Niman did not required an expertise in the previous forms. That was pretty clear in Geonosys in the arena battle where all Niman practiocioners and master died as they were not able to sustain the continuous blast fire from the droids. On the opposite, none of form III masters was told killed during that battle. @Maddog-xc2zv Did read what I said? I said we'll versed in other forms, I never said it required "Expertise" in previous forms. Jedi Niman practitioners are different from Sith Niman practitioners, especially when paired with Juyo, so that Geonosis example is irrelevant
@@thealmightypancakeface9585 again, a trade of all jacks except for exar kun and few others near his level. geonosis example just shows how incomplete most Niman users were. Maul would have been better off actually having Kenobi there with Savage when Palp showed up. Forget killing Satine....trick Kenobi into being there when luring Palpatine to them. This could be a win for the Galaxy too as there would be a chance to kill Palps but also perhaps after that Maul and Savage could stay on Dathomir with the Nightsisters...ending the Sith religion entirely
Awesome lore here. Great job. In my jiu jitsu, I also play the same way. Super defensive. I learn about the opponents strengths and weaknesses by being gentle and controlled, giving openings that lead nowhere and offering positions that look good but end in traps... And hopefully reversals. And sometimes subs from bad positions... Or I just bide my time until the other person finds themselves exhausted for some reason while in a superior position where they think they should be getting more rest than me... But I'm still fresh as a daisy... Muahaha It's not effective against guys who are good, but I've managed to hold off black belts (I'm a white belt, almost blue) and give them a run for their money. I'm also very strong and heavy, so I find that this is the best way to have a fun match and works pretty well against someone who is spazzy. Form 3 baby! Haha
Niman is something he also practiced. He probably did so for Jar Kaii but also for its ability to merge saber forms and combine force attacks. Ventress mixed Niman with her main form Makashi.
@@treiwilson9445 As a Consular Form 2 Makashi, Form 3 Soresu and Form 6 Niman are great choices. Makashi and Soresu are very similar in that they conserve energy during combat to wear opponents down. Vader utilised Form 2 into his saber play after he got suited up to compensate for his suits shortcomings. Form 2 offered strong defences against force attacks as well as saber combat its known for, since Form 6 Niman doesn't have form 2 in its make-up...adding it is mandatory. Form 6 can be extremely powerful when Consulars rely more on their force powers than their lightsaber - I suspect Kreia developed her telekinetic lightsaber combat style using Niman
Literally what I don't understand is how did Palpatine master all 7 forms being a human, in hiding, with galaxy spanning political ambitions and responsibilities?
That would have more than likely been when he was younger and not all Dark Side and sh*t when he learned them and possibly spent considerable amounts of years getting to almost perfect mastery. It was probably only when he first had to start hiding and sneaking and Dark Side things did he eventually find the time to fine tune and hone the rest of the skills to hit mastery status in the 7forms plus he is extremely powerful in the force and might even have used that to his advantage giving himself the heightened ability to master forms faster... Idk, but those are my two favorite theories as an explanation/answer for you
I didn’t know that Maul use Obi-Wan’s famous form, it’s cool that he learn it from his last fight with Obiwan. But unfortunately he lost, it takes lots of practice to master form 3. That’s why Obiwan is the master of it, since Maul was just an assassin & a Sith Lord too.
Sidious wanted him alive to suffer because of all he lost, half body to a Padowan kenobi, his brother to Sidious, the rule of Mandalor, all the shame of being traded by more suited apprentices like Tyrannus and then Vader. He had to live all until the ill fated duel with Kenobi (with a total of maybe 5 strikes) on Tatooine (where Kenobi was already looking up for luke, which means Vader was in the position he once had... with this "evil" strategy Sidious completely destroyed Maul's mind during the years after their duel, which was much more pleasurable to Sidious - and we all noticed that in his last duel Maul was only but a shadow of what he once was)
I have fulfilled my destiny! Oddly, i thought my destiny was to own a campervan and travel around the UK when and how my funds allowed. Turns out it was subscribing to this channel after multible years of watching.......who knew?! 🤣
"Out-classed" is a rough way to put it. Sidious is DECADES older than Maul, time standa still for no one even Sidious. So it comes down to experience. Sidious is a master of ALL the forms, with multiple DECADES of experience with them, Maul simply wasn't as good or better put, experienced. If it was Form V vs. Form V and NOTHING else in that moment after Savage was killed, perhaps Maul takes it due to his instant hate of Sidious. But this is where EXPERIENCE comes into play, the mixing of styles, the breadth of experience and even better, knowledge. Maul's gambit was he'd put Obi-Wan on tilt saying "someone." He ALMOST succeded in that regard, we saw Obi's face change from calm to, I'm gonna end this guy once and for all. Sidious is even DECADES older than Obi-Wan, Maul, even Obi-Wan, had no shot. Only Jedi, or any lightsaber wielders, who could hang with him then where Mace and Yoda. I see Maul as a tragic figure who got used to the highest degree sadly. I truly believe what he said to Obi at the end that the Chosen One would avenge them BOTH. We all know at this point that whether Jedi or Sith, their system was broken, I honestly think Maul, maybe Asuka, knew this first-hand first, better than anyone in the "Disney" canon.
wish maul had told obi wan about using obi's technique against the emperor due to his respect of him. though it would be kind of nice to see maul having sought out obi wan to learn how to master multiple forms of lightsaber combat from him instead of trying to kill or get killed by him.
Interesting video. On a side note, Obi-Wan was THE master of Form III, but even he couldn't stand one-on-one with Sidious. No surprise that someone like Maul, who is less skilled in the form, wouldn't be able to survive him.
"Obi wan is weak on going the opposite offensive side" Not really, your kinda underestimating Kenobis offensive skill especially when he was also a master of ataru slightly less than Yoda. (Especially when you read the republic comics that are seperate from TCW)
What if both he and obi wan used suresu against each other in Rebels? P.S. Maul also continued to train in Suresu ever since the clone wars in this scenario.
It seems like all Banite Sith study Niman. So they have familiarity with all six forms. Maul, as a martial artist, would understand the importance of a solid defense. I don't think Soresu would have been as foreign a skill as all that. But his quickness to anger definitely worked against him. Darth Zannah was a master of Soresu. But she always had complete control. Even when she was losing a fight.
you forgot Juyo(sith)/Vaapad(jedi), there are 7 lightsaber combat forms. And except Exar Kun and a couple Niman was not really that great, as probably would know something of all 5 forms before Niman, but you would not master any - exceptions are force users like Sidious, Yoda, Windu and not much more on this era that mastered all 7 lightsaber forms, so Niman was also included and really not needed as they mastered all others, including one that come after, form VII and were able to change between them all or complement one with others like many other jedi and sith did although they did not mastered the seven forms, like Ashoka, Anakin/Vader, Count Dooku, Plo Koon, Kenobi, Depa Bilaba, Maul (although the last one used almost only Juyo combined with Jar'Kai discipline like Ahsoka also used but she was able to mix various forms like III, IV, both disciplines of V)...
Kenobi is the most popular to use soresu. So we only see it done with one Saber. Do these forms have a preference to the Saber style used? Single, double or dual? Is it feasible to use a double staff with say form 1?
I was wondering something. Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi always faced each other and sense their presence. How did Dooku never sense Rako Hardeen was Obi-Wan?
Obi wan explained this to Anakin he said the only way Dooku would believe he's dead is if Anakin believed he was dead hence why Anakin was not informed that Obi Wan faked his death.
Apparently unlike love (so the saying goes) Hate an Vengeance DOESNT conqueror all.. I ALSO wonder, given how Maul died, after this sorta revelation i wonder IF Maul had lived long enough if he too coulda an woulda eventually went on a quasi or strait up Redemption path of his own.. once he broke from the path of being a pure offensive brute an actually proved to be quite cunning an manipulative when he REALLY wanted to be
Mauls hair trigger aggressive personality disagrees with soresu to the point where it just wouldn't ever work..u need a certain temperment to compliment soresu in order for it to work at 100% capacity. Obiwan wouldn't let himself get frustrated by being on the defensive and he waits for his opportunity wheras maul is constantly looking and searching for opportunities while doing soresu rather than waiting for them to present themselves, because in mauls mind "he aint got time for that shit!"..he ain't waiting for shit! He is gonna try to force inopportune "openings" out of impatients from a want to finish his opponent asap, wheras obiwan would be fine defending and backing for hours if need be until the perfect opportunity presented itself. If obiwan used soresu like maul did against anakin for example, anakin would have found a way exploit that impatients way back in the control room lol.
And as for the 2v1 against Palpatine, Palpatine trained Maul, and and also preferred fighting with Form 7, form 3 being a counter to form 7, and the fact that Maul was scared shitless why would he not use 3?
I disagree with the assessment of Sidous' skill - he always tried to take on both brothers individually, and made sure Maul was down before finishing Savage. He also resorted to the Force after being noticeably pushed back by Maul, who in his rage was gaining the upper hand. He was a very good all round swordsman, but not on the level of sabremasters like Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, Maul, or Anakin. Instead, he resorted to his strength in the Force.
Dude sidous was his master and often would make himself appear weaker in fights to trick opponents kinda like when he let windu beat to get anikan to turn on him
Maul lost his legs for the exact same reason that Anakin (or Vader at that point) lost his. They underestimated their enemy and overrated their own abilities.

BTW, Jedi and Sith always differ from each other no matter the form they choose, it's more relevant the state of mind of one philosophy/religion on how to approach the forms and use of the force rather than the forms per si and the force as an empty blanket from where you built who you'll wish to be as a force user.
Great video!
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Ali Galia made a damn good account of herself .
Muahaha
It's not effective against guys who are good, but I've managed to hold off black belts (I'm a white belt, almost blue) and give them a run for their money.
I'm also very strong and heavy, so I find that this is the best way to have a fun match and works pretty well against someone who is spazzy.
Form 3 baby! Haha
Obi-Wan truly earned his way to the top. I would never be disappointed in having him as a master.
Well that is one way to look at things
Love your content sir.
I thought Maul was a Niman practitioner as well. Along with Juyo and Ataru.
With Soresu he also has Djem So
Niman is something he also practiced. He probably did so for Jar Kaii but also for its ability to merge saber forms and combine force attacks. Ventress mixed Niman with her main form Makashi.
@@jyralnadreth4442 I would have to master the other forms before getting into Niman. Form 7 is too risky.
@@jyralnadreth4442 according to the video it did say Maul had trouble with Soresu but he watered the other forms
For me, this is the best story arc in Clone Wars
Yeah Maul's rise to power with his Shadow Collective/Mother Talzin was the best part for sure.
I never noticed that.
Happy Friday!
Nice breakdown & observation....
💯👏👏👏👏👏👏💯
Bro I dint even notice he took form 3 broo took me this long
Excellent video.
Idk, but those are my two favorite theories as an explanation/answer for you
I can dig it. Thank you :)@@josephalonzo1059
Well it worked. Sidious could not break his guard, he had to overwhelm him with the force
Sith lords are his specialty.
wish maul had told obi wan about using obi's technique against the emperor due to his respect of him. though it would be kind of nice to see maul having sought out obi wan to learn how to master multiple forms of lightsaber combat from him instead of trying to kill or get killed by him.
Interesting video. On a side note, Obi-Wan was THE master of Form III, but even he couldn't stand one-on-one with Sidious. No surprise that someone like Maul, who is less skilled in the form, wouldn't be able to survive him.
"Obi wan is weak on going the opposite offensive side"
Not really, your kinda underestimating Kenobis offensive skill especially when he was also a master of ataru slightly less than Yoda. (Especially when you read the republic comics that are seperate from TCW)
Never realized this
What if both he and obi wan used suresu against each other in Rebels?
Imagine, if Maul, out of his comfort zone, escaped Sidious alive, and lasted so long, imagine how Obi Wan would fare.
Obi-Wan was a fucking menace to the Sith. I know they sat down, watched film on bro to figure out a game plan like he was Jordan 😂
Impressive
Kenobi is the most popular to use soresu. So we only see it done with one Saber. Do these forms have a preference to the Saber style used? Single, double or dual? Is it feasible to use a double staff with say form 1?
That isn’t a Soresu stance or salute. This is a Niman opening stance and high guard.
I feel like Maul would've been a dope ass Jedi
I was wondering something. Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi always faced each other and sense their presence. How did Dooku never sense Rako Hardeen was Obi-Wan?
Obi wan explained this to Anakin he said the only way Dooku would believe he's dead is if Anakin believed he was dead hence why Anakin was not informed that Obi Wan faked his death.
Apparently unlike love (so the saying goes) Hate an Vengeance DOESNT conqueror all..
I ALSO wonder, given how Maul died, after this sorta revelation i wonder IF Maul had lived long enough if he too coulda an woulda eventually went on a quasi or strait up Redemption path of his own.. once he broke from the path of being a pure offensive brute an actually proved to be quite cunning an manipulative when he REALLY wanted to be
I wonder wether Kenobi would have stood longer against Sidious than Maul.
Obi wan was more powerful than we could possibly imagine..
What if maul went immediately back to he's master after he gained back he's sanity?
Maul didn’t defeat Kenobi on Naboo
I'm pretty sure it was when he cut him in half and killed him .
Can we get a why maul continued to use a single bladed lightsaber until before Revenge of the sith?
What did Abaloth Think about Palpatine?
Obiwan would kill as a defensive coordinator in the nfl...lol
What episode and season is this? *Sighs* I really have to make time to watch The Clone Wars.
Dude sidous was his master and often would make himself appear weaker in fights to trick opponents kinda like when he let windu beat to get anikan to turn on him
How in the worlds did Maul defeat Kenobi on Naboo? We all remember the way that ended don't we?
Mail lost due to his arrogance
Not the fact he was overpowered or outskilled
@aceclover758 The point is ,he lost.
Maul lost his legs for the exact same reason that Anakin (or Vader at that point) lost his. They underestimated their enemy and overrated their own abilities.
@@Nuklz1981 you asked how Maul lost, I gave you a reason
Would Form 5 be a better fit for Maul?
Obi Wan Kenobi > Darth Maul
Obi-Wan Kenobi was trained by Qui-Gon Jinn and Qui-Gon Jinn is a great Jedi Master so of course Obi-Wan would survive this battle
