While Anakin was the “chosen one” I feel Maul was an embodiment of the dark side.
He fully embraced his emotions to fuel his abilities and true to the “basic” tenants of the dark side of the force.
I’m talking about mentality and potential, not current power or skill.

It's crazy how much of a thorn Obi-Wan was for Palpatine's apprentices ! Obi-Wan defeated Maul, forcing Palpatine to seek out a new apprentice in Dooku who wanted to turn Obi-Wan to the Dark Side, Obi-Wan defeated Anakin forcing Palpatine to rebuild him with cybernetics, & Obi-Wan would train Luke before dying becoming a Force Ghost gaining Luke to use the Force to destroy the Death Star & to Dagobah where he trained under Yoda! Then Obi-Wan confirmed Darth Vader was Luke's father & that Leia was his sister, leading Luke to try & redeem Anakin rather than kill him which resulted in Luke refusing to kill his father leading Anakin to return & kill Palpatine!

Canon wise yeah in Legends while Sids was pissed that Maul failed alive or not, arrested or not etc it was because Sidious planned to use Maul in the roles of Asajj, Grievous, And possibly Durge with Dooku being the actual apprentice to Sidious outranking Maul until The Skywalkers, The Solos Of Leias Fam, Or The Mereks came a long had none of those people been in the picture then Dooku would of been Sidious ultimate apprentice unless they could Clone Yoda or revive Malgus while Maul was meant to be there top dark acolyte possibly having Maul outrank Asajj, Grievous, And Durge as well as Quinlan and others Maul would be Dookus And Sidious top assassin compared to the others in Legends yeah.

Canon Mauls potential was higher then Talzins own which is why Sids ditched Talzin for Maul that and Maul was much younger and mind was easier to mold then Talzins and Sidious planned on Maul surpassing him one day but changed his mind after Mauls failure on Naboo whether he knew Maul still survived or not THAT and he had a currently more powerful person as insurance if something like that happened in Dooku and then not long after found out about Anakin who has the highest potential ever monitored that and he was a piloting, mechanical, and robotic savant yeah.

@@keanonkerr9265 If that was the case then Sidious would of told Plagueis that those were his true intentions for Maul when he got Plagueis drunk, dizzy, ditzy, and drowsy but no instead he kept calling Maul by assassin a valuable one but a assassin none the less with his sights already on Dooku even before Mauls big failure alive or not instead Sidious said he as in Sidious in third person was the apprentice to Plagueis and Maul was there assassin not a true sith aside from in name until he found someone more powerful in potential and current power levels IE Dooku and later on The Skywalkers, Mereks, And The Solos Within Leias Line this is proven in Labyrinth Of Evil too when Sidious thoughts about looking for other replacements for Maul who Sidious noted was his first apprentice but in reality thought Maul was truly not sith but a assassin like Ventress And Grievous although a more powerful, skilled, higher potentialed one, etc and that he saw Jedi Master Dooku around TPM Era as a equal to himself from the other camp in terms of power=Jedi Arts, lightsaber skills=Mastrful Duelist, and politics and governance= A skilled diplomat and recognized in Jedi Master Dooku TPM Circa as a true ally unlike what he saw in Maul, Sifo Dyas, Qui Gon, Ventress, And Grievous that speaks higher of Dookus potential and current power levels and this was a Sidious who became more powerful after killing Plagueis thinking this so that speaks volumes plus he said he gained more powerful apprentices in Dooku who was more poweful then Maul even as a Jedi Master and Anakin who was more poweful then Tyrannus even as a Jedi Knight. Plus Plagueis thought of Dooku much like himself and Sidious as sith lord material for a combination of logics such as potential, current power levels, IQ, EQ, wealth, and more when Dooku was still a Jedi while he did not see that in Maul, Sifo Dyas, Nor Qui Gon that also speaks lots of quality. Plus one of the reasons Yoda chose Dooku to be his one on one apprentice was because of Dookus potential with the force being enigmatic even for himself to come to a conclusion meaning Dookus potential was near Yodas own that AND unlike Anakin Dooku was brought into the order at a more youthful ager yeah.

This makes me think about how Darth Bane would have never sought to turn Anakin or Dooku to the Dark Side (you'll see how this is related in a moment). In his opinion, those who had been exposed to Jedi teachings would always have a sliver of Light within them which could result in utter disaster. Vader's redemption confirmed this theory to be legitimate.
That being said, turning Dooku (one of the Order's greatest swordsmen) and Anakin ( the Chosen One) to the Dark Side were both opportunities too good to pass up, and both cases served as massive blows to the Jedi on both a physical and psychological level. Palpatine's mistake, in my opinion, was choosing to save Anakin after his defeat on Mustafar. By that point, Anakin had served his purpose by sacking the Jedi Temple and killing the Separatists. With him barely clinging to life on Mustafar, it was time to let him go, just like Dooku as the Clone War was coming to an end. So why didn't he?
I think what happened to Darth Maul greatly influenced Palpatine's decision to save Anakin. As stated in this video, Maul was a significant loss, and had Palpatine investigated his supposed death more closely and found him, Maul would have recovered much faster and continued to be a useful asset al while growing more powerful. Instead, he succumbed to madness until Savage Opress found him years later. Even though Maul's sanity was restored and he was given proper cybernetics, his progress was significantly halted and he had to work hard to catch up to where he once was.
Palpatine did not want to risk a repeat of history, so he went out of his way to save Vader instead of replacing him like with Maul and this would prove to be a fatal mistake.

After order 66 there were no more Jedis to turn and most of the force sensitives were killed or used as inquisitors. Anakin, even in his suit, had more potential than any other possible candidate and proved it over time. He was, after all, the Chosen One.

Even if Palpatine knew Maul was still alive by TPM Era it wouldn't matter since 1. Maul was still crippled up badly not just physically but also mentally and emotionally immediately after his defeat and the only way to fix him for the most part completely or mostly would be to make another deal with Talzin which Sidious knew she would never agree to have Maul go back into his services apprentice or otherwise. 2. While Dooku in terms of potential was below Maul his current power level even as a Jedi Master was above Mauls before his defeat and after plus he was insurance in case Maul either got crippled up badly, got imprisoned in a high profile leveling jedi force prison, decided to betray Sidious first, turned to the grey side or light side, resigned being a sith, or died any one of those things if they happened he had Dooku as insurance just in case if none of those things happened then he would still use Dooku but not as a apprentice but as a ultimate top tier acolyte. And Dooku became even more powerful as a dark sider. 3. Anakin was in the picture who has a potential in the force that nobody matches not even The Mortis Deities plus his piloting and mechanical skills also came in handy too yeah.

Palpatine found Maul as a child, he literally raised him and was proud of his student. It was the closest thing he had to a son, and he figured Maul could take both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
He was upset because while Maul killed the main target who he specified to take out (Qui-Gon) but lost to a student who should not have the skill he did (Obi-Wan).
Palpatine also trained Maul himself and was very hands on since he really did put a lot of effort into making him so skilled. Maul also proved he was really good in battle and had it been any other master and student it’s very likely he would have killed both.

There are 2 twings you need to think about in that context:
    1. Palpatine doesn't know what we do. He doesn't know that Maul was just lucky that Savage found him. For him, Maul likely faked his death in the very Moment where Papatine started a plan that would distract him for decades, giving Maul a great opportunity to build his own empire in the shadows. That impressed him. He thought that Maul tricked him. He already had problems believing Maul lost to a padawan, so it was logical to think that Maul just faked it. He was impressed how smart Maul was and we all know how important that was for Palpatine.
    2. Maul was the only real Sith Palpatine ever trained. Doku was just a Jedi with force lightning, never worthy of being a sith and Vader had 20 years, still never plotting against Palpatine. He never showed any signs of interest in exploring the dark side. He was just a broken man who followed him because he had nobody else left. In Canon at least, Vader never had any plans for the Future.
Besides that, Maul was incredible strong. He neither had the experience of Doku, nor the force potential of Vader, still managed to fight in the same league. He could even hold his own for about a Minute against Palpatine. The incredible about that is that Maul wasn't that strong. He was just the only apprentice of Palpatine who was able to use his haitred to its full extends, giving him the biggest feat of all his apprentices: fighting toe to toe with Palpatine, even if only for a Moment.

Palpatine learned something important after Naboo. He was too hands on, too preoccupied with the small details micromanaging others like Nute Gunray. He needed a proxy, Dooku who could be the middle manager and serve as the sith decoy while Palpatine could focus on the bigger picture.

It's because maul became the antithesis to obi wan for the sake of his own survival.
For the dark side to sustain his life he needed obi wan to embody his hatred.
He was almost obligated to become everything ben fought against.

As Palpatine said to Yoda, your arrogance blinds you master Yoda, but arrogance was the sith's biggest weakness, and it’s ultimately how Palatine died to Vader and lost to the rebels. He was so arrogant and blinded by his rage to kill Luke that he couldn’t sense Vader's conflict because of his arrogance. Same with count Dooku taking Anakin lightly in their duel, arrogantly thinking he was too powerful and trained to well in lightsaber combat, then Anakin ended up using his rage and anger to kill him, and same with Maul toying with obi teasing him before it was too late and he couldn’t realize obi wan was using the force to grab the lightsaber. Ultimately getting arrogant and cocky thus being blinded by it. Last but not least the biggest one is anakins duel with obi wan. Loosing 60-70 percent of his force ability because of his pure arrogance and disregard for obi wan as a duelist. Thinking he could use the same move and his master, that his master did to darth maul, when obi wan said DON’T TRY IT, thinking he was invincible, which is yet another example of how much the sith were blinded by arrogance.

I believe that if Maul hadn't been abandoned by Sidious, Maul would've been loyal to the end, and been probably been on par with power of Vader, not Anakin, but Vader, since he lost so much power from losing his limbs.
And Sidious could've counted on a loyal apprentice to the bitter end, one that would follow orders without hesitation, and almost perfect results, knowing his will was put first, not what Maul thought was necessary, or wrong and right.

If Sidious did it fast enough, I'm sure Maul would've kept his mind intact, he lived like that for years which eventually broke him. But if only spent maybe a month, or lets say half a year, remember Sidious has a lot of wealth to get the best help. And can probably reach out to Maul in the force and find his location, I bet Maul would reach out back if he sensed Sidious is looking for him.
Then bring him back covertly, and do like a Grievous moment with his lower body, similar to the legs Mommy gave him, but more Sith focused in utility and design

Sidious would for sure punish Maul in a way similar to Vader I imagine, some small disadvantage in his new body parts.
Along with some proper torture with lightning and mental torture, I have no doubt about that.
But Sidious would most likely make Dooku part of his plans, while keeping Maul around, I imagine in a way close to Grievous, or for specific missions, making Maul turn almost into a "bogyman" of sorts for the Jedi. While keeping him out of the big league facing Yoda, Windu and especially Anakin. While being promised to get Obi-Wan when the time was right.
Maul knew he wasn't a proper Sith Lord, or even a Darth, and more of a brunt object, and even if he thought he could be that, if Sidious told him Anakin would be his true apprentice, the damage done to Maul's psyche would be so great, I doubt he'd really go against Sidious.
Maul was a loyal puppet, and served Sidious faithfully, because of the massive trials and torture Sidious did to make him stronger, but also into a puppet.

in the alternate timeline of Maul not sustaining such great injuries, he would have honestly been a better antagonist than Dooku ever was. while yse Dooku being the fallen master of QUigan with interesting politics, that got a better written ret con recently with Tales Of The Jedi. still, Maul feels like an objectively better foil for both Anakin and Obiwan: for Anakin, he was also raised as a slave, only treated worse by those around him including his mother, and could easily have been more compelling politically to those systems. not by being silver tongued and having the former Jedi reputation but by being a true symbol, an icon of a victim that rose from the ashes to serve as one of the people the republic failed to protect when to them Anakin was just lucky, for Obiwan he's not just that old man who trained his master and betrayed the order not too long after his former student died but instead Maul is the one who killed his master and has a real chance to use mutual suffering to turn the chosen one. this version of both of them would have more personal stakes; Maul wanting to kill Obiwan for the embarrassment of not killing him with his master, and Anakin for being someone like him in many ways but being the lucky little bastard that not only had a loving mother, a more normal childhood despite being a slave, and being the one Sidious truly wanted.

@@venkateshg3171 No but it was heavily implied that he did in many Legends sources like Yoda Dark Rendezvous, The Darth Plagueis Novel, Labyrinth Of Evil, Jedi Path, Jedi Vs Sith, The Maul Vs Dooku verses section from the Star Wars Insider 109 Magazine, Attack Of The Clones Novel, Revenge Of The Sith Novel, And many other Legends quotes only a smaller number suggest Maul had a equal or higher force potential to the count most suggest Dooku had a much higher one being either near equal or actual equal to Yodas own yeah.

Some how the high ground didn't work for Maul. A terrible death IMO...he watched OWK force jump, pull a light saber and was just not ready.....should have had something better. Maul was a far better with a lightsaber and acrobatics but that is how it was written.

He trained Maul to be a sith, dooku was stronger yes but dooku needs an established algorithm to follow. Maul can take nothing and be something...SITH

You don't disclose where you are obtaining the information (sources) for your videos. A lot of this is only theories not Canon.

Palpatine should have held Obi in higher regard after he bested Maul.

In Legends he was pissed that Maul failed not because he saw Maul as actual sith material or successor material but because had Maul not made that huge error on Naboo there would be no need for Asajj, Grievous, And Durge but Dooku would still be in the apprentice position second in command to Sidious not long after TPM even if they still brought Asajj, Grievous, And Durge into there fold Maul would still outrank all of them in potential, skill, experience, and current power levels. While Dooku woulf be second to Sidious in those aspects particularly with potential and current power levels until The Skywalkers, The Solos Under Leias Liners, Or The Mereks came along yeah.
Now in Canon Maul was meant to be a plausible or probable or possible successor his potential in Canon was higher then Talzins own before his crippled state on Naboo and either near Sidious level, at Sidious spot, or higher then Sidious in potential. So Maul in Canon was seen by Sidious to be a loss because had he not failed his mission to the point were only Dathomirian Magics could heal his body, mind, soul, and potential then Sidious would of had Maul in mind as his ultimate apprentice as long as The Skywalkers Nor Solos within Leias Line were not on his radar while Dookus potential in Canon is high it is not what it was in Legends yeah.

If you're reading this, I'm assuming you're a fan... Can we all agree that the rule of two(interesting) is stupid?? Why would anyone take the time to train someone who, to move up, has to eventually kill you? Pass😂

It must be like having your favourite fanboy around. 'At last, we shall reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last, we shall have revenge!' If you added incredible wealth and power to that, he might as well have been inside ole Palp's head! th-cam.com/video/cW-mx3xUHT0/w-d-xo.html
