I have been driving electric MG4 for over 2 weeks now and did around 1.5k miles and as a owner I have 7 thing I absolutely love about this EV.
I have been driving EV's for over 6 years and my last electric car was MG5 which was a great car but this new MG4 is even better value for money family car.
All-New MG4 EV is fully-electric hatchback family car. With up to 281 miles of electric range* and two battery options, standard features include a 10.25" colour touchscreen with Apple CarPIayTM and Android AutoTM , MG iSMART app connectivity, and our MG Pilot suite of driver assistance systems, making MG4 EV the no compromise electric car.
The car I bought is the MG4 standard range SE with 64kWh battery.
I have to say other EV car makers are in trouble as this EV is going to be a game changer for electric car industry.

This is the most cost effective car in the EV market right now - one feature I want to talk about is the view of the road is amazing if you pull the driver seat right up - if you are short (5foot) you can bring it right up and it feels like you are in a crossover. Brilliant car for the price

Hi Dariusz, good informative video, I plan on getting an MG4 when available in Australia next year. I notice a lot of dust particles on your dash and on the instrument screen, as I have not seen a MG4 in person here yet, I don't know how bad the headliner material and carpet is. In your opinion, is the headliner and carpet material a poor quality style which can loosen and fall easily? My pet gripe with any car is the carpet and the headliner becoming loose and covering the interior in dust. Thanks.
I don't think this should be a problem on MG4. The quality seems nice in my opinion ☺️

Just hope it's a huge improvement over the ZS EV, although they obviously do not talk to each other as the facelift ZS EV has flip open power sockets while the MG4 has gone backwards and has the drop plastic plugs! Looking forward to the Triumph edition as that may have a much improved lane keep assist due to it using 3 front cameras vs one on current MG4 as well as front parking sensors, also the AWD and 330kw power output is nice 😀

I was looking at the cupra formentor PHEV myself as have caravan but ended up buying Grandland X plugin hybrid with 300bhp🙂

Heyho, how fast is the temperature inside going up when you start driving? Like you want 22 degrees inside and its cold outside. Does it heat up fast ?

What is the "warning" flashe on the screen when your driving?
How is the Stereo?
Stereo is fine. The flashing warning was the the speed. Basically sometimes car didn't know what's the speed limit on the motorway due to some roadworks earlier
I placed an order for a trophy. It's surprisingly fun to drive! I am interested to know how to turn off ding-ding sound as it's constantly remind me focus on driving, lane change, speed change etc which is a bit excessive...

Headlight are way better than MG5.
@@DariuszTech Haven't tried the MG5 headlights, so wouldn't be able to compare. Would be great to see the MG4 SE performing at night on dark roads.
Have charged at 142kW, it charges faster than they say……but 150kW chargers only max at 100kW.

I think metallic paint is like £600-700 extra but yes the white looks nice 🙂

So far other MG electric cars. I had MG5 before and it was a great family vehicle. MgZS EV is also offering great value for money. You can buy all under £30k here in the uk. MG4 starts from £25600

quite honestly the MG4 seems to be the electric car that attracts the most considering what you get for the money and especially the extended range Trophy or MG4 Xpower

Hi great review. I test drove one but not sure if I can live with the boot space, how have you found it with having a family and dogs. 👍🏻
We had Nissan leaf for over 4 years and it's been absolutely fine in terms of space. Mg4 is has very similar boot space however when kids get older it will be harder for the rear space. So far no complaints
@@DariuszTech MG4 most certainly does not have similar boot space as the Leaf. The Leaf has more space than the MG4 by quite a bit.
First gen leaf had very similar size but the 40kwh has bigger boot

I'm not sure the base UK SE spec (£24k) is the best value now. Trophy spec (£28k in UK) is what I would now consider to be standard for a modern EV in terms of spec, but it's annoying that you lose the LFP battery on the top trim. Will be interesting to compare this to the eC3 next year.
I know the little Citroen is going to be a game changer as a budget EV
I've had a Trophy for about 3 weeks now and I've come to realise that it is about the most dangerous car I have ever driven. The Lane Assist is nothing short of diabolical, almost wrenching the steering wheel and I would not recommend one to anyone unless MG sort this problem quickly. The car defaults to 'ON' , so switching off is a necessity and easily forgotten. My partner will not even drive it and I am already thinking of selling it.

How far do you think this car will go on the motorway without charging? The website says 205 miles, but I’m wondering what real world range is.
I have the long range with a bigger battery which should do up to 280. Real world motorway around 220.
The standard range version would do more like 170 on Motorway.

Only thing slightly worrying me is some reports of the Lane Keep Assist being over zealous and a pain, also the Driver Attention alarm / warning going off every few seconds. Have you found this with yours? Thanks again for a great review 🙂
I didn't like the lane keep assist so I turned it off. What is the driver attention alarm. Never seen this on mine 😃
@@DariuszTech Just checked this out after your reply. It has it listed under all models on MG4 official spec page, but have since found out it is actually only on Trophy version; which is great as it apparently is not accurate and goes off relentlessly. Glad it is not on the SE 🙂

Recenzji po polsku nie będę robił. W kilku słowach powiem że nie jestem bardzo zadowolony. Wcześniej miałem MG5 przez ponad rok. Zresztą to jest mój 5 elektryk. Jak na razie obie klamki nie działają bezkluczykowo. Android Auto przestał działać oraz tempomat. Generalnie auto ok. Choć dla mnie trochę za twarde zawieszenie. Jakość materiałów jest ok. Wersja SE trochę biedna.
Can you set a timer to heat the car for morning time like the leaf?
You can't set up a specific time but you can preheat by just turning on the climate

It is confirmed that MG will arrive in Poland in Q4 2023.
I suspect the MG HS, MG ZS and MG4 will make up the initial range there, hopefully they'll get the MG5 and Cyberster too. When MG arrives in Poland, their cars will come with a 7-year / 150,000km warranty.

Congratulations, I have driven an MG ZS petrol and it was amazing. Did you choose the standard version or Luxury? I am in germany and they have Standard, Comfort and Luxury versions. I wanted to know if the rear camera is included in the Standard Version.

Motorway only I would say around 240-250 miles
Can you switch off the horn sound on unlock?
There's no horn. When I approached the car it was already on that's why it made a sound

I had a test ride in it the weekend and I did quite like it, however the millions of buttons on the stereo I imagine takes alot of time getting used to.
How do you like the stereo sound quality? i didnt get to fiddle much with it, but it sounded very cheap with almost no bass
It's just a Basic sound. Nothing spectacular but for listening radio it's absolutely fine

Darius, have you had any issues with oil leaks from the reduction gearbox as has been reported in a number of cases? (See MG Evs community forum - MG4 EV Forum.)

Awful, the foam is very soft, the Material is cheap and the construction is very poor with material stitched so it is all rucked up…. Looks like they are 60k miles old not brand new!
I had several cars from Honda Civic, toyota corolla, Mitsubishi Outlander and I don't think is bad at all.
Not great. Very soft and cheap in my opinion. I put a deposit down and heard rumours of a rear oil leak. Managed to get my deposit back and the honest car salesman told me the demonstrator I drove now has the oil issue too. The problem is on a lot of the MG4 forum sites. Shame as I l really liked the car.
Such a shame. Fortunately I don't have any oil leak problems 😸

Nice car but its £28,495 for the SE long range and its only 61.7 kwh usable battery. Your car display showed you covered 4.9 miles at 2 miles per kw which would be 123 miles range ? Like you say great car for the price. Personally I wanted more interior space for the family so bought a Cupra Born which has already increased by £1840 on the price I paid in July.
Avarage consumption is 3.4 miles to Kwh from the last 1.5k miles. It's definitely not the most efficient car. What's the usable battery on Cupra?
@@DariuszTech l have a Ze50 Zoe and get 4.5 per kw on the motorway at 65mph at about 14c. Are you getting any better than you 3.4 per kw yet.
It seems your range is the same as my Zoe.I was looking at the MG for the faster charging and better range.
This 3.4 was mainly motorway at 70mph and more. I'm confident that over 4 miles kwh should be pretty achievable. 4.5 in town
@@DariuszTech Thanks for that, I get near 5 miles per kw around town. So its not as efficient as my Zoe and may only get 10 miles more than my zoe on the motorway.
It's definitely not as efficient as Zoe. I have test driven one last year and really liked it but the front seats are not suitable for kids car seats. Also it's not as spacious as my old Leaf which I was driving at the time
You can’t start remote heating if plugged in and not charging.
That laggy screen would drive me nuts

It's a personal preference I would say. Definitely the best value for money EV on the market right now 😊
I test drove one and it had a few to many major issues for me, no height adjustment on passenger seat and as my wife is tall she couldn’t get comfortable seat is set to high for tall people, no rear wiper, touch screen sometimes very unresponsive and interior is so dark especially in the back. These are things that MG could resolve very easily
Remember this is the first generation of this car so I can only imagine the facelift/2nd gen will only get better. I'm still waiting for the MG5 facelift to arrive here in the UK
@@DariuszTech agree but leaving off a rear wiper and a height adjustment for the passenger seat is pretty basic stuff
@@The-Salty-Bager agreed its inexcusable. Like not putting handles above the passengers heads or not having rear setbelt retainers so when you fold the seats down and back up again the belts get stuck behind. Basics

The inside is supposed to be sparse, it’s not as sparse as the Tesla though. Drive safe
Would you go on a 400 mile drive just for the shear hell of it ? Or is it just for mundane trips to work , shops , visiting friends etc ?

@@DariuszTech Thanks for the reply . I am a petrol head , I enjoy driving great roads , Buttertubs pass over to Birkdale , Middleton in Teesdale to Brampton, B709 to Edinburgh, back down the A701 to Moffat is one drive , taking in some of the finest scenery this island has , and home to Bury .

Sorry here in the UK instead of kilometres they use miles which is 1.6km

TBH i just can not get another car that does not have wireless android auto and wireless car play. makes no sense to me that most EV cars you still have to mess with cables lol. More laughable are the cars with a wireless charging plate but still have to plug in for android auto lol

I already have an MH ZS EV and it's awful. A new rattle or creak every other day, cheap interior together with loose, wobbly steering column that is apparently 'within tolerances' at the end of my lease now and will not be considering another..
The infotainment systemis dreadful, often freezing or rebooting whilst in use, rendering the Sat Nav pointless and Useless.

That is American’s conspiracy and rumour on China. Trust me, China won’t go to war with Taiwan because China knows there are lots more important thing to do such as doing business with the whole world. However the U.S. is not happy with the world buying Chinese products.
