    The longer ranges allow people in a household or apartment complex to share charging points. Instead of having to charge every 2 or 3 days, they only need to charge once a week so it's more practical.

    It's good you chose Whitby to visit in your electric car. Whitby is a rapid charger desert along with that surrounding North Yorkshire area and hardly any fast chargers either, making the use of electric cars difficult for anybody wishing to go there.

    Great stuff. Almost universally glowing reviews for this car has me very interested, so good real world range tests are all I really need now. No great shock it was well below the WLTP, but a solid 200 miles or more is certainly good enough.

    It's been a week since I bought MG4. Had it for 9 days now and did nearly 1k miles. So far I really like it and it's for sure the best value for money EV on the market. However there are few things that could be better. First one is the efficiency. I was getting around 4 miles to Kw on my MG5 which I part exchanged. Here on MG4 it's more like 3.3 which is pretty bad I have to admit. I have been driving EV'S for over 6 years now and test driven several other electric vehicles and this is definitely the least efficient car.
    I wish I could use the app to set the time for the climate control. Hopefully this is something that will be available after some software updates.
    The lack of the rear screen wiper is a bit annoying I have to say. But overall I'm happy with my choice 😉
    Will be definitely doing my own owner experience review soon ☺️
    Great video Miles. Thank you for sharing your thoughts

      That’s interesting. I’ve had a Kia e-niro since March 2019. I live in rural France and have covered 70,000 km so far. Our winter/summer average is 14.5 kWh/100 km (4.2 miles/kWh). Like most people we tend to do more driving in the summer and on local trips of 100 km or so with a mix of dual carriageway and country roads we regularly see >5 miles/kWh. The MG is a lower sitting, sleeker car than the Kia so I would have expected better efficiency but on the other hand the Niro and original Ioniq seem to be very good on efficiency.

    From a detailing stance, any idea what depth of paint [no doubt soft clearcoat] is being supplied on the 4? Mils / Mu on a depth gauge? Does MG have a PPF pattern for that rear light bar, suspsct will be a swirl nightmare. I miss dials, just can't love smartpads simply stuck to a dash, reminds me of the 80's when you had tech that you took out at night to stop 'em getting nicked.

    We have ordered ours and can't wait. As for mileage, obviously it's down to weather conditions. How much does the heater affect range. Our ZS ev loses 20 miles as soon as the heater is turned on. Which is very often when my wife drives.
    Thanks Miles but ours will be grey!

    • @ChorleyGroup
      @ChorleyGroup  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The car was "on" with heating set to 21c from 9.30am to 6pm. So as well as the driving in poor weather conditions, it also had to keep heating the interior (even when we had the doors open whilst filming interior shots etc) for an extra 3 hours. If we were to just drive constantly at a regular speed on the motorway at say 65mph, I'd imagine we'd have had more range than the 215 miles we acheived on this occasion. -MR

    I often wonder how many times the average person goes 200+ miles? I live in North County, which is North of San Diego CA. 45 miles to San Diego, 20-30 miles to the coast, 70-80 miles to my sisters houses up north and 50 miles to the mountains. Most times you should be able to recharge at your destination (hopefully). It is 100 miles to Los Angeles, but maybe go once a year. Any distance further than that I fly (As next places of interest are San Francisco, Las Vegas or Texas). MG4 nailed it as far as I'm concerned for distance, don't see the need for 300+mile EVs for most people.

      Hello from France, just wanted to say how refreshing it is to hear from someone in the USA who is not wanting a car with 500 mile, 600 mile..etc range ‘before I ever buy one of those things’!!......We’ve had an e-Niro since March 2019 and have been on road trips to the UK, Germany and Suisse...France is a pretty big place too! The summer range is comfortably 400 km (240 miles) driving at autoroute speeds with the AC on...winter maybe 320km...but I never like to drive more than 2 and half to 3 hours before taking a break...so around 250 km is my max in one sitting.

  • @kjh789az
    @kjh789az ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for this honest review - 220 miles real world range sounds about right. Am I correct that even on this high spec Trophy LR model there is no sat nav and we are to use Apple Car Play or Android Auto? This is weird if true as the MG5 estate facelift 2023 model has all its display and screen updated and includes sat nav. No rear wiper, no rear cup holders and that fog light control not on the stalk are silly omissions as is lack of rain sensing wipers. Otherwise, I can testify its fast and hot-hatch in feel. Boot is ok and rear seats fold down 40/60. Boot lip is zero with space under the boot floor for cable storage - neat and practical. First few MG4 come with a type 2 cable, but after that its a free granny cable only - another silly economy. Price? Creeping up for the Trophy .. but its still good value if no longer a bargain. To end on a +ve we get 7 years warranty. Have a quiet word with your camera bod to show us the detail when you talk about it! Thanks.

    At the moment and for the past few years, I’ve been ferrying people to ‘n’ fro hospitals 3-5 times a week; round trips nearest 60mi to furthest 120+mi. The person/s wouldn’t be able wait for any extra time for mid-trip-charging and I can’t charge at home or at their home or at the various hospitals. My nearest public charger is single 50kW, next two nearest public chargers are both single 7kW.
    While I transport others throughout the year, I still need run my own life, plus eat & sleep. Anything less than 200mi even in winter at the drop of a hat and it’s not worth considering. Which is why I’m still driving an ICEd car, even though I’m an EV advocate. I think non-ICEd transport is the future; but at the moment, it’s not for everyone. However, of all the auto manufacturers today, I think the MG & Xpeng brands, are the only ones who’ve recognised, that there a very many people, who care more about the basics with a few would-likes as standard for a reasonable price, than they do about leasing the latest greatest edge of affordability pocket rocket wannabe SUV.

      I would have to disagree. I compared the MG4 with a low mileage 2 year old ID.3 1st Edition and chose the VW. Quality is way superior, ride more predictable, better cabin comfort especially for the rear seat passengers and delivers consistently better miles per kWh
      If you are interested in "style" then buy and MG4 but if you want serene and practical quality including such simple things as a rear seat centre armrest, a third head restraint, a pair of usb charging points and lighting for the rear seat passengers then the MG fails
      "Fashion" dates quickly but quality lasts. The obsession with sporty appearance and style seems the wrong focus to me.

    Charging time is too long and it puts me off buying electric car.

      Rapid charging time to 80% is around 35 minutes. Slower AC charging takes several hours, but ideally done when the car is parked up at home and not being used overnight.

    If an ev gives you 200 consistently,
    That would be plenty for vast majority of us,
    In fact
    Most of us don't commute more than 50 miles a day!
