    I only used Shell for many years but I only traveled short distances. Then I changed jobs and had to commute about 100km per day. I stayed with shell and I was getting about 14km per liter. I worked next to a Total garage and one day I had no choice but to fill up with Total as I would not make it home with what I had in the tank. I got 16km per liter. I could not believe it so with the next fill up I put in Shell again. Again consumption dropped to 14km per liter. Again I filled up with Total. Again I did 16km to the liter. Obviously I only use Total now. I don't drive a performance car but I can not say that as far as power goes it feels any different to me.

    My car is Toyota Harrier. I bought it recently and have been fueling with Shell fuel save and the problem is that immediately after fueling the car had problems of acceleration and also shown the Engine indicator for about 5 kms. I decided to try Total excelleium and the car took off with no problems at all. It was a great relive for me.

      Hey Veresta Nice to hear that your car is back to normal.
      SHELL Fuel Save and v-Power don't have problems as such. The problem is mostly found with the SHELL Petrol stations themselves where the fuel gets contaminated hence the problem you got of the check engine light.
      I haven't heard such a problem with TOTAL though. But with some SHELL stations it's rampant (Maybe an issue with the storage)

      @@MimiIbie you can say that again. some shells are good but some are a nightmare. my car stalled in one station in a place you wouldn't expect, within nairobi and no compensation or feedback ever since. i still do shell but a different better place.

    Best test would be on Thika road, Sunday morning. there is both shell and total fairly close to each other after Muthaiga. Put in 1000Sh and drive towards thika/kenol. Measure distance covered. Return and do the same for all three fuel types. This would be more accurate.... Maybe, I'll do that actually and post a review

      Hahaa, they are the same product... companies take turns importing bulk crude or refined (usually from the Gulf). V-Power is just normal petrol with Octane additive, which is only useful for high performance (NEW) cars at SEA LEVEL... and even then its not a very big difference. So if you buy a brand new Porche and are driving at sea level and need high performance then V-power will give you a bit of a kick... OTHERWISE its all a gimmick to con stupid Kenyans off their money driving 8yr old wrecks spending money on Octane fuel...lol.

    This test is only fair if all of these variables were exactly the same throughout the tests;
    a) Driving style
    b) Driving environment (weather, time of day, road conditions)
    c) Driving time (engine run-time in minutes/hours)
    d) Vehicle load (pax and/or cargo)
    Can you say they were? :)
    Also, for true bench-testing accuracy, you should have flushed the fuel system with the next fuel being tested prior to running the test.
    All in all, fair game.. O:-)

    • @MimiIbie
      @MimiIbie  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mista lobsta
      a) driving style: We tried our level best to drive the same way.
      b) The test was done last month before the raining season so weather should be the same. Roads used are the same as I only do home- office -home. leaving same time. traffic conditions the same. Monday to Friday
      c) given same roads and time I got the same time 1hour driving to office and 30min home
      d) I drive with my wife Mimi only.
      The only one which we didn't follow is the flushing. Of which I believe putting 25L in an empty tank should suffice for this simple comparison, starting with Total and ending with the 2 fuels from Shell

      Tire pressure/checking if the tires are worn/shocks/wheel enlightenment and balancing/clean air intake/clean oil and oil filter/spark plugs/new brakes, All of them make a huge difference if the car was not well maintained. Do all the service yourself
      The heavy foot will kill MPG, if you keep to the speeds of the road you rather save a lot of fuel.

    This is a great video. However, it would have been quite useful if you brought out the point of octane rating of the 3 fuels stated, versus the manufacturer recommendations for each of the vehicles you used (or rather your commentators referred to). The point here is: what did subaru specify for your specific engine to use? As in what octane is required? And is it "required", or "recommended"? I know for a fact that the Toyota 2ZZ VVTLI engines fitted in 00-2006 JDM Celicas is "manufacturer required" to use high Octane fuel which in Japan is "hai-oku" fuel. Now, hai-oku in Japan is 98-100 Octane, whereas japan Regular fuel, which the 2ZZ is not supposed to use, is 96 Octane! From what I know the highest Octane fuel in Kenya (and East Africa) is Octane 95 (V-power), the rest being much lower than that. This means, we have no fuel for vehicles at all! We are basically killing our engines due to ignorance of both ourselves and KEBS. Is a pity

    • @DanielMsanii
      @DanielMsanii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's octane 95 for V-Power and Octane 93 for Excellium and FuelSave.

    • @armgod1
      @armgod1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DanielMsanii exactly my point. Our V-power has lower octane rating (95) than Japanese regualr fuel (96). Our East African V-power is not even any close to Japanese Regular fuel, yet it's marketed as high octane fuel locally. Sad.
