We are a 20 plus year Toyota family. Just bought a new Suburu. Toyota should fire everyone involved in inventory management. Their prices are just insane.
Got a rusty 1999 Land Cruiser for 6k only a few weeks before Toyota announced discontinuation. It was worth 13 grand after that. Never getting rid of it either way.
We were with Toyota for around 10 years, was considering a new Taco until I found out manufacturing is in Mexico which may explain the build quality issues, went with a Subaru OBW.
I kinda disagree and skipped the package for mine, but everyone has different preferences. I'd rather have the Softex seats because real leather is less durable. If I could pick and choose the items in the Premium Package I would only have wanted the leg bolster and the eye camera. The cool box is a nice toy to show off but the compartment ends up being way too small. I used to dig HUDs but with the advent of fully digital gauge clusters, you already get a giant speed readout, I don't need another one projected onto the windscreen.
Solid review. The Premium Pkg adds a number of options to consider: Sunroof, full leather, heads-up display, wireless charging, ice box/cool box under center armrest, a couple of safety additions, and a few other options. Well equipped, you will be around the $72k-$76k for the Landcruiser Premium Pkg.
Toyota makes incredibly durable vehicles - I hit a deer a couple of years ago in my 2015 4Runner and after unscrewing a loose piece of the fender, it drove just fine with only minor damage structurally…great vehicle well worth the $. I just bought a 2024 LC 1958 model.
The lack of 3 row is because of the hybrid version. With that battery bump, the chairs doesn't fit. In Europe we don't get the hybrid yet, but can choose a third row. The cost cupholder and USB outlet is probably cost saving at the factory.
Great video! I agree 100% with your assessment. I plan on trading in my 2013 4Runner in about a year or so for a new Toyota (looking at the new 4Runner as well). Right now this exact model is at the top of my list. I love it!! Still deciding, but my favorite exterior/interior right now is the white chill pearl with java. I saw one at the dealership recently, it was gorgeous!
Absolutely. Landcruiser has always been and always will be a very premium brand. It has always been an expensive SUV and it still is. However, it is very well built, somewhat exclusive, and tends to hold its value extremely well. It caters to a very specific demographic.
The point isn't here; the point is that this is a renamed Land Cruiser Prado, which is a tier less than a Land Cruiser but still sells for an expensive price. Cars in Saudi Arabia are more expensive than in the US, but the Land Cruiser Prado is cheaper here than in the US, and it has all of its features.
@@nullravager people dont understand, They are getting screwed big time. All they did was make it on a Cheaper platform, cheaper material and put a brand name on it to justify the pricing 😂 Test drove this while my runner was serviced and it is nowhere close to 50 grand plus This is a cash cash grab 🙈
agree, that's the version i'd get. Full size infotainment is nice, nicer seats/interior materials. I'm sure the 1st edition gives you more that the exterior add ons, but i can't remember what it is. maybe 2 tone paints? Not for $10K more though. The gray/black I've seen, isn't impressive.
Where I live in MA, some of the dealerships are tacking on a $10K "screwing over the customer" fee for the mid-level trim. So much for making the Land Cruiser more affordable. 😠
Curious what does and doesn’t light up at night. In my experience this is where Toyota scrimps…. At night, none of the buttons are illuminated and the cabin looks outdated in comparison to cars with more LED lighting and backlit or lit controls.
I love the looks of this and I’m hoping the Rav4 redesign looks a lot like this as this is much more than I need. I’m perplexed by the larger raised area in the back that I heard is there due to the hybrid battery. I don’t understand it as the battery in my Rav4 prime is 30 times bigger and it doesn’t show at all in the cargo area.
I think this one is missing the "premium" package or whatever it's called. So you'd get leather seats instead of Softex, heads up display, front cross traffic alert, some other fancy monitoring or lane change assist and all that stuff. Honestly I don't really care about any of that, and I agree, this "base" version of the middle "Land Cruiser" trim is the one to get.
Naturally aspirated V6 should never depart from SUVs, all this technology saving fuel, these hybrids are pour quality built with gas mileage not that impressive, these SUVs are 50 grand and over, will have to pass, I’m not impressed over interior quality plastic shared Camry shared switches, plastic leather like seats I call it pleather.
All LC250s come with center and rear lockers. The 1958 doesn't get the stabilizer bar disconnect and some of the drive modes. I'd want the 1958 with an "offroad" package that gives you the stabilizer disconnect and the other offroad tech and 360 camera in the top trims. I prefer the round headlights and cloth interior. It's weird how toyota padded the dash and doors in the upper trims but the 1958 is hard plastic. They should've gave the 1958 a rubber floor to carry the durability theme I'd they hardened the interior touch points.
Stab disconnect would probably have pushed it over 60k, and the 1958 buyer like myself is gonna do their own upgrades to it anyway. The camera is a distraction, how often can you take your eyes off the terrain anyway?
I agree, I can understand and see the value in cutting back on some creature comforts for a "base model" (1958 edition), but at least give a buyer the option to add the "off-road" features such as front facing camera and stabilizer disconnect - It seems to me like Toyota unfairly baits you into paying for the higher priced trim with features many would just assume do without.
I agree this is the trim model to get, and it has a lower depreciation value over, for instance the Toyota Sequoia, which is the other one that I was looking at
They look awesome only thing that would make it better imo is a tire on the back but I can not see at all how the price is justifiable, maybe I'm just too cheap but I swear a vehicle like this should be like 40k-45k, why ever get this over a 4Runner? You are literally paying 20k more just for a "cool look".
This is the review I needed to hear. I'm going to be trading my 2016 4Runner in on one of these. Call it a retirement gift. Don't really care for sunroof's anyway, so this is the version I want to get. Thank you so much for the review. We'll see how the southern California dealer talks with me. 🙂
Awesome video man! So I just saw one in Durango Colorado...first time I've seen the new one yet. I think is was the 1954 because it looked super base. I'm curious about the turbo 2.4...guessing it's the same tried and true 2.4 that many base tacomas come with (and mine too) WIll it hold up long term...and then will they introduce that into the 4runner.
If they offered fhe turbo 6 I would definitely like it a lot more... Im not at all a fan if putting turbo 4bangers on these big heavy trucks. The turbo 6s hold up well, (the f150 ecoboost has been extremely reliable with many engines making it past 250,000 miles trouble free) but the 4 cylinders just dont seem to hold up.
With all the quality issues Toyota is currently experiencing I would wait a year or two for them to work out the issues. The other red flag is the fact that Toyota moved manufacturing to Mexico.
As said before. These and the new Lexus GX are manufactured in Japan. But I also have no issues with manufacturing in Mexico. I have been to two factories in Monterrey. VW and Kia. Both are new and state of the art. Lots of good products coming from them.
Drove it yesterday, while my 4runner was getting serviced it is very small. Don’t let that sensitive throttle and tech gimmicks distract you from the rest of the cheap material used on this little thing😂
Well they sure tried hard with gimmicks and accessories in this one to distract you from the quality parts of it. Take a look at the generic rear window and then the undercarriage with the paper thin plastic mud flaps. The quality isn’t there anymore 🙈
I see the Land Cruiser comes with 4-wheel-drive, but does it come with full-time all-wheel-drive mode like the Subaru Outback? This Land Cruiser is a nice vehicle, but does not look like a bargain or retro to me.
I'm shocked by all the naive comments; e.g. "won't hold up because it has an overly stressed tiny turbo 4 cylinder motor." Indicates they are unaware durable 4 cylinders successfully powered some of Toyotas heaviest vehicles over the years; e.g. 4WD pickups and motorhomes in the 1970's. 4Runners, T100 pickups and Previa Vans in the 1980's and 1990's. Tacomas, Passenger Vans and Prado SUV's in the 2000's & 2010's.
So this ruck is not designed for this type camp use where you leave the engine running idle for a few hours - I don't think any vehicle can handle this situation. On the other hand, if drive is mostly i the city & in particularly in stop-and-go parking lot situation, the hybrid engine of this car may shine & getting closer to Toyota's 23MPG claim.
I kinda like it, but I would still get a pickup. Glad Toyota made the glass roof optional. Pound for pound, trucks are a good value. SUVs do not typically hold value as well as a truck.
