Would you use this window? Oh and if you have any theories why they didn't remove the ash trays... let me know. ❤😇 Oops, I made a mistake in this video, I said my cabin cost £809pp but that's not right, my cabin was £709pp and my parents balcony was £809pp. BARGAIN! (That's why I took a transatlantic in January but it isn't something I'll be doing again). 🤢⚓ If you've read this far, comment 'PADDLING POOL' in honour of my shower. 😂😂
I saw on another video that aeroplanes retained their ashtrays. This is because even though people aren’t supposed to smoke on flights they DO sometimes still light up & then if there is no ashtray they tend to stuff the cigarette into the waste paper holder which in turn causes fire. So ashtray’s were left on for safety. not the same thing here as what you showed was a soap 🧼 dish, but I thoughtan interesting titbit anyway 😊 Paddling pool 😊
I think they just left the ash try because it would look bad with something not there or with just a patch over where it was, and the cost of remodeling one part isn't worth it when they might as well as remodel the whole cabin for a full finished look.
omg! When I saw Bright Sun Travels review of the Queen Mary 2 and when he mentioned the inside cabins with windows I immediately thought of you! I definitely didn't expect a review this soon though. You must have just missed each other!

I've done 10 crossings on QM2, and love the ship (obviously)! I got an "Atrium View" cabin just one time, paying much more for it than you did, and decided than it was not worth it. I travel by myself, so an inside cabin makes the most sense. I have NEVER had the problem of staff moving beds, after they know my preference, though they've missed my advance request of "beds apart" a number of times. The steward always fixed this quickly.
You know of all the times I’ve been aboard QM2 I’ve never seen inside one of these inside-view rooms. So thank you so much for sharing. I remember back in 2003 when they were preparing to put the ship into service, these rooms were considered to be quite unique. They were heavily featured in marketing materials as having an innovative and unique view into the Grand Lobby. The ship was so big and so grand in 2003/04 that almost everting about it had wow factor - these rooms included.
Have never been Trans Atlantic, but your travelogues are always interesting. You’ve whetted my appetite as I will be boarding Celebrity Beyond on 3 Feb for Panama Canal and the ABC Islands. Counting the minutes…
Cruised the Pacific Coast - LA to Vanc in 2023 and was sick the entire time. Quite rough seas. Then did Vancouver - Hawaii & back in 2024, some rough seas but was perfectly fine. Loading up extra on Bonine seems to work best for me.
I was on this crossing with you and also got pretty seasick on day 3, although I got my sealegs after that. Considering this was my first cruise ever it was risky doing a winter transatlantic crossing, but I figured it would be a good story either way. I spotted you a couple of times but didn’t want to bother you while you were with your family. Hope you had some fun times on board!
Ooo, so glad you were okay! Never worry about bothering me!! That's a heck of a first cruise ha ha, they're not all like this promise!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼

Definitely designed as an ashtray. The little cutouts at the front are for cigars. They may have kept it for use with soap. I'm not sure why else they wouldn't have removed it years ago
I'd love to do a trans Atlantic cruise but I wouldn't want that weather! We had a shower drain back up once and we told the steward - it was fixed that day.
Thanks for your British-isms. In the US washcloths have a very looped fabric so they dry out faster very unlike the soft fabric of flannel I associate with winter pajamas. Thanks for letting us tag along on your cruises. ♥
I had the same problem before -- i was missing a nightstand on MSC, so pushed the bed away from the wall to give me more room to walk and put my nighttime stuff. Everyday our room steward moved it back. My way actually lined up with the headboard.
Carnival has offered me a few “upgrades”. Their idea of an upgrade is moving from deck 6 or 7 to deck 9. Same sized balcony room, just closer to the action, so they say. What I think it really means is they can’t sell the cabins right under the buffet area where you can hear carts rolling across the floor all the time so they try to manipulate you into thinking it’s an upgrade.
Coconut... ugh!! We cruised on Ovation of the seas last summer. We had a balcony but we looked in an internal room with the "Virtual balcony" which looked pretty cool!
Emma, sorry you were seasick on this voyage. Our very first "cruise" was a transatlantic crossing on QM2, but we had smooth seas. Thanks for your video!

My wife and I had a cabin on QM2 way forward, with a porthole instead of window, very bouncy. We had a big tub. Our son had an interior cabin, mid ships. We also had bad weather, to be expected in the Atlantic in winter. Our trip was in 2011, Southampton to NYC.

We took the QM2 to England in 2006, so I will always think of it as new. We went in July - much less turbulence. I enjoyed it (we all had balcony cabins), but I really did feel trapped.
We had an inside room for a 26-day cruise on deck 6. Unfortunately a lot of noise from the Kings Court buffet preparation area above you. We'll miss them, but definitely a lot less to pack.
26 days! WOW! That's amazing. We did consider that but if my bed went further towards the bathroom my brother was trapped, ha ha. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruises We went to Norway from NYC, roundtrip. I guess the difference on the bed arrangement is that ours were set up port-to-starboard and yours forward to aft. They may have been at one time but nowadays they’re made from terry-towelling. In my family they are often called face flannels but just flannels is common.
Emma, we were on the same cruise. Our shower had the same problem and we asked our steward if it could be addressed. It was fixed right away. Someone we had dinner with mentioned seeing you. We’ve been watching your videos for some time now so it has been great seeing your perspective. It was our first QM2 cruise and we loved it! We lucked out not being sea sick and want to do it again. Living in Brooklyn makes it so convenient.
Hi Emma, I enjoyed your video, thanks. I do like the window and would have used it. Once, I had an inside cabin with a window overlooking the promenade on an RC ship -forgot the name though. 😊
That's so interesting to me that Cunard provides washcloths! I once saw on a travel forum some Americans asking why none of the British hotels they stayed at provided them, and the Brits were all "eww I would never use a flannel other than my own" 😮 The Americans were confused as they were like "but they're laundered and clean" 🤔 but it didn't seem to matter. So interesting to hear they're not universally disdained 😂
We did a cruise last year on the Wonder of the Seas with an “inside balcony” overlooking Central Park. It was ok but I would have preferred an Ocean View (not balcony). I just want to be able to see the ocean. If I want to be outside, I’ll go to one of the public decks.
this is the only cruise I am interested in, the opportunity to sail to the UK and arrive and enjoy the country with out three days of Jet lag sounds wonderful. I have no interest in being herded like cattle around ports of call etc. just is not appealing. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I thought this was going to be similar to the Royal Caribbean promenade vuew but it's nothing like it. On the RC prom view you have a full bay window with a window seat so you really can sit and watch life go by. This window looks a bit pointless.
They really should put some kind of one way mirror or other privacy screen on those windows then you could have the light and view without worry of being seen or seeing somebody else at the wrong moment.
Yup we forgot to pack our wash cloths last summer on our trip to UK and France. Had to make a quick trip to the pound store for a five pack of flannels.
I've taken a couple of North Atlantic cruises in January, but they were on a submarine courtesy of the Navy and the weather was almost always bad. On one particularly memorable week we were taking constant 15-30 degree rolls and had to tape ourselves into our bunks. No fancy dress, though...
I have done 1 trans pacific and 2 trans atlantic and I will be again in April for the 3rd time. I like the sea days. I feel disconnected from the rest of the world.
Your cablin look really nice and I appreciate the upside down sockets, but the slow drain in the shower would be a tad irritating to be standing in water like a PADDLING POOL. I think I would use the window but with the blinds only partly open. I love Gin-Gin chews and they are a fantastic ginger helper for a queasy stomach. As far as fresh air is there a way to have access to some after they close the decks off or would bringing a fan (if you are allowed) be your best option for this situation?
Ha ha, love it. They're SOOOO strong those things, burnt my mouth ha ha. You usually can bring a small fan, but yeah if you've got an inside cabin and the outside decks are closed you can't get any fresh air normally. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I want to make a crossing on an ocean liner at least once. But I want it to be a real crossing. Meaning, I'm going to the UK for a vacation or work after the crossing. I don't want to cross on the ship then immediately fly back (or vice versa).
We heard a noise a few times but it took me about 5 days to work out that it might have been from the buffet, certainly wasn't bad noise and was usually just as we were going to bed. I assume they were moving trolleys or something. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Gee, Miss Emma, what ship were you sailing on ?? You never said the words Queen Mary II in your video here !! I guess we just needed to see the video itself to divine her name !! he he he he he he
It’s not a cruise, it’s a voyage. They can do it in 6 nights if they go at full speed. I guess they want you to spend more money on drinks. When I did it, it took 7 nights.
Clogged shower drains are completely unacceptable in any accommodation, not to mention completely unsanitary. It points to poor maintenance and attention to detail. That definitely puts me off of Cunard.
I understand this thought process, and agree, that’s gross and the shower definitely should not back up like that.. but as someone who knows how to fix most things, preemptively un-clogging hundreds of shower drains is not done. If a shower isn’t properly draining, but no one ever reports it to staff, how are they going to solve the problem and fix it?? It’s probably just pipe trap clogged with hair/debris, generally a quick easy problem to solve.
@@GarrettKoval - it does make you wonder if the cleaning staff ever clean the shower area since presumably they have to turn on the water to do so (and would therefore observe the lack of drainage).
Would you use this window? Oh and if you have any theories why they didn't remove the ash trays... let me know. ❤😇

Was that Captain Hudson on the river Hudson 😊
We were in 50 foot waves on Holland America Westerdam from Japan to Alaska.
Is it right that QM2's medical staff can still give you medicine for seasickness?
Yess absolutely, they have a medical centre onboard. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
We are sailing in this cabin early March. Did you encounter any noise from the buffet area above?
We heard a noise a few times but it took me about 5 days to work out that it might have been from the buffet, certainly wasn't bad noise and was usually just as we were going to bed. I assume they were moving trolleys or something. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@EmmaCruises, I don't believe that's an ashtray in the bathroom 8:16 I think it's a soap dish for a bar of soap.
reminds me of royal carribbean's Prominade view Interior
Yeah kind of, good fun! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Gee, Miss Emma, what ship were you sailing on ??
You never said the words Queen Mary II in your video here !!
I guess we just needed to see the video itself to divine her name !!
he he he he he he
Emma, maybe it was The pianist from the Titanic, you never know!
Is the Atlantic rougher in the winter months?
Yeah, well its just how the weather is but normally worse in winter :) Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@EmmaCruises On another note enjoy your Britishism of the week.
Would you ever consider going "cruising" on a Japanese or Nordic ferry?
It’s not a cruise, it’s a voyage. They can do it in 6 nights if they go at full speed. I guess they want you to spend more money on drinks. When I did it, it took 7 nights.
I've never seen it written until now so I always thought you were saying Q-nod instead of Cunard. lol
Ha ha how funny! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
PADDLING POOL
Ha ha ;)
I love a transatlantic but I'm not sure I'd go in January..... You don't seem to have had much luck with your winter cruises weather wise
A cruise from the Caribbean to Europe is much nicer. The Atlantic was like a "duck pond", the weather was wonderful and the price was very low.
AND carrying fancy dress . . . AND next to yer snoring bro??
(His wife signed up that gig, I didn't) Now THAT was an adventure !!
😂😂😂😂
