The bonus tip is a game changer. I always struggle getting my water hose through the opening at the bottom because it has these strong plastic flaps with long screws on the inside. So it’s literally a pain trying to get my hose through there to connect to the bay. Your tip eliminates that whole issue!
i have nightmares about thats plastic flaps, and the noise is like fingernails on a chalkboard too. glad to know im not the only one. thanks my friend.
I started using this method 2 years ago when I couldn't get rid of the smelly black tank. After every black tank drain I flush the tank with 20 gallons of water 2-3 times and now I never smell the tank even with the exhaust fan on. Excellent video.
As always, great video. I rinse my tanks similar to the way you describe after every trip at home, just with a different branded back-fill device. After dumping the black tank, I always use my black tank flush first with a water meter 1-2 times to get some spray action going and then follow it with the back-fill process. Thank you for encouraging people to not do this at a public dump station with others waiting. It’s unreal it has to be said but it does.
always good rv info here! One handy item to have around an rv is split loom wiring protector, [ flexible black tube cut along its length to slip over wires] not only does it protect wire but you could run it along that sharp edge underneath your slides eliminating the danger and also run it around openings in metal that wire goes through to keep the wire from being damaged by the cut metal edge! Or you could save some money and recycle some old air water or fuel hoses by cutting along the hose to slip over shap edges underneath or inside utility areas... it usually holds itself on but i add a small shot of silicone adhesive inside slit every foot or so to secure it
I have been a fulltime RVer due to my job, and I just found your channel. I do want to say thanks, as even an old-timer can learn something new, and the reviews you do keep me in the know for items that may help make RV life better.
You could save a bunch of money by shaking your camper while dumping to give the tank some sloshing. Do the same for when black tank flushing. If you use a toilet wand to clean sensors just rock back and forth while doing that. Works for me.
Thanks Ross, just switched from Coleman pop-up to full tow-behind. Looks like you're saving me the trial-and-error time and expense. After the first shake down trip, I'm already addressing these three issues, but your article not only addressed them but also moved to the next level or two, not to mention doing the research on the components. Looking forward to checking out your other videos.
Ross, I love your videos. Streight forward up front and honest onions. Every time I watch your videos you give me ideas and pointers that I myself would not think of or see. The only drawback is however that I spend money when I watch your videos. LOL. Keep up the good work sir there are those of us who truly appreciate you.
I bought this tool to unclog a grey tank, while I was using it the idea of using it to flush the black tank popped into my head, I now use it every time I drain my main grey tank and the black tank. It may take a little longer but it is worth the effort.
Good video! We’ve been traveling with our 2450RL. Couple things I do that are similar. 1. I use a 45* fitting in the bay, it’s a little easier to take on & off. 2. When I refill the black tank 2nd, or 3rd time I do it through the flusher valve with the flow meter. Great information 👍🏻 I also have a unique setup for my sewer hoses using rain gutter and home made adjustable supports made from 1/2 PVC. I can send pictures if you’re interested. I don’t think I can add pictures to this comment.
Another fantastic video Ross! Love the bonus tip. I actually have quick connections on both my water inlet and on my water filter! My hose has the connections on both ends. Makes life a lot easier! 👍🏽
I like those quick disconnect water fittings. I coat the rubber washer within the fitting with water faucet lubricant to make a better seal. It ensures no leaks.
I bought a bunch of them, they go on everything for me. the splitter, the filter and regulator all of the hoses. They work great, I even use them at my house.
Good Job! I've simplified this process. I use water meter on black tank rinse and fill 3/4 full and then open black tank valve. Simplifies the process and less parts to carry.
Thank you, and yes that will do the same thing. I do this though because the plastic vacuum breaker inside the walls of the rv is known to fail and leak so I try to avoid using it as much as possible. Plus this method is putting resting water inside your drain pipes so you get a little bit of a soak in the pipes too. Thanks for watching bud!
If Im at full hook-ups or at a dump site I do the black tank flush SEVERAL times. I do close the valve to fill my black tank and continue this process til the water coming out is clear and free of debris. Usually takes an 30-60min and I do this during packup.
I did get the Rhino blaster based on this video and found it worked well and was really convenient. It did however take a while to refill and dump the tanks more than once compared to your bucket method down the toilet. It probably wouldn’t be feasible at an even moderately busy dump station. So, I may still try to use the much faster bucket method when using a dump station and the rhino blaster when I have full hookup and plenty of time to rinse the tanks a couple times. The other thing is, in order to refill the tanks to 75%, I do wonder how to account for the amount of water the hose itself holds and how much more we might need to add to reach 75% in the tanks.
Hey Peter, thanks for sharing... I'm kind of with you... im not sure if the bucket method is quicker because you still have to fill the bucket, but it does "feel" quicker when you dump that bucket into the toilet. Im also going to do some testing to see what works better... the bucket may agitate things in that tank better than the rinser. i have some black tank videos coming up and ill keep you posted. thanks for being here my friend!
Love your videos, extremely useful for a two year newbies! Another bonus, I tend to go shopping before the video ends, including the Snapjacks 5000! Keep up the great work.
I had a small 5th wheel and didn't know this information. The black tank flush was very informative. I appreciate the info and the same thing with the fresh water. Next RV I will have the knowledge. Never to old to learn.(66 today😊) . Thank you
If I can add a piece of advice it would be to have backups. Carry extra everything. Fresh water hose, extension for your electric service line(as well as surge protector and dogbone), and sewer line. I found out the hard way on our very first trip with our RV when the camp ground put the fresh water hookup at the front of the rig instead of in the back with everything else. At one campground the electric and water was in the front. You need to do this ahead of time because if you need to buy it from the campground chances are you're going to pay at least 25% more.
I've been a professional driver for over 40 years. I have never had a bathroom in my truck. I don't understand why everyone has to use their camper bathrooms on the road. Most rest areas and fuel stations have restrooms. It's not much weight to carry but there is some. With the crappy workmanship these days I would be worried about wearing holes in the tanks. I make sure everything is empty before I move. I you're gonna dry camp, fill as close to where you are camping. When I am at a campground I fill my fresh water in case of power failure that way I can still be self sufficient. I also shut off the city water every time I leave the rv and when I go to bed at night. A burst interior line can do tons of damage if you don't know it has happened. Shutting the water off could stop a lot of damage. Just being extra careful.
the tanks are made of polypropeline, humas waste wont degrade the tanks. I think the bigger issue is people driving with full tanks, which can cause sway and porpoising issues, and there has been some tanks that actually fell out due to the weight.
My sensors easily get covered. I use this backfill device also. I don’t have a flow meter but instead just set my iPhone stopwatch to 4 minutes. It ALWAYS shows an EMPTY reading after this. Mine is a flush king brand but same setup. Also, that UNIQUE brand chemical from Walmart seems to really dissolve everything well. Great video!
Josh, my sensors do that every so often too... it doesnt seem like they consistently stay clean, but they always work good after a good rinsing. The cuplrit might be toilet paper.
Filling the black tank through the black tank flush port is what I have been doing. I can't think of a benefit of using the Rhino Blaster other than possibly speed, assuming the spray nozzles flow rate is less than straight out of the hose with the Rhino. ???
Greg, great question... heres a few things to consider. 1) some folks dont have a black tank flush port, so this would be a no brainer. 2) i havent tested this yet, but i will assume youll be able to get water into the tank much quicker using the rhino blaster over the flush port. You dont need to regulate the pressure at the pipe. The flush port needs to be regulated. Plus you have an open valve instead of going through a tank sprayer. 3) your also getting water to sit in the sewer pipe for a little while. maybe im overthinking it, but this gets a little bit of a soak and rinse in the pipe in addition to the tank. 4) you can clean your gray tanks too, the flush port doesnt do that, obviously. both do the same thing in the end, but if im using the black tank flush port, its going to be just to get a spray down on the walls, which i definitely will continue to do. otherwise, i like the rinser better.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS That's a good and very through answer, thank you. Second question, is it ok to have a dedicated black tank flush hose that connects to the spray port quick connect on the RV as long as it has a vacuum breaker and valve? All of my hookups are in the same spot on my new trailer and it would be pretty convenient that way.
I think that’s fine, I would check to find a plumbing diagram to be sure, but I’m almost certain all rv’s with a black tank flush or fill ports have a vacuum breaker installed on the line before the tank.
I use the tank flush to backfill the black tank by closing the valve while flushing. Fill it up and dump it as many times as you need to get clear water. Thanks for all the tips.
That’s correct, however, you have to regulate the pressure flow if you’re using the black tank flush port because it’s going through plumbing lines. Using the rinser allows you to fill the tank faster because you don’t need to regulate the water pressure at the termination pipe. Additionally, if you ever get a clog, a black tank flush port isn’t going to help. By using a rinser you’re pushing backwards pressure on that clog which may help to dislodge it.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS 1. If already have a regulator at the water connection there is no need. If your looking for a "Faster" way, to fill the tank, a 5 gallon bucket does the trick.
I use a “t” at the water connection, I use a separate hose for black tank cleaning that connects to the other side of the “t” that is not regulated, so it definitely fills up faster than using regulated water. Using a 5 gallon bucket also takes longer because you have to turn the water off and carry the bucket inside, then dump it down the toilet, go back out and repeat 5 times. Even if that time is minimal, it’s still extra time. All that time the rinser is constantly filling the tank, No wasted time turning it off carrying the bucket inside, dumping, then back out to fill again. Shooting unregulated water directly into the tank is much quicker than any method. Simple logic. Plus with the rinser you can apply back pressure to a clog, as I mentioned earlier and you can fill and rinse gray tanks. I won’t argue that a black tank flush port is “doing the same thing” to fill the tank, it even has its benefits like spraying down the walls, but it’s slower without question (unless the campground water is not higher than the regulator, which is rarely the case) and doesn’t give you the ability to clean gray tanks. Thats why I featured it in the video. I realize you want to continue using the flush port, and that’s perfectly fine. I’m just trying to help others and share ideas. Not trying to argue with you bud.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS not trying to argue either, its a good option if you do not have a built in Black tank flush BUT a waste of $$$$ if you do. Just saying.
I still love my poop wand that spins 360. Best way to blast all 4 walls, as long as the poop chute is a direct drop like mine. I do this last after the flush port and filling the tank back up a few times.
3:30 Hello Ross, Thanks for the informative and well explained video. This may be a newbie question, but do I need a separate save a drop water meter for filling my fresh water tank as I'm not sure I should use the same one for backflushing even though it has the backflow valve in place on the Camco unit. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Ross just got back from camping we are going for 2 weeks I plan on doing the same thing I just have to pick up the flow meter prior to watching your video I was explaining to my wife that we are going to do that how funny 😂
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thanks Ross after I watched your video I ordered the flow meter and brass one way that was my first trip this past weekend and my gray tank showing full even though it was empty damm sensors
Could you do a video about replacing an RV toilet? My flush valve got stuck fully open and I can't use my trailer until I fix the valve or replace the toilet.
I’m really liking your videos, thank you so much for sharing them. The wife and I are looking to buy a trailer RV. Do you have a video evaluating the different rv’s as to which are the best built and better quality? Your Imagine seems very nice. Thank you for you input. David
i dont really do much on "buying an RV," but youre not the first to ask so it might be something i focus on when we get a new trailer. for now, i would recommend Bish's RV and Matts RV Reviews, both great channels.
It's good that you encourage use of a vacuum breaker in your video. But did you know that vacuum breakers should be placed at the hose bib and higher than the hose
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🫡. Good video because even if you’re stationary RV living or traveling fulltime your RV living, you can still run into the problem of no water with the city water connection anywhere. The question is how long can I leave freshwater in my freshwater tank before I have to dump it and refill.🤔
thats actually a great question. I wont pretend to be a fresh water specialist but its a great question and i would maybe look up to see if the USDA says something about that. I would guess and feel safe using the water 1-2 days later, but thats just personal preference. we all know how quickly water in a dog bowl looks after a few hours, but then again that is exposed to open air, your tank is not. let me know if you find a credible source that talks about this i would love to know my friend.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I most differently will I was hoping you had a video on it already that I haven’t seen yet, lol…water does get stale pretty quick when exposed to open air. And I found out last night that the water sitting in your fresh water tank in this current Texas heat will make you take a hot shower whether you want to or not with hot water heater off. ☀️🔥I’m new to the rv life, so this is going to be a new FUN journey! The black tank master class really helped a lot, well, hell all your videos have helped me out a lot. Well thank you for helping everyone who watches avoid the pitfalls of rving…✌🏾
An easier and quicker way is to get a gate valve at your hose connection. After you dump your black tank close the gate valve and open your grey tank with the black tank open. It will even the water between the 2 tanks. Close the grey water valve then then the gate valve. Repeat a couple times. It fill the black tank in 20 seconds and saves on water.
this method does work a little, but this method presents 2 problems. If you have a larger gray tank or combination of gray tanks you can overflow your black tank. additionally, if you have less water in your gray tank than your black tank capacity you arent cleaning the entire black tank. its going to be extremely rare the amount of gray water you are using is the same amount of water you need to clean your entire black tank. you really need to measure how much gray water your putting in your black tank so you know you can fill it most of the way and get it clean. by using the rhino blaster and a flow meter you are accurate to the gallon. this also gives you the ability to clean your gray tanks, which can actually get worse smells than black tanks. thanks!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS you have to manage the levels of your grey tank also but I've never has a overflow and I get 3 flushes per grey tank. It's level amount more than capacity. As long as you're level or close to level it won't over flow.
I'm sure it's been asked and answered...but we just found your channel. Where did you find the backslash? I'm assuming that was an upgrade you did. I have been looking everywhere and can only find the large ceiling tiles. Ty loving your content!!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS you didn’t! I was just adding some product data I found while researching drinking water safe hose connections. Keep up the good work. You are sharing so much valuable information all in one place.
Sorry for the dumb question, I just bought my first TT and I am so overwhelmed I am regretting getting it. 😢 Anyway, so with the tanks, I still need to do the flush with the Rhino back flow even after I flush it using the black tank flush? I am so confused on how to properly maintain them. Thanks in advance, I am binge watching your videos!
you dont need the rhino blaster, its just another option for rinsing. the black tank flush in my experience is pretty ineffective. i wouldnt waste much of your time using it if you instead use the rhino blaster.
Ross is there any way that you could list the code you’re going to be wanting us to use for the snap jacks in the description? I keep trying to find the code you’re mentioning but I’m not able to when I drop down to the product list you provide. Or perhaps have it flash on the screen during sponsor ad time. Thank you for your help. We are going to need the pads for a toy hauler. 😊
thank you for asking, just use this link: www.rvsnappad.com/discount/RVTT10 that should automatically give you 10% off at checkout. if not, use this code: RVTT10
Watched your video. You left one important fact out. When running water into the black tank, you need to keep open the toilet valve, so pressure doesn’t build up. I had a camper next to us that didn’t open the toilet valve and he blew out his black tank. It made a loud bang and water was everywhere. Hope this helps.
This isn’t true, sorry. There is a black tank gas vent inside the black tank at the top of the tank that exits at the roof of the RV. You can’t build pressure in any black tank.
Your tank won’t pressurize. If it was pressurized it would blow the water on your ball valve up on your face every time you pushed the pedal to flush lol. If you need more proof consider this. If there wasn’t a vent, you would have to open your flusher every time you dumped or you would create a vacuum when dumping, which would make for a slow dumping process instead of water rushing out. Your tank is vented, you can ask anyone. It’s illegal to build an rv without a waste tank vent. Good luck.
If any tanks are not vented via the roof vent they wont dump. Air must go in to replace liquid out. Only a severly over filled black tank could plug the vent pipe causing a tank to rupture when back flushing.
Great tips Ross! Wish we could use the Rhino flush but our Provincial campgrounds (which we camp at most) have cut the ends off the flush hoses. Will have to figure something out for home use.
At your local home improvement store, buy a cheap hose end replacement. Carry it with you, attach it to that cut hose, remove it when done. Defy tyrants!
Should have purchased when they were on sale after your last post. Noticed you do not use the brass connector on the SADFM. Thanks for the videos and advice!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Sorry - I guess it sounds like a bad FM station - it was an acronym for the Save a Drop Flow Meter - but with as many videos and items that you have listed - acronyms might always make you wonder 🤔 - make every day the best you can & thanks for the videos and preferred items.
It should be noted the Rhino blaster only works if there is a straight shot into the black tank. If there is a bend in the exit pipe from the tanks exit valve it's completely useless.
It’s purpose is to back fill the tank, so you can fill, soak and rinse… not spray a jet into it. That’s why it has a gate valve, so you can fill the tank. Has nothing to do with jetting water into the tank. All this is explained in the video. With the gate valve closed the “jet” of water is underwater in a matter of 3 seconds anyway. I could understand your confusion, calling it a “rhino blaster” can may be misleading, lol but it’s not a pressure washer. It’s a filler and rinser. Hope that helps.
I use a bidet so there is no TP. I wonder if I will eventually need to black tank flush. I am scared to flush until I replace the cheap internal vacuum breaker that can leak in your RV. I need to make that an external brass fitting.
Still getting through all your videos to make me more of a pro at this. Had the rhino blaster but always got worried about how much I was putting in. Problem now solved. They sell that flow meter with a brass fitting now so probably better to buy that one right?
Hi Ross - Hope all is well!! Life is good with us except that we should be up camping in Maine right now. Had to cancel a 33-day, 10 campsite trip because our dog ended up needing surgery. He's on the path to recovery but I cringe each day when it's 90 very humid degrees outside but 70 degrees in Maine! Anyway... I have used (and am very satisfied with) your black tank bucket rinse method for years now. Is this new hose method in addition to the bucket or in place of the bucket? You probably mention it but I might have missed it. Also love the last bonus tip. Amazon is my next stop!! 😂 Take care!
Hey Eric, first off, I'm glad to hear your dog is doing well. We lost one in November and it was very difficult. That stinks about the trip too. I would say this can be used in addition or in replace. One thing I still love about the bucket dump is getting 5 gallons of water in in a matter of 5 seconds gets a lot of things moving around in there. Plus it hits right where poop pyramids form. If you are happy with the bucket, no need to change. I like the rinser method because I can get my gray tanks rinsed. Personally, Ill probably use both methods in the future.
The reason those quick disconnect fittings eventually leak is bc they aren’t brass. The look like brass but it’s brass looking finish over aluminum . I too had the same fittings. I then switched to real brass fittings and no more leaks.
couple things... the flush port is a sprayer that using RV plumbing, so it will need to be regulated and its going to be much slower considering its a sprayer. Using the Rhinoblaster allows you to not have to regulate the flow and fill the tank much quicker. It also puts water in exit pipes to help loosen up and clean, the flush port only fills the tank. Most importantly, the Rhinoblaster also allows you to back fill your gray tanks quickly, the black tank flush port wont. Its also convenient because you can do everything right in one spot, while your dumping your tanks. Set it up when you park and tear it down when you leave. Hope that helps. amzn.to/446lxuP
Good question, it doesn’t say that it is, but we never drink water from the hook up. I should probably find one that is drinking water safe and add it to the links for those who do. Thanks for the idea!
So I use the black tank flush port (with the same flow meter) to fill the tank with the gate closed to then dump. What is the benefit to back fill the tank over using the flush port? The Rhinoblaster is good in the event you get a clog as you are able to backfill and possibly break the clog by pushing it back up into the tank. I just don't see the benefit of backfilling through the Rhinoblaster vs using the flush port. Is it just preference?
first, some folks dont have a flush port so i wanted to give them another option... but if you do, they also have a vacuum breaker built into the plumbing and they are widely known to fail and leak. replacing them can be a pain because they are usually buried. many people have stopped using them or use them less. most mfgr's are using the same cheap plasti VB. by using a rinser obviously wont go through that vacuum breaker. it also puts resting water in your drain pipes, so it gives them sort of a soak and rinse too while its filling. you can also do this much quicker since you dont have to regulate the water flow going into the pipe and into the tank. you do have to regulate the water flow if using the flush port since its going through interior plumbing. you can use the rinser to flush the gray tanks too. flush port wont do that. youre correct it can be looked at as preference, but those are some things that i could think of. thanks for watching and commenting MF
Thanks for the reply. All good points. I'm going to try the Rhinoblaster on my next trip. I never considered the water flow. Our campground is on a well and it takes me about 14 minutes to fill the black tank through the flush port....so about an hour for a full clean since I fill and dump 4x. Maybe it'll fill faster thru the Rhiunoblaster and save me some time.
Had the same setup - only issue was the Save A Drop flow meter didnt make the par, its plastic and only lasted for a few cycles of back flushing busted apart.
yeah, i mention that in my review... that i just couldnt say how long it was going to last. it does feel kind of cheap, despite working well. time will tell, thanks for the info my friend. if it does fail, ill have to test another one. 🍻
I Like the snapjack feet for stabilizing jacks , but why in the world do they sell them as a set of 2. I’ve never seen a trailer with just two stabilizers. Should be sold as a set of 4 or as singles to possibly replace lost or damaged ones. Just my 2 cents. Lol. Keep up the informative videos. Thanks for doing them.
1) No pressure regulator needed so it’s faster, and 2) you can clean your gray tanks. 3) Not every RV has a black tank rinse port. Also, I was not paid to talk about the rinser. My job with this channel is to help people and show people all their options. I talk about other rinsing methods in other videos too. I don’t promote products for the sake of a paycheck. I show what works and doesn’t work.
Your videos are awesome. Thank you I saw one video how to change from manual valves. That is possible to do with all units, would you know that? I appreciate your knowledge and input
honestly, im struggling with how to share mine because every owners manual should have one and they are different. check your manual first... but eventually im going to release something about this. thanks bud.
I've seen some scheduled maintenance list: columns- each trip/monthly/quarterly/yearly. I'm sure each manufacturer has some things in common and it would be up to the individual to ensure a particular task is added or placed in the correct column. I'm a fan of checklist! I used the ones that you offered for before leaving home, arrival at campsite and before leaving campsite, took them and made them my own. Just got in the Camlock door latches and will be installing this week. @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
I have a question, we are new RV- full-timers. Our black tank continues to leak. We have to put a bucket under the outside connector. Yuck!!! How do we fix this?

thanks a million!!!!!!!
Excellent video.
glad it helped!
I've been in the back of that line Josh, so definitely wanted to mention it. Thanks for always stopping in bud.
always good rv info here! Or you could save some money and recycle some old air water or fuel hoses by cutting along the hose to slip over shap edges underneath or inside utility areas... it usually holds itself on but i add a small shot of silicone adhesive inside slit every foot or so to secure it
great points, thanks for adding to the video.
I have been a fulltime RVer due to my job, and I just found your channel. I do want to say thanks, as even an old-timer can learn something new, and the reviews you do keep me in the know for items that may help make RV life better.
glad to help, let me know if you have any other questions. check out our channel page for a lot more videos!
You're fast, accurate, and articulate! Thanks.
hope the videos help!
Glad to help my friend
Ross, I love your videos. Streight forward up front and honest onions. Every time I watch your videos you give me ideas and pointers that I myself would not think of or see. haha, gotta love the time we live it, order toys, they show up the next day on the porch!
Thanks for another very informative video! Appreciate the knowledge and enjoy your presentation!
My pleasure!
I bought this tool to unclog a grey tank, while I was using it the idea of using it to flush the black tank popped into my head, I now use it every time I drain my main grey tank and the black tank. It may take a little longer but it is worth the effort.
Agree, thanks for the comment!
Your videos are so helpful!! I can’t thank you enough. I will use all the links you have to help in anyway I can. You ROCK!
Thank you Lee, support from watching and using our links puts food on the table and keeps the channel alive! It is very much appreciated!
Good video! We’ve been traveling with our 2450RL. Couple things I do that are similar.
1. I use a 45* fitting in the bay, it’s a little easier to take on & off.
2. When I refill the black tank 2nd, or 3rd time I do it through the flusher valve with the flow meter.
Great information 👍🏻
I also have a unique setup for my sewer hoses using rain gutter and home made adjustable supports made from 1/2 PVC. I can send pictures if you’re interested. I don’t think I can add pictures to this comment.
thanks for sharing Richard!
Another fantastic video Ross! Love the bonus tip. I actually have quick connections on both my water inlet and on my water filter! My hose has the connections on both ends. Makes life a lot easier! 👍🏽
Yeah it does, should have done this a long time ago!
I like those quick disconnect water fittings. I coat the rubber washer within the fitting with water faucet lubricant to make a better seal. It ensures no leaks.
I bought a bunch of them, they go on everything for me. the splitter, the filter and regulator all of the hoses. They work great, I even use them at my house.
good tip, thanks
Never even thought about keeping a water reserve. Genius!
right?
Usually takes an 30-60min and I do this during packup.
me too, i do it every time i tear down.
Keep up the great work.
sorry for the late response, just getting caught up on responding to comments. Thanks for the nice comment my friend!
I had a small 5th wheel and didn't know this information. The black tank flush was very informative. I appreciate the info and the same thing with the fresh water. Next RV I will have the knowledge. Never to old to learn.(66 today😊) . Thank you
Happy Birthday Kathy!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thank you (66 years young ☺️)
Just bought my RV, pick it up in a few days and I’m going through all these tips videos
glad to help, if you have any questions let us know.
Totally agree!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS definitely in agreement. Good rinse is always the answer.
I love your channel!! Great information and super easy to follow. Dude, you are awesome, lots of love. Keep putting out the 411!!!
Thanks bud, appreciate that.
Your videos rock - insanely helpful. Thanks for helping me get into the world of camping!
Happy to help!
Thanks SO MUCH Ross, love your videos.
my pleasure Missy
Thank you for your time and effort posting this information.
My pleasure!
Is there a a reason to use the rhino blaster to backfill instead of using the black tank flush with your flow meter?
That's a great question...
I really like the tip for the hose extender and quick connect. Thanks for great tip
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the info. Most of the stuff I own for RVing is thanks to you!
thats nice to hear. i hope none of it breaks or you're going to hate me! .😆 lol, seriously thank you sir, its appreciated!
We just love your video's! Many safe travels for all!
Thank you!
Very informative....super easy instructions....nailed it!!! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😃
I use the tank flush to backfill the black tank by closing the valve while flushing. Fill it up and dump it as many times as you need to get clear water.
Thanks for all the tips.
I do the same. If equipped, your doing the same thing.
I do this last after the flush port and filling the tank back up a few times.
thanks for commenting Keith!
Picking up our first travel trailer this week. Thanks for the great Info.
Glad it was helpful!
3:30 Hello Ross,
Thanks for the informative and well explained video.
This may be a newbie question, but do I need a separate save a drop water meter for filling my fresh water tank as I'm not sure I should use the same one for backflushing even though it has the backflow valve in place on the Camco unit. Thanks for the feedback.
it would probably not be a bad idea and I would recommend a different meter in that situation. You can find them here: amzn.to/3W3eMdb
Hi Ross just got back from camping we are going for 2 weeks I plan on doing the same thing I just have to pick up the flow meter prior to watching your video I was explaining to my wife that we are going to do that how funny 😂
great minds think alike. stickers have been in an envelope for a week, lol, i think ill be able to get them out today.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thanks Ross after I watched your video I ordered the flow meter and brass one way that was my first trip this past weekend and my gray tank showing full even though it was empty damm sensors
Could you do a video about replacing an RV toilet? My flush valve got stuck fully open and I can't use my trailer until I fix the valve or replace the toilet.
ill see what i can do
Thanks for the idea of the quick connects and the hose extension. Just ordered thru your links.
Thanks Darrin, appreciate the nice comment!
Thank you for your suggestions!
Any time Garth!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Thank you for the response. I’ll check them out.
Thank you for all your tips! I have used them to help me!
My pleasure!
This video is super helpful! I’m going to place it in my saved folder!
Glad it was helpful!
Congrats on the 100,000-plus subscribers👍🇺🇲
Thanks Gary! 😉
It's good that you encourage use of a vacuum breaker in your video. But did you know that vacuum breakers should be placed at the hose bib and higher than the hose
That is correct, I run the black one in this video at the bib as a back up.
We don't treat our black tank but we use alot of water and rise as many times as needed
rinsing is the key!
That’s definitely another option, thanks for sharing!
I'm sure it's been asked and answered...but we just found your channel. Where did you find the backslash? I'm assuming that was an upgrade you did. I have been looking everywhere and can only find the large ceiling tiles. Ty loving your content!!
here is what i got, mulitple colors are in this listing: amzn.to/4cYHErZ
For the 2 foot hose you listed, the product description explicitly states this hose is not intended for drinking water use.
Correct. I don’t drink water from the campground connection, and I don’t think I never said it was?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS you didn’t! I was just adding some product data I found while researching drinking water safe hose connections. Keep up the good work. You are sharing so much valuable information all in one place.
No worries, thanks for watching and commenting my friend!

Thanks for another great video. your research and tips are great.
My pleasure, thanks for always watching, commenting and supporting the channel Scott.
Thank you for another informative instruction

Watched your video. You left one important fact out. When running water into the black tank, you need to keep open the toilet valve, so pressure doesn’t build up. I had a camper next to us that didn’t open the toilet valve and he blew out his black tank. It made a loud bang and water was everywhere. Hope this helps.
This isn’t true, sorry. There is a black tank gas vent inside the black tank at the top of the tank that exits at the roof of the RV. You can’t build pressure in any black tank.
Then their was another problem he had. ButI am not taking any chances with my tank. Good Luck
Good luck.
Thanks for the information.
To prevent you from rinsing tank?
Tom, check this out: amzn.to/3s0Cxp1
At your local home improvement store, buy a cheap hose end replacement. Carry it with you, attach it to that cut hose, remove it when done. Defy tyrants!
Should have purchased when they were on sale after your last post. Noticed you do not use the brass connector on the SADFM. Thanks for the videos and advice!
What is SADFM?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Sorry - I guess it sounds like a bad FM station - it was an acronym for the Save a Drop Flow Meter - but with as many videos and items that you have listed - acronyms might always make you wonder 🤔 - make every day the best you can & thanks for the videos and preferred items.
Haha! I’m googling it here trying to figure it out 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks bud. The brass valve connects between the flow meter and the rhino blaster.
I need to make that an external brass fitting.
thanks for watching and commenting!
Great content! I will have to check out that quick disconnect hose adapter for sure!
Glad it was helpful!
Still getting through all your videos to make me more of a pro at this. Had the rhino blaster but always got worried about how much I was putting in. Problem now solved. They sell that flow meter with a brass fitting now so probably better to buy that one right?
i did notice that, and yes that would be good to get.
Take care!
I gave folks 2 options, aluminum and brass.
The plastic vacuum breaker on mine spewed water the first time I used it.
thanks for sharing Mike, that just reinforces my thoughts with those... never felt safe using mine so i switched it out after 1 use.
What is the difference between using the black tank flush on the camper versus the flush system you show?
couple things... the flush port is a sprayer that using RV plumbing, so it will need to be regulated and its going to be much slower considering its a sprayer.
Great information, thank you!
Our pleasure!
BRILLIANT❣️ Thank you!!!
Welcome!
I would put a quick disconnect at the rhino blaster as well.
yeah, i love those 2... i just started adding them all over my house lol.
Love your videos. Im assuming the hose extension is drinking water friendly. I couldn’t find that info. Thanks
Good question, it doesn’t say that it is, but we never drink water from the hook up. I should probably find one that is drinking water safe and add it to the links for those who do. Thanks for the idea!
Drinking water safe option added.
can this be done to the grey AND black?. depending on which valves are closed/open?
absolutely, this can be used to clean the gray tanks as well.
Those are some great ideas 👍👍👍
Thanks Matt, I appreciate that, thanks for watching.
Good info. Much appreciated

I'm with you on that. Sell in kits of 4... and still give people the option to buy 1 if it gets damaged. Makes sense to me.

Can you just put a flow meter on the black tank flush inlet so you can do the same refill of your black tank and flush?
Yes you can do that too.
Have you used tank tech rx for black tank?
I have not Vicki, been very happy with Liquified Toilet Treatment so no reason to change. Is that what you are using?

What’s the advantage to backfilling with rhino vs filling through black tank flush port? Feels like a paid commercial for rhino

Once again, another great video. Thank you. BTW, would you happen to have a Maintenance checklist PDF/Excel Document available to share?
honestly, im struggling with how to share mine because every owners manual should have one and they are different. check your manual first... but eventually im going to release something about this.
Let me k ow if you have any questions with the lock. Be patient, by no fault of the manufacturer, they can be tricky getting in.
I have a question, we are new RV- full-timers. Our black tank continues to leak. We have to put a bucket under the outside connector. Yuck!!! How do we fix this?
Honestly, you can patch these but I would never trust that. I would replace the tank.
You come up with some of the most “who thinks of this shit” content ever! Thank you!
