- So I picked up the Line 6 HX Effects and I gotta say I like it a lot. However I didn't abandon everything. Im using it to integrate with some of my favorite pedals from Strymon, Truetone and EHX. Check out how I used the HX Effects for the very first time.

yeah that vintage digital delay was the biggest surprise for me, i've been all analog/tape delay all the time, but the vintage digital at 12bit/16khz sounds SO GOOD... i've just started selling all of my pedals (except for the expression, and a boost just for simplicity)
Absolutely love the sounds at the end of the vid. The Big Sky is an amazing pedal. Let us know if you think the HX Effects can somehow reach the Sky's presence and "dreamy" effects.

i love your ambient sound. it creates such a big wideness in your songs. the Big Sky is a powerfull reverb / hal pedal with a lot possibilities to creat ambient stuff.
in the near future i would buy me a Big sky but with out Guitar skills it would be pearls before the sows

Just came across this 5 years later. I am interested in the HX effects and looking for demos and critiques. I'm looking to see if this is what I want to get.
I also have a Big Sky. I was wondering if the HX effects has something like it. Do I sell it? My preamp is a Two Notes Le Preamp and Cab M. My delay is a TC Triple Delay. I have a couple of specialty pedals like an EHX C9 and Mel9 which I use sometimes to add more to the band sound.
hey jon are you using a TRS cable for your DUNLOP VOLUME X? going to the EXP 2 input on the HX EFFECTS?
I am struggling with a decision here. I currently have the Big Sky, and the El Capistan as well as a Boss DD7. I want the Timeline but I NEED a comp and such and a volume pedal.
Should I go ahead and get the Timeline and then add the HX effects later? Or run the HX Effects and pass up the Timeline for now?
FYI the high current outputs on the 1spot pro units will power the HX effects just fine. Also the route66 comp is a ross circuit, you might try the SP compressor model on Helix instead (kinky comp).
Alex.Guitars you are right but I can’t power another high current pedal when powering the HX on the one spot pro. Also I’ll check out that comp! Thanks for the input!

The HX replaced my whole analog board. It works great.
What did you do in order to replace your analog board? Did you add a volume pedal and a midi switch? Im looking to getting it as my main rig but I’m thinking of ways to add to it.
When you run out to a real amp do you use drive pedals for distortion or do you run 4 cable method into your amp?

I just replaced my massive pedal board with the Helix about 2 months back, haven't looked back, I still use my BigSky (with expression pedal effecting mix) but its just a dream to use, carry etc and no more fiddling with patch cables, power and stuff. Makes rehearsals, services, events and playing at other church campuses a breeze and consistent
Have you tried getting as close as you can to Strymon reverbs or delays? Much difference?
I just sold my BigSky 2 weeks ago, the updated reverb in firmware 2.60 compare really close to the strymon's, infact I found them to be a bit more manageable

So does using a “command” for the Big Sky mean you can get around taking up an fx loop block?
I just got Hx fx and love it (into my Quilter 45 InterBlock using HX IR’s) but haven’t quite mastered all the functions yet. The verbs are good but I was definitely thinking of getting an additional verb (WET) and throwing it in the second fx loop (I’m using 4 cable method with my real drives and such) and was hoping to not have to take up another block.
Erik Hartley yeah. I’m just using midi to control the Bigsky and then the Bigsky is just last in my entire effects chain of my board.
Can you explain?, how you program the hxfx to turn on and off the big sky?
Yeah sure. The hx effects has the ability to send midi cc’s, program changes, etc. so I just had that one footswitch send basically an on/off midi message to the bigsky.

Can you share what type of cable you use for the hx effects to your voodo lab ps? Have voodo lab 9v 400mh and when I attached the voodo power to hx effect it is not powering on. Do I need a reverse cable polarity?
I’m a health just using the service plug on the voodoo labs and using the native power adapter for the HX effects
Hey Jon, a lot of great work and inspiring for a beginner worship guitarist! I’m curious as to what volume pedal you use now? Is it the Dunlop 4 mini? I saw the Ernie Ball VP Jr’s you used to use but any reason why you changed pedals? I’m stuck trying to find one...I ordered an Ernie Ball Jr for my active guitar and it didn’t work out maybe a blessing in disguise because it wasn’t the right one? I’m in need of some pointers and you seem to know a lot.. God bless you man, good stuff!
Thanks man! Im still using the Dunlop Volume X. I had an Ernie ball and the string broke and I didn't want to deal with it. Also I think Christmas was around the corner and by wife bought it for me so...theres that. haha. But I like the dunlop a lot. Works great.
I have a guitar with active pickups, EMGs, I plan on getting some smaller pedals, would a Dunlop be okay with active pickups and some pedals? There’s so many to choose from and is a bit overwhelming haha you’re inspiring and are the best at what you do, and I’ve watched about everyone on TH-cam!

so with this setup you could just go straight into the FOH? i play at my church as well and sometimes having amps is more complicated than its worth so im trying to figure out how to my board able to run it straight just like i used to with my POD HD500. I have an hx as well and I've seen a few pedals online that are like preamps from Mooer, but i see you're doing it a different way. any recommendations?
As long as you have some sort of pre amp pedal (such as Mooer or Two Notes and such), you can use IR’s in the HX FX for an amazing tone and go direct. Otherwise you have to run it into a traditional amp.

Can the HX not get close or replicate the strymon pedals you have?
might just be that he figures he spent so much money on those strymon he doesn't want to put em in boxes to sit on a shelf. Also, you can control those with the HX b/c of the MIDI

so you didnt like the reverbs and delays from the hx effects enough to totally replace the strymons, are they any good though??
The delays are pretty good. As you can see theres not two Timelines, an el cap and a carbon copy on board any more so I'm pretty happy with what the HX has to offer. Just hadn't played with them long enough to tweak them how I want them exactly so I kept my el cap on there for safe keeping. The Reverbs aren't quite there for me. The 2.6 update made them significantly better, but nothing on there tops the cloud mode in my opinion of the Bigsky
have you had experience with the neunaber immerse? i heard it's very comparable to the bigsky in terms of reverb quality. I really want to get the big sky but it's just a tad too big for me. I kinda prefer the normal pedal format. (unless of course it's a helix since it's all in one)

I just got an HX effects, pay 2.99 for the basic board that worship tutorials sells. take the swells setting and turn the mix down to 8% and its incredible. The new reverbs are actually really good. they actually do a comparrison against the strymon and RV-6

Strymon is just the best in the digital effects department. Got their big trinity (Big Sky, Timeline and Mobius) and still haven't seen or heard anything better or flexible. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Definitely. :)

Daniel Ornelas in my newer set up yes. I’m using a dpc 8ez as a midi powered true bypass looper that my morning glory is in
3 amp power draw I think.
