Ashoka was able to strike a blow against one side of his mask, Obi-Wan the other side. They both got a glimpse of Anakin literally entombed within the iron lung of Vader. But only Luke could remove that mask entirely. He became the Jedi Anakin always wanted to be. When he defied the Emperor and cast aside his lightsaber I can only imagine what Vader must have thought. Exactly as it was described, Luke had pulled Anakin from that pit on Mustafar. His love, compassion and true virtues had just as much redeemed Anakin from hell as Anakin himself.
The great irony is that the self loathing that held Vader back was also his source of power. His guilt, a pain he would never be without, pain becoming anger, anger that would be added to by others, this anger became hatred, hatred for himself and those around him, which would lead to the constant suffering of himself and others while creating more fear, anger and hatred which lead to even more suffering. Only, once Vader renounced the Dark Side and became Anakin once more was he able to achieve all that he wanted without thinking about it. He was able to save those he cared about, destroy Palpatine and ultimately bring balance to the force. In once selfless act, he became stronger than the Emperor, even if it cost him his life.
Remind me of one of the stories I read. It was cheesy but it was also pretty good. The notable part of the story is Vadar ends up fighting a resurrected Maul who a bunch of cultists claim was the last real Sith. Maul tells Vadar he can never be a true Sith because he was a jedi at one point and he will never have enough hate in him to fully embrace being a Sith. Well Vadar ends up killing maul and maul's last words were something along the lines of "what gives you enough hate to kill me?" and Vadar Just says "Myself". Edit: forgot to mention Vadar wins by stabbing himself in the chest with a lightsaber.
Held captive by the loss of his wife and children. Watching his son who's loss had been part of his turn to the dark side. A dark side created by the loss of his wife and kid. But the return of his son showed him that his turn wasn't because he was evil. But cause he was emotionally damaged from the loss of his mother, wife, child. He was no longer Darth Vader cause Darth Vader was someone being manipulated by Palpatine. It was never who he really was. There was always still good in him. He just couldn't see it. Only his kid could. Cause our children sometimes save us from ourselves and show us how to mature and love ourselves.
Honestly I think what really made anakin come forth was when palpatine was torturing him and Luke cried “father!” “Father help me!” I don’t think any parent could bear that
A big thing is that he suffered the same way under Sidious, in his mind the torture he endured at the hands of his master was his cross to bear - but to see his son, somebody pure, somebody innocent, somebody who resisted the dark, suffering in the same way, begging for his help; I think that's when he decided to throw Palpatine in the pit. 'Consequences be damned, kill me if you want, I do not care, get your hands off my son.'
I find it very interesting too how the Jedi absolutely detest emotions even love but in the end it was Vader's love for his son that brought him back to the light side
I like how you described “it was as if Luke had pulled him from that pit on Mustafar” there is always such deep meanings that you can easily miss if you aren’t paying attention. Because when you look back at when Obi-Wan defeated Anakin, he was laying there in pain and anguish, his eyes turned into Sith eyes, but yet you could still see the pain in his eyes, as if he wanted to cry out for help but his pride would not let him. Luke is what Anakin needed, a helping hand up, a pull back to the light.
Vader: "Go, my son. Leave me." Luke: "I'm not going to leave you here, I've got to save you." Vader: "You already have, Luke. You were right about me. Tell your sister you were right." Luke: "Father...." -Vader dies
To think how resonant and powerful those statements are when taken in the wider context. Vader turned back from the dark path because his son had faith in him to the point of facing a painful death. He showed mercy to a man who hated nothing so much as he did himself, proved to him that he was worthy of sympathy and redemption. That kind of unconditional love is so vanishingly rare that it exerts an insane amount of power in its own right. And then we're expected to believe, due to one man's vanity and obsession with bait-and-switch storytelling, that Luke went from a man who was barely out of boyhood and exemplified all this virtue...to a ruin of a man who made a pre-emptive strike at his own nephew. In his sleep.
This is so nice :) Anakin has returned. This is the light side, good, love, compassion. Anakin had all this you mention.Anakin conquered dark side.He brought balance to the Force. When Luke threw his lightsaber away Anakin wished he did the same on Invisible Hand. He achieved atonement. Thank you so much for this. May the Force be with you too
Excellent narration by you stupendous , this made me think back as my father passing and he no longer could speak, but his showed love he had for me. It is 34 years later. Thank you my friend 🙏🙏
I feel like this was a particularly deep and personal analyzation and video for wave, we can all learn alot from vaders insight in his final moments, like we can all be redeemed and atone for our transgressions and failures, and that self loathing can be just as dangerous as rage and hate and cruelty, maybe even more so bc self loathing facilitates and encourages those negative feelings and actions,if you feel bad for something awful you've done you cant keep punishing yourself, at a point you just gotta let go and decide to be differe t, to be a different better person and start doing good things, it may never atone for the bad thing you did but its better for others and especially yourself that you put in the work and effort to make and do new good things regain respect for your actions and in yourself
Vaders journey to me has always been more than movies and comics...we all fall to the dark side, some more than others, some never admit it,others have no clue...I felt the same way as Vader, not Worthy of love, blaming myself for my marriage failing, being a crappy father after I started going in and out of jail. Forgiving myself was the hardest
Pairs up so well with the way Ahsoka showed him accepting both sides and becoming something more important in the galaxy, taking o the responsibility of being a watcher and a guide.
Awesome commentary! I'd like to express my personal opinion on one particular matter though. Weakness. I won't delve too much in detail, but people who refuse to adress/justify with excuses their weakness can truly be considered weak and can cause sufferings for those around them as well. I knew close people who never had the inner strenght to stand up for themselves. They never taught me to do so. They said it was because it was best to avoid conflict. But the truth was that they had never learnt to make others respect their own selves. It will take a lot to work on your weaknesses. If you can't become stronger, admit to those around you that there are better ways to handle things. Tell them I know I'm not a good example, but for your sake you should try to do better then me. I was so scared when I was a child. Even when I became a teen I had difficulties for example going to a restaurant and ask for a table for one. I asked those close to me for advice and they told me there was nothing wrong in feeling unconfortable because it was not customary for social standards. BS. They, as much as I, were afraid to eat out alone. Because they subconsciously feared being judged negatively by the other people. Why should you be afraid of enjoying a meal on your own? You are not weak if you have weaknesses. You are not weak if it takes long to work on those weaknesses. You are not a coward if you admit you can't solve them on your own. But you are weak if you find excuses and pretend you don't have a problem and lie. Again, this will affect even those around you
Beautifully said and I to relate to your struggles and it’s def an uphill battle but one that can and will be overcome through working to solve those issues and asking those around for help and support if need be I try to impart these beliefs on people I wish I had someone in my life to do the same but the first step in fixing a problem or weakness is having the strength and will to first admit that one exists
@@tonyjohnson7632 yes unfortunately self esteem is very hard to gain but easy to lose xD one step at a time. "If you don't succeed, try and try again" Rebels quote. I hope you conquer your fears as well!
Vader is considered one the best written vilians in cinema history, but from another perspective, he is more a tragic character. At a young age, he was sold into slavery, then two Jedi warriors came and promised him the life of a Jedi. He accepted, but years later he would lose his mother. Then he developed a forbidden attachment to Padme, and lost her. Palpatine exploited those weaknesses and turned him against the Jedi.
This is a good metaphorical analysis of overcoming darkness of oneself. We all struggle with choices dark, light . We all through the process of life itself!
I remember seeing ROTJ in the cinema, it was a really intense moment with Vader's helmet came off. You didn't know what to expect, but you certainly didn't expect to see the face of a sad old man.
Its so beautiful and there’s so many meanings. When Luke cut Vaders hands he looks at his hands and realize he’s becoming like his father and decides to throw away the saber. And thats bc Vader is making Luke angrier purposely which is for the dark side of course but also a Palpatine move originally but also a tactic arguably used by Obi Wan as a defensive mode is good too get your opponent overwhelmed with emotions to make them do mistakes if you can managed their anger ( also a Musashi approach) There’s even the part when Luke his higher when Vader says "Obi Wan told you well" Ani was very inspired by how Obiwan defeated Maul and he tried same move completely consumed by his emotions he convinced himself everyone was evil, and perhaps didn’t expect Obi Wan to do the move he did so calmly (not like Maul situation where the emotions are reversed Obi was calm and Maul too confident and existed, which probably Ani misinterpreted a that moment) that is a forbidden move for jedis btw so tragic. Then under Palpatine orders for so long, he wants to have Luke with him so bad to take down Palpatine ( and cut his hand like dooku did under Palpatine command) But right at the very end when Luke is about to die , Ani decides to be the father he never had, to be like Qui Gon that sacrificed him self bc he believed in him, like Luke and Padme (which almost nobody did and was Vader when nobody believed in him), Which means believing that the prophecy is still possible and sacrificed himself for his son. And becomes a ghost like yoda and Obi Wan which was only possible bc of Qui Gon wisdom Ultimately Anakin actions was inspired and transcend Qui Gon Obi Wan Dooku and Palpatine mixed with his own emotional turmoil, the sith happened technically happened bc jedis actually fear attachment, and he was pretty much a slave and unrecognized all his life despite being the most talented person and having multitude of tragic and very unique issue that no one has real good guidance for him nor empathy. Omg its incredible I could go on all day
This video brought me to tears and reminded me that Star Wars is not about a galaxy, it's the story of Anakin Skywalker and should always stay that way.
I was a boy when ROTJ was released. Eight going on nine. My mom bought me the novelization not long after I saw the movie. I read it that very day in one sitting. Anakin's death, all he was thinking about, always resonated with me and I would hear those words in my mind. "The freedom of deep space..."
Hearing this made me ball my eyes out, I suffer from a rare medical condition that also fills me with self hatred and shame. Hearing how Luke saved his father was just touching. I’m not evil like Vader but I hope to also free myself from my own shackles
I want Leia, Luke and Vader stories. I imagine Leia upset at her brother and the other Jedi for trying to rush her to forgive her father. That they all need to understand that Leia never longed for a father because she already had one and Vader was involved in her loss.
Next holocron - Did Anakin Skywalker ever reach out to Luke from beyond the grave following his passing? 💭 🤔 Or did Luke reach into the netherworld to try and contact his deceased father?
Children save parents from themselves and teach them how to be able to love and forgive themselves by loving little versions of themselves. How much self hatred we see in the world currently cause people blaming their parents, their grandparents, and their children.
I think the significance of Anakin saying "I am your father" in Empire Strikes Back is under recognized. Earlier in the movie when Vader and Sidious are talking about Luke they describe his father in the third person. To their point of view Anakin is dead, and in that moment he says that he is Anakin Skywalker. Darth Vader isn't Luke's father, Anakin is.
All Anakin had to do was tell Kenobi about his visions. I have no doubt Kenobi would have figured it out and that would have been the end of Palpatine.
I think most of his free time was probably spent reading, searching for Sith and Jedi artifacts, scheming and performing rituals/communing with the dark side to extend his lifespan and/or sustain himself.
There already is a video about it. What little free time Sidious had from ruling the Empire, scheming or making Jedi fight each other like gladiators, he wrote books like Ultimate Power and enjoyed arts such as obscene poetry.
You were my brother Anakin, i loved you......... I just realized obi wan also broke the jedi code when he came out and said that which makes it even more powerful
That is an awesome novelization. It's amazing how books can encapsulate raw emotions and feelings from a character that even great actors stage or screen don't.
I grew up seeing the original starwars movies in the cinema seeing luke and vader seeing his son and luke saying i sence good in you father it was the fact his son knew under neath the suit was his real father and the fact vader knew he would die if he removed his mask just to see his son with his own eyes was tragic but to vader worth dieing for
Imagining the life of Anakin Skywalker, the "old man", and all of the OT dialogue about the type of person he was and the type of life he led - in no way ever made me think of someone like young, brash prequel Anakin. I liked the prequels, but always felt there was a huge disconnect between what i was watching, and the original idea of the Father, Anakin.
I still have an idea for a possibly amazing story set after Anakin died. In the Force itself, Anakin is put on a trial of sorts as to whether he has the right to manifest his consciousness after death. Where Anakin's virtues are pitted against Vader's sins. The judge could be a new character, maybe the first Jedi or something, his prosecutor would be one of the Jedi he killed or something like that. And his defender would be of all people, a Sith Lord! The story would cover everything Anakin did in life. And a lot of what Vader did. His defense would focus on how it was the Jedi Council itself that was mainly at fault for Vader's birth. The defense would point out all the glaring Mistakes they made in dealing with him that turned him towards the darkside. In the end, Anakin would find himself unworthy of such a gift, but also point out that truly no one could ever be fully worthy of it. And that realization would be what earns him the right.

as far as star wars movies go revenge of the sith is probably the only one I've ever really liked. Also the only one to move me to tears. Anakin's story is one of deep sadness and in many ways the only story that really mattered. This lttle dip beneath the surface just makes his story all the more sadder.
Darth Vader's transition back to Anakin Skywalker, particularly during his redemption arc in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi," involves a profound inner struggle and turmoil: 1. **Clashes of Identity**: As Vader confronts his son, Luke Skywalker, and Emperor Palpatine on the Death Star, he grapples with conflicting identities. The persona of Darth Vader, a Sith Lord consumed by darkness and fear, clashes with the memories and emotions of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Knight and father. 2. **Regret and Remorse**: Throughout his time as Darth Vader, Anakin has committed atrocities and betrayed those he loved. These memories haunt him as he contemplates his past actions and the devastating impact they've had on his life and the galaxy. 3. **Desire for Redemption**: Anakin's realization of the Emperor's malevolent intentions and Luke's unwavering belief in his goodness ignite a desire for redemption. He begins to see a path to redemption through sacrificing himself to save Luke, symbolizing his return to the light side of the Force. 4. **Conflict and Acceptance**: As the battle between Luke, Vader, and Palpatine escalates, Anakin grapples with his inner demons and the choice to embrace his true identity. Ultimately, he makes the decision to save Luke from Palpatine's grasp, fulfilling the prophecy of the Chosen One and restoring balance to the Force. In these moments, Vader's thoughts are marked by a tumultuous journey of self-discovery, redemption, and the resolution of his inner conflict between light and darkness. His transformation back into Anakin Skywalker signifies a pivotal moment of redemption and reconciliation with his past as both a Jedi Knight and a Sith Lord.
I fear i will fall one day cus im so much like anakin in so many ways, its like looking into a mirror it wasnt until i had my own children that was was able to let go of all that anger and fear and darkness
After Mustafar, Vader believed any remnants of Anakin Skywalker, had died. After besting Luke on Bespin, he tells Luke that he doesn't want to destroy him, but join him to take down Palpatine. Then he tells Luke that he is his father, which always came across as him saying that Anakin Skywalker was still alive. In that moment, It showed that maybe there was still some good in him as Padme said, and Luke, not fully trained but extremely strong in the force, sensed this also.
I have a theory that anakin was put in the suite by sidious to humiliate him i mean think about it youve seen the cybernetics theyve made he could have built him a body to survive not a suit but no he made a suit that was in constant disrepair and unreliable and it made it harder for him tofight and made him slower in a fight
Oh absolutely. Beyond just the cybernetics, we've seen Grievous, far less of a man than Vader but put into a powerful and fast droid body that allowed him to even face Jedi without any Force sensitivity of his own. And we've seen bacta, which couldn't restore his lost limbs, but certainly should have been able to heal the rest of his wounds. When Vader lost to Obi Wan, I think Palpatine gave up on him. He maybe tried to goad him into truly embracing his powers as a Sith lord, but he no longer felt that Vader had any potential to be a truly worthy replacement. In that moment, he demoted him to "Darth Maul, but more damaged."

Thank you for your comment, I lost my grandpa just over a year ago, I know how hard these things can be.
Allah
💯 nobody is irredeemable
Vaders journey to me has always been more than movies and comics...we all fall to the dark side, some more than others, some never admit it,others have no clue...I felt the same way as Vader, not Worthy of love, blaming myself for my marriage failing, being a crappy father after I started going in and out of jail. Forgiving myself was the hardest
Pairs up so well with the way Ahsoka showed him accepting both sides and becoming something more important in the galaxy, taking o the responsibility of being a watcher and a guide.
That’s why I love SW because that’s deep. Something we go through in real life what was said at the end.
Again, this will affect even those around you
xoxoxo
Beautifully said and I to relate to your struggles and it’s def an uphill battle but one that can and will be overcome through working to solve those issues and asking those around for help and support if need be I try to impart these beliefs on people I wish I had someone in my life to do the same but the first step in fixing a problem or weakness is having the strength and will to first admit that one exists
@@tonyjohnson7632 yes unfortunately self esteem is very hard to gain but easy to lose xD one step at a time. "If you don't succeed, try and try again" Rebels quote.

Amazing video. I choked up and the end. Thank you for making this.
Great commentary on this. Very well done.
You got me at the end, dude. May the force be with you, always.
Bruh, quite possibly your best video yet. Amazing. You hit every sentiment eloquently. Thanks for this wonderful work
Man this video brought a tear to my eye
I can tell this commentary must’ve been tough to do, because this scene invokes a lot of emotion.
This is beautiful. Thank you for another great video!
This is a good metaphorical analysis of overcoming darkness of oneself. We all struggle with choices dark, light . We all through the process of life itself!
It's a story many men can relate to... Having a son definitely changed who I was. He enlarged my life and gave it meaning. My son saved me too.
It sounded at the end there you were getting a bit emotional. Anakin's story chokes me up from time to time as well.
This story brought tears to my eyes. I have so much that I need to let go. My kids are all that is good in my life.
I remember seeing ROTJ in the cinema, it was a really intense moment with Vader's helmet came off. You didn't know what to expect, but you certainly didn't expect to see the face of a sad old man.
I had tears rolling down my face through most of this. ❤😢
Its so beautiful and there’s so many meanings. When Luke cut Vaders hands he looks at his hands and realize he’s becoming like his father and decides to throw away the saber.
And thats bc Vader is making Luke angrier purposely which is for the dark side of course but also a Palpatine move originally but also a tactic arguably used by Obi Wan as a defensive mode is good too get your opponent overwhelmed with emotions to make them do mistakes if you can managed their anger ( also a Musashi approach)
There’s even the part when Luke his higher when Vader says "Obi Wan told you well"
Ani was very inspired by how Obiwan defeated Maul and he tried same move completely consumed by his emotions he convinced himself everyone was evil, and perhaps didn’t expect Obi Wan to do the move he did so calmly (not like Maul situation where the emotions are reversed Obi was calm and Maul too confident and existed, which probably Ani misinterpreted a that moment) that is a forbidden move for jedis btw so tragic.
Then under Palpatine orders for so long, he wants to have Luke with him so bad to take down Palpatine ( and cut his hand like dooku did under Palpatine command)
But right at the very end when Luke is about to die , Ani decides to be the father he never had, to be like Qui Gon that sacrificed him self bc he believed in him, like Luke and Padme (which almost nobody did and was Vader when nobody believed in him),
Which means believing that the prophecy is still possible and sacrificed himself for his son.
And becomes a ghost like yoda and Obi Wan which was only possible bc of Qui Gon wisdom
Ultimately Anakin actions was inspired and transcend Qui Gon Obi Wan Dooku and Palpatine mixed with his own emotional turmoil, the sith happened technically happened bc jedis actually fear attachment, and he was pretty much a slave and unrecognized all his life despite being the most talented person and having multitude of tragic and very unique issue that no one has real good guidance for him nor empathy.
Omg its incredible I could go on all day
I completely agree with you.

This video brought me to tears and reminded me that Star Wars is not about a galaxy, it's the story of Anakin Skywalker and should always stay that way.
May you rest in peace, as a being of the force…Anakin Skywalker.
I was a boy when ROTJ was released. Eight going on nine. My mom bought me the novelization not long after I saw the movie. I read it that very day in one sitting. Anakin's death, all he was thinking about, always resonated with me and I would hear those words in my mind. "The freedom of deep space..."
Thank you The Stupendous Wave for the Darth Vader’s thoughts of Anakin Skywalker the split second before he died.
Thank you Darth Vader, for the Stupendous wave thoughts of Anakin Skywalker the split second before he died.
💭
🤔
Or did Luke reach into the netherworld to try and contact his deceased father?
I second it.👍
i do think it was both.
The Star Wars novel Shadow of the Sith has Anakin's force spirit reach out to Luke.
Yes! There were a small handful of times. I’ll recommend it to Mr. Wave 😄
I'd love to see that on screen or even in a comic.
Video suggestion: What Palpatine did in his free time. I really enjoyed your previous videos about what the Jedi and Sith did when off duty.
I think most of his free time was probably spent reading, searching for Sith and Jedi artifacts, scheming and performing rituals/communing with the dark side to extend his lifespan and/or sustain himself.
This was your best episode yet. Thank you for making it.
There already is a video about it.
What little free time Sidious had from ruling the Empire, scheming or making Jedi fight each other like gladiators, he wrote books like Ultimate Power and enjoyed arts such as obscene poetry.
@@AivottajaObscene?
@@IAmGodHimself777 Yeah, some poet is mentioned as being Sidious's favorite whose poetry is considered extremely obscene.

he was like 45 or 46 he was still young
That is an awesome novelization. It's amazing how books can encapsulate raw emotions and feelings from a character that even great actors stage or screen don't.
...if Vader can find a way to love himself again, so can I..
One of your best videos!
I grew up seeing the original starwars movies in the cinema seeing luke and vader seeing his son and luke saying i sence good in you father it was the fact his son knew under neath the suit was his real father and the fact vader knew he would die if he removed his mask just to see his son with his own eyes was tragic but to vader worth dieing for
Such a good video 😭
Good question

Vader comes a full circle, back to Anakin. Inner balance restored.
He was the chosen one. He achieved what Sidious couldn't. Immortality and unlimited power.
It explains how he became a Force ghost at the end of return of the Jedi
I can hear you holding back tears reading this, love it
Darth Vader's transition back to Anakin Skywalker, particularly during his redemption arc in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi," involves a profound inner struggle and turmoil:

I’m not crying you’re crying‼️
Way to apply some great life lessons to this movie great job
I loved this video
Damn. Narration sounded like it made you emotional. No judgment here. This hits on alot of personal levels for me as well.
I don’t get emotional in movies, but this one hit different after I’ve saw the very first time 13 years ago of Anakin redeemed
Here’s the thing, Anakin would have only been 45 years old when he died in ROTJ. That’s not that old and was emblematic of his short and violent life.
I need to stop cutting onions when watching these videos 😅
“Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter” 🥲
And may the Force be with you.
