As a studio musician myself, I did the whole pedal board thing for a while but for me it made no sense to have all my pedals on the floor. Having to always be bent over tweaking them was killing my back, so I built myself a pedal trolley from an Ikea storage trolley thing, and bolted a big piece of wood to the top. Now I have a nice clear space for lots of pedals at once on the board that's really easy to swap pedals in and out, I have my power supply underneath the board with holes drilled into the top for cables so everything is nice and neat, and I have space in the compartments beneath to keep all the pedals I'm not currently using. And it has wheels so I can move it wherever I need to! :P Best thing I've ever built

The cable management alone on that board, makes me want to throw my pedalboard on a bonfire.
Okay, I take that back. I love my pedals like they were my own little battery-powered children.

I finished building my own pedal board over the last year. I followed along with a lot of Mason's content and I built all my own cables, managed everything, planned the signal chain, and purchased everything myself. It felt amazing, and he has been nothing short of a wonderful educator with his fine content! :)

Big respect to people that can manage huge pedalboards on stage, I know damn well I would probably just use my amp for my tone if I ever start gigging.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

that's true. I don't wanna start a fight but that's all you need basically. with many pedals you got many things to go wrong and carry (literally). so having your own amp feels much more like home in tone aspects. pedals are cool, but not so much when you can't play without them. well, that's how I see it. the most important is to have fun with them and enjoy your sound

@ some pedals are kinda necessary though. delay, reverb, fuzz and a boost or overdrive as well as a modulation pedal (univibe, phaser, flanger, chorus, tremelo, etc.) you don’t need all those modulation but generally you need at least 1 drive 1 verb 1 fuzz 1 delay and 1 modulation pedal. Not trying to tell you playing with just and amp is bad or impossible, just that a gigging musician needs quick access to a number of sounds and pedals are the best way to do it (generally speaking)

In the process of building a DIY pedalboard, with a similar layout (and an extended section to the right for my massive volume pedal). For the top level, I'm going to use either some door hinges or a gas hinge, and some butterfly latches on the left and right sides to keep it closed. I love the idea of having a patch bay - I might need to add something similar to mine!

Both of these guys inspired me to do a major pedalboard build this year. Went with a Boss midi switcher foundation, but purposely made the top (dirt) row much more accessible so I could tinker a bit and tailor sounds for a project. That Chase Bliss might put an end to that, though. What else could you need to fill in gaps? That thing is really impressive.

Don't stop dreaming or building pedalboards. We can have one or two a week and that suits me just fine. I am not a publisher nor do i play to an audience anymore, but i still need to change a pedal out every two weeks for some reason. I guess because i can and it is an active hobby. One needs to get to the pedals without tearing an entire board apart. I use some wood i bought and made one. It holds 10 pedal's, and the only direction i seem to dream is more.

My touring pedalboard has been in storage outside various livestreams since March last year, for the same reason you wanted a new one: it’s not modular. In the home studio environment it doesn’t do me much good, I know it’d get pulled apart and then some last minute performance would come up and I’d be scrambling to get it set up for the show again. So it’s stayed put. Upside is that some pedals gathering dust for 5 years are finally seeing some love 😉

Starting to build my first ever pedalboard after years of just having a very very basic setup - amp and Wah and maybe one distortion pedal. I've bought the Boss MS-3 precisely because it can do a lot of what this board does- it's a multi FX but it has three FX loops for external pedals, and a crazy amount of control for such a small unit. Expression pedal, up to 4 footswitches, channel switching on your amp and MIDI too. I'm using one of the loops to run the 4 cable method, allows me to put the amp's gain in the middle of the chain.

The second board is Mason's attempt in creating that hinge. That is a vertex branded pedalboard. It's good, but if it could be brought down lower that would be better. You do run into those risks of "can I tweak this pedal?" Still, I think it's a very intelligent design and I like it.

Added two pedals today to my multi-purpose board. Pedal board replacement cost now exceeds that of bass and 4x12 1000w amp setup.
    ...
    ....
Have yet to even peek down the rabbit hole of guitar and keyboard-specific pedals.
    Mon Dieu!

From watching TPS for as long as I have, even if you don't think you need a switcher, you need a switcher. Just keeps the signal cleaner. They make the quartermaster for a small option instead of the bigger Boss ES8. And always need access to everything, in case things break

Love that red amp jewel on the Polaris, looks cool like an old tube amp vintage vibe.

The HXFX has been the center of my pedalboard since getting one of the earliest ones. Love it. I am curious if you are going to share any of those sounds as you have with your Kemper profiles.

@Rhett Shull ... always interesting when you do these pedal board builds, love it. 👍 ... I see your mission to reduce your reverb usage has gone out the window the same way mine has! Haha ... Would really appreciate a video on how you get your headphone/youtube audio feed and live room sound to translate... I use Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohm headphones... always have a great sound through speakers which translates well everywhere except through the cans ... would love some tips on how you deal with it (and I think many others suffer in the way I do) ... Cheers 😎

also tell your board tech to use the quick detach like they use on rifle scopes..it'll make taking off the top words simpler.

That preamp must be very good. Paul David used a Chase Bliss CXM 1978 in his video.
    Best regards.

I think I like the idea of building a pedalboard even more than actually playing through it. I don’t really use too many effects other than an overdrive pedal and phaser.

Hi Rhett. I enjoy your channel a lot.
This HX effects does change my tube amps tone and feel a lot. I hate it! I would rather have my amp tone and simplistic effects than the other way around.

Still rocking the Jordan 1s I see 😎😎 I love those. Another great sneaker is the Adidas Entrap High Tops. To my foot they feel like Jordan 1s and they are cheaper, both are great sneakers 👍👍

This man is really in a pair of Chicago 1s. He loves this board SO much that he put on $1500 shoes just to stop on it 😂 Respect, Rhett. Nothing but respect!
