    I've waited quite a long time for an excellent technology report like this! Excellent work Thomas!

    Thomas,
    My trusted (independent) mechanic - expert in Porsche, Audi & VW - always advised me to use the best quality fuel available and to change oil and filter frequently to ensure longevity.
    It worked for me I can say.
    Merci!

    Thank you Thomas. Very interesting insights from inside an oil laboratory.
    However Total is both juge and party on these matters. It could be interesting to also have a feedback on these fuel additives and energy prospects from an independant lab. I think the last engineer is right : there will be much less diesel engines in small vehicules in the future.

      +Roman Jeremy My thoughts exactly

    • @TekAutomatica
      @TekAutomatica 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +panathaninf I disagree, smaller, lighter cars mean smaller lighter engines. Diesels still wear much less than petrol powered ones as the torque is at much lower revs and diesel is a lubricant where petrol is a cutting fluid. Audi and VW managed better than 3litres/100km back in 1999 to 2005 with the fantastic Lupo 3L and Audi A2 1.2 TDI. Sadly todays cars are so big and heavy with large frontal areas. The popularity of SUVs post 911 means the benefits of diesel have been squandered in pulling around oversized vehicles. Real world efficiency has therefore not improved.

      +Roman Jeremy Yes of course that's one standpoint. We ll try to develop the issue further of course when we get the chance to get more experts

    I add Marine outboard TCW3 rated oil to my Volvo XC90 and my Jeep GC. The ratio is 1 oz per5 gallons of gasoline. Google this subject and you will find many people do this with great results. Marine TCW3 outboard oil burns ashless so it will not harm sensors or catalitic converters. Try it out you won't know your car is running at idle. Great lubrication and quick starts.

    Thank you for the video Autogefuehl, It is very informative and it actually works. diesel is very sensitive to injector clogging because of direct injection nature of the system. For gasoline/benzin, it does not effect that much and they do not stress enough. European cars like to TURBO EVERYTHING including midget 3 cyl engines. direct injection cannot help itself with the intake valve deposit and they are designed to be cleaned manually regularly. Only few with port injection can keep the intake clean like most Toyota, Lexus, some Ford and VW with dual injectors.

    I use the best diesel available and what I noticed is that the DPF doesn't do the burn cycle so often anymore and if it does, it' not as noticeable as before when I was using regular diesel. I have no scientifical proof but it's what I noticed ;-)

    I saw a similar programme on another channel visiting the labs of BP. Total prepared better for this than BP. However, one note of misleading information from the head of fuels of Total at the end. Diesel is not better for CO2 emissions. He was of course right if he only had to look at the car burning fuel. But if you look at the "well to wheel" figures of Diesel, it is not better on CO2 than petrol/gas, even worse. That guy from Total of course knew this very well. You can say a lot of things of oil companies, but they surely control their processes very well!

    • @TekAutomatica
      @TekAutomatica 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ronald de Rooij Diesel is better for CO2 based on combustion thermodynamic efficiency:
      38.6 mj/ litre diesel
      50%: 19.3 mj useful
      2.6391 kg co2 per litre
      0.1367 kg per useful mj
      34.8 mj/litre petrol
      30%: 10.44 mj useful
      2.3035 kgs co2 per litre
      0.2206 kg per useful mj
      Also it requires less energy to refine than petrol. But the fact is the refineries burn oil as part of the process.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ronald de Rooij yeah its the thing that Diesel and petrol both exist after refining ...

    • @ronaldderooij1774
      @ronaldderooij1774 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Luke W True, but I am a bit puzzled by the efficiency. 50% for diesel is very optimistic and 30 % for petrol is rather pessimistic in my view. I thought the difference was a lot smaller. But... Since you have so many figures I have to concede defeat here.

    Great information. Right now the biggest issue for carbon build up is with Direct injection engines where additives do nothing to help clean the valves.

  • @ncr79
    @ncr79 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting video! One thing I was totally (pun not intended :) missing was the question if those additives change the composition of the car's fuel burning emissions. I would assume so. And if so, I suspect they might add some rather harmful fumes... Really surprised you didn't ask this.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ncr79 yes it does have an effect, but research shows it is not that great of an effect that they would do advertisement with it

    • @ncr79
      @ncr79 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Autogefühl Ah, so you think it has a positive effect? I meant that burning the additive chemicals probably creates harmful additional emissions. Even if overall there are less emissions the composition might be worse...

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ncr79 yes the higher the octane level and the more additives, the better the burning result. Always just a question of how many percentages is it better?

    At 13:10 if thereis water in the gas station there is still the diesel filter to remove water in the diesel, is very difficult that water will go in to the engine

    I think engine cleaning properties is just a market hype. Instead this type of 'premium fuels' are only good for performance cars. You should only put manufacturer's recommended fuel type.

    • @d.e.b.b5788
      @d.e.b.b5788 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, oil companies frequently pay the manufacturers to recommend their own brand. So using the recommended fuels often just wastes money. Most fuel related engine problems are due to contaminations in the fuel from the local gas station, which you can't do anything about. Best bet, buy from a station which sells a lot of gasoline.
