    I recommend having a mechanic install a fuel cutoff switch that's hidden well. When it's activated, the tow vehicle or motorhome might start, but will die within seconds, so no one can drive it away.
    This is a highly effective "old school" antitheft device that thieves can't easily work around.
    This can be especially critical in Mexico, because some thieves will steal an RV when the owners are away, hide it in a remote area, & strip it down, or hijack them when the owner is on the road. If someone tries to hijack your rig, you can flip the hidden switch, & then pretend to have engine trouble when it won't start. They'll likely take off if they can't drive it away.

    It’s better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. I have a concealed firearms permit as well but you definitely need to check state laws. The Utah permit has a lot of reciprocity except for Oregon which I had to get separate since it’s the state I live in. I make sure to stop and lock my gun in a safe before driving into CA though. That would not be fun. Too many creeps out there, especially when you are a woman traveling to the middle of nowhere.
    We changed out all the cargo locks and have a residential deadbolt on the door. Keep trail cams around the RV and motion sensor lights as well. We also installed an alarm and arm it before going to bed for the night.

      We traveled in both of those states and carried it. It’s actually not banned throughout those states. In CA, it’s only prohibited in Yosemite NP and Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP. Otherwise legal everywhere else in CA. For Washington State, it must be registered with the state fish & wildlife in order for legal carry.

    I boondock with my horse and I just roll my ebike up into the horse compartment at night or if I'm riding my horse. I also carry, and have motion light on all four corners of my trailer. I have a gooseneck lock, but usually leave my truck parked so no one could get to the hitch. We too usually have someone who stays at camp to keep an eye on things. One thing I hear a lot of, are solar panel thefts! People have cut the wire while the people are in their trailers..... do you have any suggestions on protecting them? I was thinking a motion alarm attached to each one but that seems like a lot of work.....

    • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Appears as though you’ve got it mostly all covered! Most of our solar panels are on the RV roof, however, we do have a few ground solar panels that we put out if needed. To help keep those secure, we use a braided steel cable and locks. We secure the cable around the hitch leg with a lock through the cable loop and do the same at the solar panel. The holes in the aluminum solar panel frame are fairly small, so, we had to use a smaller lock there. Being that the panel frame is made of a thin aluminum, the thief could easily cut it with a pair of tin snips or bolt cutters, but, a small deterrent is better than none at all. Hope this helps. Have fun and safe travels!! ✌🏻

    I have also found the Wyze cameras are great. Even if you don't have wifi, they have a SD card and will continually record. Jut pop the card and see the videos with any MP4 player. I have also tested the Wyze 2 & 3 with your "run of the mill" phone battery pack and get 24+ hours of power on a small one. The fact that they are USB power also makes them great for RV's - if you have a shore power failure, they will still run on the house batteries.

    I finally came to the realization that from Rv safety security,stress in towing,high price of camping and gas and full campgrounds.
    And the last camping trip another RV person backed their rv into my travel trailer crushing the ladder. It took two months to get
    The part and get it installed. THEN THE BIG LIGHT BULB went off…the price of a hotel room was looking very attractive.
    Camping is also a lot of work… after camping for 30 years.. I sold my 2021 Winnebago micro mini TT.
    Times have changed…way too many drifters wandering around and the ROI no longer makes sense.

I have a Ring door bell and a ring alarm in my RV. I also have a conceal carry license from Texas and I rather have a weapon at hand instead of calling someone with a weapon (policy) that make take 5 to 50 mins. to get there. I do not. They tried to sell us that in our LTC class. Good sales pitch trying to scare people into buying insurance, IMO anyway.

    Once again, it seems like u r somewhat naive on how easy it is to pick/rake a lock open. Regular key locks r super easy to pop open.

    • @EddieAtLarge
      @EddieAtLarge  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not this one. It’s a Viro Panzer 7 pin lock made in Italy. Here’s a video of a Professional lock picker that had a hard time with it. th-cam.com/video/SmzvGNwjaWg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uLSFW0VRHT5cWUy3
      Can’t imagine the average bike thief would have these skills and patience. They would also have to try to pick it in an awkward position as I have the chain looped around my RV frame so they would be wedged between the bike and the RV or have to lay down on the ground.

      Never heard of them before. Just looked them up. Pretty cool. We keep a big ol can of bear spray handy now as well for non-lethal use. It’s the big can, not the California mini version.

    We’re thinking of getting a set up similar to you, but at times we would have to take the truck out overnight separately. So I’ve been really thinking about how easy it is to hitch up to a trailer and drive it away. Apparently people steal Farm trailers all the time. Good suggestions. This is especially a worry for Boondocking places that are vacant.
    I wonder if you can bring a firearm into Mexico? I certainly want to drive through Mexico at some point. Seems like that’s the place you might really need one.
