Rivian is a jack of all trades and the master of being the safest large vehicle in the world (IIHS Top Safety Pick +). Which is a perfect vehicle for my family and lifestyle. It's great as a daily driver, drag racer, canyon carver, rally vehicle, sand dune carver, off road, snow driving, towing, family adventure vehicle, and the list goes on. Can't say that about the competition. Is it worth 100k? To me, absolutely. It's a VERY VERY short list of vehicles that meets the capability of a Rivian. You have to live with one to know.
I mean I agree with that, but I also feel all those ways about my regular F-150. A Raptor variant or Rivian might be even more fun in some respects but I am perfectly content with how my regular pickup daily drives, carves corners (would like a limited slip diff perhaps), handles offroad shenanigans and tows etc.
Surprisingly the Rivian having fully independent suspension has more flex than the rear solid axle/IFS Ranger Raptor. Gen 1 Rivian scores 510 on a 20 degree RTI. Meanwhile the Ranger Raptor scores 443.
Being the Rivian doesn’t have traditional swaybars that does make potential sense if the air suspension is adaptive. Does the Ranger have disconnectable swaybars at all?
I was about to mention that but pretty sure many will not understand. It did look better for the ranger on the innitial rock but also rivian has a much larger wheelbase. Like 7 inches longer
RR is really what I’d call as close to perfect as you can get in an off-road capable truck. Great HP, Good MPG, Comfortable and No stress as a Daily Driver! Hopefully, as you said Andre, Ford won’t jack up the price and ruin the Value!

I'm glad someone is finally taking one of these offroad. I have the same issue with my R1, there's no low end torque to crawl, it just kinda jerks forward. I'm glad this is fixed with their in house motors.
Yeah 1st gen lacked the starting/stall torque to crawl, seems 2nd gen/in house motors are a bit better. Mercedes-Benz solved this on the G580 by having a two speed transmission on each motor.
Aftermarket could probably address the issue on the 1st gens by creating bolt-on portal/gear reduction... which would make it virtually unstoppable but range would take a hit.

Great video guys. I want to see more rivian comparison. Include an R1S. Also i have had the experience to play with some settings including the stability control and senn better results on vectoring than just the preset. There other people explaining this in videos as well. I think the quad motor may of done better if set properly
i agree the Rivian control even looks better on video in compare the older, just not quiet good enough, if the vectoring power could come earlier and with some smoother control, idk how if they can make some just electronic management to get it smoother or if it has to be some sort of low range trans case
At the Razor Rocks, is it still possible to not drive straight up onto the rocks, and to turn left staying close to the tree, right tires going onto the rocks at first and then off?
Here’s the thing about truck prices: anytime they sell more than they can make, they are losing money. Mfg’s are for-profit companies, not charities. If someone is willing to pay more than you, that is who they will sell to, even if you think it’s unfair. If a vehicle hasn’t sat on the lot unsold for at least a year, they are unlikely to budge on the price. If a model never stays on the lot for more than a month, they are probably going to add dealer markup until it does. Look for something that a dealer has sat on in the lot for over a year if you want to haggle for a better price.
Were in the best age of vehicle technology! Example diffrent takes on traction controle, lockers, cruise controles, power trains, TV screens, old school small rims, new school large rims (more side wall for 4x4 or large rim for performance and fuel economy), most importantly everything is reliable compared to carburetor.
And also they have not adjust the stability control which controls how little or much the tires spin before intervension. I will argue that would change the innitial rock climbing they did. I have adjusted and it made a big difference
I wonder how an R1T in Dual Standard (which is far closer in price) would compare to the Ranger Raptor? Wouldn't that be a more meaningful comparison??
How is it so difficult to figure out the traction in a Rivian? Doesn’t each wheel have a sensor, so increase power to the wheel that’s spinning slowest?? Also it seems the gearing on the Rivian isn’t geared for crawling.
I've noticed that tire ratings(2 vs 3 peaks) are mentioned frequently on these off road comparisons. Three peak rated vs the older designs. I would like to see a comparison on those 3 peak tires! Three peak vs the older version of the same tire, with the same wheels, same size, same conditions/trail and same vehicle. That way you really are comparing as tires as best you can without other factors impacting the results. Again, as best you can, and not necessarily in lab conditions. Just how much better is a 3 peak tire in the same vehicle in the same conditions?
I really like these two rigs. the size is really attractive to me.. I think I really want a plug in hybrid though... Used Cayenne Hybrid or one of these two is kinda where I'm at..
Raptor kicks Rivians butt. Plus the whole bottom is battery on rivian. Is that protected at all? Dent a battery pay what\? 25 grand our more? A truck for off road with a glass roof?? Seems like bad idea.
We could drive the Ford Ranger Raptor for ten years, then convert it to an Electric Vehicle (EV), and still save money! Or in ten years sell it to buy a Ford EV Raptor. Also with a Raptor we'll have more fun, have less depreciation, save on insurance, and have a factory warranty sold by Granger Motors!!!!!!!!❤
I am surprised Rivian is still around honestly. But it's a no brainer. For weight, trail long term fueling and refueling, buying cost. The gas truck, even though i don't like ford is the clear and only option.
Folks don't really buy them just for offroad. You get more of a full package with the Rivian; its a crazy fast sports car that can go offroad, and haul WAY more than ICE cars with the frunk and gear tunnel
@jake-ly yeah, tell me you own one without telling me you own one. Just about everyone those points has been debunked. This is also an off road test...sooo. happy trails
The traction response of the Rivian was not impressive... especially for the price of this vehicle. I do think it is far superior to the Cybertruck... especially in exterior looks and interior quality. I just wish they weren't so expensive. I'm not sure they can sustain a profitable company at those prices without some sort of entry level model. Time will tell.
Off road the cyber truck is better it has more ground clearance and 2 lockers to the rivians non and also due to its body dont have to worry about pain or rock chips
😂😂. Not just numbers. I have seen a few cybertrucks missing panels and plastics while offrading. Almost like they started to sell them with out testing them first. Before the rivian started to sell them they already have tested them from la patagonia to california. Two very different approaches
Rivian's "just floor it until you get over the obstacle" is annoying. It encourages terrible post-obstacle behavior. It really should try harder on the more-than-dual-motor versions before insisting you apply more accelerator. The vehicle is absolutely capable of amazing things off-roading, it's just the software's decisions that are silly. "No, that tire is in the air, you can stop trying to spin that one. Try spinning the two that are firmly planted and your sensors can feel resistance to spin…"
Fun video, guys! But vehicles are wayyyy too expensive these days. Ford wants over $50k for a baby truck? No thanks. Rivian over $100k. Neither are worth it.

Great video guys. I want to see more rivian comparison. Include an R1S. Also i have had the experience to play with some settings including the stability control and senn better results on vectoring than just the preset. There other people explaining this in videos as well. I think the quad motor may of done better if set properly
I realize it’s not always dry out there, but you should bring some sidewalk chalk to mark those rocks.
When Andre says “basically 33” is he referring to the fact that bfg is consistently an inch or more smaller than they claim?
i agree the Rivian control even looks better on video in compare the older, just not quiet good enough, if the vectoring power could come earlier and with some smoother control, idk how if they can make some just electronic management to get it smoother or if it has to be some sort of low range trans case
2 Rangers for the price of 1 Rivian. Ya, no...
Rivian has an onboard compressor you could have used on the Ranger :D
Tommy looking like Casey Neistate 😂😎
Need to compare the quad motor
And also they have not adjust the stability control which controls how little or much the tires spin before intervension. I will argue that would change the innitial rock climbing they did. I have adjusted and it made a big difference
I really love the ranger raptor.
Mach-e Rally snow test, please.
It can tow 11000, but how far on the highway?
About 100miles are so that's why its made for short distance towing which is like 90% of toeing distance most ppl do
I wonder how an R1T in Dual Standard (which is far closer in price) would compare to the Ranger Raptor?
Didn't TFL already do an off-road video with Rivian? I thought it showed EV's without lockers aren't as robust off-road as ICE vehicles with lockers.
Last gen truck
Not sure if anyone said it but the Ko3 on the RR are a different version. There is a tire guy on YT that did a video comparison
Link?
@Doughnutscream search for it ....
Bots
It sure didn't look like max height on the Rivian.
Was there a reason not to air down?
Also the scorpions are trash.
For that money, the Rivian should be on portals
For that money its going to stay on the dealer lot.
@@gabrielback5615if it wasn't for VW rivian would be bankrupt
It’s an electric truck with a flat floor, it doesn’t need portals.
Bro what?? Nothing at this price point has portal axles... A 4x4² is like 500k.
Very very few and only one car manufacturer actually has ever put portal axles on vehicles and it's Mercedes Benz
$58,000 + tax tle lce = 🤪 Great video
I am surprised Rivian is still around honestly. But it's a no brainer. For weight, trail long term fueling and refueling, buying cost. The gas truck, even though i don't like ford is the clear and only option.
They just had a huge 5 billion dollar deal with Volkswagen. I think they’ll stick around. If they do under they’ll be survived in the Scout’s software
@@user-cg7cc7zj3e What has been debunked? That its fast? That it can go offroad? Or that it can haul a lot with its frunk?
You seem a bit bitter.
@@Jay-me7gw pffff hahaha, hahahaha
Just started watching but from everything I have hard you can't get those raptors without 10k of dealer markups so would be nice to mention that
I don’t understand this comparison nor your channels fascination with EV.
Can we get more colorado zr2 content as well?
Dual motor Cybertruck with it’s dual lockers feels like the sweet spot for electric offroading right now
First (REAL) comment
27:58 that doesn’t seem right…
The traction response of the Rivian was not impressive... especially for the price of this vehicle.
How you guys have not had the New Colorado ZR2 Bison compared to any of these yet is a sin.
Try spinning the two that are firmly planted and your sensors can feel resistance to spin…"
with the Rivian you will go through a lot of tires because of that wheel spin
You're very handsome! 😂 Love you guys!
Fun video, guys! But vehicles are wayyyy too expensive these days. Ford wants over $50k for a baby truck? No thanks. Rivian over $100k. Neither are worth it.
RR is not a "baby truck". That would be the Maverick. See how I cleared that up for you? Now go buy one! 😆
IDC waht orientation veh screens arenas long as they dont atick up off the dash like an after thought
