- In this installment I give you an up close and personal look at both the 2023 Ford F150 Raptor R and the 2023 RAM TRX to give you my thoughts on which truck is the one to own. These are two baddest trucks on the road, but which one is the king? Which truck would you choose?

I work for a dealer as a car detailing I have driven both to my shop to do a full ceramic coating and for some reason I like the way the ram feels like. It feels more powerful and more planted, they got the interior design perfect and super comfortable. Also for some reason it feels bigger inside. The raptor looks cheap in the inside but it feels more jumpy like more body roll and you can feel the ground more. Both trucks are amazing and I’ll be happy with either one
I've driven both and have a 2021 TRX with a 2024 allocation no more after that cause i dont want a V6 lol.. I agree with you on the feel and comfort.. The TRX is just a great solid truck all the way around...Raptor is great but think imo the TRX has the edge...

Honest review, good to watch
I was a V8 only/GM guy for a long time, had a few Chevy/GMC trucks, then my ‘15 Sierra got totaled by a deer after I just paid it off- I took the ins check & instead of just automatically getting another GM 1/2 ton I opted to be open minded & drove “everything” & then drove a 2018 Raptor & immediately knew that was truck for me- the 3.5EB completely changed my mind on the Ford boosted engines, sooo much torque & no turbo lag & an extra 50-100whp/wtq is available w/ just a tune & I get 15.5mpg overall. Ironically my ‘18 Raptor got totaled by a distracted driver in Nov of 2020 (right after I paid it off of course) & w/ 43k miles on it the ins company gave me a settlement check that amounted to MORE than what I originally paid for it + tax + $2100 in mods I put on it!!!!!!!! That’s how well they hold value, & that’s right about when the car market started going crazy….I got $71.5k free & clear from insurance & again- drove EVERYTHING- including a TRX, at the time for what loaded Raptors stickered for, the TRX was right in the same ballpark- would I have preferred a V8 in the Raptor? Sure…but enough to sway me to buy the TRX instead? Nope. Gave that whole story in case anyone bothered to read it just to let everyone know from someone who was/is not a Ford brand loyalist & has owned 2 3.5HO Raptors….that’s how good they are esp as a daily driver. My truck w/ a tune made 442whp/483rwtq on 93 octane. That’s like 550hp/600tq @ the crank- that’s PLENTY of power & still gets 15.5mpg……all this being said, that’s why I’d take a Raptor R over a TRX

I do like the body style of the TRX better. But those prices are way too high to even justify purchasing one or the other. Love the review, especially in an AWD style day.
The TRX body is unique that none of the other RAM 1500 have unlike the Raptor R or the Third gen they all have the same body including Tremors and regular F-150 they just widens it using the wider fenders, Ford knows how to save money.

The TRX is soooo much better looking inside & out. I like the Ford's wide infotainment screen better.
Three lights in front is actually front rear, and it is 5 lights. You need to count the 2 outermost lights on the side. Comparable to clearance lights on semi trucks and I believe falls under the same light rules. But fantastic video.
Love driving the TRX and hearing that supercharger whine. It’s truly a beast of a truck. Racer X you should have put that Rex in sport mode 🦖

TRX all day! This special truck changed the way we view pick up trucks. Listening to the super charge whine and one of kind first impression presence on the road.

I think the only way you choose between these two is firstly if there is any brand loyalty, and second would be availability. I prefer the TRX interior like you, but like you mentioned, with these price increases Stellantis could kiss my ass if I were still in the market for one.
Agreed.. I’ve only seen Raptor Rs at dealerships around my area and they all have 30+ thousand dollar markups. TRXs seem to be all over the place actually being driven. This really hurts the Raptor R imho
agreed! Im a Ford guy but chose the trx. Got mine summer 2022 for waaaay less than new ones now and the raptor r....prices r have gone absolutely out of control now for both!
Great video. Agree with the review. I haven't driven the raptor R, but I own the TRX. I love everything about the TRX, so awesome, so comfortable, makes you feel so special to drive, and that's why I bought it. My twin brother has a raptor, and after riding with me in the TRX he said he doesn't enjoy the ride in his ford as much any more. I think the heavier feeling in the TRX helps it handle better in snow and on gravel roads. I never thought I would ever own a dodge, ever, but I'm so glad I changed my opinion and got the TRX. I have nothing against ford, but since my twin had one I decided to do the TRX.
First off great video! I'm a die hard Mopar guy and I drive both of these trucks at work. Everything you said about that Raptor R is spot on! Especially looking at your reactions 😂. The TRX is Everything to me being a Mopar guy. But if I had to choose. I'm going Raptor R!

2022 TRX for 83k new from Granger in Iowa level 2...even if the R was "better" hard to beat that price imho!
I LOVE BOTH TRUCKS PERIOD AND WOULD BE PROUD TO DRIVE TO DRIVE EITHER ONE DAILY. THEY ARE BOTH VERY INCREDIBLE TRUCKS . TO TOUGH TO CHOOSE I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE EACH ONE TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT , I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A MOPAR FAN BUT STILL TOUGH TO CHOOSE WITHOUT DRIVING THEM , GREAT VIDEO AND THANK THE GM FOR LETTING US RIDE IN HER AWESOME TRUCK 💯👍👏👏
Awesome video Bud! Both are compelling truck options! I still have to pick the TRX. I prefer the look and the supercharger sound. TO be honest, in the cold start portion, I liked the TRX's exhaust note more. That 6.2 is a larger displacement engine that offers a deeper throated sound.
100% TRX looks better, sounds better, bigger displacement & does 90% of what the R can do for like 35k less...plus the supercharger sound is intoxicating! I heard the Raptor R has a bit of fake sound pumped through the speakers 🤔

Ford Fan children will always knock other brands cause anyone that will say the TRX is not a great truck is ignorant and that is a fact ( many ford guys i've spoke to say the TRX is a great truck even if they prefer the Raptor) cause i've owned both as well and can say the TRX is a fantastic truck and easily inline with the Raptor. I will not reply to the foolishness anymore as you are truly an idiot Mr Bruce the Dragon lol...Really your comeback is have you owned a Military Tank or Jet WOW...I had way more build issues from my Fords and I own a company with many Trucks from all Brands. My 21 TRX has pulled a trailer most of its life with 79500 miles and has not had any issues at all other than a small recall. My 2019 F150 FX4 was always being fixed and it had the 5.0 V-8 in it.... I dont normal reply like this but i'm tired of idiots that just type something cause they happen to borrow they daddys F150...STFU Bruce the Dragon... Its fine to prefer one or the other but to cut down the truck as if its crap is just well dumb...Mike this is a person you will never win with cause he knows everything learning it all from Dads Basement...
I love my ‘23 TRX, no problems yet at 15K. I use it for work so it still makes me money.

I've seen them both at the dealerships And actually the raptor exhaust note is really nice The video did not do it Justice But the TRX with that super charger wine You just can't beat that so I would go with the TRX Plus that truck Looks like it wants to eat you And the raptor It's just such an aggressive looking truck.
The highest MSRP price with all options for the raptor R is actually 111k. You cannot option it up to 120K. 120K means you are paying a markup.
My friend bought a brand new 2022 TRX level 1 with panoramic roof for $76,000 NEW… what a change in two years…

Great video, both great trucks and I almost bought the trx but I decided to go with the 2500 Hd ram rebel because I thought it might be better for pulling a trailer, plus I didn’t know if you could get the trx with the ram boxes which I really like
Unfortunately you can't get with the Rambox.. Now I use mine to pull around 5k pounds a lot and it does fantastic... Obviously the 2500 would be better suited for daily Towing but I'm an idiot and use my TRX daily for work Towing a landscaping trailer 😂 ...
Last I checked the Rebel trim was only available for the 1500, which is what the TRX is based on. 🤔
@@DJGRocThere are 2024 Ram 2500 Rebels out now. You can even option them with a Cummins. I looked at one at my local dealer a couple days ago when I was getting a vehicle inspection done. It stickered at about $84k.
@@ZLPOWER That must be new for '24 then. The Cummins has always been an option on the 2500 & above. The 6.4L is also an option with the 2500 & the Power Wagon.
@@DJGRoc Actually the 6.4 is the standard motor in the 2500 class. It's the only motor you can get on the Power Wagon as well. The Cummins is optional in the 2500 and only comes with the 68rfe auto. If you want the H.O. Cummins with the Aisin then you gotta go up to the 3500 if I remember correctly.

I actually own a ram but not a TRX and i also have a GMC and another ford F350 for pulling my camper so i guess i like them all lol

Great review. I love both trucks but because I'm a dye hard Ford fan I would pick the Raptor R. I do already have a 2021 Gt500 that I have a bunch of money and upgrades in making 1100 RWHP so I'm sticking with it I absolutely love it. Thanks for the great content.

I've owned both and think they are both great but as of now love the TRX as its been a very solid truck for me but you can't go wrong with either.. It's one thing to be a fan of anything but to bash the other is just childish IMO lol..
I am A Ford guy but I do like all the Hellcat's the Challanger, Charger,Durango, the Jeep and the TRX they did an awesome job with all of them. If I had the money I would have one of each. But I absolutely love my Gt500 so that's the last one I'll be buying at this point in my life.

I have to be honest, between the two the TRX looks 10 times better.. interior and exterior. The Ford looks like a cheap truck in the interior is terrible. The TRX is the best bang for the buck. And much cheaper. AWESOME vid Mr X.. prayers for your mom

If you have seen both in person, you’d know the Ford looks better outside.
While I agree with you on preferring the look of the TRX exterior/interior over the Raptor R, I have to admit that Ford has done an outstanding job upgrading their interiors. There’s some cheaper feeling plastic bits but, the seats are SUPER comfortable. Ram really set an industry standard with the interiors, forcing GM & Ford to catch up. And in many ways, they both did. Either way, picking between these two trucks is a hard one but, I myself would give the nod to the TRX. I would love to see a 700+ HP Tundra/Tacoma competitor. I think I’d have to go with Toyota if they ever decided to make one.

Absolutely agree both are fantastic trucks and I got to drive the Raptor R and owned 2 Raptors in the past 2014 and 2021. I just couldn't turndown the TRX and now have a 2021 and Allocation for a 2024 TRX (if it ever gets built) ... I hate those who say oh the Raptor is a POS or the Ram is a POS cause it's such uneducated remarks.. Both are perfect reliable muscle trucks... I just personally gave the edge to Ram and that's why I switched...Then you get "but the Raptor can do burnouts" like who cares if I can spin the back wheels 😂... Love your content!
Have a 2021 trx with 30k on the odometer and not one problem and l get 35 smiles to a gallon!!

I would go with Raptor R.
The RaptorR is known for its speed limiter starting to kick in before the 1/4 is up. Its capable of much better top end.
The GM of the dodge dealership owns a Ford Raptor R. That says everything. Ford for the win 😂
I would choose the RAM TRX because I own one, and I love it. I personally feel the Ram looks better and drives better and is more comfortable. And still the board interior looks cheap like a Tonka truck.
The ford motors make more rpm quicker then the hemi, and for a supercharger that might make the tip in difference
The Ford motors also don’t smoke cams/lifters like the Hemi
That TRX is missing the factory carbon fiber interior trim option. For the year after year, the price increase that carbon fiber should come standard at this point.

I’ve had both and the light and nimble feel of the Raptor R puts it in the lead for me. TRX just feels kinda heavy.
Not sure about the all wheel drive in the TRX. I haven't researched it. But what I have found thus far is it is always in all wheel drive. There is no rear-wheel drive option. The Ford on the other hand can be used in just rear-wheel drive. Meaning less wear and tear on the full drivetrain. Also, the "all wheel drive" (4A) in the Ford is not all wheel drive. It is full four wheel drive (same as 4Hi), but power is sent to the front through a clutch pack. This allows for the difference in wheel speed when turning on pavement without damaging the system. Then when in 4HI or 4LO the clutch pack is locked up.
Correct, TRX does not have a dedicated 2WD mode. R > TRX
TRX, clear choice. I'd hate to be a 23 R owner a lot of those got torn into with issues before they even received tbem. Not to mention they made the 24 R a much looking truck with more power. Also the fact everyone likes the TRX better 😂

i have had both. Got the launch edition trx had for 4 years. Have had 4 raptors over the years also. The raptor r takes the win in all catorories to me. Have had all of them

The way I picked was the TRX was 100k sticker no games but the Raptor R everywhere was at least 30k over msrp totaling 140k so i chose the TRX and saved 40k 😊 . This was hard because I'm a Ford guy and I love my 2021 GT500 so I wanted that motor in my F150 but did not see giving a dealer 30k for nothing an option. These truck are expensive enough why throw your money away in over msrp charges
I'm a mopar guy but even I say there pretty evenly matched. Therefore , whichever you prefer. I like the styling of the ram better and I'm a mopar guy so I'm picking it. Ram screwed up when they didn't put the redeye engine in it.

RacerX - to answer your question, you pick the one without the 10R80 transmission. You reviewers keep ignoring the glaring fault of the RaptoR, which is a timebomb transmission that is not built for the truck it is put into. I was looking forward to the RaptoR until it was reported that they were using the standard F-150 10R80 transmission with a custom electronic calibration for the RaptoR (not designed for high HP/Torque applications). It may be fun to drive at first, but put some miles on it, encounter problems (and you will have them) and start paying a lot more money getting it fixed constantly. Mechanics love the 10R80 because it keeps them rolling in the repair business.

Proud TRX Owner here. Chose between the TRX and the R. But the TRX price point being 40k less due to the Insane markups on The R solidified my decision. In my area the V6 Raptor is only 10-12k less than a TRX and The R is 30-40K more with the markup. Easy decision for me when purchasing! TRX all the way.
I will mention while the TRX is the king of the trucks on the current market…it is Zero match compared to my wife’s M8 Competition. We got the best of both worlds!
Really need an off-road/ Baja style course to run them both on. Maybe that would differentiate them both a little more from one another. Both trucks totally kick a** and both out of reach from the masses
You'll get a bit more beat up on Mohave woops and rollers over the miles in the TRX. The RaptorR suspension would pull me in alone.
In Australia the Raptor R is twice the price at nearly 500k so its a no brainer for the TRX.
I owned a 2021 TRX and I really liked it !! I sold it and and later I bought Ford Raptor just because and drove it for 6 months !! I liked it but I really missed my TRX much more !! Now I purchased 2024 TRX and I am very very happy !!! Exact same truck but $20000 more !! But I am very glad I got one again !! Thats all I can say !!! I am keeping this one for good !! LOL.
You should find a new Rauch F150 that is supercharged. My dad has one. It blows the dust off a TRX it’s really fast.

The Ford will hold up better if you’re actually beating on it. You already know the axles/diff are a lil suspect on the TRX, otherwise they would have made it 4x4 instead of AWD w/ the ability to send all the power to the rear wheels only
The Dana 60 is a lot heavier duty than the R's. Just facts snd the 95 series 8sp will hold more power too.

u forgot to mention the 37” tires on the R as a factor in racing. trying to accelerate a taller and heavier tire significantly hurts your acceleration.
Pretty sure the raptor r does not have an aluminum frame. If it did the weight savings would be more than 400 overall. That would explain the price tag however. Thanks love the channel!

F150 FP700 package. That's what's king. Once that whipple is on there, you're a tune away from running a 10 second 1/4 mile. All for less than $50K
I think it comes down to personal preference. I like both trucks too, but for my money I'd take the Raptor. Now admittedly I'm more of a Ford guy, but I do love the sound of the TRX better. I like the interior of the Raptor better, both in the seating and the screen, wider versus longer. I like the Guage screen better in the TRX and I think the tire wheel combo looks better. May come down to tire performance however. Otherwise they're not much different performance wise.
Dodge in general has a heavy throttle.. they need a tune, or some sort of pedal commander to remove the throttle lag.
The Raptor has always looked like a regular truck with a widebody kit slapped on it. It has always just looked clunky. The TRX on the other hand, is just beautifully designed & sleek, & purpose built for off-roading. Bilstein built the shocks from the ground up for the TRX. You won't find them on any other vehicle. 💪🏼
The Raptor is WAY more “purpose built” than the TRX, first of all- it has real 4wd & ability to run 2wd, then there’s the 4.10s, the smaller wheel matched to a larger tire/thicker sidewall, the locking diff, the greater wheel travel/clearance, the fact that it was actually run in real Baja races - etc etc etc

@@ryane6719 Yea some people in these comments say things that don't make much sense. The Raptor is the slightly more purpose built truck, the Ram is more of a luxury type truck if we really go into detail. Most people pick it over the Raptor because of visuals and overall design and styling and whine sound even, but obviously pricing too. Put both trucks on the dirt and even the Ecoboost can beat the TRX, that's actually been tested too. Not to mention both Bronco Raptor and Raptor R just recently won the Baja 1000 race in their respective classes.

You can barely tell a TRX from a regular Ram. Rams sucks and Dodges used to. Everybody talks about Ram interiors but it’s just lipstick on a pig!

Ram did extensive head to head testing at Wild West Off road track in Reno.
They had pro drivers with multiple Ford's and multiple Rams.
Watching it was clear Ram was a better unit

Base Gen 3 Raptors already had the TRX beat across the board.
They have a much more capable chassis and suspension, the Raptor R just snatched away the TRX’s only advantage which was power.
A perfectly smooth dirt track is not going to be a real test for either vehicle and it was intentionally geared to favor the more powerful Ram. In the only actual desert race between the two that I could find, a 37 equipped Ecoboost Raptor (which should realistically be worse in a desert race due to the extra unsprung weight and lower suspension travel) beat the TRX by a not-insignificant 7 seconds, on a 4 minute course. This despite it being down on power and the driver saying he could have driven the Raptor harder.

Hey Racer X. Do you know which truck is easier to throw mods at? I know the Hellcat platform takes upgrades easily (pulley, injectors, tune, etc) but what about the Ford setup?

Saving up for a TRX. In the perfect world I could keep my Widebody Scat Pack Charger, but I'll probably have to trade it in to afford a TRX.

Either Way its a WIN. ..
Tip in is faster because of the 10 speed if both are in auto mode. Put the TRX in sport mode and it's a completely different experience.
But still slower than the R

Good review, both trucks are cool, but in truth, the dealer mark ups on the Raptor R, are ridiculous! One dealer wants 185K, and the truck is just not worth that, it’s actually fords fault for not producing enough of them. What good is building a cool truck, that no one can afford to buy? I used to be a ford fan, but once I drove a TRX, I bought one, because it was a good value.
