The Rodecaster Pro II is a Swiss army knife when it comes to recording podcasts or broadcasting radio - but did you know it's also a powerful device for live streaming?
In this weeks video I show you how to control a multi-camera live streaming setup using nothing but OBS and the Rødecaster Pro II - I know, it sounds like wizardry doesn't it?

Great informative video and options, I know from using OBS in the past, that OBS settings generally save on its own... But what about the Rode device? Is there a way to save those scene trigger settings? Or do you have to set up the Rode everytime you want use those settings? Thanks Again
I will definitely follow this when I get to this level. Very good instructions /
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video James 👍🏿 Can the RCP 2 be configured for radio automation software?
It should in theory work with any midi compatible software
Do the same settings work for podcast streaming?
Please can you same video using ecamm live on how to change scenes using the pads?
Lovely insight. I've seen quite a few reviews about the Rodecaster Pro II with people treating it like it's a audio hardware only and would need other hardware to stream video, such as video switchers... It would be amazing if you did a video focusing on streaming video to TH-cam and social media sites, not just twitch. 🎊
It's really the same if you're streaming to TH-cam or Facebook! Subscribe to the channel for updates. Good luck!
I'm having an issue of lagging with video and audio not being in sync! Did you have that issue or do you know how to fix it?
I was hoping this could replace having to use OBS or Ecam live for line-in sound coming through on a listeners sound system. I see you still would need OBS. Do you know if there is any hardware that removes needing OBS? Perhaps Yolobox?
(Sorry for newbie question I am feeling absolutely LOST)
With the same type of thinking, I use Switcher Studio and to change camera/scene you can use 1,2,3or4 keys on a Bluetooth keyboard on my iPad. Can we use a pad to be the numeral 1 or 2?
How would this work with something like Streamyard and is there a way in either OBS or this gear to manage REMOTE user's individual volumes? I find this to be my biggest issue since many time one or more remote user's mic feed is too hot.
Great! Now I want to do video and I want to buy the new Rodecaster Pro II because that's pretty cool. Wish I made money :-) Maybe I will get the original and save some money and then when I start making money I'll worry about that. It's just catch 22 because video can help a lot to grow a stations presence. What to do? What to do? 🙂
Great tutorial! Will these steps work for the RodeCaster Duo? Thanks
It should
I have one with a podmic and working out how to record from my DSLR to OBS - I am guessing this eliminates the need to sync audio? I have seen a lot of videos where they sync audio later but I want to cut down time and just record everything and have it all together with minimal editing.
Is the Midi thing you did an extension, or plugin for OBS?
This was great, James, especially including the midi-controlled OBS camera scenes. I worked in Public TV years ago and doing this required the services of roughly 12 people at once.
Glad it was helpful!
I am having difficulty having the audio come through to OBS. - The Audio MIDI preferences didn't solve it. Any advice for those steps?
Great video - does anyone have a different midi plugin suggestion? obs-midi 0.9.3-Alpha-3x does not seem to work on MacOS with OBS 29.1.2 the plug in runs but you can not find the plugin when you go to tools. Help please.
Hello my friend! Is it available for M1 chip? I tried to get it but, have not been able to get it. Any suggestions?
Love the information! How do you not have a repetitive screen without a second screen? I am using a Surface Pro 8 for OBS and a Rodecaster Pro 2 and cannot manage to get the screen to single.
Also on OBS, I don’t see the midi option on OBS, even after downloading the link, please help
Question. So i record my video podcast edit then upload to youtube if i wanted to now also stream it on twitch would i have to use another camera for streaming. Or can i use the same camera to stream on twitch and will the video still capture on the sd card to later proceed with my 1st process ??
Depends on your workflow and what you want to produce? You can either record and edit, or stream live and then edit a recorded version after - your choice. We've done both before.
If I am using this to stream a game, will it solve the issue I have of desktop (game) audio bleeding into my mic (Rode NT1 via a Yamaha mg 10xu) connected PC side via usb. Using stream labs currently.
Having an issue loading the plug in for Windows 10, I am getting "the following OBS Plugins failed to load: obs-midi Please update or remove these plugins." Running 29.0.2 (64bit) Any thoughts? trying it with the Rode Caster Pro II
wish I could afford one
Wouah ! I hesitate to buy Atem or/and RodcasterPro - this video show me that RodCaster could win the challenge ! Great. Thx.
How easy is it to use on location, if you were doing a live on site?
It's portable by design. All you need is the relevant cameras and a good enough laptop.
The sound sounds too low when I record with the iPhone :/:/ I want to sing with the guitar and record iphone, but the sound sounds too low ...microphone rode podmic I use...How do I need to do decibel settings and fader :(( I want to raise the sound again after video recording...
Mic : +50 db
Desktop (Mp3) : -12 Db
Can i use a phone as the camera or do i need a web cam?
Can you also use Riverside FM with Rode Caster Pro 2
Yes
James, where's the link to download the obs midi?
was wondering the same thing
Is there a way to record all of the mic input separately in OBS on Mac it just sees it as one stereo mix for me and obs
Yes, there is. Rode help guide says:
To activate multitrack recording, tap the settings cog then ‘Outputs’ > ‘Multitrack’ (by default, multitrack is set to ‘off’)
rode.com/en/user-guides/rodecaster-pro-ii/recording-and-exporting-audio#:~:text=To%20activate%20multitrack%20recording%2C%20tap,set%20to%20'off').
Not sure why the mic audio getting picked up while I stream. No audio is coming through. I have my input and output set in my audio setting but it's not working. Need some help.
James, I know you talk to Rode directly. Something that needs to be worked on is how the RCP2 doesn’t save work when power gets cut off abruptly. They should work on a way to save work if power gets cut off unexpectedly. We lost 45min of our podcast today.
You should be outputting to an external recorder as a back up. That's just common sense.
Yeah, ummm I don't see any of your links in the bio....please help?
idk maybe im stupid but I did not see the link to the github, great vid tho
This control method does not work on mac os. You need to update the video)
It is very buggy. Not worth it
This did not help me at all
