51 is way more power than anything inside a GameCube lol or Dreamcast. Fix the sucky emulators. It shouldn’t take a 5th generation snapdragon SoC to run a damn N64 like golden eye.
I'm not upset that the device doesn't run everything perfectly. My points were simple...
1. Don't include duplicates of games. No way you can defend including 55 versions of the same game, and half don't launch.
2. If it doesn't run well, don't include it. I am not complaining that games I wanted to add myself didn't run well, I'm saying the performance of their habd selected games was terrible.
3. You can't also tell me you think it's appropriate to modify games and remove key features like background music.
These are all common sense things. I can name dozens of consoles and handhelds in the same price point or cheaper that don't do any of this stuff. Anbernic rg353v, rg35xx, rg35xx plus, rg351v, 351p, 351m, trimui smart pro, powkiddy rgb35, even all the JM plug and play hard drives don't do any of this stuff.

It sucks. I paid for Hanks external hard drive emulators with 500 gigabytes for $54 or $56. Ps3 emulator sucks and most of the games for old school doesn't come with everything like A-Z. I can buy an external hard drive at Best Buy for $60 with 2 terabytes and download the software and games myself. Hanks files in the hard drive are unorganized. Thanks to a horrible youtuber for recommending me buying it, what a rip off
