I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. I have been around!

She needs to be Milli Vanillied. I knew I recognized her hit songs, they were all made by other artists...She should have stayed as a back up dancer. She's got no musical talent, acting talent, and it's been said she's not really all that when it comes to dancing.

Just a side note the best singers don't always make the 'best' songs, look at all the years of talent show winners with great voices and how many go on to create recognizable music careers?! . I'm a fan of a wide genre of artist and just want to agree that artist like Miley and Kesha CAN sing well enough and most importantly have artistic originality to their voice ❤️
Miley & Kesha still make a lot of trashy songs, compared to many talent show winners. The difference is the machine behind them. Promotion is very significant in an artist's success.
I won't be nice over a bad performance if I've paid for a ticket to see an artist.
Miley is a very good and unique vocalist
Madonna never had the best voice, but look at her impact on pop.(Queen of Pop). Taylor didn't either but she is a better songwriter than modern vocalists combined. (Folklore & Evermore)

I love how levelheaded and professional your critiques are. You aren’t here to drag people down and most singers have unique qualities that make people gravitate towards them.
I don't like the way the comparison is made. At some point, you have to compare what's comparable. Pitting Taylor Swift against Céline Dion or Patti Labelle against Britney Spears is irrevelent and not fair to any of them! Plus, the video seems to suggest that being a good singer is solely about hitting the highest notes, which is NOT the case! And editing the video to make it seem like the "good" singers are laughing at the "bad" ones was pure pettiness. There's nothing funny about shaming others! Fortunately, the vocal coach is professional enough to remain respectful and to not fall into that trap!

Unfortunately, maybe because of the media and shows like "idol" and "X Factor" people have been convinced that the only "good" singers are the ones that are loud and belt out every single note. With that being the metric now there are a lot of good singers that are now considered sub par.

I agree with you. Kesha is a good singer, she has improved over the years since 2010 that she started. Miley is a very good singer... I think that we only saw her worst performances because you can see her singing 'Malibu' on the Billboard Music Awards and she owned the stage but that's only one of her best performances. That's only my opinion! ;)

I'm a singer and I totally agree about the sound set-up. I've had blinding gigs where my pitch was great and others where it was pitifully bad and I was so embarrassed. The difference in being ABLE TO HEAR YOURSELF in the monitors, or not, makes all the difference.

Agreed. Some singers do vocal calisthenics to impress but it can just sound like screeching. I don't think it serves most songs well, just the singer trying to prove something. I'm no expert but it seems only a few can do it with finesse and not go overboard.
Totally agree some singers although great strong voice do shout and do that wobble thing ! I adore Madonna’s voice so pretty and gentle . Every singer has off days otherwise they’d be a robot !!!

I have the same opinion about Kesha and Miley , they even have powerful voices that are not necessarily enhanced in pop contructed songs. Selena only gets away with it because she’s gorgeous, but honestly shouldn’t dedicate her entire career to singing.
Shes DEFINITELY not the best. And I also think shes a better actor than a singer. But thats upto her and her fans. And what I do like about her is that, she is slowly improving on her newer albums.
She has an incredible voice it’s so unique and no one can actually sings like her or cover her songs ,she also dances during her performances and had lupus , has panic attacks and anxiety ,the girl is so strong and talented
