You mentioned adding XLR inputs to the RCP2 for drums as an example. I teach drum lessons and wanted to use 4 mics on my kit (OH right and left, snare, kick). So I added a mixer, the Yamaha MG10XXU. I run the 4 kit mics to it, as well as 2 line inputs from my electronic kit, then route the mixer via XLR to 2 of the XLR inputs on the RCP2. I link them as a stereo channel so they only take up one fader. I run two voice mics, a Heil PR40 as a desk mic, and the Audio Technica BPHS1 headset for moving around the room to the remaining two XLR inputs of the RCP2. Of course this limits the functionality of the multi track recording feature as the drum inputs need to be handled as a sub-mix, bit I'm fine with that for teaching. I also use the USB channels for connectivity to my Mac and iPad and the Bluetooth input for my iPhone, all with mix-minus enabled. Very happy with this rig.

Here for the double-entendres, and I was not disappointed! I've got a bunch of thoughts, so fingers crossed that RØDE is reading your comments section, and apologies in advance for the long comment. Honestly, the RCP2 has been nearly the perfect device for me. My biggest complaint was the power button, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that had been somewhat addressed in newer models (at least in my experience... I had to RMA my original unit due to a software glitch that was unsolvable even with a factory reset, so RØDE sent me a new device, and the power button is miles better than what was on my original unit). The only hardware complaint I have now is the power connector. One thing I appreciated about the TASCAM Mixcast 4 was the locking barrel connector. The USB-C power connector on the RCP2 makes me nervous when I'm using it somewhere other than my own desk.
As far as software goes, I think the main issue I have is with the routing interface. Maybe it's because I don't play around with it enough, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around how inputs/outputs are routed for, say, a streaming setup. If I need to make any changes to channel routing, I feel like I need to draw myself a map every time. To this day, I still think the company that did channel routing the best was TC Helicon with their GoXLR. I probably just need more practice with RØDE's version, but I still miss the GoXLR method. I'd love to see something like that in the RCP2 UI or even in the RØDE Central desktop app.
Another thing I'd like to see is the ability to export effects profiles. Like, if I have an SM7B and I have it live EQ'ed the way I like it on my device, and I visit a friend's studio that is also equipped with an RCP2 and SM7Bs, I'd love to be able to just email him my effects profile and he can download it to his own device, and all I'd need to do is do some minor adjustments for the tone in his studio when I get there. It would also be nice to share profiles with people. I know everyone's voice is totally different from each other, but if someone has a similar resonance to my own voice, and I really like their EQ, it would be awesome if I could use their profile as a starting point for my own setup.
That's all I have at this point. Maybe it's worth sending RØDE all of this in an email...

I have the Rodecaster Duo -- and I'm pretty much happy with it in terms of it's ability to help me to grow in my overall content creation skills. I don't seem to have the headphone latency issue with my unit so I guess I'm fortunate in that regard. However, I do hope that Rode implements NDI on the Rodecasters. The only other issue I have experienced is with Thunderbolt or powered usb ports. Whenever I plug my Rodecaster into a computer which has either of the aforementioned ports -- if for some reason the power supply to the Rodecaster is unplugged briefly -- it becomes difficult to turn the unit back on. So in other words -- if I power down my Rodecaster and disconnect it from power, say, to move some plugs around -- when I reconnect the power with the unit still connected to a computer -- it takes several tries to get it to turn back on. Also, when this condition occurs -- I found that disconnecting the Rodecaster from the port before powering up corrects the issues. Finally, if I plug my Rodecaster into a normal USB port -- the unit functions just fine with no issues. Although things are working pretty well for me with just using a normal USB port -- I would much rather be able to take advantage of the Thunderbolt capabilities of my computers.

I am still waiting for the virtual channels.
I really want the functionallity of my GoXLR.
Ive seen some videos where you can get the OBS functionallity with multiple channels by routing the line out of the pc to the line in of the procaster.
    So there is workarounds.

It feels like the podcast recording case is pretty well covered apart from an automix feature, but for other use cases there's room for improvement.
The given streamer feature is more usb channels. Also, it would be nice with a setup tool which helped set up routing for streaming scenarios, as the number of reddit threads on routing configuration is staggering. (There are surprisingly few videos on routing with the new UI, btw.)
I really like the processing, but the eq could need another three bands. Shelf filters would be nice, too. (Plus an in-depth processing settings section in the users guide, to explain all the neat details in the UI which are already there if you know what to look for.)
Apart from that, I mostly wish a bunch of features which already exist in some form on the device could be available in more places:
    - Processing on submixes - at least comparable to what exists for the main mix.
    - Make it possible to use listen feature on the speaker output (or any headphone), so people who want better headphone amps can bring their own amp.
    - Muting outputs, or muting a specific input going into the output. (So you can get the volume back where you had it set when you unmute.)
    - More automations available from the smart pads, like the previously mentioned muting.
    - Eq on headphone outputs.

Hi, the feature I've been waiting for since day one is a FW that will allow each fader to be assigned a separate PC sound. Currently only audio from USB 1 and USB 2 can be assigned. I need: fader 1 - microphone XLR, fader 2 - game sound, fader 3 - spotify sound, fader 4 - internet browser sound number 1, fader 5 - internet browser sound number 2, virtual fader for total volume output and all using USB channels. Whether this can be achieved with a new FW or a new HW RCP3 has to be created I don't know but these features are what I need every day. It's something else to do the podcast and live stream. In stream I need to work with multiple sounds on faders at once. I would like to see routing like GoXLR has.

I wont buy one till this is a thing, waiting and waiting for virtual routing... like the GO XLR that is still on my desk waiting to be replaced. But with the GO XLR's recent update.. It's still holding strong!

I like it. No, I love it.
But man do I still prefer the look of the first one. It looked more streamlined and a bit nicer to have on camera.
Tho my main two feature request would be master channel effects and specifically a three or four band multiband compressor (on the master.) It's THE Thing that makes radio today the sound that it is.
Hardware wise, I''d love motorized faders on a superduper elite pro version. Both so it can be used for post production and using live. I love my automations from my live sound/radio days and I'd love seeing that come down to this podcasting gear.
We already have MIDI control with the faders, but I'd love some visual feedback back from automation.

Here are a few ideas for updates Rode could make I can think of after buying, using and reviewing the Rodecaster Duo.
1- More virtual channels (2 on USB1 and 1 on USB2 are just too few)
    2- Full NDI compatibility
    3- A more versatile EQ
4- A more versatile ducking option. The current one only allows you to customize its depth and it triggers with ANY little noise caught by the microphone.
5- Adding some functionality to pressing the monitor knobs. Right now, pressing the knobs does nothing.
I like my RCD, don't get me wrong, but Rode sure left a lot of its potential on the table by following the trend of "launch now, fix later... maybe".

I trialed the RPC2 and while I really liked it.... I ended up going with the Mackie DLZ. Granted, the DLZ has a lot of catching up to do, but the unit looks better, and seems to be targeted more to music creators as well as podcaster/content creators. The Procaster 2's headphone latency issue was frustrating, but i know Rode will eventually fix it. I just preferred the mackie DLZ's build and design for what I use it for which is more targeted at music creation. I would however love Mackie to enable support for wireless mic's like the Rode does, now that was REALLY cutting edge. Kudos to Rode for an almost perfect unit, but mackie JUST pipped it for me.... and I mean JUST.

The original Rodecaster Pro didn't turn into a pillar of salt, either! Though I wish they'd added this stuff on the first version. It literally is a radio station board in a box. Good review, my friend. (But if we keep seeing a purple background can Barney yelling "Supercardiod" be far behind?)
:). There was one viable competitor of sorts to the original RCP and this, too, and that's the Zoom P4 which is in need of an update. Is it as good as the RCP line? Depends. For a fraction of a price you can do a podcast with phone and in-person interview capability. The battery life sucks so I plug mine in. Maybe it's 80% - 85% as good for podcasting. My praise for the delicate and battery hungry P4 does not extend to the P8. The wannabe RCP's didn't come close to the original,

Main problem with Rode for me is their total lack of commitment to accessibility. I can understand that the touchscreen is hard to make accessible for a company like Rode, but since you can configure almost anything using their applications for Mac or PC, they could have at least make something of an attempt to make those applications accessible.

32......floating bits. Would it be robust enough for field work? Colleagues of mine that also do some "church" work aren't going to swap out or integrate a Rodecaster into their existing infrastructure. Music recording studios aren't rushing to move this into their spaces. Are they? It's probably more than the home content creator needs. It's probably adequate for the would be podcaster who needs a couple of microphones and a remote source for a mix minus. But is it truly revolutionary? It actually seems quite niche. Well funded at home content creators......but short of the broadcast or pro community. The colours and lights do make it look childish. In some ways more flash than substance. An expensive toy that is out of reach for many while not truly being pro.
But it did solve some problems that I have encountered. A pretty easy to use setup that combines an audio board with multiple inputs as a stand alone board or an interface. You have to appreciate that. A little large if I only need one microphone. Battery powered for field work? Not easily I wouldn't think. It would probably work fairly well for me. But I'm probably pretty close to their fairly niche customer base. Professional training....but I'm not going to set up a full pro/broadcasting facility in my home on my own dime. Of course I want to separate myself from the young influencer with no formal training.
