Red Dot Forum Camera Talk: Show Us Your Leica Kit - Round 3

  • Join Leica experts Josh Lehrer and David Farkas as they bring together two favorite topics: “What’s in Our Bag” featuring favorite gear of the Leica Store Miami team, and “Show Us Your Kit” where they react to user-submitted Leica kits.
    They will comment and geek out, offering up suggestions for adding to, paring down, or making changes based on each setup. Or maybe just gush over some unique camera or lens that they wish they had. Plus, you'll get to see what our team is using this year.
    How to Submit
    =======================
    Submissions are welcome before the livestream.
    Briefly tell us about your kit, what kind of photography you're into, any challenges you're having or goals you want to achieve, and maybe some changes you're thinking about making.
    Make sure to include a high resolution picture of your Leica kit - whether it’s a camera-in-hand shot of your favorite single-lens setup or a lay flat of your entire kit with accessories, snacks and all.
    Images should be in JPEG format and at least 2000 x 3000px, or 6MP. If pictures are too low resolution, we can't use them. Remember, we broadcast in full 4K so we need all those glorious pixels.

    I absolutely, definitely promised to sell the 50mm Summicron when I ordered the new Summilux, but then… easier said than done. The 50 lux is brilliant in all ways, but the 50 cron has it’s own unique look that I really like. Selling the M10-R to fund the 75 nocti is brilliant. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!

      What's the model number of your Summicron?

    • @gregspov
      @gregspov 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jordohayes it’s the Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 (V5), Black - 6-Bit (Germany). I think the actual model number is 11826. You have to be careful because not only are there earlier versions e.g. v4 without retractable lens hood, but there also is a current v5 that is made in Portugal instead of Germany. The Leica website lists both versions. I just posted a video that talks about the 50 cron on my channel.

    Many thanks to David and Josh for featuring my Leica Kit. Amazing that you able to identify my lenses, camera bodies and cases, without me mentioning them. (Yes, they are both Patek purchased from my AD). Great advice and feedback.
    Jose missed my questions in the chat: How many years does it take to brass the black paint MP, with normal/light use? Where can I find a shoe cover for the MP? Does the D-Lux 8 make sense for a Q3 owner?

    • @lottic
      @lottic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first question is answered at 1:16:41.
      There are no dedicated shoe covers for the MP/M6. Personally I use cutouts of the film box and some sticky foam or velcro to cover the hotshoe (and to tell me what film is in the body - see 1:33:45). You can also purchase a third-party hotshoe cover at Japan Camera Hunter.
      The D-Lux range - at least the D-Lux 7 is a rebranded Panasonic LX100 II. The approx 24-75mm FOV in a compact body is a nice-to-have, but it is worlds apart from what your Q3 can do in terms of image output (let alone your M11). I suppose another question to ask yourself is - if you saw an LX100 III (theoretically) for sale with that amazing kit you have already, would you buy it?

    Thanks David and Josh, for your observations on my kit around the 2:00 mark. Yes, I left out my TLR (and some other stuff) because I thought the focus should be on Leica. I never thought I'd get back into Leica after selling all my M gear in the early 2010s. The two screw-mounts in the photo are all that remain. I couldn't find them the day the buyer showed up at my house and bought it all! I agree I should eventually add modern glass but man...do I love the vintage stuff. I've also got some classic eastern bloc M42 glass from Zeiss, Meyer-Gorlitz and of course a Helios 44M. When I eventually come around to getting something newer, I'll probably look in the 50 or 35mm focal length, probably at f/1.4.

    I have a question: Do you guys ever do shows about some of the "lesser" Leicas? Like the D-Luxes, and the V-Luxes? Those cameras got me into Leica and its quality, and extremely excellent glass and color science. I bought my first Leica 13 years ago, and Ive become rather obsessed. Bought a Q3 this spring, and am looking at a Q2 monochrome in the not too distant future, but I still pull out my Titanium finish D-Lux 4 to run around town, or my V-lux 114 if I need a super long zoom.

    Love to see more kits and bags used by women. I'm at the 42 minute point and only seeing men's gear. I keep looking for the ideal bag. Most commercial camera bags are too heavy, bulky and thick/fat and not really easy to open - all those straps etc. I end up using a padded insert tossed into my purse/backpack tho this is not ideal. I like to carry 2 M's and 2 lenses, one carried crossbody and then other in a backpack. Suggestions appreciated. I learn a lot from your sessions, thanks for all the good nerdy info!

    Do you recommend the 90mm 2.8 (ver 11807) over the 2.0 (ver 11136)? If so, if prices are equal, which is preferable?

    Konica had a Konica Hexar - M mount camera and lenses. I once ordered a used Leica 28mm Elmar from a well known used camera store and received a Konica 28mm M mount lens by mistake. They looked very similar. I returned it because they had charged me the Leica Elmar price.

    Loved the show. On an aside, have you done anything with the new Leica, Leica Lux app?

  • @arrangearrange
    @arrangearrange 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This adapter is not all it’s cracked up to be. 1. Floating lens element lenses don’t play nice at close focus because the lens elements actually have to move for the lens to work properly. 2. Heavy lenses not only aren’t ideal, they’re going to wear out the motor faster. Techart has a weight limit. 3. You need a Sony or Nikon z camera to use one, which is suck lol. Just kidding but I don’t own those systems personally and I share the interests in a Leica L version (despite 1 and 2).

    OK. Laugh if you want but many of your customers are older (Leica gear is pricey and buyers tend to be on the "older side" ) and if you guys could pay a bit of attention to the cadence of your speech it would be helpful. No problem for younger viewers but slowing down just a bit would be helpful to all. I realize you are not professional "broadcasters" trained in speech so just a comment that I hope you find helpful. Josh in particular speaks at an incredibly fast rate when he "gets on a roll"

    The more in love you are with camera gear, the more irrelevant you are as a photographer.
    So, you collected cameras to impress people amd as a topic of conversation. Other than your buying power, I dont see the point .
    Maybe, after the fever have passed, you ought to try computerized toilets,,,,,,,that would raise serious eyebrows.
