I was a crew member in the '70s on the Big U (SS United States), the Indy (SS Independence), and the Connie (SS Constitution). We generally had four men to a focsile, iron bunk beds, and two tall gym lockers. No TVs. Public showers and no buffet. A slop chest that served only beer, no washing machines, and definitely no organized crew parties. Past 7 pm on most ships I sailed the menus were set... cold leftovers from above deck, beef tongue, and Puerto Rican Caviar (beans and rice). I thought I had it soft compared to my father who sailed Liberty Ships during WW2. I know it's a tough life working seven days a week but I'm amazed at how luxurious these small cabins are compared to when I sailed passenger ships as crew.. Fair winds and following seas all.
I was a crew member for years (on Disney) and if anything was broken it was reported and then fixed (sometimes it took weeks) but never moved into a room with broken mirror or drawers. I'm sorry you had some broken things!
You should see my cabin right now 😂 I'm only 1 month away from going home, I can't wait to sleep on a big bed, lol! Also, thanks for this notes, cause I'll do my cabin tour soon. 220th subscriber 👌
Very informative contents 🍸 Thanks for sharing. I am about to work as an onboard solo artist (opera singer), but I was told that I would be sharing a cabin with someone ...
You must be on a royal carribean ship, cabins are tiny, when i worked on princess 2003 as a musician I shared a cabin and cabin was about same size as guests inside cabin, our beds bunkbeds same size as yours, but bathroom same as guest size, cabin size larger, I worked in 4pc lounge band I'm a female Keyboardist lead vocalist from USA, so if you have room steward which we chose not to have to pay for someone to clean our cabins we cleaned our own, towels we took down/got new clean towels maybe every 3-4days dry clean was free for our outfits, we had refrig/same size as yours, soaps I brought to last for 6mos contract lol. So are you solo guitar singer? what ship how long is your contract? maybe if we cruise as guests we will see you & which ship are you on? thanks for sharing video.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. yes, I am a solo guitar vocalist. It use to be a Royal Caribbean ship but I they sold it to the company I worked for (Which I rather don't mention so I can be 100% honest on my videos)
When I was on my one and only 10 day cruise (as a passenger), the biggest drawback for me was : no regular radio, TV, newspaper, AND (the worst, or the best depends on how you look at it) no internet. ps. 100th sub.
You didn't show us the way outside and from which floor the crew cabins are. If the cruise is in a storm or heavy rain, will the cabin crew be aware and how does it effect the cabin.
I'm sorry. I wasn't allowed to film everywhere. Hopefully I will on my new ship (soon). And don't worry, these ships can handle the seas really well! You wouldn't even notice except for the fact that the ship would be a bit rocky
I'm still 15 years old. My brother will be working on a cruise ship in like 3 months. I am having interests to also work in a cruise ship. I would say my english is decent and it would be good enough to do daily conversations (English is not my first language). But i do have my concerns so if any crews or former crews are here, your help would mean a lot. So first, what are the medical checkups to work in a cruise ship? I personally have some concerns. I have some crooked teeth and also have keratosis Pilaris (Both of which are fixable but won't be easy haha). Second, I am worried about one major thing, and that is my social life. As a teen who spent a huge portion of my life in my home with very little social life because of Covid. I stutter quite a lot when saying repetitive words. I always say those words too fast so it almost becomes hard to know what I'm saying Third, i am an introvert. Even though I'm not badly introverted, sometimes during a conversation i don't know what to say or what to choose the topics of the talks are Fourth, How is the daily expenses on cruise ships? I know the food and cabins are free, but how is the other stuffs like Wifi, and etc? Especially that I'm looking to work as a food service which have a low pay compared to others Lastly, what is the work time? What is the time you spend at work daily? I've heard that sometimes it's around 8-16 hours a day and 7 days a week which is quite a lot but still manageable So yeah, that's about it, if anyone's reading this please give some advice haha
This guy is super spoiled. I say that as I worked for Princess Cruises on ships which are still on their fleet. Musicians/entertainment DO NOT work at all compared to any other department. My cabin was HALF the side of that one and I shared it with someone. On top of it, bathroom was shared with other cabin so yeah, 4 of us on one bathroom sucked. What a brat.

Lots of direct blunt and inappropriate questions on this thread and you were patient and polite. Well done
Thank you!

I worked on Carnival as a DJ and had to share in the tiniest cabin. Then I switched to port shopping guide and ended up with my own.

He is charming. I also work for a cruise line, but shoreside. I could NEVER sail in that cabin because of a slight case of claustrophobia.
Thanks! Yeah, no the best for claustrophobic people :(
Thanks for the crew cabin tour. Would be cool if you could access the ships virtual porthole stream. :)
Amazing ❤
Return the hangers to make the cabin steward job easier!
It's ok, cabin stewards are used to it

Thanks! Yeah no internet is a big downside. There's always WIFI onboard but it's not the best.
What type of musician are you?
If you a Special hired entertainer, or the " Star" of a show do you get a better cabin ?
Yes. There are different guest acts every week, they get passenger cabins and privileges.
I was searching for video about a cabin for crew but found something more. And hi, I'm your new subscriber🙂
