I have almost 40 years instructor experience, both in the military and as a civilian contractor. I have to say your instructional skills are second to none, very impressive. I enjoyed watching the entire video and feel confident I can rebuild a magneto.
Excellent presentation, thank you both for your time and keeping "fix it " tradition alive in this day of throw it away and buy another one....The biggest Environmental scam today is the "designed obsolescence" practiced by all companies today.
Beautiful. I also produce a lot of videos on restoration at Resto-Rat. Yours are awesome. And I nice seeing a young lady that is knowledgeable. My daughter and I restored a 1971 Dodge Challenger for her first car. She had 400 hours in an 800 hour build and knows more about cars than most of my car buddies. Very good.
She’s got me wanting to go buy a Farmall tractor just to work on it. So I can buy parts from farmtractorepair Needless to say it would probably never run again after I got done with it.
As always, a great video!!! While you deservedly receive many compliments on your natural wholesome beauty, you are first and foremost a very talented instructor and mechanic that remains mindful of the trepidation many have to diving into repairs. I had to sort this repair out on my own with my Cub, which had been parked years before. Since I had never opened up a magneto before, I only had a vague idea of what was inside, much less how/why it functions as it does. This tutorial surely would have saved me hours on the repair, as I’m sure it will do for others when facing a similar. I recently inherited 3 Ford series 600 tractors that have sat for years and apparently vandalized. As such I’m scouring your back catalogues of videos on Fords of that era trying to soak it all up before I have a floor full of parts that I’m only 50/50 on whether I can reassemble. Thank you for all you past, present and future assistance on keeping the old tractors in repair and functional.
You are the best at explaining a repair than anyone I've seen. You have inspired me to look for a Cub that I can use in my garden and tinker with. I am actively looking for a Farmall. I'm looking forward to your next video. All the best to you from an old retired contrator. When I growing up we had a 100 then a super A and I also used the 130 quite a bit.
Thanks for your awesome videos! Im dreaming of finding a old Female Cub now that I have some land, and your videos are giving me the knowledge and confidence to maintain it once I find one. I will purchase your book, as I see it is a priceless wealth of knowledge with not only the illustrated maintenance and repair, but a complete history of the Formal line up! Thanks your channel is amazing and I look forward to catching up on all the videos!
Great tutorial. I never go that far into them, because it is not usually necessary. I know why you did was to teach how to do it if need be. One thing you may not be aware of, The W-9s and diesel tractors use the H4 magneto but they have a left hand impulse. The impulse is the opposite on them. That's why the hydraulic pump on the gas 400 and 450 have the opposite ports to their diesel counterparts, because the gas tractors and diesels rotate in opposite directions.
I just want to say that I love your videos, after a lot of looking I found you guys and love it. Also thanks for spending time with emails, and other helpful advice. I won’t shop anywhere else. Thanks again.
Wow! Very, very impressed by your skills! Amazing! I love these old Farmall tractors - We had a few of them on the farm at home when I was young! Best wishes from Québec - A.
You made that look so easy! Maybe it’s just me but you got 7minutes into the video before you said you might need impact driver. I guess the machine I worked on years ago was just stored outside it’s entire life:). Good video
Hey Rachel. Thanks for all the detailed instructional videos. Im restoring my grandpas super a. Ive rebuilt the distributor and am struggling to understand the timing procedure. Do y'all have a video on that subject? Thanks
Hi Rachel i have been following your videos for quite a while,i cant imagine how much time you put on offering some detailed tutorials on farm machinery,i bought a lamborghini premium 1060 tractor ,it has some hydraulic problem the three point lift would come down after lifting, one cannot see any fluid leaking but it looses its position overnight, its weak in lifting as well, kindly i need some details guidlines on how to fix this problem thanks in advance
I was always told the heart and soul of a magneto is strong magnets you can put in every thing else brand new and it still won't be to good with weak magnets
In order to get the impulse off, you MAY, need to hold the shaft from the SMALL END, with your adjustable wrench, or it will just turn and turn while you try and loosen the nut.
I like this. I have at least one question, my question is do you have John Deere parts also? I like the model A’s and B’s with the hand start. I like spinning that flywheel and running around closing the cylinder bleeds. Thanks for your time. Take Care
Great job! You are really easy to understand. Question: I just converted my old TD9 International dozer from a coil based spark to a magneto. Very easy change over. You might know that these start on gas and then run on diesel all on the same engine. Is there a problem with not using the ground kill wire on the magneto? I mean, it switched over to the injector pump and when I kill the motor I just shut down the injector pump. So is there any harm in letting the magneto spark all the time even though I am not running on gas?
When checking the switch for continuity, be aware that some meters beep with any reading below 50 ohms and other meters below 100 ohms. You should also look at the meter and verify you are reading below 1 ohm. Your probes and the connection to the switch may add 1 maybe 2 ohms. The beep just tells you there is"some" current flow..
@Todd Orton Yes that or just read the resistance on the ohm meter.. We change and throw away plenty of relays that have contacts of 2 or 3 ohms because they won't start a motor or because of the contact resistance they heat up and start melting the case. With a switch you may be able to shoot some contact cleaner in there and get it to work for a bit.. (if you can get the solvent into the switch).
Greatings from Poland :) I like this Channel because i love old tractors. Especially this small.. Small size and power such a Ford Golden Jubile. I olso a great fan a Ursus tractors - this are polish tractor. Couple of this tractors were testing in tractor Institute in Nebraska. It was Ursus c325, c328 and c335. Im wondering-do you have any of this tractors near by to you? Maybe you repearing someday a Ursus model :)
I see this video is 3 years old but I have a question about my magneto on my H. I've replaced everything in the magneto like the coil, points, condenser also i have replaced both the cover and distributor cap along with new wires and plugs but still no spark any idea what the issue could be?
My h4 was converted to external coil . The original coil was removed. I would like to return it to magneto. My question is:. What is special about the core. I don't have a core for the coil. Can I make one on the lathe? For now I am using it will the external coil but would love to go back to original.
Merry Christmas i have a question there is a Ford 8340 4 × 4 there is a problem with the hydraulic pump according to the seller Wheels 70% 4 × 4 Not working Could be pump delay or Solonid is it worth it to buy easy to fix or not
I have a 51 Harry Ferguson to-30 and i have replaced condenser, coil, cleaned the points well ,replaced all plugs and it has been converted to 12v and I turn the ignition on the coil gets warm but it won’t spark what is wrong I have a distributor btw
I always hated trying to shut off our H Farmall if it was a little wet out. I would go to push the kill switch in and get a good shock. We replaced our mags with Delco Remy distributors. We weren't purists.
If the switch is worn, it can tickle you. when you shut the tractor off. Delco Remy distributors were optional. I am fine with either. If you had a good switch, you wouldn't get tickled.
My Dad's brother was just start putting parts in a line then follow the parts back. ===== I would kick them everywhere I did that . Your gears I dropped the distributor in completely 180 on a 71 Chevy and they said it worked just as good at Sears. ( But No )
Are in propane didn't have a magneto but a case tractor 🚜 did. I never touch the propane much . ===== They had a filter that was all it needed at tractor supply ( I cleaned ) ==== It has a John Deere needle valve in it means it the other one hopped off and ran away with the moon or spoon 🥄 but a little Teflon and it runs good. You can't buy another needle valve cuz they say you don't need one
Why didn’t you mark the mag so that you could put it in the right timing I have seen Tractors have dots with the center punch so that they get put back in the same place
I have almost 40 years instructor experience, both in the military and as a civilian contractor. I have to say your instructional skills are second to none, very impressive. I enjoyed watching the entire video and feel confident I can rebuild a magneto.
The world needs a lot more of your intelligence, empathy and caring. Your videos are of the best quality. best wishes.
Do you sell water pumps for J D tractors
The Magneto snaps and the condenser is good
Took off Magneto condenser and now no spark
Does the Magneto need to add magnetism
Anyway it ran fairly good in 2021
There is a really lucky man somewhere that gets to have a beautiful tractor technician like you on his arm to show off to the world
Good call on the switch. I've seen people rebuild working magnetos only to find, later, that the switch was bad.
One amazing lady with top instructor skills
Excellent presentation, thank you both for your time and keeping "fix it " tradition alive in this day of throw it away and buy another one....The biggest Environmental scam today is the "designed obsolescence" practiced by all companies today.
This is the most informative instructional and educational video of rebuilding a magneto I’ve ever seen. Excellent job, I’ll be ordering an impulse.
I haven't owned or needed a tractor in nearly 50 years, but after watching a few of your excellent videos, I'm tempted to buy one.
This video saved my tractor from being flipped in a valley and forgotten about, thank you
Excellent job and she has specific details for proper trouble solving
I watch a lot of how to videos on TH-cam and this was probably top 5 best I’ve seen. Helped a lot thank you

Hey Rachel good job , I've worked on them mags before in the past can be tricky we're great when you didn't have a battery !!
Great videos, love those old tractors grew up on a 1946 M and have been sowing wheat with it this week. Best of luck in all that you do!
Rachel, you simply AMAZING. Your videos exceptional 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Rachel, you're so compelling and interesting you make me want to buy parts kits...and I don't own a Tractor, Farm, or any farm equipment. ;)
Thank you for your continued uploads. Nothing quite like working on a bright red tractor during the Christmas season 🎄
Happy New Year 😉

Please give a video on the repair of the combined harvester.
Merry Christmas to y’all from Collinwood Tennessee 🎄🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I loved your videos, keep doing many more ... my respects from Chile!!!!!!!
Good job. Make some videos working on some orange or green tractors. Hydraulic pump on WD45 would be a good one.
Great job explaining. Thanks
Excellent video. Give yourself a pat on the back

You really are one of a kind..
excellent video do you have one on the cub also?
You do good work! Merry Christmas to you and fam!
Just a tip. If your points are burnt the condenser should be replaced.
Could really use a video on an IH 666 gas. Looking to do a complete restoration on it.
Great job very helpful. Thanks 😊!!

Need to know where I can purchase parts for my Farmal A magneto.
A test light is the best way to test connections.
Excellent video very helpful
Can you do a video of an H governor
Love your videos, very helpful, do you ship parts to the uk?

From québec you are very expérimenté tank you
Would like to see a mag rebuild on a F20
Farmall pulling hard to the right how is the set up alignment?
Very educational
How similar are the impulse couplings between the H4 & the J4?
So when setting points is the high lobe on either side of radius or is one side of radius sit a little taller than the other?
Great video. Thank you.
Hi what engine oil do you recommend for a farmall m in cold temperatures?
this is a dream of every man, beautiful woman and a tractor, just need the beer
Can you get new impulse drives looks sold out?

Can you put a coil on in place of a mag
what's the difference between a magneto and a distributer?
I cannot get the impulse off at all. one broke with a puller and the other one is stuck as well. the screwdrivers or pry bars aren't working
Does anyone know where one can purchase rebuilt tractors like model Super A?
Great job
I have a 51 Harry Ferguson to-30 and i have replaced condenser, coil, cleaned the points well ,replaced all plugs and it has been converted to 12v and I turn the ignition on the coil gets warm but it won’t spark what is wrong I have a distributor btw

Timing those farmalls is important when hand cranking, one good kick and you will be gun shy ,all ways wandering,
awsome
Nice !;-)
At 14:26 the hair went up and for some reason it shocked me.
Rachel is too pretty to concentrate on what she is saying😍😍😍😍😍
