I love walking thru the campgrounds with our dogs and looking at peoples' rigs and setups! If people are at their sites, I might wave, say hello and keep walking. But if no one is there, or if they are inside, I like seeing their gadgets and setups and see if I can improve on anything at mine. For example, In Bar harbor Maine last May I noticed a couple with a bumper mount clothesline/dryer. When I got home, I bought one and love it. Not everyone is a creeper or looking to rip you off, although I do understand the need for some commonsense precautions. Later in the summer at Codorus State Park in Hanover PA, I saw an awesome screen tent from Gazelle. I just bought one and plan on using it on our 3 week trip to Yellowstone this summer. Just thought I'd throw it out that that not all gawkers are looking to score your stuff!

3 M security tint/film takes extra time to break a window. Doesn’t save the window just takes a lot longer to break through and gives you a chance to react if you are in the RV.

I installed an RVlock brand entry lock with the key fob on our trailer a year or so ago. I wanted a more secure door lock than what came on our trailer. I felt safer with this lock setup until a month ago. My wife, by mistake, used the key to our storage bay locks, and opened the RVlock with that key. When she was done inside the trailer, she tried but couldn't lock the door back with that key, and told me something was wrong with the lock. I saw that she had unlocked the RVlock with the wrong key! I locked both the lock and deadbolt on the RVlock with the correct key, but then was able to unlock both of the Rvlock door locks using the storage bay lock key. I couldn't believe that I had paid extra money for a supposedly secure door lock that isn't secure at all. FYI, the key fob only locks/unlocks the deadbolt on a RVlock brand door lock. I am looking for another brand of lock, as RVlock brand isn't what it's cracked up to be. A hasp and Master lock would be more secure than an RVlock. I'm so glad my wife made a mistake by using the wrong key to unlock our door, as we weren't safe at night in our trailer, when I thought we were.

I painted bright orange and engraved all three catalytic converters on my truck AND I put loud cat-alarms on all three of them that are so sensitive that just bumping the exhaust system sets them off. If anyone tries to steal them, their ears will be ringing for awhile...and they won't be able to sell them because of the paint and engravings. LOL
Also...fire safe! If something is worth putting in a lock box, why not use one that will survive a fire, too?

Gosh... I was fulltiming in the eighties for 6 years with a Coachmen 38' 5th wheel and then the 37' Winnebago Elandan and we never worried about anything like that. So sad what happened to society in the mean time. Mind you, we did paint a number on top of the roof, so it could be seen from the air, just in case it was stolen. We truly never ever had anything stolen or gotten missing in all that time. Working as a team together, like you two, just made our travels easy, safe and fun! Safe travels to everyone reading this!

Literally had similar conversation with wife regarding airtags. We use GPS Trackers on our fleet at work and recommend them to everybody. Please note: Built in GPS can also be easily defeated. For Example, on Mopar vehicles, thieves can easily disable the OEM systems as it is built into the communications module/stereo. So I never trust the factory installed stuff and always go aftermarket and hide the modules. If they can "make a key" in a few seconds, they can do more than you realize. Might take me 4 hrs to install it, but it's also going to take them longer to find it. Time is the name of the game. Everything can be defeated (as mentioned). But the more time it takes them, the less headache in the long run. Thieves want quick in and out and not spend hours trying to get something.

  • @dperrineucsb
    @dperrineucsb 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

If you buy a Tile air tag and you mark your item "missing", it will use all of the other people's devices on the Tile network to try and find your item, so you aren't limited to just finding the lost item within your immediate vicinity.

We got a Blink system years ago. We full time. Multiple cameras with a big sign, does "encourage" thieves to choose easier targets. The one time we did have a porch pirate attempt to steal a package, he attempted to approach the RV at an angle to avoid the camera. He obviously wasn't successful and we had him at multiple angles showing his face. His parents were not happy watching their kid steal a package on my phone.

I use the locking hitch pins. It gives me a sense of security. The only issue I had, is when in the north during winter, the rubber cap doesnt stay on over the keyhole very well, and salt destroys the mechinism.
I have gone to a few places that install alarm systems but they have an issue with cargo trailers, and not sure why. I figured a Viper type setup would be good.
*Just last week, had a 4dr pu pull into blm land, but stayed parked on road- didnt pull into space to camp. 1 fm, 2 m.
Woman stood at back of truck smoking nervously (short but quick puffs), one guy layed on ground, the other had walked over to my tr & trailer. They acted like they were scoping out my trailer! I took phone and started recording them. They jumped in truck n took off!
Next day I left for about 1/2 hour. I got back to find a tractor - United rentals, with a huge empty flatbed trailer parked across from my trailer. I took quick video, but hooked up my trailer. He drove off as I was hooking up. Not sure if he had parked for dot break? Or if in cahoots with others - all they would have had to do is un- chalk, cut off hitch lock, and winch up on trailer....
Mine is 22'x8.5' wide and inside is 7' tall, so,larger/wider than most. Plus 6-250w solar panels on roof..... i need that gps system for sure!
Situational awareness is a must. My family thinks I am paranoid, so I will send your video so they realize the reality out on the road (although no different than stick n bricks thieves 😢).
Thank you for helping fellow travelers out!

    Hi guys,
I wish I could say I do all of those; but I can’t. I did install a safe behind my bedroom TV to store my valuables, keys, and of course, my firearms. I don’t travel with a long gun; but, if I did, i would install my gun box under the bed. I’m really kinda interested in the GPS tracker and maybe the Ring camera. We also have a ring camera on our rig. Also added door sensors to each of the cargo bays. We hear a chime every time one of them is opened. Also have a ring motion sensor in the ceiling of our car above the driver seat so every time someone sits down there we hear a specific wind chime sound inside the RV.

I was able to fix it immediately. I also installed stickers on the doors warning that I have cameras and audio. I haven’t had a problem since.

New Jersey? Non-LEO having guns in NJ is about impossible. As a person that now lives in TX, I do not like going in the gun forbidden zone of the USA as my TX plates make LEO want to stop me, just to see if I have Guns. My family has lived in NJ since 1690s, now all my immediate living family has moved from NJ. So, how does one go through NJ, NY, MD, MA, CN, RI with TX plates? I would love to go, again, to the White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City. signed just don't want the grief.

My biggest fear is losing my motor home (class a) to a thief. This is a huge inconvenience not having my home away from home. So since day one I wired in a gps tracker in a hidden location. With it I can track to within 12 inches of its location and it never fails plus it’s programmed to notify me of any odd movement like a bump against it. It’s 4 years old and works still for a small fee. That’s my insurance. It’s funny to say if you protect your unit nothing happens to it.

Watched you video when it came out and yesterday we discovered a unique problem with our RV Lock. It is not with the dead bolt lock but it is with the one connected to the door handle. I like the fact that if it is in the lock position you can't close the door and get locked out, however late yesterday the door was closed with the knob partially over towards the lock position. This allowed the door to close and it locked the door handle. Now we were locked out of the RV and needed a key to get back in. Unique problem.

I always use the locking pin on the towbar. I also take all the safety cables and electrical cables and lock them in a compartment when not in use. I also remove the adapter pins from the car base plate . You know, the parts the towbar attaches to. It would be incontinent to replace them on a trip.

I just want to share everything good except locking pin setup. I have a towable and went to a workshop recently at a rally where they talked about safety. One of the things I was surprised about was the danger of locking mechanisms on trailers to tow vehicles. They said that if you are towing and there is an accident or fire, the authorities need to be able to disconnect a towable quickly from the tow vehicle and to use a quick disconnect pull pin- just sayin. I dunno. It makes sense but I thought I would share for thought.
I use a reolink battery operated stand-alone camera for campsites. I can see outside before going outside and that is important to me. It connects to my phone so it is perfect for Internet or no Internet places.

While locks will only keep an honest man honest, that's no reason to fore-go their use. It's like buying an insurance policy with only 1 premium payment. Also, I LOVED the big, scarey black gun! I din't realize the differance of air tags and gps units. Thanks for the lesson!

  • @LewisBX
    @LewisBX 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I don't know if many people are interested, but sometimes you need to look at a problem with a lot of Angst. Like remotely switched ignition. That won't stop a real car thief's toolbox.. don't worry about it and switch the fuel pump instead. All newer vehicles have electronic fuel injection. And high pressure fuel pumps. If that won't work, hotwiring t motor is not going to make it move. It's more work, but think about installing a racing style of steering wheel that can be quickly removed. Then lock t end of your steering column

Always used lockable hitch pin sine back to the 1980’s. However, over 50 years of RVing I left many items out, not locked, and have never lost anything to theft. The day that I am fearful of this life, Im quitting right then. So far it has been an escape from those types of people that prey on others, much safer than typical neighborhoods.

An easy locking hitch pin is the one from Bolt, it is able to be keyed to your vehicle (if they have a compatible model) so you don’t have to carry around ANOTHER key. However, with everything going keyless these days I’m not sure what’s compatible anymore. But it’s great if you have a tow rig that’s a few years old!

Air tags are a security risk.
In a populated area, blue tooth connects to iPhones and other blue tooth devices to form a network that can pinpoint your location to within inches.
When you turn off the iPhone, the iPhone becomes an air tag.
The phone is not completely turned off.
Now, android has the technology included to form a similar blue tooth network.

I wish i would have saw some of the tips a few months ago! Our New 2023 16.6 No Bounderies trailer was stolen after two days of being stored at a so called "secured" storage facility. Really sucks we're still in the hole $8K as insurance didn't cover the whole loan. 😢

Another deterrent for catalytic converter theft is having your VIN stamped on the unit, where it will be readily seen. Check with your local law enforcement agencies, as many areas have annual programs, often for free, at local lube shops.
Also, if you plan on visiting a national park with a firearm in tow, make sure you know the rules. If it is a park with exclusive jurisdiction, you will have to have your firearm unassembled and stored out of reach/plain site. CCW permits are not honored either, so be informed before you arrive.

Proven Industries. Hitch pins, towable locks, and all different trailer security items. THE BEST! Pricey, but cheap in value compared to a stolen trailer. American made. Check out these folks. The #1 security action in my humble opinion is situational awareness. If it seems unsafe, it probably is. Tune up your "spidey sense" and watch, watch and watch some more. Stay safe.

I took your recommendation on RV Lock a few months ago. Unfortunately, I could not install it to my satisfaction. I just couldn't get it to fit flush inside the cutout and I was worried about damaging something so I sent it back. I still would like to install one. Not sure though.

Great security tips, I gave basically the same tips out 20 years ago. I retired in 2007. The AirTags weren’t around back then but most everything else was. Typically no one cares until they become the “victim”, then of course it’s the Police’s fault.
