Thanks for the review Bob. I'm in the market for a 2060 laptop of this price range, and I was gravitating toward the Lenovo Legion Y540/Y545 (which is ~$1400 well equipped) until I saw this!
i did some researches and alot of wandering on the internet about those two laptops if you don't mind the hp omen looks get it , if they are on the same price for the same specs the thunderbolt 3 and the optimus/G-sync your version will come with one of them . they are the factor to get it for longevity and for the fact that hp omen 15t uses more power = more performance even though the acer 300 doesn't reach the hp omen 15t temps but the omen offered the slight edge and having the bigger battery 58 vs 70
@@firasrabaia This is exactly the comparison i try to make. I need a laptop for Gamedevelopment (so I have to use it for like 6hours on school) and also want to game on it. Batterylife is important for me because of that. The negative parts of the Acer Helios 300 are the small battery and it is not bright, so probably not a good choose for me.

Please be aware omens have a history of long term cooling issues. If you get one, get a long warranty or insurance. There is the chance that within 2 years the GPU or CPU will be fried.
Supposedly HP released a Bios update to help with the throttling issues. Im on the fence between this exact Omen he bought in the video or the new Helios Predator w\1660ti spec. Prob go with the Predator since new design and alot of good reviews.
Ry Guy I had a 2017 Omen with the 1070/ max specs possible for like 2k, and its GPU died right after a year. No warranty to save it sadly. Switched to Asus ROG Zephyrus since. The predator looks like a pretty good buy, as the 1660ti is a good card.
Once you’ve been burned by a particular model/brand often times you don’t return. No manufacturers is immune to failures. You only think it’s bad because once yours fails you search for others with similar experiences. No different than buying a car and now suddenly you see these cars everywhere due to the fact that you have one and happen to be paying attention.
Bob Of All Trades I don’t believe HP is bad. I thoroughly enjoyed the laptop when I had it, as it was quiet and powerful. Their software is pretty basic and unuseful, and I have found some brands do it better. I would have bought another HP had I not had such issues with the first like you said, so to circumvent that I would recommend anyone to get at least a 2 year warranty on ANY gaming laptop. I also believe that many of the cooling issues with the original 2017 omens is fixed, so it is probably a better product than the one I intitially purchased.
@@SilentButDudley Yea only thing holding me back is that im pretty sure the Helios uses Optimus and for gaming thats a no no, this Omen doesnt use it. So no im steering more towards Omen. Like i said im on the fence, having a hard time, lol.
Great channel. Just picked one up at Micro Center for $1,099 great buy. I undervolted by .140 and its stable and runs much cooler then out of the box. Put a overclock on it with MSI Afterburner I let Afterburner decide the curve and its running great and very stable. I think for the money you can't go wrong if you don't mind undervolting if you don't undervolt the temps do get high. I don't have a lot of money so this is the best laptop I ever owned. Very happy with it. Thanks for your thorough review it helped me get the most out of my money.
what software do you use to address the thermal issues? I know you mentioned tweaking things in your video, but I cant seem to see what you are using. Thanks. Just purchased this laptop last week and the heat.. holy hell. How long can a laptop survive when the CPU is reaching 93c under load?
This is the best video out there for this laptop. I have been having trouble trying to distinguish which model is mine in other videos but your video is so accurate. I get lost in some places with your tech numbers but all in all you reassured me with purchase brother...💯💯💯💯

Thanks for this vid im subbing because your info and thoughts are clear and well presented can't wait for more vids, Im also buying this laptop right now because of this video as My local store sells a 2070 version for 2k cdn, Keep up the great work
Hi Bob! I've been watching your laptop reviews since the past month. Just got my work (which is from a 3D studio where we create assets for games and simulations). The reason why I brought this up is because I am literally desperate looking for a laptop (I'm more into portability) especially now that I'm here stuck with my relatives (after the lockdown) using an entry-level netbook that's really not designed for my work and personal demands. But yeah, surprisingly, I am able to keep up and maybe that just sums up myself of being a bit techy coz I often find myself looking up from google for troubleshooting and optimization stuff be it software or hardware. I don't have my personal computer with me which is at my home far here from my relatives. Anyways in case you have read this and got this far, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Your videos are awesome. Now that I'm getting paid (just a fresh grad), watching reviews such as yours along with OwnOrDisown, and Jarrod's Tech, really help me decide what I should buy. I love playing games just as what mostly everyone does but of course, I have my needs to and in fact I really appreciate my machine better if I can use it for productivity other than for games. I'm definitely eyeing on this Omen 15. I've also watched your more recent upload of the HP Omen series RTX studio, but a a 1660ti will do for me.
In my opinion, an underrated laptop. I love the design on mine. Great for what I do. I have the 2018 with 8750H and is awesome. I'm a casual gamer so GTX1050 works for me and has great battery life, almost 7 hours if you push it. I'm baffled that I don't see them as often as other notebooks in this category. Does anybody feel the same?
Awesome Bob!! Might have to smell my omen 15 from last year to buy this. Look at that CPU clock with undervolt, it is staying at 4.0Ghz No matter what. Great to se a CPU that draws over 45w 👍
I am checking the Australian HP store. Something is wrong with the prices, this model costs like a Razer blade 15 with similar specs h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=7DG09PA&opt=&sel=NTB
I heard HP Omen 15 with GTX 1060 used to have a CPU/GPU temperatures above 85°C when playing heavy games due to bad thermals. Is it still the same with the 2019 version of HP Omen 15?
The new one is duel screen.... They still going to had heat problem that why they try to move out of high end gaming laptop and be more like a small segment of laptop...
Thanks @Bob of All Trades. I always trust your reviews because you highlight and try to give a fix for those grey areas which otherwise could break a really good deal. I live in Pakistan and desperately needed a decent laptop for graphics designing and hardcore gaming. 1st I tried to buy OP after watching your review for that but failed to get one in time. This time I literally begged my friend in NewYork to get this laptop because when you say it's the best deal I always trust you. I'm going to get it in Pakistan in July. Thanks again mate. Love and respect from Pakistan.
I just bought this exact laptop from Microcenter here in Northern VA. I returned my Alienware m17 that had an RTX 2070 Max-Q. I mainly play AAA games at 1080p. I am telling you... this HP with a full RTX 2060 is getting much better performance than the Alienware m17 that I just returned. My buddy has an RTX 2080 Max-Q on his Alienware m15 and this HP with an RTX 2060 almost gets the same FPS on Ghost Recon Wildlands, AC Odyssey, and Gears of War 4 (there is a 7 fps difference in those games at ultra settings 1080p). This is one of the best laptops I have ever had. I had an MSI GS75 Stealth with an RTX 2070 Max-Q, an Alienware m17 with an RTX 2070 Max-Q, and I still own my Dell 7577 with a GTX 1060 (I am going to give the dell laptop to my wife). The HP Omen 15 with a full RTX 2060 is a fantastic laptop. Trust me... you wont regret buying it. Mine has a bit of back-light bleed, but I purchased a 3 year accidental warranty from HP for $171, and I love it! Thank you for this amazing review.
mohamed Elshorbagy I have not found the fans to be super loud at all. The Alienware I returned had much louder fans. I think the fact that this laptop is thicker... I think that helps a lot with the fans.
ZWALL I’m sure my settings are close. When I reveal UV numbers they’re never pushing parts to their near failure. Should you really want to dial yours in I suggest putting in the time 👍
Balkeet007 HP clearly favors acoustics over thermals. If the fan speed could be maxed out we’d be in better shape. All the of right stuff is there including a properly mounted heatsink.
@Bob Of All Trades what if the remove they shared heat pipes and have separated heat pipes? that could at least minimise the heat transfer from one CPU to GPU or vice versa
I just bought an "open box" unit at Microcenter for $ 970 + MD Tax ... I think it was a good deal, the unit was perfect, without any damage, just returned by giving up ... I hope to have a machine for a few years.
Just bought this laptop and it seems they've added fan control, somewhat, in the form of a basic Auto/Max switch in the command center? So there's that. SO glad I found your channel btw. This video made my decision for me, tackled all the points that mattered to me and even save me the time on undervolt settings. Great job!
@@ifteharulhaque2600 It's great as long as you undervolt the cpu to keep it under 90 celcius. Setting the fans to max helps as well in some cases. It just takes a REALLY long time updating windows and bios out of the box, the latter which, i guess, includes the fan control.
Mighty Duck hmmm how about the battery life in normal basis using? I've seen a lot of review said that it only lasts for 2 1/2 hours in the low setting even just for writing, that's stop me from buying this laptop :') please help
@@jily0975 Not sure about battery life. I mainly use this laptop for gaming and graphics work and haven't been taking it out much. 2 1/2 hours seems pretty accurate an estimate, though, seeing this model doesn't come with an iGPU - meaning the system is running RTX at all times even at idle.
so after 2 weeks of use i got my first issue with it. it overheats like an oven. on the default mode its stable at round 70-75 degrees. but in the performance ive have had temperature hits to 96degrees.and noi guess cuz of the overheating the headphone jack and audio jack dont work. i connect my headphones and i get weird blowing noises from them.and the same headphones connected to my phone work perfectly. plus its a shame that it only comes with 512ssd and not a hdd aswell.
Dart Frog You sure? Look right below where it says “add to cart” Worse case scenario you could have tried and it would have said, nope. Every once in a blue moon they’ll ship certain things out. But it’s also why I linked two deals at HP that offers similar specs including the GPU. Once in the description and one added this morning. You guys, the answers are there and the work has been done. You just have to look 👍
What do you think would be better for me, this one or the new Acer Helios 300? I need a laptop for gaming (primarily Cyberpunk 2077 for next year lol) and I’ll also be needing it for graduate school in a couple months (note taking, test taking, lecture recordings, etc)
Can someone answer this pls? I have the same question, I’m between this one (hp omen 15) and Acer Predator Helios 300 also from micro center (probably the 17.3” one, same specs as the 15.6”, but $200 more). I just play league of legends so far, I know that I don’t need this “high end” laps to play it, but just in case some high demanding game get my attention later and this two laptops have the same price. So, so far I’m not that demanding at the performance, I’m just worried about the heat issues and other issues I have seen in this video’s comments (also in other videos and reviews) that both laptops seems to have. But prob because I just play LoL, it won’t get too hot, (I don’t know about this kind of stuff). Which one do you think will give me less or no trouble in like at least 2 years? Pls ignore any grammar mistake.
Shou Han Chen hey brah, I actually ended up getting the Powerspec 1520. It’s a little more expensive than both but it has much better specs. If you have a Microcenter near you I’d definitely check it out.

Nice glad to see more good deals on RTX laptops going around. Eager to see how the drivers mature over the coming months and more supporting games come out.
Drivers are pretty good at this point. RTX in general came out last September. Nothing special has to be done on the driver end of any significance for laptops.
I have to say, undervolting 16/20 series GPUs with voltage frequency curve is a pain since there are so many points in the curve. You must be very patient! Very good price indeed. If compared to one of the cheapest i7+2060+144Hz laptop - Clevo NH50/55/57/58, the cooling is slightly worse but you get more features like no Optimus+70Wh battery, TB3, aluminium build etc. Definitely not bad at all

The 2070MQ model does come with G-SYNC per HP's specifications, panel model LGD05FE. My 2070MQ boosts to 88-92w on Performance mode, which is nice to see it it does for the 2060 here too. My 2070MQ does not thermal throttle at all even at max load - I did not need to undervolt it. The CPU in my machine throttled with AIDA64 stressing but not while in-game for the most part. My model (or a version of it) can be found direct from HP or on Amazon as well. Price - varies but HP has plenty of website deals that run on occasion. I have no regrets with this purchase and I'm even having the reverse of buyer's remorse for this compared to the Y740 - this laptop has no badly placed macro keys, and a FULL numpad, for the same form factor. Build is solid, and the hinges seem well reinforced. The keyboard deck is solid- you can press down hard and there is no visible flex in the keys.

Thanks for all the great work.
Hello Bob, I'm planning to buy next week the HP Omen 15 with i7-9750h and 2060 RTX. My main question is, how is the heating with this HP? If undervolted and using a cool pad keeps the temperatures under 90, even 85 degrees? The main reason that stops me right now of buying it is the overheating all people are talking about. Please help. Thank you, your channel is great. You got my subscribe. :)

hey can you do a direct comparison? with the Acer helios 300
i did some researches and alot of wandering on the internet about those two laptops if you don't mind the hp omen looks get it , if they are on the same price for the same specs the thunderbolt 3 and the optimus/G-sync your version will come with one of them . they are the factor to get it for longevity and for the fact that hp omen 15t uses more power = more performance even though the acer 300 doesn't reach the hp omen 15t temps but the omen offered the slight edge and having the bigger battery 58 vs 70
@@OFaruk58 same as me but i am still a computer Engineering student and for gamedevlopment you may need more screen or more power with thunderbolt 3
@@firasrabaia so which one is better? hp or acer?
@@ahmetbalaman8726 if you gonna get an acer get a 1660ti check it is preformance if it is enough get the acer if you are not gonna use thunderbolt and don't want to tenker and always on charger
But if you really want the extra battery the thunderbolt and the 2060 or 2070 and willing to do some tenkering for getting best temps and preformance get the omen
If both isn't same price in your country as i found get the cheapest
1660ti vs 2060 omen are the same price on amazon there is a difference of 70$ i think
Impeccable review, as always!
There’s also a RTX 2070 version. I think i’m getting it. Amazing video too, i’m subscribing !
First time watching and I've subscribed. All meat, no fluff! 👍
Been looking at this laptop for a few days - so really good to see a clear and positive review. Thanks.
Undervolt the CPU with Intel XTU. Set the Core Voltage Offset to -0.150v
Best review. Cleared all my doubt about this laptop 💻. This will be my next laptop.
Have to admit that your video quality have improve a lot in a short time .
This is the best video out there for this laptop. I have been having trouble trying to distinguish which model is mine in other videos but your video is so accurate. I get lost in some places with your tech numbers but all in all you reassured me with purchase brother...💯💯💯💯

Lenovo legion y740 vs this?
Hp beats
I was to in the dilema, but the HP had more quality and benefits, but they are bouth beast
hp has better support too

great review ...you are now one of my favourite laptop reviewers
In my opinion, an underrated laptop. I love the design on mine. Great for what I do. I have the 2018 with 8750H and is awesome. I'm a casual gamer so GTX1050 works for me and has great battery life, almost 7 hours if you push it. I'm baffled that I don't see them as often as other notebooks in this category. Does anybody feel the same?

Ah you prob get this comment all the time but the GPU in this laptop is the GTX1660 not the RTX. Nvidia never made an RTX 16 series.
Saeed Khalid That’s still the best laptop for the price I have ever seen 👍
Did you get it already ?
Daniel Mikhail . So i can play all games on ultra setting no lag no any thing and what about the fan is high voise or normal ??
mohamed Elshorbagy I have not found the fans to be super loud at all. The Alienware I returned had much louder fans. I think the fact that this laptop is thicker... I think that helps a lot with the fans.
Just bought this exact machine from Microcenter. Will the undervolt settings you used work for me as well? Or is every chassis truly unique?
ZWALL I’m sure my settings are close. When I reveal UV numbers they’re never pushing parts to their near failure. Should you really want to dial yours in I suggest putting in the time 👍
So my laptop is already outdated.
It can not be, a few months ago I bought the 8th generation and now the 9th generation is out but it's okay, good video!.
omg me too!
Even after UV thermals not good
Nice review nonetheless
Balkeet007 HP clearly favors acoustics over thermals. If the fan speed could be maxed out we’d be in better shape. All the of right stuff is there including a properly mounted heatsink.
@@BobOfAllTrades UV + repasting must-have, I'd said
@Bob Of All Trades what if the remove they shared heat pipes and have separated heat pipes? that could at least minimise the heat transfer from one CPU to GPU or vice versa
I just bought an "open box" unit at Microcenter for $ 970 + MD Tax ... I think it was a good deal, the unit was perfect, without any damage, just returned by giving up ... I hope to have a machine for a few years.
Good find!
Just bought this laptop and it seems they've added fan control, somewhat, in the form of a basic Auto/Max switch in the command center? So there's that.
SO glad I found your channel btw. This video made my decision for me, tackled all the points that mattered to me and even save me the time on undervolt settings. Great job!
How is the laptop so far?
@@ifteharulhaque2600 It's great as long as you undervolt the cpu to keep it under 90 celcius. Setting the fans to max helps as well in some cases. It just takes a REALLY long time updating windows and bios out of the box, the latter which, i guess, includes the fan control.
@@bebekperkasa Thanks👍

I reviewed this model on NotebookReview with the 2070MQ, for those on TH-cam who are interested.

I have the 2070MQ version with 8750h.
Hey can you teach me how to undervolt my hp omen 15 we got the same specs got 0 knowledge on how to undervolt please help me. I watched your vid about how to undervolt but its on diff specs kinda scared on changing the values on my hp omen. It releases a 90c to 99c while gaming its too hot

Thanks for all the great work.

Hello Bob,
I'm planning to buy next week the HP Omen 15 with i7-9750h and 2060 RTX.
My main question is, how is the heating with this HP?
If undervolted and using a cool pad keeps the temperatures under 90, even 85 degrees?
The main reason that stops me right now of buying it is the overheating all people are talking about.
