      Comparing to a truck from many years ago makes literally zero sense. Compare the RHO to a base model Raptor and suddenly, the RHO is the far better bargain. Just say you're a mindless Ram hater and move on.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Base for base, they are pretty close in price, but have you looked at current prices for just regular 1500s. You can easily get a Rebel up to $75,000, without all that power, wide body or advance active suspension. What is a last call TRX going for now? $120K? Compared to the Raptor V6, the RHO is a bargain, with much more power and about 10K cheaper spec for spec.

    • @Pilot545
      @Pilot545 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gpajeActually, spec for spec, they are about the same. Don’t believe me, go price them out. I did and the RHO comes in about as much as a Raptor 37 PP. Soooo, base Raptor is actually the bargain here.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @Pilot545 I did price them, I'm actually in the process of choosing one of them, and the Raptor is more expensive with substantially less power, how do you figure it's a bargain, even if they were the same price considering the power difference??? 37" tires aren't that expensive, also the RHO is 37 ready with 90 more hp.

  • @coachvonyo
    @coachvonyo หลายเดือนก่อน +26

    Sounded like a little excuse making for the R on that first obstacle. It definitely struggled more mainly because you could see it feeding more power to the tires without traction and less to the ones that needed it whereas the RHO seemed better at distributing power where it needed to be. Better clearance on the R was evident. Very good comparison and both trucks were very close and did well overall.

    • @tallll70

      There were numerous tests by TFL and Driving Sports TV where it shows Ford wheel braking AWD is struggling in comparisons to point it's not getting out actually on different vehicles same way, it's ok they can improve most likely, Ford should so the AWD together with 4 Auto is complete

    • @johnagmail3216
      @johnagmail3216 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% Correct, and that was supposed to be fixed by applying the brakes to the wheels with less traction to trick the trucks into applying the power where needed...at least with Nissan back 10 years ago...apparently Ford didn't pick up on that...and it was very obvious.

    • @2003evodave
      @2003evodave 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Two things were the problem here,
      1- the driver was obviously afraid of the Fords extra power plus apprehensive due to these being borrowed vehicles.
      2- The driver is not that good at off roading, especially in the snow and ice.

    • @coachvonyo
      @coachvonyo 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@2003evodave 2 ways I would refute that.
      1. The trucks were driven nearly identically, and the "light" tires were spinning on the R, so the power was there.
      2. These guys live in and operate all the TFL channels out of Boulder. They drive off-road and in the snow for a living. There are few out there with the experience of these guys.

      @@Ozzyfrk18 I agree 💯 !! Then the RHO would make it look that much easier. If the Ram had 37s and KO2s which isn't my fave tire by far it would make it look way way easy. The Raptor would really look like it's struggling if they did what u suggested about the tires.. and the last thing he said when they picked which truck they would want he said the raptor because it sounds better LOL that's the only thing he could say. But in my opinion if you put an exhaust on that inline 6 twin turbo hurricane engine I love the sound of a turbo better than I do a supercharger anyway at crawling speeds with a good exhaust damn inline 6 turbo sound like a little diesel I would much prefer that over the faint whine of the supercharger or exhaust note of the raptor. And on top of that yeah the raptor has a couple hundred more horsepower but what are you going to do put a smaller pulley on it get a little bit more power out of it. Turbos or limitless they can make that ram stomp that raptor easily with some tuning some fuel and a few other things. Me personally I would 100 % take the ram just as they are right now. Use the 20,30 thousand-dollar difference in cost and make a 1,000 horsepower RHO on 37s.. hey we can all dream can't we lol.. The reason I say I'm happy with the engine in my 3rd gen Tacoma because it's 2000 lb lighter (4,500lbs) than these trucks. Anything I've thrown at that Tacoma TRD off-road 4X4 it has done VERY well had a lot of fun in Phoenix lake pleasant area & around crown King there's all kinds of trails. I don't go on anything hardcore but still doing what it does is amazing 🤩 you don't need to spend $80,000 to have a great time my truck was $41,000 with 120,000 mi warranty, manual transmission & probably more reliable haha... I just put on sumo spring bump stops to help with the washboard roads & when I'm towing, I also got it OTT tuned

      Raptor has the steps as well. The steps on the RHO sit higher than the skid plates underneath and they help with gravel/rock chips in the paint. If the RHO had the 37s that the Ford does, it wouldn't have scraped the rock at all.

    "Pull the bandage off" is funny. I don't understand why car manufacturers build a so-called extreme 4x4 with side steps. If the car manufacturer is installing 1 or 2 lockers, 35-37 inch tires, and skid plates, it should also have rock sliders. Car manufacturers need to start including a simple way to deactivate all the sensors/alarms when off-road.

    Great comparison video guys!
    I was sold on the RHO until I learned about the thermostat failures happening between 10-30k miles with other vehicles that have the Hurricane 3.0. If the thermostat gets stuck in the closed position, it will cause permanent engine damage with a warped head and block being the result. You won't see anything on the dipstick because there isn't one on this engine. You will need to look for the "milkshake" by looking at the inside of the oil fill cap. It's possible this issue has been resolved and maybe someone will chime in on this.
    The other issue I see with this engine is the plastic thermostat housing. Yep, plastic. That was a bad engineering decision to make the housing out of plastic. Both the thermostat and its housing is a PITA to replace if/when it comes time. I'm unsure if these parts fall under the powertrain warranty so an extended warranty may add some peace of mind.
    It's ironic that an engine called Hurricane has water problems. For me, I'm staying away from the Hurricane!
